First Principle: ^^^ or is ur farm located in agoro farm?
Feed them 6% of their body weight. You can project their body weight from average weight. Ensure they are eating otherwise you are polluting the water. Another method is to spot feed.
BusinessRe: Watch Out For Scammers At Shoprite (ikeja) by lagbaja(m): 2:05pm On Dec 15, 2013
It happened to me too at Adeniran Ogunsanya shoprite, the cashier said the product which cost about N3k cannot be scanned and that I have to pay cash, I paid. I told my wife that I suspect the cashier was going to pocket the money but I had no proof. Shame on posters who supports this criminal act. What goes around comes around, someday you will fall victim of a scam in your business dealings and then you will know how it feels. This is one of the reasons why I have made up my mind not to employ Nigerians in my business despite being a Nigerian. Our value orientation is patetic.

PoliticsRe: How Is Electricity Supply After Final Take Over by lagbaja(m): 2:02pm On Nov 14, 2013
The poor power situation will be worse than previously experienced particularly for domestic users. Simple economic principles are at play. Scarce resources will be allocated to the highest bidder in order to make the highest return. The private investors are capitalists who must by all means make the highest possible returns on their investment. The allocation of electricity to different geographical area was done based on political considerations under PHCN. Now, it will be different. Priority will be given by the Gencos to the transmissson companies who are willing to pay higher whether officially or unofficlally. We all know that domestic rates are lower than commercial rates. It follows that industrial areas will be their priority for now.
BusinessRe: Western Union Money Transfer Now To Be Paid In Naira by lagbaja(m):
Good move. This will create healthy competition among banks and will hopefully flaten the rate between official and black market rates. Banks with better rates will curry most western union transactions.

In the same vein, RDAS will ensure transparency and accountability in dollarised transactions. The only problem I foresee is that transactions may take longer to consumate.
PoliticsRe: 'Nigeria Is 25' Song. Do You Remember It? by lagbaja(m): 2:11am On Oct 02, 2013
Nigeria is 25. The odds we did survived
Arise, salute the nation
Come Join the celebration
The people united will never fall
The sun will shine and the rain will fall
On our land, vast and mighty
Richly blessed by the almighty
Like bees in the hive, they work so hard to make the honey flow
But not without the use of the hoe
Arise, salute the nation, come join the celebration
Nigeria is 25, Nigeria is 25

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m):
miqos: i asked what is the advantage of flow through to the fishes
Flow Thru and recirculatory systems increases dissolved oxygen (DO), increases stocking density (the total weight of fishes in 1m3 of water), improves water quality, helps to control diseases and manages available space efficently, helps to ensure efficent utilization of feed (low wastages), helps to control water temperature and PH. By using recirculatory systems, you can imrpove your income by up to 50-100%
PoliticsRe: VIDEO: Lagos Transport Commissioner Embarrassed At Gani Memorial Event by lagbaja(m): 11:13am On Sep 07, 2013
I wonder why the organizers of the programee are personalizing the legacies of Gani Fawehimmi. Gani was a man of the people and not a man of some people as being depicted here. Just because Muiz Banire worked before at Gani Fawehinmi chambers, you decided to give him preferential treatment. Opeifa would not have been at the event if he was not invited. You confessed inviting BRF forgetting that he was Opeifa's boss and custodian of the policies Opeifa's implemented. It is obvious that these guys are doing the bidding of their pay master.

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m):
Estimate their total body weight, give them about 6% of their body weight daily. (For example if your juveniles weigh about 10g on the average, and you have 3000 of them, then their total body weight is 30000g or 30kg. 6% of 30kg is 1.8kg). Afterwards, reduce the percentages as prescribed in the following manual. You can split the total meal to 3 times daily. Feed more at noon when temperature and dissolved oxygen are higher.Temperature impacts on feed rate. The higher the temperature, the more they feed.

If you are using non floating feed, do spot feeding to avoid wastages. If the water is clean and well oxygenated, it will encourage them to feed well. Excess feed will polute your water, reduce dissolved oxygen (DO) level, increase toxic ammonia level, cause diseases and kill your fishes. Find more details about the feed percentages here

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m):
It is obvious that you are refering to natural flow through systems. Either the ones with cages in rivers or streams. it is not every farmer that has access to free flowing streams. It is also not logistically conveneint to farm far away from where you live. You are also subjected to many security risks. It is diffcult to control predators in flow through systems. Recirculatory system is urban friendly. I have seen it done in a small room. Also, Yield is not measured in sizes of individual fishes, It is measured in total biomass over a given period of time. Recirculatory systems support high biomass density than natural flow thru systems. It is also difficult to control diseases in flow through systems unlike in RAS.
AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m): 1:29pm On Aug 28, 2013
ab1x: I bet to disagree on that note. Flow through system is far better than any other system. Recirculatory system helps to manage water where water is not sufficient unlike flow through where there is constant water from time to time. It is a total mistake to conclude that a recirculatory system is better than a flow through system. It is less expensive to maintain perhaps it does not cost u a dine and ur fish will perform greatly.
A flow through system has to be recirculatoryto be ok unless u have a freely flowing stream to use. That was probably why the one Robonski reported failed.
AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m): 11:47am On Aug 28, 2013
ab1x: As good as the system is, it is still expensive in nature. N500 per day with gen amounts to N15000 ceteris paribus. A lot of small scale catfish farmer cannot afford it, so it is always advisable for them to change water every 3 days and pump water on their fish whenever there is light.
What you stand to gain in terms of yield and efficency (cost savings) far outweigh what it will cost you to run a continous recirculatory system. The evidences are there and are undisputable. Take a tour of durante and u will quit your line of argument. Asian aquaculture system relies heavily on water recirculation because it reduces labour costs. A good recirculatory system is capable of supporting 300kg of fish per 1000litres. the capacity of my Resun pump is 13000 litres which translates to about 3900 of 1kg fishes after about 4 months. The system helps to maintain lower feed conversion ratio. M the fishes grows faster, Mortality is also reduced drastically. You also reduce labour costs.

Moreover, it may not cost up to N15k when complemented with PHCN.for small farms,u can run the system for few hours if you have a water reservoir. The water reservoir will serves the system when you shut the power down to save costs.

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m):
ayoola190: The recirculating system u suggested is good but expensive to maintain
Recirculatory systems are not expensive to maintain at all. I speak from experience. In Nigeria, It is far cheaper than all other methods when you place them side by side. It offers high density biomass, as much as 300kg of fish in a 1000litre tank. continuous oxygenation, faster growth rate. All you need to keep it running is an " I better pass my neighbor " generator (which has a capacity of about 500watts) as a back up to your phcn source.

I use a resun 200watts pump with capacity to pump 13000litres per hour. I also use a 50watts uv fitted biofilter tank. I spend less than N500 daily running my system. however, if you run it with PHCN only, it costs about N150 per day. Ie 200watts * 24 hours= 2.4kwattshr. 1 kwattshr costs about N30 if u use a prepaid meter. You also don't need to buy drugs all the time as the drug is continuously recirculated. You don't need frequent water change because the water is continuously cleaned by the system. This is the secret behind the successes of Durante, the biggest fish farm in Nigeria.

AgricultureRe: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by lagbaja(m): 4:41pm On Aug 27, 2013
excelsiorfarm: good research, but what we have failed in many regard,no aerators, not connected to flowing stream & even it water change is weekly not regularly or hourly,as clearly said it is prone to disease outbreak & also primitive
It is a good method if well designed and managed. They should introduce a uv fitted bio filter tank and sedimentation device into the system It does not need an aerator as it is continuously oxygenated as it flows. Addition of Blagdon anti bacteria and antifungi will improve the performance. The blagdon treatment will continuously recirculate and keep the system healthy.

The fish farming method u posted is called a raceway or flow thorugh. It has some advantages over e contemporary pond method if well managed. What they need to do is to find way to deal with waste evacuation.

Read more about them on Wikipedia here:

anienge001: I really appreciate your inputs. U type as someone in that field. I am talking with my younger bros today.
Thank U so much!!

I wish our universities and polytechnics can teach these hands on skills to help with rate of unemployment.
I am an electronic/electrical engineer, recently, I have had to do some metal works and have understudied their operations. I wish our youths will begin to think differently rather than seeking cheap wealth that never exists. 80% of the posts on the business section is about get rich quick scams when they should be engaging their minds in constructive and innovative ways of creating wealth. Metal works and fabrication is very easy to learn so long as you have the willingness. It is also very rewarding.
BusinessRe: Cost Of Setting Up A Welding Workshop by lagbaja(m):
With 150k, u can get all the firist phase items as listed below. It is better to start with the basic machines. This will include.

First phase
1 welding machine
2 work bench ( this can be self fabricated)
3 vice ( small and large)
4 f clamp
5 grinding machine
6 generator
7 basic tools ( saw, hammer, chiesel, punch, bender,)

Second phase

6 manual cutting machine
7 fairly used drilling machin
8 inventory ( to inclde few common metals they will need fro their choise area f metal works)

Milling machines and lathe machine are not compulsory to have from the onset. Works that require their use can be outsourced.

Most of the listed items above are available as new and fairly used.

Most artisan metal workers do not have access to generators and patronises their colleagues who does. They pay as much as N4k on daily basis to share the use of generators. That is extra income.
BusinessRe: Cost Of Setting Up A Welding Workshop by lagbaja(m): 7:25am On Aug 26, 2013
Very lucrative business.Lots of metal construction works are in demand. You can make prefabricated gate, window burglary, handrails, you can also fabricate simple machines e.g wheel barrows, rakes, spades etc.take a tour of Orile and Owode markets in Lagos. With N150k, u can get all the listed items. Buy the red indian generator (about 10kva).
PoliticsRe: Lagos Labels Spare-Parts Dealers Security Threat by lagbaja(m): 8:36am On Aug 22, 2013
luvinhubby: Some of us do not read articles before commenting.
The person talking is the P/S in charge of MVAA, which is an agency that collects N25,000per dealer tax annualy from auto parts dealers in Lagos which ASPAMDA people have refused to pay insisting that they are tenants of federal govt., concessioning or not.
The issue is not about security, it is about not being able extort excess tax from the biggest auto parts market in Africa monopolised by Igbos.
When has tax collection become extortion. The advance development in Lagos is traceable to tax colleciton, if you earn in Lagos, why refuse to pay tax to the govermnet that provides the enabling environment. All the ammenities you see built around are from tax payers. Why should the igbo refuse to pay taxes.

All Lagos markets must be properly organized and owners should pay their taxes, that is what obtains in other organized climes. if you can't comply , go back to your village.
CelebritiesRe: Stella Damasus On 'Child Marriage' Bill! by lagbaja(m):
It is not to be contested that under age marriage should be abolished in our constitution, the fact that 60 senators out of 93 voted to remove the contensious clause from the constitution is commendable. The entire senate can therefore not be held responsible for their inability to expunge the 18 year clause from the constitution. My worry is that Stella has helped to confuse many Nigerians and had driven them away from the core issues.

What are the bigger implication of this inability to remove the clause.

1. Women of any age ( whether 6 or younger) will be eligible to vote on the claim that they are married and by implication have become an adult. This will be to the advantage of the northerners where underage marriages are prevalent. This is a disaster on the horizon and another hidden agenda at achieving bloated election figures in the north.

2. Furtherance to this, the maturity or "full age" claim can be extended to the husband of the deemed "full aged" underage married woman. Northern men are known to marry at very young ages. It therefore bodices that if the wife is deemed to be of full age, same can be said of the husband.

The law in question did not prescribe a marriageable age. What we should be asking for is the enforcement of the law that prescribes marriageable age in a Nigeria at 18 without parental consent and set a limit of marriageable age that requires parental consent as done in other climes e.g US.

Also voting rights should be restricted to actual age and not the "full age" inference
