geosegun:^^^^ ^^^^ @geosegun I'm surprised that NL did not show me your mention. I was just scrolling through this topic to reply one a post from Olu317 when I saw your post. Yes to further clarify Alex Boye's DNA result from AncestryDNA[Ancestry.com], the Benin/Togo genetic marker that was tested for as of that test is the "Ewe" genetic marker. The Ewes are indigenous to Togo and Ghana[ Stella Adadevoh's] paternal line is from the Volta Region which is Ewe ethnicity, and Yorubaland shares boundaries with the Ewes in Togo. Yorubas in Togo occupy the Atakpame Region of Togo as well and have also been living in Ghana since the days of the Oyo Empire over 200 years ago while engaging in long-distance trading. So we cannot rule out the intermarriage between Yorubas and Ewes, and we know that Yorubas and Adjas[or Ajas] of Benin and Togo mixed to create the Fon ethnic group of Benin Republic. Sango's mother was a Nupe [Tapa] woman and I know that there is a Bariba connection in Ogbomoso[The father of the man who Ogbomoso was named after is a Bariba and they share direct boundaries with the Yorubas from Kwara North in Nigeria right into Benin Republic. So yeah... I feel that Yorubas do indeed have MIXED BLOODLINES especially at the border areas of Yorubaland extending from Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo. Some African-Americans, Haitians, etc have tested positive for Yoruba ancestry on the maternal and paternal lines using the services of AfricanAncestry.com as well but this is the haplogroup test. Hope this helps. |
Africaman:^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ Wow... @Africaman your collection of Ol'skool Yoruba/African-inspired songs is one of the most comprehensive I have ever seen on the Web in one place. Thanks for this post... you and Naptu2 also have the same type of deep interest in the groovy 1960s and 1970 music era and you are both very thorough. Been listening to Dizzy K's 1980s track that you posted here as well and it sure brings back memories. I Really like the Lijadu Sisters 1978 track... "Come on Home." "Danger" and "Come on Home" were very popular songs from the Legendary Lijadu Sisters back in the day in Lagos and some other Nigerian cities... and those 1960s/1970s/1980s songs still give me goose bumps! There's something very surreal about them that I cannot fully explain! However based on your number 4 entry in this post... I wanted to just quick point out to you that Orlando Julius-Ekemode [aka, O.J Ekemode] actually said it was the legendary "Godfather of Soul" James Brown that sampled his song "IJO SOUL" after James visited Nigeria in the 1960s and visited the club where he used to perform in Ibadan. He revealed this in an episode of "Teju BabyFace Show," Season 4 Episode 7, 6 years ago where he and the Latoya Aduke his African-American wife were special guests... my jaw nearly hit the floor based on the audacious revelations made... and I believe O.J Ekemode. Second, Orlando Julius-Ekemode also said it was he that INVENTED the Afro-beat sound in Nigeria and NOT Fela because back in the day, he had musical engagements with Fela who got inspired by Orlando's music style. OK... I just found a video Web link of "Teju Babyface Show Season 4 Episode 7" ==>https://ireporterstv.co/teju-babyface-show-season-4-episode-7/ ... Frankdoz8:This picture you uploaded is not from "Ebo" landing. It is a very popular photograph of an African-American man who was lynched in the U.S. well after 1900. The photograph was used even on post cards and they were popular spectacles for whites in the Deep South to watch. Ibos were NOT the only ones on board that slave ship... and there were other ethnicities on board that slave ship. There is a false impression that all those onboard the slave ship were Ebos[Ibos].
|
Frankdoz8:^^^^ ^^^^ That is NOTa picture of Ibo men going to Barbados on a slave ship. The picture is a modern-day photograph as you can see the men have almost well-combed hair. Some of the pictures you also uploaded here showing hangings are well-known photographs taken after 1900 during the days of the mass lynchings of African-Americans and even a few poor white people were lynched by whites based on mainly false accusations in the Deep South of the U.S. and lynchings continued well into the 1940s! Some of those pictures were published by Newsweek magazine in 2004. I still have that particular edition in my personal library. Hope this helps everyone to understand the source of the pictures better. |
Revolva:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Hello @Revolva This topic should be on the front page. More people need to know about Igala history as it relates to the surrounding ethnic groups that border Igalaland as well. Since 1991 I have been curious about who Igalas are after reading a magazine called "Roots" where an attempt was made by the journalist to say that "Igalas are Ibos[sic]" and that it was an Igala man that then moved to Ile-Ife and all that ill-digested stuff. But the writer of the article who was Ibo kept on showing similarities between Igala words and Yoruba words but could NOT show many central Ibo words that were similar to Yoruba words. I still have the magazine though. I'm also aware that it was the Igalas who introduced the "red chieftaincy caps" via Nsukka. This culture of wearing red caps was finally copied and spread to areas in Iboland that did not even have direct contact with the Igalas who mainly influenced Northern Ibo areas. First off, an elderly Ebira man actually posted on FaceBook in 2015 that Igalas evolved from the fusion of"Ebira Koto" and "Akpoto Yoruba." Second in 2017, the current Attah of Igala said Igala evolved from a movement of some people from Wukari which is in Taraba State today who then fused with a group of Yoruba, Edo and to some extent some Ibo. He also said Ifa is consulted before a new Attah of Igala is crowned. ==> https://punchng.com/im-first-attah-in-igala-history-with-one-wife-ameh-oboni/ "I’m first Attah in Igala history with one wife –Ameh Oboni" I was surprised while doing more research on Igalas in 2017 that the part where the Attah of Igala mentioned the Yoruba and Edo bloodlines in Igala nation was dubiously edited/removed from an official Facebook page used by Igalas. The Punch article above on the Attah of Igala's interview was re-posted on that official Facebook page used by Igalas and the person who did it only left the Jukun influence and I think the military conquest and cultutral influence the Igala Kingdom had on the Ibo area[Northern Ibo of Anambra, Enugu axis, etc]. ==> https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/500-years-of-igalas-in-enugu.html#:~:text=The%20Igala%20people%20who%20in,Government%20Areas%20of%20Enugu%20State. "500 years of Igalas in Enugu" I wonder why anybody would try to hide the truth of what the Attah said about the Yoruba and Edo influences and bloodlines! Many Igalas who were on that FB page did NOT even realise that the article had been edited! It would have been interesting to know what they all had to say about the Yoruba and Edo connection instead of only talking about the Jukun connection! An Attah [Idoko]also invited some people or craftsmen from then North or Niger State axis who settled in Igalaland and have become Igalanised. It is not strange that Igala language is 65% to 70% Yoruboid with influences from Idoma and some other surrounding linguistic influences. The Ifa corpus is also of Yoruba origin so there is a Yoruba connection in Igala. Ifa is also practiced among the Edos[Bini and Esan]. The Esans as we know are of Bini origin but left Bini to Esanland because of the upheavals in Bini under a great Oba of Benin. Even Nri which was influenced by Igalas also has "Afa" oracle which is consulted before any Eze Nri is coronated! Nris had no kingship system until the arrival of the Igalas. So Nri could NOT have been the so-called oldest kingdom in Nigeria when it was Igalas that introduced the kingship system to them. It was even an Umueri group that revealed this information about the Igala influence on the Nri Kingship system in the Vanguard newspaper when there was a controversy over whether it is Umueri or Aguleri or Nri that is the cradle of Ibos! The article is still online. "Egungun" in Yoruba and "Egwugwu" in Igala which refers to the Egungun masquerade [Egungun means "bone" in Yoruba and metaphorically means that the dead body/spirit has risen]. Egwugwu is known and used among the Igala-associated communities of Enugu [Nsukka etc], Anambra [ Onitsha, Aguleri and co], and Delta North[Illah, Ebu, Okpanam, Asaba] are some of the words with direct similary with Yorubaland. Ifa as used or consulted before an Attah is coronated by the King Makers is even a give away. Some of the Yoruboid words that some people are saying are used in Ibo where actually introduced by the Igalas whose bloodlines also run in Anambra, Enugu and Delta axis such as in Illah where Desmond Olusola Elliot's mother comes from. Infact a lot of the communities in Delta North have Igala bloodlines especially in the Oshimili axis. As I said, since 1991 I have been curious about who Igalas are and they are a very unique people with a great culture. Eri who was an Igala prince and the son of an Igala King[Achado] but I was surprised when during the visit of some African-Americans who took DNA tests linking them to Nigeria and they were taken to Anambra State and the top Ohaneze leader [Chief Nwodo] was refering to Eri's Origin as being Jewish from Israel. This is insulting to the intelligence of everyone and it seems some people want to wipe off Igala history in the South East. DNA tests done by Ibos especially in the UK the U.S. on AncestryDNA, 23andMe, etc show CLEARLY that all the Ibos do NOT have ANY Jewish bloodlines or DNA markers as seen in all the videos online. Even all the Yorubas who tested with these services do NOT have Hebrew or Arabian bloodlines as some misinformed people are saying but are indigenous to mainly West Africa just like the Ibos. No caucasian mixing... except with reference to those who recently married white women and Asians. ==> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igala_people ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ https://businessday.ng/life-arts/article/the-crowning-of-shimite-bello-spirit-behind-deltas-entrepreneurship-drive/ |
Africaman:^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ @Africaman Greetings to you. Thanks for getting back to me over that post of 20th of January, 2020. I actually posted a very detailed message to you and the NL Spambot just trapped my post. The NL Spambot is one of the 2 things that get me pissed with NL... the second thing that gets me pissed off with NL is the unbriddled ability of known trolls to open new accounts instantly by using free throwaway emails to continue to spread hate speech and misleading information on here. I contacted the Super Mods to untag my original post to and to my surprise I'm just realising from you that the post which I typed offhand was not restored by the Super Mods. I will send the message today because I fortunately saved the post/message into my computer notepad so I have been able to trace it based on the date [20th Jan 2020] you supplied to me. |
jarawa:^^^^ ^^^^ While I agree that Nigeria needs to collaborate internationally to stop the violence in parts of Nigeria... especially the North, this man has no right to offer advice that is in the public domain! What trash is this French Ambersador to Nigeria talking about? Have the French been able to STOP the Islamists/terrosrists operating freely in Mali for some years now? The French are also responsible for giving money to ISIS and other terrorists who kidnapped their citizens. The Americans too have been bombing Al-Shabab militants in Somalia without decimating them as of today. |

StreetFight:^^^^^ ^^^^^ These are strong words you have use... looter? OK... where is the EVIDENCE of looting? I'm someone who always stands for justice no matter whose ox is gored! Remember that the PDP DUBIOUSLY and HURRIEDLY produced FAKE and unsubstanciated series of documentaries on Tinubu's alleged looting of Lagos State on March 1, 2015 of 2015 just before the main presidential elections. AIT did that devilish video which was broadcast on AIT and online... very defamatory content. Tinubu took AIT and Raymond Dokpesi to court and sued him for defamation of character running into N150 billion and would have won the case and bankrupted AIT, but for the fact that the court order AIT to make a public apology to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on primetime TV on AIT and also retract all the documentaries. It was an out of court settlement brokered by lawyers on both sides LED BY Mike Ozekhome for Raymond Dokpesi. Dokpesi collected billions from the reckless and desperate politicians do the dirty and insulting documentary which was proved in court to be ENTIRELY FALSE. Justice Akinkugbe after adopting the settlement by both parties, ordered DAAR Communications Plc to publicly and unequivocally retract the documentary and also tender an unreserved public apology to Tinubu. Read more here: 1] https://guardian.ng/news/tinubu-dokpesi-settle-n150-billion-libel-suit-out-of-court/ "Tinubu, Dokpesi Settle N150 Billion Libel Suit Out Of Court" 2] http://www.aitonline.tv/post-tinubu_and_ait_agree_to_settle_out_of_court Management of AIT on January 29th 2016, sent a letter of apology to Tinubu. Read the letter by clicking the AIT link above. 3] https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/198019-tinubu-withdraws-suit-ait-apology-embarrassing-documentary.html I was even angry with Tinubu and his legal team for accepting the apology from AIT because the Lion of Bourdilon Documentary really damaged his image and even till today... some people still believe the contents of that video that was shown every night on AIT to tarnish Tinubu and even Buhari's image was falsely battered on NTA Network every night via another false documentary. I hope this helps to refresh your memory as regards the power play and falsehood that politicians engage in? Have a great week ahead... All the best!

kayjay69:^^^^^ ^^^^^ I agree with most of what YOU have stated in your post... but Bode George hasNOT always been on point with reference to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as YOU indicated. His comments within the last 3 to 4 years have been completely disjointed... more like schizophrenic when refering to Tinubu. Some years back he falsely accused Tinubu of being behind his prison travails which led the courts to sentence him to some time in prison for contract-splitting. Any way I am very sure about the inflated contracts issue when he was the Military Governor of Ondo State from 1888-1990 which I talked about in my first post on this thread. African Concord Magazine and Newswatch magazine smoked him out with their brilliant investigative journalism on the refurbish boat used for water transportation in the Ilaje axis of Ondo purchased via inflated. Some of us still have sharp memories on past events because keep magazines and important newspapers in our personal libraries. Then he says as a Christian, he habours NO grudges towards anyone and that he and Tinubu have reconciled about 2 years ago... and then in one fell swoop, he continues to rant about Tinubu in 2020. Something definitely is not right here. And tell me who is going to vote for a 75-year-old now in Nigeria when younger, savvy men and women below 60 exist? Even Tinubu should only remain behind the scenes and guide the younger generation because I have also seen that his reflexes are slowing down. 4 years ago, I saw his hand shaking for the first time which is a sign of some kind of neurological disorder such as parkinsons and his voice was slurred. Although he seems to have improved a bit which is cool. I know that a new type of surgery exists now for managing vibrations from parkinsons or alzheimers called DBS. He may have gone for such surgery on one of his previous trips abroad. Anyhow... it is Bode George that needs to shut up and stop saying things to pull his fellow kinsman down because of some subconscious envy. All the best! |
hisexcellency34:^^^^ ^^^^ Bode George is garrulous and talks trash sometimes at the age of 75! Tinubu laid the groundwork for the urban renewal of Lagos State after the massive infrastructural decay that had set in over the years as a result of the unguided, massive influx of people from all over the world into Lagos State especially from the early 1970s to the early 2000s... and it is still bursting at the seams! The Governors that took after Asiwaju Bola Tinubu [who is a chartered accountant and former senior staff of Mobil Nigeria] also built on the foundation left by Tinubu. I still prefer his legacies because he helped to increase the IGR of Lagos State from a paltry sum in 1999 to the 2000s to the billions per month that it is today. When Bode George was a naval officer and was the military Governor of Ondo State from 1988-1990, he was involved in a scam that the iconic Newswatch magazine [originally founded by Mr. Dele Giwa and his close associates like Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese, etc.]revealed. His government bought a refurbished passenger boat that was NOT new and it was passed off as a newly imported boat to be used in the Ilaje/river side area of Ondo State. The photograph of the so-called passenger mass transit boat was published in the magazine... detailing the INFLATED cost and other contracts allegedly INFLATED by Bode George and some of his cronies during the military rule where civilians could not even ask important questions and get detailed answers... or you could be framed up sometimes and sent to jail! Democracy is the BEST no matter what. At least you can asked questions now. The Ilajes of Ondo State themselves exposed the boat as a refurbished SCAM and it developed engine faults right after it was commisioned. I remember this story broke in the African Concord and in Newsweek magazine because the magazines are some of the 1960s/1970/1980s/1990s magazines in my original library collections. So this man should shut his mouth and stop exposing himself the more... On the other hand I think it is old age or age-related issues that are making him to talk in an unguarded manner like this. Silence is Golden! If he hasn't been talking too much lately, I probably would NOT have been typing this now. With the change in the military government, the boat purchase scam for the Ilaje people for mass transit was buried... but it can still be resurrected by the law courts! Enough said. [quote author=OndoFirstBorn post=86937814]Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has commissioned a 6km road leading to the houses of former governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede, former Commissioner for Urban Planning, Prince Solagbade Amodeni and others. The 6km road is a network of strategic and peculiar roads in the Alagbaka GRA area of Akure. The road, which has been abandoned for the past 23 years, connects 17 streets and links Alagabaka to the Federal secretariat. The Governor later took to his twitter account to throw a subtle shade at the former PDP Guber candidate in the state. In his tweets, the Governor said "Morning @TayoJegedeSAN. I hope you like the new road I built in your neighborhood totalling about 6km. It was neglected for over 20 years. Time is of essence. It is NOT just about constructing roads. Industialisation of that state is very important. splendour7:^^^^ ^^^^ How can his people use amala and ewedu to weaken him ![]() Ijebu and Remo sub-group of the Yoruba people of Lagos State and Ogun State who Anthony Joshua shares direct ancestral ties with do NOT have amala as their national food. It is Ikokore they eat and some other delicacies. Check up Ijebu delicacies online. It is the Oyo-Yorubas that have amala as a national food. The Ekitis, Ijesas, Ondos, etc are noted for pounded yam as their national food with goat meat egusi soup, morning, afternoon, and at night etc. ![]() There are regional differences in foods eaten by the Yoruba people based on soups and others and not the amala and ewedu some people erroneously think is the only food in the entire Yorubaland extending from Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo... with Yoruba settlers located even in Ghana since the days of the Oyo Empire centuries back. |
dre11:^^^^ ^^^^ I wish the family of the brilliant woman from Plateau State who passed on my full condolences. It is now obvious that it is NOT good for a woman to live alone in many locations around the world. In Nigeria, several women have been raped and eventually killed by domestic aids such as unverified drivers, cooks, etc, especially foreigners. I once read 2 years ago about a male domestic worker in Delta State... Asaba to be precise who was peeping at his unmarried female employer through a hole in the bathroom door while she was bathing [she was in her 30s, but had funds to rent a good house and who works in a financial institution]. A female relative of the lady paid an unscheduled visit to the house and walked in through the unlocked front door and caught the fool secretly peeping at his employer and as soon as the visiting relative came in she raised an alarm and they young guy fell off the high location where he was deeply engrossed and dislocated his waist! He was arrested by the police. The guy could as well have planned how to rape his employer later and even robbed and killed her in desperation if he had NOT been found out. |
@Olu317 I love your post on this thread... wish you a great 2020 and a fantastic new decade ahead as well. All the best! P.S. I do not want to post anything on that thread that mislabelled the etymology of Akara again so as not to further push the thread up or make it more visible. I would have acknowledged the comment that you made to me on that thread and so that is the reason why I had to make the comment here. The little % of Yoruboid words actually came into the northern area of Anambra and Enugu via the Igala who speak a Yoruboid language of between 65% to 70% similarity to core as even confirmed by the Attah of Igala Michael Oboni himself and Igala School here on NL. Infact an elderly Ebira man whose post I read criticising some young Igalas on Facebook for not knowing their ancestry said that Igala evolved from the fusion of Akpoto Yoruba and Ebira Koto. This definitely shows that Yoruba and Ebira bloodlines flow in the veins of Igalas who are at the confluence axis of Nigeria with some mixings later of some Edoid and a few Ibos to the south of Igaland. Igalas also moved via military conquest the current Anambra and Enugu axis and mixed with some aboriginals... and Igala-associated communities exist such as Aguleri, Umueri, Nri, Nsukka, Enugu-Ezike, Uzo Uwani axis in Enugu as well. Infact some people parading themselves as Ibo today are actually of direct Igala maternal and paternal lineage. This is what the Ooni of Ife and other Yoruba kings have to know so they can also interact more with the Attah of Igala so that more of these FACTS CAN COME OUT. It seems like when the Ooni was saying last year about the link between Ife and the Ugbos [Ilajes] who are the aborigines of Ife prior to the Oduduwa Dynasty, he was not refering to the Ibo tribe east of River Niger as such but he also seemed to confuse some of the few Yoruboid words in Ibo by thinking that it is the Ibos that have direct links with Yorubas or Ifes... but it is actually the Igalas who have more DIRECT blood ties with Yorubas via the Kogi State axis! DNA tests also show a high Benin/Togo Region for some Ibos in the several videos on AncestryDNA. All the several videos of Ibos and Yorubas also do not show any Jewish genetic markers for Ibos or even Arabian markers for Yorubas which debunks the so-called Lamurudu or even any Hebrew bloodline in Yorubas so far tested. Ancestry DNA Result: African Fulani man, Nigeria, Jalingo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFQVlUH30g8 |
sesan85:^^^^ ^^^^ @sesan85 I'm glad you also spotted that LIE from the female Guardian journalist [Njideka Agbo] as well which is now being spread by uninformed people. I was beginning to think that I was the only one until I spotted your post. Yup! Akara is a Yoruba word which is even used among the Yoruba Diaspora community in Bahia, Brazil as Akara je [Akara Ijesa] because Ijesas were among the Yoruba sub-groups that were deported on slave ships in the late 1700s and 1800s to Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Westmoreland in Jamaica where Bekuta or Abeokuta is located, Venezuela, Columbia, Guyana, etc, ... the Yoruba language, culture and religion are still strong and respected as of today! This is how one fool of Ibo origin wrote a long and FALSE article that went viral claiming that Abeokuta and Egbas are Ibos. My knowledge of world history of more than 40 years now clearly indicates that the Egbas are a branch of the Oyo people who used to live in Ibadan before they left and sellted in Abeokuta in the 1830s... and Abeokuta means under the rock. Of course because of the nearness of the Igalas to Anambra and Enugu States, these areas have Igala bloodlines mixed with the aborigines of that area. Some Yoruboid words [Igala is a Yoruboid language with up to 65% of the words derived from Yoruba] have found their ways into northern Iboland usage. Egungun which is masquerade in Yoruba is called Egwugwu by the Igalas of Kogi and of the Enugu area like Nsukka axis. Southern Ibos have a different name for "masquerade." It will interest you and everyone to know that Yoruba bloodlines flows or exists among the Igala via a group called "Akpoto Yoruba" mixed with "Ebira Koto." Even the Igalas emphatically state that they are RELATED to Igalas. This is why over 65% of Igala language is very similar to core Yoruba[words such as Ogede, Egungun and more]. But Ibo language which is directly south of Igalaland does not have even the kind of Yoruba words or close affinity with Yoruba language. It is via the Igala military conquests and migrations to the present Anambra and Enugu States that Yoruboid words[words derived from Yoruba] got into northern Ibolands via the Igala-associated communities such as Nsukka, Enugu-Ezike. Indirectly via Igala bloodline presence in Anambra and Enugu axis, Yoruba bloodlines exist among the northern Ibos such as Aguleri and other Igala-associated communities but some misinformed Ibos and tribal jingoists do not even realise this fact! An Attah of Igala [Attah Idoko] also invited craftsmen from Nupe and Hausa lands to Igalaland and they have become Igala as well. So Igalas according to the current Attah Michael Oboni have Yoruba, Edo, Taraba axis, and some Ibo bloodlines, BUT Ebiraland has bloodlines as well according to an elderly Ebira man that I saw on FB who criticised some of the younger Igalas of not knowing that Igala evolved from "Akpoto Yoruba" mixed with "Ebira Koto." The concept of Ibo NEVER existed until the arrival of the British who created a central Ibo language. The groups in Ibo today did NOT call themselves Ibo prior to the arrival of the British but identified themselves based on the names of their clans or sub-clans... NOTHING like Ibo or Igbo ethnic group! I have written my full response to this distortion of etymology of Akara and the history of Yoruba. There are many Yoruba words that have entered global usage that some young generation of people do not even know that they are of Yoruba origin. Words such as: 1. Oga [boss] with variants like Olusoga, Ikorodu Oga [the full name of Ikorodu named after the male founder] 2. Asewo [a prostitute who is a money changer] which has a mispelled pidgin English corruption to "ashawo." I have observed that some Ibos online are very notorious for claiming words and cultures that did not originate from them. Not all Ibos do this because there are those who are culturally grounded especially in the Owerri axis which is regarded as one of the main epicentres of Ibo origin. History has to be brought back to schools otherwise some misinformed journalists and ethnic jingoists will mislead others about African history with blatant, falsified history of theirs. All the best! |

BiafraIpob25:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ This is crazy and irresponsible! Akara is NOT an Ibo word but of Yoruba origin. Akara is called Kosai in the Hausa language. Read more here: ==>https://www.gounesco.com/how-to-prepare-beans-cake-akara-or-kosai/ ==>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akara The female writer [Njideka Agbo] of this Guardian article of 18 January 2018 is peddling FALSEHOOD. She is a cut-and-paste person and a very unprofessional journalist! I wonder why people like pilfering or falsifying other people's histories just to make themselves feel good? I have always insisted that some journalists are a DANGER to world history because they just copy FAKE or vandalized Wikipedia entries without dues diligence! Her article is even riddled with more historical errors as well. While not denying that "Eboes" were one of those tribes/ethnicities taken to Jamaica from the AREA between Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, etc from the former Bight of Biafra totalling 1,391,000 people based on the official information from the Slave Trade Database from the 1700s. Again majority of Ibos are NOT light in completion but dark brown skinned. I do know from my personal observations when I worked with a major multinational oil and gas firm while also living in Port Harcourt, Nigeria that some folks from the Umuahia axis can be light skinned, but over 97% of Ibos are dark brown-skinned or have different shades of brown skins from the 5 core Ibo-speaking states because I have always paid attention to little details. The idea by some people [who have not travelled widely or are unexposed] that most Ibos are light is the most STUPID thing to have ever come out of Nigeria. It is just a ridiculous stereotype since you will find Yorubas, Esan Edos, Bini Edos, Idomas, Efiks, Ibibios, Annangs, Congolese, Angolans, Taroks who are naturally light skinned and dark brown as well. The etymology or origin of the word AKARA is Yoruba. Even in Brazil and several countries of the Diaspora, Akara Ijesha is still eaten in Bahia, Brazil till today. The Yorubas brought Akara to Brazil and it also spread to other Caribbean countries where Yorubas were deported to on slave schooners or ships in the 1700s and 1800s. It is a major fact that the Yoruba are credited with the word Akara and they even introduced it to Ghana because Yorubas of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo engaged in long-distance trading and have had business dealings with Ghana since the days of the Oyo Empire which extended to Togo, way before Nigeria came into existence as a political entity. Many Yoruba descendants still live in Ghana for over 200 years now and many are Ghanain citizens. PLEASE read the link here: https://www.196flavors.com/nigeria-akara/ The origin of the word acarajé is interesting. Yoruba people (an ethnic group of Nigeria and Benin) shout “acará -je” when they sell akaras on the roadsides. This can be translated to: “I have akara” or “come and eat akara”, and that is what the Baianas women who sell it typically shout. In Bahia, acarajé is deep-fried in palm oil, also known as dendé oil, then sliced and served with various sides such as vatapá (dried shrimp paste), camarão (small sundried shrimp), pimenta (hot pepper sauce), caruru (okra stew) or salada. But back to West Africa, where this snack was originally created. It is called akara by the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria, but also kosai by the Hausa people of Nigeria or also koose in Ghana where it is a popular breakfast dish. Source: https://www.196flavors.com/nigeria-akara/ Last but not least, majority of those brought to Jamaica were of Akan origins [Coromantees or Fante/Asante, etc]and of Angola/Congo origins as well... but Africans were brought from 8 Regions of Africa including Mozambique and Madagascar. Several Jamaicans have also taken Haplogroup and Autosomal DNA tests from AfricanAncestry and AncestryDNA which reveal that a lot Jamaicans are 100% Africans without white bloodlines and they come from very diverse ethnic origins. I hope this helps to clear up the misleading information from that female journalist. Cc:sesan85 |

They should both listen to each other and not be selfish in their dealings with one another now... and down the road. Congrats to both of them!

pflourish:^^^^ ^^^^ ... same class with Emoney and Hushpuppi?Femi Otedola was on the Forbes list of dollar billionaires right until 2016 so his networth dropped due to inflation and the fact that he has divested from the shares he had in the oil company [Forte Oil Plc] of which he was the former chairman. Forbes also only deals with networths based on prices of stocks and shares... NOT physical cash. He has instead recently invested in power generation as part of the liberalisation of the sector in Nigeria. He has also donated money running into billions to worthy causes in local currency... so that to me is the definition of TRUE WEALTH and he earns my complete admiration! If Michael Adenuga who is in 3rd position of African-based billionaires opens up more on his full assets [instead of being reclusive] just like Aliko Dangote has done, he would most definitely overtake Aliko Dangote based on the latest billionaire rankings below: ==> https://www.forbes.com/africa-billionaires/list/ Hope this helps. |
Exmay:^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ I was just about to post my thoughts which are similar to yours when I saw your well written post and decided to quote YOU since you have said it all. These guys in the PDP are actually DISGRACING Africans by protesting to the embassies of these European countries[EU], and a few weeks back to the U.S. and UK embassies instead of resolving issues within Nigeria democratically since Nigeria is in a democracy. Uche Secondus and his gang members [such as Ologbondiyan and co]in that party called PDP should fight this battle without being spoon feed or given breast milk by the Europeans and Americans who have their own serious issues to deal with! France for instance has been in Mali trying to fight the Islamist insurgents with great difficulty, and even the U.S. has been bombing Al-Shabab terrorist positions in Somalia for years with jet fighters without being able to immobilise them and the terrorists have been attacking Kenyan soil as well because there are ethnic Somalis in Kenya so it is easy to Somalis to hide in Kenya as well and cause damage to Kenyan targets. All the best. |
Chevronstaff:^^^^ ^^^^ Absolutely correct @Chevronstaff Thanks for bringing this up. ![]() I had to correct some folks on this thread about the misleading... and annoying headline or caption of the thread before I actually saw your post on page 1 of this thread! It's actually the Mods that change or modify headlines of OPs perhaps to manage space in the title space, but in doing so, they have to make sure they do NOT mislead readers of this forum because there are many well-read and intelligent men who use NL and also some very impulsive readers who only read the headlines and begin to type furiously away by cursing and without reading to comprehend. China has done the RIGHT thing by protecting citizens of other countries by stopping the issuing of visas and preventing all Chinese citizens from leaving China because as of yesterday, over 300 of Chinese citizens especially from the epicentre of the viral outbreak in Wuhan have passed on. A Chinese from Wuhan also died 2 days ago in the Phillipines after coming in enroute Hong Kong. There are now more than 160 confirmed cases in 26 countries or territories outside of mainland China. Germany confirmed its 10th case on Sunday, and there were also new cases reported South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Macao and Hong Kong. =>https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/02/asia/wuhan-coronavirus-philippines-intl-hnk/index.html =>https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/02/world/asia/philippines-coronavirus-china.html =>https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51345855 It has nothing to do with Nigeria or China messing up! It is NOT just Nigerians that will be denied entry into China... but citizens of all countries especially as Corona Virus has NO cure as of NOW! If this thing makes landfall in Nigeria for instance it will be DEADLINE because that country is still reeling from the Lassa Virus[ I prefer to call it Lassa Virus and not Lassa Fever which is very deadly like Ebola with the same symptoms such as very high fever or body temperature and internal bleeding from the gums and body linings]. I hope that the research for the new vaccine cure by British researchers for corona virus can be found ASAP so that the global economy does NOT go into a quick recession due to low demand of crude oil and disruptions to international travel and international business transactions. All the best. |

naaija:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Great! Nobody passed on. ![]() Extra care is needed when accelerating or applying the car brakes. |
k2money:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ @k2money You are absolutely right... autosomal and haplogroup DNA tests that have been done on Yoruba people in the U.S. and UK via AncestryDNA and 23andMe clearly shows that Yorubas have NO Arab or so-called Hebrew DNA genetic markers. Yorubas who number over 45 million in Nigeria alone and more in Benin and Togo have ancestral bloodlines as well with the Benin/Togo region and some percentages from Ghana/Ivory Coast. This is as a result of the fact that Yorubas share boundaries with the Ewe of Togo/Ghana and also with the Fon and Aja. So you have some genetic intermingling at the frontier areas of Yorubaland! The Oyo Empire also extended to the Togo axis and I believe some Yorubas actually have maternal origins from the military conquests of centuries back from Benin and Togo region... including some Nupe [not up to Niger State but the Kwara Nupe] and the Bariba/Batonu of the Kwara axis that were also conquered and incorporated into the Oyo Empire as vassals. You can check YouTube for several videos on Nigerians and African-Americans/Afro-Caribbeans who have taken those autosomal and haplogroup DNA tests. Below is a 2016 DNA test for Alex Boye who is a British-Nigerian of Yoruba parentage, but now based in the U.S. where he lives and is married to a white American woman. In 2018, there was another major update to all the results and all Yorubas where merged with the Benin/Togo Region. DNA RESULTS! ALEX IS NOT 100% NIGERIAN!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG0DBuBeKWM[10:13] Oct 31, 2016 - Uploaded by TheBoyeFamilyJewels So the reference to Arabian/Mecca bogus migration/information by some people is unfounded and this has been laid to rest with authentic DNA tests. Yorubas are indigenous completely to West Africa or are naturally 100% unicorns with the exception of recent marriages with caucasians or Europeans and Lebanese/Iranians that I'am aware of... NO MIXTURES whatsoever with Arabs, Berbers, Jews, etc, from several centuries back! Fulanis who number 20 million in the entire Africa have some North Africa bloodlines of less than 20% from Morocco[Berber] with a little Iberian Peninsula[Spain] based on the over 700 years of Berber/Arab invasion of Spain and Portugal before the original land owners defeated the muslims and pushed them out of Europe in 1492! The rest of the larger Fulani ancestry percentage is indigenous to West Africa from the Senegal/Guinea/Mauretania area which I think is mainly the maternal lineage from conquest of some indigenous African ethnic groups like the Bambara, some Hausa, etc. The Fulani DNA test video is below. Ancestry DNA test for Fulani of West Africa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U40rqwRp9gk[12:57] Jul 26, 2018 - Uploaded by Mamzo Barry Lastly, even the Ibos that have been falsely claiming Jewish origin do NOT any Jewish DNA markers in their bloodline. They are pure West Africans based on tests done on Ibos living in the U.S. and UK via AncestryDNA and 23andMe. They have Nigeria, Benin/Togo, Cameroon/Congo in varying percentages as well. I hope you find this information useful! All the best! Cc:godspeed |
berbs:^^^^^^ LOL... @berbs Ok... Click on the Wikipedia link above or here ==> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_panther to see the dark-haired Black Leopards of Asia and Africa. In America it is usually Black Jaguars that are called Panthers. Black LEOPARDS and Black JAGUARS arise due to genetic variations just like we have ALBINISM in almost all species of animals... including white people who living with albinism. These[black leopards and black jaguars] are generically refered to as BLACK PANTHERS from the PANTHERA FAMILY or CAT FAMILY. Below is a picture of the black leopard attached to my post... which is called "Akata" in the Yoruba language... and is also the symbol of the iconic African-American Civil Rights organisation called the "Black Panther Party" of the 1960s and 1970s that Nigerians of Yoruba ancestry in Nigeria and the United States refered to as "Akata"! ==> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Panther_Party Third, Akata is also used in Yoruba language as a metaphor for any person of African ancestry who has lived abroad for a long time especially in the U.S and UK, etc. Yorubas in the UK proudly refered to themselves as Akata and even parents and Yorubas in Nigeria used the word Akata as a word of prestige... meaning that someone has travelled abroad for studies or lived abroad! Contrary to some fake news/misleading Youtube videos posted online especially on Wikipedia and some African-American fora, the word Akata has never been used by the Yoruba people [who number over 45 million people in Nigeria alone... not counting those in Benin Republic, Togo and the larger Diaspora]as a derogatory word for African-Americans. Akata also applies to Yorubas and non-Yorubas of Nigerian and African origin who have lived abroad for long. The metaphoric opposite of "Akata" or black panther is "Ologbo"or the domestic cat/house cat. So Nigerians who live on African soil are metaphorically-speaking "Ologbos" since the black panther is not domesticated but lives in the jungle or "abroad." Many languages around the world including English include metaphors for communicating... i.e., if you say a man or woman has a "heart of gold" it is a metaphor for a man or woman who is kind-hearted. I hope this clears up the initial confusion? All the best.

AMOTEKUN2023:^^^^^ ^^^^^ A very NICE list but... Akata means Panther [i.e, The black panther or black leopard] A black panther is the melanistic colour variant of any Panthera, particularly of the leopard (P. pardus) in Asia and Africa, and the jaguar (P. onca) in the Americas. ===> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_panther |
lindaayim:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ OK... it's time to bump this insightful thread up in 2020! The post is still very relevant as of today. Just to name a few... There are naturalized Americans of Nigerian descent in the U.S. Police... Deputy Adewale Olukoju who is an ex-Olympian is one of them. He is ex-Olympian Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju's Husband and they got married in 1998. Here is a link below on Adewale and Fatima Olukoju ==>https://www.pe.com/2013/01/11/riverside-fitness-coach-never-forgets-her-roots/ Another guy of Nigerian descent is[b] Officer Akintayo Akintunde[/b] who has worked with the Washington, District of Columbia police in the United States since May 2016. Incidentally Akintayo Akintunde who graduated in 2016 from the University of Baltimore has joined the league of young people that are profiled as suspected criminals based on their looks [i.e wearing braided hair or dreadlocks] by the Nigerian police after only spending 4 days in Nigeria! Akintayo Akintunde was featured in "Beyond the Badge" D.C Police Web-series. ==>https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/beyond-badge ~~~~ Beyond The Badge: Ep. 2 | "Rise~N~Grind" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4LBRGDkUrc[2:39] Nov 6, 2018 - Uploaded by OfficialDCPolice Episode 2: "Rise~N~Grind" In this week's episode, we go beyond the badge with Officer Akintunde. ~~~~ On the other hand many U.S.-born and naturalized Nigerians are in the U.S. Armed Forces and have been on combat duties right from the 1st Gulf War in Iraq and the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in 1990. Perception is stronger than reality... so most of the time if a person begins to have that inner dialog about being sidelined in American or any Western country, that is what will manifest in the physical world... because people can subconsciously sense if another person has low self-esteem or doubts himself or herself. So "faking it till you make it with a smile," i.e, "learn how to win friends and influence people" and anybody will see his or her career skyrocket! Even with some racists or white supremacists still existing in America... and worse still in Russia where even mixed race children and young adults get picked on by the some young Russian gangs. Well with the rise in ancestral DNA tests from Ancestry.com, 23andMe, and AfricanAncestry, a lot of whites are begining to appreciate the FACT that race is indeed a social construct and I have met many friendly whites and have never experienced racism though in all my dealings and travels! My 2 cents, Hope this helps. All the best!
