colp2015:Hi are you say that TMS will cost $5000 to purchase? Will TMS be ready in 2021? Thanks. |

Nairalandmonika:^^^^^ ^^^^^ What a coincidence that you are from Ugborodo @Nairalandmonica. I have Itsekiris as friends as well... even from back in my university days in Nigeria but you are even the first Itsekiri from Ugborodo that I am interacting with online so that makes you unique... and I will be interacting with you some more to get some first-hand info about your area. Yes I know that the oil and gas-rich Ugborodo is the real name of your place and that Portuguese name called Escravos means "slave." The Ugborodo people originally migrated over 500 years ago from Ugboland in the Ilaje axis of Ondo State and Ilaje-Yorubas and Itsekiris of Ugborodo are direct cousins... and share a COMMON BORDER. Thanks for expanciating on the close proximity between Warri Town and Ugborodo to the sea. I only emphasised on Ugborodo over Warri City because I think Ugborodo is a distinct location from Warri City ... and Ugborodo is much closer to the sea axis. ==> https://guardian.ng/features/culture/ugborodo-is-not-escravos/ By the way, what is the latest on the Ogidigben Gas Industrial Park in Itsekiriland that GEJ unfortunately ran away from commissioning in 2015 after a threat was made by some Ijaw militants to him that he should not come to commission it. I was highly dissapointed in GEJ for not going after everybody was expecting him and former Gov. Uduahan even placed adverts in the major newspapers on on TV welcoming him to Delta State. Ogidigben will put Itsekiriland and Delta State on the major global map as an export hub for gas which is the major raw material for jumpstarting any petrochemical industry. I wish you all the best... my brother. ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ Ugborodo Residents Deny Being Under Olu Of Warri https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EjUyZ6QaCU Feb 11, 2018 - Uploaded by Channels Television ~~~ Welcome to Delta State: Warri (Drone view of Warri City) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD_vktNTdbM Jun 5, 2019 - Uploaded by Trips with Elohor ~~~ Ugborodo Community Protests Against Alleged Neglect By Chevron https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVRBST0OpYo May 7, 2019 - Uploaded by Channels Television |
Nairalandmonika:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Let me just say it started with the British colonialists who built ports such as Burutu in Delta State and did NOT care to build or have the foresight to build any Deep Sea ports. The British were content to just use pontoon boats to move goods from offshore as well into the hinterlands and were not keen on carrying out major maritime port developments. So it behoves on Nigerians with foreign technical partners to build all the needed Deep Sea Ports in Nigeria as of now. |
Nairalandmonika:^^^^^ ^^^^^ 1. Port Harcourt is far from the sea or ocean because it is inland. But you are right that a Deep Sea port can be built in Rivers State... in a place like Bonny which is much closer to the sea. 2. As for Warri too... it is not located close to the sea, but a location in Delta state like Igborodo[i.e., Escravos in Itsekiriland] is on the sea shore. 3. Bayelsa also has the proposed Agge Deep Seaport project in Sagbama/Ekeremor because it is located around the sea or ocean. Bayelsa is the BIGGEST GAS producer in Nigeria so the project will be viable if militancy or pirate attacks can be curbed by the Navy and the locals so as NOT to scare away investors 4. Same thing with Ondo State's Deep Sea port project being proposed to be sited at Araromi in Ilaje local government area of Ondo. Araromi is directly located on the sea shore and is a major oil and gas producing community in Yorubaland. |
Hunchogee:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Really?... You know I didn't realise that Ibaka and Ibom are 2 different Deep Sea projects. I subconsciously just thought it is the same Deep Sea project Godswill Akpabio started that Udom Emmanuel is also working on. Thanks again for pointing this out for everyone! Ibeno has a very beautiful beach setting that I would love to visit. I usually follow Akwa Ibom State's fantastic developmental activities online/YouTube starting from former Gov. Akpabio and now Udom Emmanuel. My first visit to Essien Udim was in 1999 when I worked and lived in PH, and went in the company vehicles to the home town of a late staff of the company... then Akwa Ibom State had no major developments... But I'M BLOWN away by the dynamism of the past governors since 2000 to transform the state. It shows that there are some priceless gems among the PDP and APC Governors... while some are just clueless among both political parties. Thanks again. . |
PrecisionFx:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Because the 2 river ports of Warri and Calabar have just been dredged... and it is very good to decongest Lagos ports. They will need dredging again after a year at expensive cost. The Calabar port was a political port that was simply built to decongest Lagos of the cement armada glut in the 1970s and it was built with a foreign loan by OBJ from one of the European countries. Calabar riverport is NOT a waste though as it can be converted to a fishing port where packaged fish can be exported according to maritime experts. The major solution will be Ibaka Deep Seaport and Lekki Deep Seaport. Even Cross River State is working on a Deep Seaport as well... and with Governor Ben Ayade's friendly relationship with the FG, that too can come on stream ASAP. |
PrecisionFx:^^^^ ^^^^ You obviously woke up on the wrong side of the bed today! I've been using Nairaland since 2005... and the primary objective of this forum is to learn and share functional information... and I'm glad to say that learning for me is a a continuous educational journey. You either accept good advice or reject it... and face the BRUTAL consequences later. Even @Honchogee pointed out an error/information to me today on this thread and I readily took the correction in good faith because he was right. Enough said! |
PrecisionFx:^^^^ ^^^^ What are you going on about here? I was CLEARLY refering to the unviable Warri, Onitsha and Calabar River Ports that need expensive constant dredging in my post. On the other hand, Onne is a major OIL EXPORT TERMINAL but it is a RIVER PORT not a SEAPORT it is located on the BONNY RIVER ESTUARY. For your information... @Honchogee... WHO IS FROM the SS [i.e., Akwa Ibom if you check the fantastic posts in his profile page] just posted on this very page that he WORKED at Onne Port and he said here that Onne is NOT a SEAPORT! Indeed Onne is a RIVER PORT. Onne Port Complex is situated on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek. =>Read the source here: https://nigerianports.gov.ng/onne/ |
Hunchogee:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Thank you @Hunchogee for spotting that, and I've fixed it in my original post that you quoted. Onne Port Complex in Rivers State is situated on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek... and serves as a Jetty. So it is NOT a seaport. Source: https://nigerianports.gov.ng/onne/ All the best. |
PrecisionFx:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Just for emphasis... Onne Port Complex is located on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek and serves as a Jetty in the SS [Onne, Rivers State]... while the rest are unviable river ports [Warri, Calabar, PH are river ports] because of the shallow rivers they are located on that need expensive constant dredging. Ships only go there when they get dredge, and have to be desilted again after 1 year at great cost. 1 river port also exists in the SE[Onitsha] along the River Niger. |
Nairalandmonika:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Warri, PH, Onitsha and Calabar are RIVER PORTS not SEAPORTS. They all are located along shallow RIVERS and not along the deep SEA or OCEAN. Because of the shallow river beds that need constant dredging, all the river ports have not been viable and have ran at loses because big ships don't want to go there. Only Lagos can be classified as a SEAPORT. Onne Port Complex is situated on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek and serves as a Jetty. I hope this helps you and everyone to know the difference because people always get river ports and seaports mixed up. |

When you wait too long before you marry, you get comfortable in the self-centred bachelor lifestyle. Any wife after that will be seen as an intruder in your home, eating your food and destroying your appliances. It won't last before you vex pack the 'guest' commot. Not an absolute fact! |

FlyoruB:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Yorubas have been in Ghana for over 200 years and 80% of Nigerians in Cote d'Ivoire [which is nest to Ghana] are Yorubas with 70% of that being from Ejigbo in Osun State and they are big time traders and many of them are even citizens of Ivory Coast. I first travelled to Abidjan by air in 1988 and was shocked to see alot of Yoruba people doing business in the beautiful city of Abidjan. So I wonder why that fool will be spreading fake information that Yorubas don't travel. Some of the Ibos are just plain ignorant and they think they are the only ones who move out of their area! the reason they even move out is to go and look for survival in other people's lands. Even in Ibadan, you will see Ibos trying to survive there then the Ibo OP who is from Anambra has the audacity to insult Ibadan people by taking a small part of Ibadan to represent the whole of Ibadan. I have don the needful on any post that encourages tribalism, falsehood, lies or has broken the rules on NL. Cheers! |
Africaman:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ @Africaman Hello to you. Awesome... Thanks for this feedback on early Yoruba history! Prof Akin Osuntokun even said there were already existing or autochtonous communities in the Ondo axis at the time of Oduduwa's arrival so Oduduwa's arrival simply refers to the beginning of a new Dynasty and NOT that he was the PROGENITOR of the Yorubas. A new Dynasty he said should not be confused with the beginning or origins of the people! He was the one who first opened my eyes to the real history of the Yoruba area in 2004 because I didn't know that FACT before. I will get Prof Banji Akintoye book "A History of the Yoruba People" Hardcover by Stephen Adebanji Akintoye that you recommended. I should be able to get it at MMA2 or Lagos Airport Hotel Book stores when I pass through. I have seen some massive history books on sale on a wide range of issues at MMA2 from all over the world before. He is a well-spoken historian of repute in Nigeria who I have heard speak on Channels TV online before. Incidentally he will be on Channels TV with Lado Akeredolu-Ale at 9 PM [Nigerian time] today on the program called NEWSNIGHT. I saw a preview of the program and look forward to watching it online. Very brilliant man who also speaks extempore or offhand with facts and figures. I first came across the reference to Ikedu traditions in 1991 in a magazine called roots and I shred the scanned copy with just 2 people on NL. If I check my Google Drive later on I can share that article with you. There is indeed more to know via archaelogy and radio carbon 14 dating and also DNA sequencing on the history of the Yoruba people pre- and post Oduduwa. Thanks again for the feedback! P.S. Don't forget to watch Channels at 9AM Nigerian time for the interview with Prof. Banji Akintoye tonight. |
aiikman:^^^^^ ^^^^^ @aikman Are you sure you were in Lagos on that day of the Ikeja Military Cantonment explosion or you were told by someone? I was in the Ajao Estate axis near the International Airport on that day and the entire Maryland, Mafoluku, Isolo/Ajao Estate axis shook VIOLENTLY like there was a major earthquake. The initial story was that their was a military coup and the coupists were shelling Lagos metropolis to resist Federal troops... only to hear later that it was old bombs that were carelessly stored in the Army armoury that exploded. Former Governor Tinubu, General Emdin and another lower ranking officer came on live TV later in the evening to inform everyone in Yoruba, English, and Hausa languages that it was bombs that exploded! The Ikeja Military Cantonment Armoury explosions were VERY LOUD and shook the entire Lagos State for several minutes with massive underground shockwaves... even the shockwaves were felt in Ogun State! I was in Nigeria on the day of the explosions. Anyway, the Abule Ado explosion had to do with a gas explosion along the System 2B pipeline axis [which is located within Federal land that people had illegally encroached upon. There is an Instagram video of a gas leak shortly before the Blast Here: ==>https://www.instagram.com/p/B9yXRcJpfB2/ Read more here: "Fatal Lagos Explosion Caused by a Truck Hitting Gas Cylinders - NNPC" ==>https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/382054-fatal-lagos-explosion-caused-by-truck-hitting-gas-cylinders-nnpc.html |
Olu317:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Olu317 You are on fire with this your post... ![]() I enjoyed reading it. As an Ife prince that you are, I'm not surprised that you have some esoteric knowledge of Yoruba history and migrations that are NOT fully in the public domain. About the ichi mark... are you saying it came from Yorubaland originally based on what you wrote above? I do know that "Afa"[Ifa in Yoruba and Igala] is consulted before a new Eze Nri is installed and the Nri was influenced by the Igalas who introduced kingship to that part of Iboland. Igalas also consult Ifa before a new Attah of Igala is coronated. No doubt Yoruba bloodlines run in Igalaland just like the current Attah of Igala stated in a Sunday Punch interview in 2017 that I posted on Igalaschools's thread. But then who were the people that lived in Ife before the Oduduwa Dynasty stated? Where did they originally come from? Prof. Jide Osuntokun[A historian and former Nigerian ambassador to Germany wrote in 2004 about the fact that autochtonous or aboriginal Yorubas lived in Ife before Oduduwa came to start a new dynasty. The Olugbo of Ugboland, Ilaje axis in Ondo State also indicated that it was his people that were in Ife but Ifa instructed them not to fight but leave to avoid blood shed when they his forebears had issues with the Oduduwa arrival. Thanks in anticipation of your response as usual AND YOUR CONTRIBUTION to an understanding of Yoruba culture and traditions.[Not the kindergarten history information children were taught in primary schools back in the day] Signing off! |
@Africaman I've read the detailed email that you sent to me today. It can be very distressing to get banned from the culture thread or any other thread on NL by the so-called spambots. You did the right thing by saving your original post before emailing it to me. I just discovered or have a hunch that it is when several videos are attached to a post and then you try to re-edit that post after sending the message the first time that the NL spambot kicks in. The email was very detailed and I learned some more about the James Brown and Orlando Julius-Ekemode relationship from you. You are indeed right about Fela Kuti's music being an eclectic mix of sounds from different genres fused together to form his Afrobeat sound... especially from the Koola Lobito era to Egypt 80, etc. Thanks for the prayers as well and hope to get more interactions with you as the months go by. Maniagist1:^^^^ The leopard roars loudly in the year of Corona Virus... ![]() Amotekun should be more of undercover intelligence gathering and the use of Yoruba "anti-ballistic" regalia to be able to face AK-47 rifle bullets from the kidnappers! IF NOT DONE... Amotekun might fail to achieve the needed results and just become tame like some other vigilance groups. Again drones have to be deployed to complement the activities of Amotekun and the police so that the drones can take pictures and videos of criminal elements hiding in the thick forests along major roads/expressways. Enough said.
