We have been audited many times by IRS before. So we followed the advice of the attorney that handled the cases.
That's all. Men I like your style, you're well equipped with information. There are many loophole in the tax code here, very few take advantage of. What he did is no different from with what TRUMP did. One need to be knowledgeable with advice of professionals in those line to take full advantage on the system legal. I don't know much about Nigeria tax code anymore. I hope some of these are in our tax code too, all these make business strive to create opportunity for our wasteful young brans roaming around doing noting. With asset depreciations credited annually to companies here, is what create huge market of commercial industrial used machinery. Many companies take advantaged of this code to keep there business are float. All these are in line with good business practice by law. I beg make I rest small with all this long grammar self. InvertedHammer: / I am not in Nigeria. I do not have the luxury to be running around to look for stuff and when I did delegate, the long stories no be here. I like gadgets. I love equipment. I don't like the crude way Nigerians produce stuff. My hues and cries are always about people not getting the value of what they pay for in Nigeria because we love shortcuts. There are certain things that could be sourced locally like steel for trailers and iron works for the site. But there are certain things I will not leave to Nigerian workers.
This project is not primarily profit-driven. It has to be shown that we can operate with standard. That's all. Enough of the criticism.
NB: You mentioned that with Superior CNC multiple Axis machines one can make better ones in less than a week. Did you leave any contact numbers? No! You expect potential customers to pry it out of you . Everyone does not have luxury of that time. I have purchased a lot of things through contacts on NL. Some people advertise without details. I saw a very informative video about some steel work productions in Aba. Guess what? When the 15 minutes video was over, there was no mention of address or contact information. Go figure! \ My brother I fill your pain, I didn't say am making them now. I used to, that was 25 years plus ago before I left Naija. Am here since then in the same field in different level, about to retired after many years of service. I am just imagining why those little things are probably not making them in Naija anymore. Mind you not every Naija product that are not in good quality, it's just unfortunate our SON government agency went sleeping for many decades that why. I really appreciate your patriotism for trying to make difference in your own capacity by doing the right thing not for the money, many people of nowadays in that country didn't care about anything except money. They don't even want to work for it, but get rich overnight. I wish many of us start thinking in your direction to turn things around for the betterment of our people. |

InvertedHammer: We are starting production in Enugu and Abuja this October once the rainy season subsidizes. The machines have successfully landed in Nigeria, cleared and being installed.
Our team is still working on how to make blocks similar to what is obtainable in Home Depot but close to the current price in Nigeria (all logistics factored in).
I will keep the forum informed. Why importing this machine, is it cheaper to import them now. This machines can be easily constructed in Naija which I believe may not cost half of the price of imported one. When I was in Nigeria 25 years ago I used to make complicated Indusral machines then just ordinary block making machine, even with little less technology then. Today with superior CNC multiple Axis machines one can make better ones in less then a week. What is going on out there now? |

Hajji M. My Oga don't let us start argument on block strength, you remember when Brabus tied to prove the strength of two different blocks by laying them and driving bus through them. I believe he was trying to make a point then. I cant stop laughing when I saw that, instead of him showing us mixture ratio and scientific proving on load pressure to justifies his claim. |

Aventures: Boss, Greetings sir, I appreciate considerate people that practice what they preach. Sir you are very right about the fact that you get mega difference from contractor for same design, the reason is not far fetched most contractor don't do detail calculations they will just look at the building design and use previous knowledge of a job similar edit the quote and add a crazy margin in order to be on the save sides in case the quote flies by chance. I won't blame the contractors as such because so many are weary of wasted efforts, Sir do you know some contractors that are not active on NL will come here pick builder's contact and call posing to be a client, send you drawings ask question and they will collect your quote, then they will go and present to their offline client. I have personally unmasked such character. May God Help us My God, are you serious? I do understand it's take time and effort to put those quotations together, in my opinion some stipend should be paid to whom ever put those quotes in for the job, regardless of the outcome. That is been fear in my opinion. My second point is the most disturbing one to me. When one received 3 quotations, from 3 different people that as know connections with one another, if the differences is between 100k - 300k one can make decisions on which one of them provide good services with less headache, even with little higher price then his competitor. But in most case reality what we saw in margin of million between them. Guess what, many of us will do, just dump them all start calling those old workers that build our dad, uncle, brothers, anti, homes. At the end of the day we spend less for the job, from all those quotations that we received earlier. |

diordaves: No builder on Nairaland will do what?..........I think you should speak for yourself. Assuming collective responsibility on occasion like this could be dangerous to your business. Too many builders here on Nairaland have left sour taste in the mouth of their clients. The recriminations are everywhere to see. I like your technical take on rendering. Always a pleasure to read this aspect of you. But that is not the issue. The issue is labour price transparency. It is the subterfuge, the kurukere of padding and milking the job for all it's worth. What we are saying is why will Mr A render (plaster) a building for N5 and MR B in a different location but similar building plaster for N100? Or even in same location? Why the astronomical price differentia? The paying clients are saying they want a "standard" charge so they can plan and budget appropriately. Are Nigerian contractors helping clients to save money by implementing cost saving measures on site and pass some if not all the saving to clients? The answer is a resounding NO! In fact on the contrary, most contractors are implementing measures to steal from the clients. This is the issue at stake. Now mind you, cost saving is not same as cutting corners. And this brings us to scaffolding.
The fact that you do partial scaffolding for just a particular section doesn't mean the scaffolding is not safe. Scaffolding has a lot to do with the dead and live load that will bear on it. So if you have a situation where 30 to 40 workers at every point in time will be using it with additional materials, then of course you may need a N550K amount of wood, plank or bamboo. This is because of the workload. But if you are plastering a four flat with just an average of 3 workers using the scaffold at each point in time; in the name of all that is good, what do you need a N550K outlay of wood, plank and bamboo for? So the contractor will use your safety argument approach to "put fear" in the mind of the novice clients and quote for a heavy duty scaffold of N550K only to then go ahead and use his superior knowledge and implement the appropriate level of scaffolding and pocket the difference. This is stealing.
Contractors pass some savings to your fee paying clients. They need it like the dessert need the rain. Stop using fear campaign to steal from clients. I agree with some of your points, the last phrase in your last sentence in my opinion is not appropriate. Never the less, some of these contractors in this forum are ridiculous. if you noticed lately many of them have stopped displaying jobs and cost analysis . It's very clear most clients especially the diasporas two to five years back have been ripped off big time. For example, when I want to do my fence pillars, window hood and some other little designs on my building wall. A contractor right here from Niaraland send me quotation for 13 pillars, 16 small windows, 18 big windows of 5x4 total cost of 1.2m two years ago. I end up spending the same amount to plaster internal, external including fence design, plastering all entire describe jobs inclusive for 1.3m. Imagine fencing and pillar design labor cost of 700k. As I write, I'm dealing with one of these contractors that was recommended to me for doing good job, also be displaying his job here. He gave me a blank quotation of material needed for the job, without specifying what type and cost of the materials. But he can quickly include his labor cost. That looks to me like you giving someone signed check without writing amount on it, that is how stupid some of them think we are. . I can go on and on to describe attitude of some of these so call contractors behind the screen of the computer. Some of them will even compare their charges with amount of dollars being paying people outside of Nigeria, but they forget that services render here are different compare to what many of them do with out ethic of professionalism. |

rabcnesbit: Thanks for the advice. Yes, he initially quoted them separately, as we were doing the work in stages. Quoted 180k for plastering the decking (inside ceiling), which he has already done and paid. Then 900k for interior and 150k for the exterior, which made no sense to me (ie. the big difference between the labour for interior and exterior). Anyway, we now negotiated to include both the exterior and interior for 900k. On another matter, any idea what I should be looking to pay for scaffolding for the exterior plastering work, as this is not part of the labour for the plastering? Men how big is this your house, did it include fence in and out? |

44chux: How would you know if the water had issues that would take a long time to manifest symptoms.
Water quality should be tested annually for individuals and quarterly for organisations. They test for minimum of the following:
Total coliform bacteria Nitrate/Nitrites pH Total dissolved solids (TDS). Fluoride Organic Carbon Contaminants (Pesticides, Industrial Pollution etc.)
In south-south it used to cost about 50k-150k and can be done by many laboratories including medical labs, petroleum analysis labs etc. Normally it preceeds borehole treatment but most folks just treat without testing.
On your own you can actually readup on likely/general profile of the water in your area online or the nearby university library as there are a lot of project topics by geology students at bsc and msc levels about borehole quality and groundwater contamination
DIY kits do exist for self testing but require basic knowledge. 50-150k to test water quality? Why should its be individual or commercial entities business in the first place, it's should be government business to make sure sefe water get to the citizenry for consumption. All the water that go through pipes in my location is tested every 5 minutes, I repeat every 5 minute 24/7 throughout the years. |

This guy called 'Rushtec' is a fraud. He is not who i taught he is. All i have received from him is suffering and regret.
I am a Nigerian living in Canada and am building my little house in Nigeria. I contacted this guy called 'Rushtec' here on nairaland to supply and installed my roof, after i might have seen some of the pictures he has posted here online, which he claim is his work. He assured me he was going to give me a good and neat job. He gave me a quotation (see picture below) for supplying and installing 0.45 metcoppo . I am always skeptical doing business online with someone i have not met, but i decided to trust him. bad decision i ever made. I payed him money for the roofing sheet, (about #1.3million), transportation cost (#80,000) which he later requested another #20,000, and part payment for the installation cost.
He sold me 0.4 mm instead of 0.45 mm that i payed for ( this was confirmed by another roofing guy after). His guys came in and did a rush installation for me and left. Now there is leakage everywhere in the house from the poor overlapping they did. I called him to inform this, but he got so upset and blame it on the woodwork. There are tiny holes everywhere in the metcoppo roofing sheet that sold me.
I told him post this review, he told me i should go ahead that his online client is on 5%. Very bad thing to say to a client.

FastShipping: How deep is your borehole? Is it a low yield, medium or high yield? Mine was called medium yield but from all indication it is low yield at best.
My own borehole only lasted less than 6 hours before it packed up. The guy had the gut to ask me to provide money to buy him another machine for him to burn again. I already promised to get a new pumping machine but he must go find a machine to rent to fix the mess of a borehole he did before I bring new machine. I don't trust this guy a bit with the way he makes promises and never acted on them. This guy has never for once made a single promise to me that he fulfilled for once. Never! From day one, he has been a disappointment and I told him that. I regret ever giving this guy the borehole. Sorry to say this, there in nothing called MEDIUM YEILD from my experience. That was where my predicament started, with this so called medium yield. The first driller, our agreement was to drill 60 meters according to the report. He drilled between 38 and 40 meters and he hit water. Unfortunately I later found out his machine could not drill through the rock above the 40 meters. He stopped and told me that it was a medium yield. Everyday we tried, he pumped for half hour with low pressure and it stopped pumping. We did this back and forth for over 2 months arguing about pump and generator. He told me that the generator had no power to pump. He made over 30 appointments in between 2 months and only showed up twice. I finally made up my mind and told him I am ready to pay all over again and that was when he opened up, and introduce me to the driller. That could drill it with the right equipment, it took about 2 days to get the guys to the site. In 4 hours their machine blasted through the rock, hit the water aquifer. I stopped them at 70 meters, according to my average calculation between the two tests that I did. The total length of the borehole 70 meters pumping depth is 46 meters laid out pipes to the tower is about another 16 meters. The total pumping length is about 62 meters. We were able to pump 5000 liters in exactly 1 hour with high pressure pumping in every 4 hours . Enclosed is a result of the first medium yield pumping at 38-40 meters. |

FastShipping: This is not something to sort out amicably. If you paid someone 25k for survey, 500k to drill borehole and 30k as bonus after claiming he gave me the best borehole in town and the borehole only lasted for less than 6 hours in operation, then that is a damn bad borehole. When this borehole was first drilled, I had my reservation because I heard water was only pumped out from it for about one hour before this guy came back to site 3-4 days later to insert pump. How can one pump water out from a borehole for just about one hour after drilling and claim the said borehole is the best in town? When he inserted the pump, I asked Hajj and Rotech about the pump and they both told me the pump was Chinese and not good. I confronted this guy that the pump was not fit for my borehole but he said the pump never failed him. This pump turned out to be bad as Rotech and Hajj predicted. The pump did not last 6 hours in service. The borehole lacks water and the pump got burnt. This guy sweet talked the borehole and I even gave him 30,000 Naira as bonus. He told me as long as we don't pump more than 2 hours every other days, the borehole will last for ages. He promised that if the borehole breaks down within the first year, I should call him and he is coming down to site to sort it out immediately. That statement from him gave me assurance. But he's now texting me every week promising to come next week, next week and next week. The text I got from him yesterday got me so angry. He told me he sent people to sort it out and they haven't been able to come there to sort it out. This is the third promise he made that went by without coming to sort it out.
This guy has never made a single promise to me and kept to his word. He has disappointed me and reneged on his promises to me 100% of the time. It's been almost four weeks since the borehole broke down and yet hasn't been able to come to site and stay there to fix this borehole. It is one excuse after another. He asked me to help him with funds but I told him how can I help you with funds when you have never for once kept your words or promises to me. I am not prepared to give him a penny upfront to fix it because this guy has no honesty in him. I hate when people make promises and don't act on them. This guy has never kept his word once right from the day he got paid to do survey till today. I am really angry with this guy because he thinks he is dealing with a fool. Hmm, this sounds like my story. I let an eye witness write the predicaments of the whole story. In my case, I did two different test with conflicting results from two different vendors. I got the average of the two results and based my drilling depth on that average, about a meter away from one and other. After this, I brought every single material that was used still speed 900k for the drilling alone. Alhamduliahi the ends result is a success. Attached is the brand of pump I bought last year for 75k, I brought same one 6 years ago that still in service. This give me confidence to buy the same brand again.
