It is gladdening that these issues are beginning to gain prominense. It is up to nigerians to either see them as opportunties or as threats. Nigerian fish farmers should continue to explore ways to be more efficient in fish production in order to achieve a competitve per unit cost. Fish feed alone constitues about 70% of operating cost in nigeria despite the abundance of agric wastes in the country that can be easily converted into fish feed. We also have a poor marketing approach for our products, the value chain is poorly developed. By now, we should have aggregators for locally farmed fishes who will buy from local farms, preserve them in cold rooms and sell in cartons. This will eliminate the existence of middle market players who are responsible for the high retail prices of locally farmed fishes.

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m):
To get the best result in a recirculatory system, you need to combine bio filtration with sedimentation. Sedimentation removes the coarse materials coming from the water which includes the fish poo and left over food. Durante sells plastic bio filtration and sedimentation equipments. They are cheap and effective. I have seen them. For all your fish farming resources, download the PDF file from this site. It is prepared by USAID

Lame duck. All that is needed in the agric sector is an enabling environment. Make land more easily accessible, create farming villages, provide funds at affordable rates, make the trains work, provide more education on modern farming approaches through the media. leave the private sector to do the rest.

@ Surveyprof, Here are answers to your questions:

The criminals collected cash in dollars(they requested that the N3m be converted to dollars for easy handling) by hand at an agreed location. The money was given without involving the police to avoid putting the life of the victim at risk.

The criminal used the SIM card of the victim on a cheap phone and changed locations in order not to be tracked, knowing that the victim is an MTN staff. At a time, they were tracked to be talking from Apapa and at other times at Ebute Metta.

The second security guard is an Hausa and nothing points at his involvement. Innocent communicated with the kidnappers in his native Uyo language thereby keeping the other security guy in the dark

Awoyaya is close to Greenspring, if you leave around , please be careful. The criminals are still on the loose and are suspected to have hosted the victim somewhere around Épe. The captor owns the house where he lives with his family. He kept the victim at the boys quarters. He speaks calabar language. His wife is aware of his criminal business. One of the boys that works with him told the victim that the kingpin was an ex-convict who had killed his wife in the past. He spent less than 2 years behind bar.

The suspect once worked as a security man at a school in the neighborhood, efforts is being made to get any information from his previous employer

The theft of vehicle and the kidnapp have been reported to the police with reservations, the captor boasts of being "well connected" and threatened severe repercussion if the kidnap was reported to the police.

This is no malalignment. The criminal is at large and every evidence points at his involvement. H left with all his property in preparedness for the crime. His colleagues claims to have killed hm without any evidence.
CrimeKindly Help Track This Criminal Kidnapper - Innocent Okure by lagbaja(op):
The person whose picture appears below by name Innocent Okure (and sometimes goes by Innocent Abraham) was involved in the kidnap of his benefactor at Awoyaya on the Lekki Axis. He hails from Uyo. The benefactor was a staff of MTN Nigeria. he was kidnapped on Thursday 21st March 2013. His benefactor employed him as a security staff when he lost his previous security job being of the same church as the benefactor.

On the day of the event,Innocent woke up unusually at 4.30 AM (as seen by the 2nd security personnel who was of Hausa Origin) he made calls to certain people on the phone speaking in his Uyo dialect. As the benefactor was leaving for work on the day in his almost brand new Toyota Avensis, Innocent begged to join him as he said he had some urgent thing to do at Victoria Island. Just after about 50m drive along the road, they were stopped by 3 gun wielding young men, who immediately transferred the benefactor into their car without Innocent following.

Innocent, on his facebook account (http://www.facebook.com/innocent.okure) claims to work with ChevronTexaco as technical coordinator and claimed to have attend oxford college, these, he does to deceive unsuspecting members of the public

The Calabar speaking kidnappers held on to the benefactor for a week and released him after collecting a ransome of N3m. They claim to have "deleted" Innocent to cover him up, however there was no trace of such occurrence. Innocent is suspected to have disappeared with the benefactor's car. Checks at Innocents's apartment in the house shows that he had left with all his belongings. These kidnappers in connivance with informants in the neighborhood were reported to have kidnapped 2 other people in the past.

Please if you have any information about this criminal, kindly email the details to doman2000@gmail.com

Thank you

EducationRe: Osun Distributes Free Tablet-Computers To Students by lagbaja(m): 7:10pm On Mar 19, 2013
courage89: I think this is not only a bad idea, but wastage of public funds. How are these people to charge tablets when there is no constant electricity? What benefit/benefits are they to gain by learning how to use e-tablets, that will be useful to them in real life? How much are they expensing on these elephant projects? How do you quantify the benefits of these projects and how do you measure its success?

Why not use these funds to build libraries, and equip them with necessary books, past questions and other tools to enabble these student focus properly. Why not use these funds to subsidize after hour lessons for these students. Why not use the money to setup computer labs, and employ competent teachers to teach these students the fundamental rudiments of ict.
Open up your mind. Don't you charge your phone in spite of lack of constant electricity. With this tool, the students can learn in privacy and into the night. Providing libraries and the others u mentioned can only be complements and not replacements.

RomanceRe: Can I Marry My Senior Brother's Wife? by lagbaja(m): 7:57pm On Mar 07, 2013
Marrying her will creat a very very complicated situation. Your decision must be one that is fair to all and at best, it must balance all interest. This is the 21st century.ancient solution can no longer suffice. How would her 5 children see you particularly the 19 year old ( As uncle or as step father ? How will your children see you ? . How will your wife take it,yoruba will say " orisa jen pe meji obirin ko is". no woman wants a rival. Your best bet is to stay nice to her like you have been doing. Please don't be tempted to have any affair with her.let her sort herself out. Fact is if you go ahead, its clear that u will have so much trouble in your hands. You don't want to sacrifice the peace and harmony of your own family just to please your brother's wife
AgricultureRe: He Wants To Resign & Do Vegetable Farming - Please Advice by lagbaja(m): 3:35pm On Feb 27, 2013
Great decision. 4 things you must do to be successful as a vegetable farmer
1. make sure you have access to adequate water (you need at least 10,000 litres of water per day to irrigate 1 hectare)
2. Use a drip Irrigation system (buy emitter or drip tapes, that is what you will use to water the plants everyday and to also apply fertilizer straight to the roots. read about it)and a green house if you can afford one , it costs much but you wont regret the decision.
3. Get hybrid seeds. Tomatoes is the most lucrative. You can make over 50m on one hectare of land per annum if you do green house farming.
4. Use fertilizers, either organic or inorganic.

Best of luck
PoliticsRe: APC: Tambuwal For President? by lagbaja(m): 9:32pm On Feb 17, 2013
People don't seem to realise that a lot has changed and is changing about Nigerian politics. Current Nigeria'w demographic statistics shows that it is majorly made up of youths (youth within the voting age bracket account for more than 60%. 45 million Nigerian youths are connected to the internet and are daily fed with current information. Religion and Ethnicity won't be very important in the next dispensation. Credibility and Capacity will be the determinat. This will be judged by the candidates's antecedents and campagin creativity. Abiola and Kingibe were both muslims. They won their election on the eve of the elections at the debate. Tofa lost because he had nothing to offer. With adequate information and free/fair elections, nigerians are smart enough to choose the right leaders come 2015.

Nigerians are very used to the jackpot mentality. You hear of a business and its attractiveness, you throw you money at it without doing the other things that is required to make success of it. How could you have dolled out N700k all at once as if you are buying shares in Apple. Why didn't you follow the farming plan sent to you so that you can follow the progress and pay in installments as milestones are crossed. This idea is a start-up and will have teething problems. Your coming to the farm will help you see things for yourself, proffer advises and learn from them. Unfortunately, you learnt no lessons from the mistakes that were made.

I have joined in this venture and I have been on the farm twice since my investment. I pay in installment. I have seen some of their problems and i have been proffering advises which are beginning to materialize. Don't sit in your office and expect one pastor to perform miracles for you. If you don't have time to do this, put your money elsewhere where you can monitor.

the future of nollywood [if any] is at stake here - south Africans are busy taking over all the profitable business in Nigeria.

here see this quote

and this

how do Africa Magic pay our actors for their films they play on their TV channels everyday!

valid point!

Before you say jack, our actor will have to go to SA and do obeisance before getting a role in to play in Nigerian film.

There is problem in nollywood!
It is called Competition, you are either up to it or you quit. Competion is warfare. No point getting emotional, simply up your game
TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Has Been Hijacked By Foreigners & TV Houses - Emeka Ike by lagbaja(m):
Emeka should top winning and grow up. Industry dynamics have changed, and Nolly wood is just a victim. Pay TV subscription is now cheap and affordable by all. Why will I pay N200 to buy a film (possibly a mediocre one) when I can watch over a 100 with a monthly N1500 subscription on PayTV. In fact they should be grateful to the PayTVs for helping them to eliminate piracy.

This is possibly a goldmine for them in disguise and an opportunity to get better organised. Nollywood should learn from Itunes and the American Entertainment Industry. They wield some competitve powers if they can come together and forge a new direction. Going forward, we should expect to see a better Nollywood production not all the mushroom stuffs Emeka Ike is priding overe. More professionals will come on board knowing that they can sell their works and get credit for it.
