WannaHowzit: South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has hit out at the main opposition party after one of its election adverts featured a national flag engulfed in fire.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has defended the image saying it wanted to highlight its argument that the country is in trouble.
Burning the flag is not illegal, but the president called the DA's depiction an "abuse", adding that it undermined the unity of the country.
Campaigning has become increasingly fractious ahead of the 29 May general election.
In the advert, as the flag is seen going up in flames, a voice-over warns "life will only get worse" under the African National Congress (ANC), which has been in power since 1994.
The burning of the flag is then reversed as the speaker urges voters to support the DA.
"This election is about survival," it ends as the flag is replenished and returns to its original form.
The DA advert angered some South Africans who accused the party of desecrating the flag to highlight challenges faced by citizens.
In a statement on Tuesday, the president said while he was committed to free speech, this has to "be exercised with respect for all people and that it does not incite social upheaval or violence".
In his campaigning, Mr Ramaphosa has acknowledged that there are problems in the country, but he has also emphasised the transformation that South Africa has made in the last three decades.
The ANC led the struggle against white-minority rule and the legalised form of racial discrimination known as apartheid.
"South Africans are more educated, empowered and healthier than they were under apartheid," Mr Ramaphosa has said, urging people not to threaten that progress.
Addressing the media on Sunday, when the advert was launched, DA leader John Steenhuisen said it was a "symbolic representation of the future that awaits South Africa if people do not vote for the DA".
South Africa goes to the polls on May 29. The governing ANC is expected to lose support after 30 years in power. This will be the most contested election since Nelson Mandela was voted president in 1994. The official opposition, DA, is often accused of representing white interests.

Odewaleadesoye: The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has disclosed how God dealt with some billionaires who questioned his accountability over their tithes.
Pastor Adeboye disclosed that four billionaires from one of the branches of RCCG had written to him demanding to know how the ministry spent their tithes.
Addressing his members, Pastor Adeboye disclosed that God punished the branch as most of the members started suffering in their businesses and their contracts were being cancelled.

“The tithe that was coming from this family was hefty. All of a sudden a handful of the big men wrote to me and said every month, you must give us an account of how you are spending our tithe. I said okay, ‘what they are asking for is alright, they are simply asking for transparency. Nothing is wrong with that.
“I said, however, I have gone through the Bible, I have not seen anywhere where God spoke to Moses and said every month, you must give an account of the tithe children of Israel to them. So, I said alright, I will do two things.
“Number one, I will prepare a detailed account of how your money is spent, including if we buy a bottle of coke for first timers. I will put it in a file and every month when you people come for the Holy Ghost Service, that file be on the table. I won’t give it to you. I will put it on the table.
“Anyone who wants to see it can go and read it. But make sure you wait till I have left the room because everything that we are doing in earth is being recorded in heaven. I don’t want my God to say you are the one who handed it over to them and you are there when they were reading. And I did it.
“Number two, I told the treasurer, from now on, any tithe that came from this family, don’t add it to the rest, put it aside. Let me find out if the God who sent me can run his church without these people’s contributions. So, for two separate years, every kobo that came for this family was kept in a separate account.
“It was when Aboaba came from Ibadan, I sent him there and then after he had been in the church for some months, he came to me. He said the people you asked me to go and join are complaining that things are not going well, and they have found out that they offended me, and that’s why their contracts are being cancelled and all manner of things are happening.
“I said we are not quarrelling and God knows I wasn’t quarrelling. I just ignore it. He then said when you knew this was the problem, why did you send me there? I said I didn’t know anything was happening. I just want to know how gracious God can be to me. Then, we reconciled. It wasn’t everybody that offended me.
“It was a handful of people who thought that they were cleverer than God and they brought problems to everybody. It will interest you to know that every one of those involved in that group is no longer in the church and they are not where they ought to be, let me just put it like that.”
Tbh, except Adeboye was quoted incorrectly by the media and bloggers (like they so often do without fact-checking and to draw online and offline traffic), then this is an absolute case of scaremongering from the pulpit and inappropriate verbal comments from a religious leader.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, received the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on Sunday.
The British Royal couple was received by Governor Sanwo-Olu; his wife, Dr. Ibijoke, and some members of the State Executive Council during a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.
Prince Harry, accompanied by his wife, Meghan, is on a three-day visit to Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014. The couples had a stopover in Lagos on Sunday.
The Invictus Games are aimed at raising funds and supporting serving members of the military as well as veterans to overcome their physical and mental illness or injuries, which would help them to develop a sense of belonging and increased self-esteem.
Speaking to journalists after a closed door meeting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the British Royal couple for the work they are doing with Nigeria’s military men, especially on issues around mental health.
He said: "We are honoured to receive them (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) at the Lagos House, Marina. We are excited about the ideas and what they are planning to do, especially with the office of the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, and his wife, Mrs. Lilian Musa.
"For Prince Harry, it has been a very interesting and informative trip to the country. He has seen a lot. And part of the things we are hoping he will take away is the diversity and extent of how big our country is, how we continue to ensure that we live together in peace and harmony, and what role Lagos plays in the whole conversation.
"They have been to Kano, Abuja, and now Lagos. I am sure they have their own experience of what Nigeria looks like. We have extended an additional invitation to them that they can always come back when they want to.

These folks were MAJORLY captives from the Fulani jihad in the North of Nigeria as told by the Kanuri man Ali Eisami Gazirmabe who had an Islamic teacher father, and Ali Eisami [Eisami means "son of Aisha" in the Kanuri tradition] was captured around 1812/1813 and sold into slavery by the Fulani invaders of the Borno area.
The last ever infamous American slave ship (Clotilda) that sailed into the United States in 1859 from Whydah (now in Benin Republic) into Mobile in Alabama, United States on the eve of the American Civil War had majorly Yorubas from the Bante region of Yorubaland in the current Benin Republic and some captive long-distance traders from Yorubaland in Nigeria onboard, with some Nupes (Tapas), a Fon noble man, and a few Hausas, etc. Oluale Kosola (was onboard the infamous Clotilda, and renamed Kojo Lewis on arrival in Mobile, Alabama) and others built a settlement called Africatown in Alabama after the American Civil War ended in 1865, and all enslaved Africans in the Deep South were freed from plantation slavery. The Africatown descendants are still alive as of today in the United States with some holding prominent positions in entertainment and more.
Most African-Americans, Afro-South Americans and African-Carribeans, etc, are NOW ancestrally mixed up and based on DNA analyses, most show ancestries from all parts of the major regions and ethnic groups of Africa where enslaved Africans were taken from (and European ancestries as well) because of the forced intermingling of White men and African women who were enslaved on the plantations, then after slavery was abolished, there were legal marriages between Whites and Blacks as well.

fergie001: Barely 16 days after Dana Air was shut down by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authorities, another Nigeria aircraft belonging to XEJET Airlines also skidded off the runway and landed in the grass at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on Saturday.
Following this development, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has shut the 18/Left runway of the airport
The Airbus with registration 5N-BZZ with 52 passengers on board departed Abuja and landed in Lagos at 11.29 am.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau confirmed the incident.
The NSIB noted that the aircraft belonging to XEJET Airlines skidded off the runway of the domestic wing of the airport.
This is the wet, rainy season so these random aircraft skids are NOT totally strange because of the wet conditions of the runways.
Pilot errors of judgement can't be ignored here as well. The speed at landing could have been high or the aircraft touched down deep into the runway thereby reducing the available distance for deploying its reverse thrusters and appying the brakes.
Back in 2019, a widebody Air Peace aircraft skidded off the Port Harcourt Airport runway and scene was posted here on NL in the link below, and other news sources. So, this should serve as a reminder to those ignorant posters giving out misleading and alarmist information on this thread that it's a global phenomenon.
Last but not least, the Nigerian aviation sector hasn't experienced any major loss of lives from plane crashes since the horrendous Dana plane crash in a residential area in Lagos State within the last 12 years. Kudos to everyone in the aviation sector in Nigeria for largely keeping things safe, but more has to be done to keep the runways safe for all sizes of aircraft to take off and land. Period.

But U.S. officials have continued to negotiate with the junta over the terms of the withdrawal and whether there was any possibility some American troops could stay.
Hopes for an agreement dimmed this week when the Defense Department directed the roughly 1,000 U.S. troops in Niger to leave the country over the next several months, according to a U.S. official, who was granted anonymity to speak ahead of an announcement.
The timeline could still shift, the official cautioned, and congressional negotiations are ongoing.
Troops will move to other locations within the region from which they can still operate, the official said. The drawdown — which could still be reversed until it is complete — does not include embassy security personnel.
The move upends years of counterterrorism efforts in the Sahel. Niger, particularly a U.S.-built drone base at Agadez, had been a linchpin of that strategy until the country’s military overthrew the government in a coup last summer.
The U.S. partnership with Niger was also a bulwark against Russia’s growing influence in the region. Since the coup, Russian forces, including former members of the Wagner group, have begun to flow into the country. Between 60 and 100 Russian fighters have been living at the same air base as American troops in the capital of Niamey, Base 101, for weeks.

A U.S. delegation is in Niger having conversations with the junta about the withdrawal. Just seeing images of American and Russian flags, troops, military vehicles and other equipment staying side-by-side within the same Niger Republic military base cracked me up. Those images looked so surreal in the midst of the ongoing fierce Russian-Ukraine War.

Nigerians don't like to read long epistle so before I start typing my suffer to get this let me go straight to the point and tell you about the system
As at the time of buying this powerstation I priced Yoobao en2200q a close rival. It was 1.390m.. everywhere was 1.4 million upwards without delivery, without panels, without warranty and assistance. Eden lotus power gave a very limited offer for the package at 1.2 million for everything including the panels and delivery. The solar panel was 500w and it was bonus... For that same 1.2 million. Both the delivery of the panels and powerstation was still inside that 1.2 million.
Charging speed is a very big problem well This Eden lotus power 2Kva solar generator supports 1620w of both solar and Ac charging. Thereby getting you from 0-10 in 1 hour 12 minutes or 15 minutes there about. Then only Ac wall charging is 1098 - 1120w getting you from 0-10 in 1.80 hours which is 1 hour 48 minutes.
This is also a UPS. 1000 milliseconds makes a seconds. For you to blink your eye is 150 milliseconds. Well this UPS feature is 10 milliseconds. I use this in my office you cannot know when there is light or no light. The switching time is so fast that with this you can lie youre not using Nepa and nobody will know except you confess. Even if NEPA officials are in your office they will be there Nepa will go they will not know. Those who work on computer for long this will save your system from crashing.
Smart outlet. For example if your phone is full and the battery notices energy isn't going out of it. It will automatically shut of that outlet. Maybe you slept off.

myspace: Unreliable internet has always been an issue for me in Lagos. The best Internet Service Providers use Fibre Optics but have very limited coverage areas. So when I heard Starlink would be rolling out their Low Orbit internet service in Africa, It Immediately piqued my Interest.
I made a preorder for the service in May of 2021 with a refundable deposit of $99. I did this due to the projected rollout of the service by the end of 2021. I did not get any update from Starlink until early december of 2022. I was told to pay up a balance of $501 so my exquipment would be shipped.
8 days after making full payment, my Starlink Equipment was delivered to me by DHL. It is a plug and play device that is easy to install by following very simple steps on the manual. I mounted the dish on my compound, at a postion with good sky visibility and the device connected to an available Satellite within a few minutes.
My Internet experience is now the best I have ever had it, here in Nigeria.
