Career / Re: Oil Workers Zone. by kokosheen(m): 1:18pm On Feb 05, 2013
leo2008: Hello friends
I don't mind your view on my situation, I have a b.Tech in civil engr with a 2.2 class division, I was adviced that to be able to enter the oil nd gas industry I should do some courses relating to the industry,am on the verge of paying 350k for a two months training in pipeline welding (argon welding or T-fillet welding)in benek school of engineering phc.I want to know if doing this course will increase my chances of getting a job, if it won't please which profesional course do you think will help me so I won't waste the money cause it took me close to a year to save it...tanks 4 ur anticipated replies.....(Pls ignore d typos...tying frm a fone)

That you graduated with a B.Tech doesn't mean you're a technician. The course you're going for would prepare you for a job done by artisans and contractors/contract workers, and won't be a leverage for a direct staff position for engineers/technicians (that's if you don't mind) in a major Oil & Gas coy.

I would advise you to look for training institutes that deliver specialized training with regards to construction & construction mgt., environmental sciences (soil studies etc) and pipeline construction/maintenance (Cathodic protection/pigging)/materials (HDPE/GRE/GRVE/SS/CS).. These courses would serve you better instead in your search.

Also, Oil&Gas safety courses (any engrg/science discipline can perform as a safety officer).

Good luck

Hope this helps.

That is understandable for these banks, however, FBN is just like this and pathetic! Ndin gbati gbatiii

I don't understand what you meant by it being ok for some banks to practice tribalism but not for one in particular! By the way, I'm in no way justifying this act as its one of the cancers killing this country.

Not really.

Due to high level community pressure, contract staff that are indigenes of the host community are sometimes converted to full staff after spending donkey years. Mind you, this happens rarely as I've sent it happen only once in 12 years. Also, just a select few of the eligible indigenes were converted (run things I guess)

You can run both programs (HND & BSc.) concurrently depending on the location of the schools.

I had classmates in the University that did both together and they ended up with 2nd Class Upper.

Career / Re: Oil Workers Zone. by kokosheen(m): 5:41pm On Jan 17, 2013
I was the first person to point out that the OP is more like trying to scam people, because he never was and isn't a shell staff. I didn't pick it up at first when he posted his supposed shell email addy, because I'd advised him to remove it immediately but on a closer look I found the supposed official email addy is not in Shell email format.
I know the email address formats for Shell, Mobil, Addax, Total and a few other multinationals because it helps to clear your box of unwanted emails.

As for BlueDiva's (what a shame that she supports Chelsea) and Kitty-Kat's arguments, really there shouldn't be any. I remember in Kitty-Kat's earlier post when she said the gate-man thing was a one-off and she can't replicate that stunt again (I think I've been in the industry long enough to know that anything can happen, even in multinationals).

BlueDiva, please advise prospective employees how they can better brighten their chances of making it into the industry (since you know so much tongue).

After my initial clash with the OP, I'd decided to sit and watch how the drama plays out but was encouraged by Kitty_Kat and had decided to contribute later.

Now my advise to people wanting to get in:
1. You don't have to know anyone, but if you do, better for you because the person can coach you on what to do and how you do it too (Nice one Kitty_kat)
2. Do lots of sample test questions, SHL/Prometric/PSI/Advance Measurement professionals do have practice psychometric, personality assessments, and performance management tests that O&G majors look out for.
If you make it to 2nd stage of their tests, your attitude assessment has started from that point and anything you do or say might/might not work for you or against you, so watch yourself.
3. Don't be yourself, be who the company needs you to be. Practice on being this person too until it becomes you.
4. Be confident, dress well, talk well and don't be too argumentative (always pick your points! SMH @ BlueDiva)
For assessment/interview
5. Be good in your field/discipline but its also an advantage that you know a little bit of everything else (seriously not a little bit, you should know something about other fields, not just technical stuff if you're a technical person and vice versa for non-technical people too)
6. Be constructive in your points, don't just talk, make sure it matters to topic of discussion
7. Be smart and delegate (do it in a way the person working for you doesn't even know he/she is doing it and let them be glad to do it) - this is important, leadership things wink
8. Please, these questions have always come up in all the interviews I've attended: Give us examples of leadership roles you've held and how do you overcome challenges when they arise? think about them long and hard before going for any interview.
9. Manage your time

I know my post is a tad long but saw the e-missles flying and thought I better do this now or I never will. To all prospective O&G workers, Good luck in your quest for that eldorado job.

More like you should reason before typing because it seems your brain cells need flexing grin...

What part of battery degradation can't you comprehend!!! You keep a phone as back-up in a bag and 2 years down the line you try to put it on and voila, it doesn't work.

Unless they're using nano-batteries as posited by imperiouxx(which would have been greatly stressed in their cosmetic sale write-up), there aren't AA batteries in the market that would last 15 years without use.

Also note the title of the thread and correlate it with the write-up and posters comments before rushing to type.
Phones / Re: SpareOne-Plus: Phone With A Battery That Lasts 15 Years by kokosheen(m): 6:13pm On Jan 09, 2013
imperiouxx:

There are nanobatteries used in missiles, drones, electronic cars, computer memory systems etc that won't discharge until their uses are deployed. That means while on shelf, they are not discharging and after used they stop discharging and they charge almost fully within a min.....those can last up to 12years(from their research). I studied nanobatteries for one of my seminars. Check mphasetech supernanobatteries here http://www.mphasetech.com/technology.html

Hmmm! Interesting.. Thanks for the clarification.
Phones / Re: SpareOne-Plus: Phone With A Battery That Lasts 15 Years by kokosheen(m): 5:09pm On Jan 09, 2013
I believe the phone is crap!

Talk time is 10 hours, a solid Nokia phone (not smart phone oo) will give you that.

The manufacturer is just being clever, unless they developed a new kind of battery, standard NiMH & Li-ion batteries will lose about 1% of their power per day when they are allowed to just sit.

Most battery manufacturers would tell you their batteries can hold their charge for up to 1 year, but one should note that temperature greatly affects battery life, therefore having this phone that uses standard AA batteries in Nigeria (Heat & Humidity) would amount to keeping another phone for thieves to steal.

did you consider other possible earnings that could accrue to him as a result of his performance in both shows. Methinks its a good investment. N1.65m is not bad. Imo.

If by possible earnings, you mean goodwill that would accrue for honoring his contract, then it's a wise investment. As long as he ( Davido) churns out hits, and organizers know he won't bail on them, they will always keep calling him. More money for him in the long run.

Not a good business move by the Father if it really happened.

How much would Davido get for each show? 1 - 2M at most, therefore he gets 2 - 4M for both shows. To charter a Light or small jet plane that sits 7 - 10 people (I guess its for him and his HKN gang alone), the old boy would have to pay close to $3.5k per hour (flight hour fees, cost of catering(?? na water dem serve am ooo), permits which are often required when a business jet is chartered for an international travel, overnight fees(??) and landing fees). With an approximate round trip time to Ghana 3hrs (includes clearing/waiting time), we're already talking about $10.5k which is equivalent to NGN1.65M.

So how much is left for the gang to share!

Anyway, he's a billionaire and needs to spend like he's one.

Now, this reminds of a certain movie & game series called Resident Evil where scientists were trying to modify the human genome by working on the T-cell, which ended up as the dreaded T-Virus. Hmmm!! so HIV might be a cure to cancer? but what hybrid disease will it produce (T-Virus shocked)..

Anyways, lets welcome the real life ALICE (let em watch her before she starts flying grin)
