Christianity Etc › Re: Is Speaking In Tongue Today As It Was In Act 2 Vs 2-12 by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 8:37pm On Mar 19, 2010
Mr Fisay, this facet of Christian Doctrine is one area i had planned to face squarely in the half of 2010 but since you brought it up, here goes

Speaking in tongues is a New Testament affair where a person speaks in a language that is unknown to him. This language is either the language of angels or other earthly languages (1 Cor. 13:1). It occurred in Acts 2 at Pentecost and also in the Corinthian church as is described in 1 Corinthians 14. This New Testament gift was given by the Holy Spirit to the Christian church and is for the purpose of the edification (teaching or building to maturity)of the Body of Christ as well as for glorifying the Lord.

There are 3 generally recognized types of tongue-speak
1: A personal prayer language that is not interpreted as noted in Romans 8:26 (Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.)
2: A language that is interpreted as this defines proper usage in the Christian congregation as Pastor Paul admonishes in the Book of Corinthians ("If you in a tongue utter speech that is not intelligible, how will any one know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air, But if I do not know the meaning of the languages, I shall be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me")
3: Evidence in some sort of missionary context i.e, a sign of deep connection with the Holy spirit (Holy Spirit Baptism) such that one edifies himself by speaking in tongues (Now this is a modern twist on the spiritual school of linguistics)

Now I sense your concern is whether there is a valid reasoning or logic or even scriptural truth to this phenomena in "Modern-day Christianity"

Let us take a look at the first tongue-speak incident at the Day of Pentecost (often ascribed to a Christian group called the Pentecostals or Evangelicals in today's scheme of things). The Apostles spoke in a strange language (Strange at first) until people recognized the language was from different nations and races, Today there is much debate as to the validity of speaking in tongues, especially since there is so much misuse of it in Christian circles. Some Christian churches teach that all the charismatic gifts (speaking in tongues, word of knowledge, prophecy, etc.) have ceased with the completion of the New Testament (1 Cor. 13:8-12). Others maintain that the charismatic gifts are still for the church today (1 Cor. 1:7).

I believe you can be in some deep state of psychosomatic consciousness that you cannot speak but simply mumble words due to the sheer weight or burden of your situation. You can also be at a high-level of spiritual ascendancy that the sheer shock of knowledge of this will put you in a state of vocal catalepsy such that your words will appear seemingly incoherent to an observer (unless of course he is in the same catatonic state as you).

But let us leave that to the theologians and psychiatrists to worry about. What is of concern here is that some churches wrongly maintain that you must speak in tongues in order to be saved. This is a grave mistake since not all people speak in tongues because not all people are gifted by the Holy Spirit this way.

1 Cor. 12:7-11,28-31, "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills, And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. "

So my dear Fisay, it is not a must that you must speak in tongues nor is it s pre-requisite to getting saved. When you see professional tongue-speakers getting down to the underground sound. You can rest assured that you have not been gifted the gift of spiritual speech grin nor interpretation as it seems sad

And you can be Baptized of the Holy Spirit and not utter a word in twaddling but you are fully anointed to go and do God's work grin

In closing Christians must pay strong heed to the words of the Lord's favorite apostle (Pastor Paul) in 1 Cor. 13:1-2,13

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing, But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

I think not, the heading is fine just the way it is. Blunt, down-to-earth, honest TRUTH

I don't mean to disparage the spiritual entity called God,but hey it could not be any worse than the Jews whom he wasted (continues wasting) soo much time, energy and effort to save and they relentlessly continue to disobey him. I'd be downright pissed off like an Arab with sand in the crack of his a.rs.e

Take a good look at our nation Nigeria, teeming with literally millions of Christian-dollars I mean Christians and we still manage to make zero impact on the state of SIN in this sinful generation of sinners. We are officially the 3rd largest Christian population in the world and the way Christians make it look as if God is a tourists on a one week visa and a fake passport.

Christians are doing sooo much worshiping and so little works,

A few questions for all Righteous, God-loving,Jesus-Freakin Christians.
1: Are you salting the earth
2: Is your faith supported by works (Good Works)
3: Are you bearing the right fruits
4: Does your faith stop at the edge of your nose or do you carry it to work and live it as a matter of example

If you answer yes to all these then Good for you.
If you answer no to even one, then you are like most Christians in Nigeria, Selective Christianity, only what works for what they want it to work for.

Hopes for a New Kind of Malaria Vaccine
http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1954177,00.html

Malaria was eradicated in the U.S. by 1951, so Americans can be forgiven for not giving the disease much thought. But the mosquito-borne scourge is responsible for the deaths of nearly a million children under age 5 each year — mostly in Africa — killing one child every 30 seconds. Half the world's population remains at risk — including travelers to affected countries.

But while initiatives to provide insecticide-treated bed nets and other control measures have cut malaria rates in half in some countries, the disease is adapting, and insecticide-resistant and treatment-resistant strains are increasingly problematic. And the worldwide recession is reducing the funding available to keep malaria-control initiatives going. As a new avenue of attack, the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI) — which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — on Friday, Jan. 15, announced a collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Sabin Vaccine Institute to create a whole new kind of malaria vaccine. Called a transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV), it is aimed not at protecting individuals from the disease but at preventing mosquitoes that carry it from spreading it. (See TIME's health and medicine covers.)

"I think it's very encouraging," says Dr. Lee Hall, chief of the Parasitology and International Programs branch of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). "It's a big endorsement by MVI for this general approach."

Traditional vaccines work by introducing a killed or weakened version of a disease into the body, where the immune system spots it and cranks out antibodies against it. Then, if a wild strain of the pathogen comes along later — one that has the power to sicken or kill — the body is ready for it. The new approach is different. Developed by Rhoel Dinglasan, an entomologist and biologist at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, it would instead work within the mosquito gut.

That's a tough one for some but the ones at my place have night-vision goggles and gas masks to avoid getting killed by insecticides. I hope these new-fangled vaccination mosquitoes also come with a mandate to kill the malaria-carrying ones
Politics › Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 1:08pm On Mar 19, 2010
I am simply astounded by the immaculate levels of stupidity demonstrated by the Nigerian Government.
Everyone knows Qaddafi for his peculiar eccentricity and his crude remarks. very close reminder of OBJ in his worst times. Yet our International diplomacy rules caused our Ambassador to be recalled!!  huh  What has that achieved exactly, you cut your knows to spite your face, All that needs to happen now is for some non-essential highly-placed public official of a foreign country to make negative remarks about Nigeria and we'll have all our ambassadors recalled, What level of international trade do we do with Libya, how many Libyans do business here. We have more Nigerians living in Libya than Libyans in Nigeria,

Trying to make a statement that will make sense in this case is to simply ignore Qaddafi's remarks and trivialize it to the rantings of a comedian (at Best) not Mr David Mark calling A President of a Sovereign Nation A Madman, Libya has more clout than Nigerian on the Seat of the UN.

We cannot continue to make international faux pas noting that our current political, ethnic, religious and economic crisis is the stuff drama-comedies are made of.

Why dignify Qaddafi's comments by making a statement  huh and some barely literate Marmaduke (madueke)  will pout that he has nearly 20yrs in foreign policy matters.

I cannot understand why we sit back and let clowns turn the whole country into a circus  angry

I feel inconsolably hurt by negative comments made here to disparage the person of Satan.

It has been well over 3000 years or more since this unfortunate rap.e of justice was executed on an ambitious entity who saw opportunity in a supposed democracy and took it. only to discover that Heaven is not a Democracy and God does not suffer opportunists lightly.

The Secret of Satan's success is very simple,  MAN in the Bible Satan has graced the world with his presence on very few, monumental moments that we can all remember (Eve in the Garden of Eden,Job Trials, Jesus Temptations and some sketchy details in the Book of Revelations) so how can this man of inconspicuous presence be so successful in the  downfall of Man.

Satan was only responsible for one thing which we all know, He introduced SIN into the World through Eve,  but we (especially Christians and Muslims) have perfected the art of Sin and turned it into a surgically precise science, in fact you can now buy SIN off the shelves of supermarkets for next to nothing. We have relegated a once-proud and ambitious spiritual entity into a shadow of his former self.

Do you think SATAN spoke into the ears of the Muslims that Massacred women and children in Jos lately? I doubt so. but i can tell you this Men of very Sinful and Evil nature organized the massacre and decided that God spoke to them (They are not even given credit to whom credit is due)

Please, Enough is Enough,  Stop Blaming Satan for the ills of this world, Blame your Sinful ars.es

Thank You.

In the end, you will have enough cash balance that you will never use with glo. then when you decide you are tired of taking their shyte. they still send you a bill at the end of the month, How did they get your browsing details when you have stopped using their service?/ shocked

2000 - Thousands killed in northern Nigeria as non-Muslims opposed to the introduction of Islamic sharia law fight Muslims who demand its implementation in the northern state of Kaduna.

Sept. 2001 - Christian-Muslim violence flares after Muslim prayers in Jos, with churches and mosques set on fire. According to a Sept. 2002 report by a panel set up by Plateau state government, at least 915 people were killed in the rioting.

Nov. 2002 - Nigeria decides to abandon the Miss World contest in Abuja. At least 215 people die in rioting in the northern city of Kaduna following a newspaper article suggesting the Prophet Mohammad would probably have married one of the Miss World beauty queens if he were alive today. May 2004 - Hundreds of people, mostly Muslim Fulanis, are killed by Christian Tarok militia in the central Nigerian town of Yelwa. Survivors say they buried 630 corpses. Police say hundreds were killed.

-- Muslim and Christian militants fight street battles later the same month in the northern city of Kano. Christian community leaders say 500-600 people, mostly Christians, were killed in the two days of rioting by Muslims.

Feb. 2006 - A week of rioting by Muslim and Christian mobs claims at least 157 lives. The violence begins in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, when a Muslim protest against Danish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad runs out of control. Revenge attacks follow in the south.

Nov. 2008 - Clashes between Muslim and Christian gangs triggered by a disputed local government chairmanship election kill at least 400 people in the central city of Jos.

Feb. 2009 - The governor of Bauchi state imposes a night curfew on Bauchi city on Feb. 22, a day after clashes kill at least 11 people. At least 28 people were seriously wounded and several houses, churches and mosques burnt down.

July 2009 - Boko Haram, which opposes Western education and demands the adoption of sharia in all of Nigeria, stages attacks in the northeastern city of Bauchi on July 26 after the arrest of some of its members. More than 50 people are killed and over 100 arrested, prompting the Bauchi state governor to impose a night curfew on the state capital.

-- Boko Haram, which means "Western education is sinful", threatens further attacks against security forces.

-- Police in Maiduguri, home of Boko Haram's leader Mohammed Yusuf, say security forces killed 90 sect members on July 27. In neighbouring Yobe state, police recover the bodies of 33 sect members after a gun battle near the town of Potiskum on July 29.

-- Yusuf is shot dead while in police detention in Maiduguri on July 30.

-- Red Cross and defence officials say that more than 700 people were killed during the five-day Boko Haram uprising.

Dec. 2009 - At least 40 people are killed in clashes between security forces and members of an Islamic sect armed with machetes in the northern city of Bauchi.

Jan. 2010 - Nearly 150 Nigerians die in two days of clashes between Muslim and Christian gangs in Jos, forcing police to impose a 24-hour curfew. The violence started after an argument between Muslim and Christian neighbours over rebuilding homes destroyed in the 2008 clashes.

That explains why the NNPC is currently in a dysfunctional state. Call me a tribalist or not, most Northerners do not value education and are less likely to possess the requisite qualification to lead the NNPC. If you are a Northerner, the only required qualification for being appointed to a position is that you are an Alhaji. The degree of dysfunction is directly proportional to the percentage of top management who are Northerners, so NNPC is 86% dysfunctional.
It would be easy to discount your comments as one borne out of anger, filled with irrational (rational) sentiments coming from a man who feels cheated of his birth-right. but then again, this is Nigeria, it is said that if you wish to eat cat-fish, you must be prepared for a slippery struggle from the river to the cooking pot. If the facts do not lie well with you as with many Southern Nigerians. it is normal. take your fight to the corridors of power abi you no appoint senators, governors, reps and Acting Presido (2nd Acting President in the entire history of the world).

If you have already decided that the equation does not favor your kin based on the qualifications and level of education attained, then take a good look at the educated south (in all their glory) then you will realize that too much Education makes for docile, lethargic, senile, greedy, cowardly and corrupt citizenry. abi what was all the educated south doing in the various sectors from EFCC, NDLEA, NPA, ARMY, POLICE, SSS, CUSTOMS etc, reading books!huh

My heart-felt sympathy for the dead, injured, lost and devastated. Muslim and Christian.

It is at times like this we should ask ourselves hard questions and not make obvious statements which border on either irrationality, anger or stupidity.

There have been worst religious and ethnic clashes since 1985 to yesterday and there have been reprisals and counter reprisals with each regime from Military to "Democrazy"

1: What has been the government's action plan to ensure that a forum is setup to understand core grievances and settle them in due course
2: Was there a report detailing the true nature of the friction between Jos-Muslim North and Jos-Christian South. is it religious, ethnic, political or economical.
3: Why is no one held responsible but hundreds more civilians are executed in broad daylight by military and police force without re-course to justice as provided for in our bastardized constitution.

We always forget to ask questions or do we just secretly accept what goes on and happily smile in our hearts and say "Serves them right"

We forget that all seating/unseated senators/reps governors/council chairmen and local councilors owe us the responsibility of governing this potentially great black nation but barely come up with 10% positive initiatives since the days of Shehu Shagari. (It has been downhill ever-since)

We sit back and welcome the corrupt elections where we get to laugh at people abuse each other, wonder at how well and mysterious assassinations are carried out and marvel at the wealthy as they bait us with cheap money to bribe our conscience,

Very simple but tedious affair. You have to take a 1yr course with the NIS at the National Stadium (full time)

The accreditation process is every two years I think this year is when FIFA Accreditation will hold but the NIS course is a pre-requisite. so you better register now.,.  if you can

This is the official process as FIFA stopped givign out Licenses, your local FA now has that responsibility.

There are fees involved, like Insurance money placed in Escrow just in case one of your players gets injured or is stuck in some foreign land etc
NFF must have a copy of the players contract with you too,

You can go to the NIS and ask for Dr. Alex Mana who is a course instructor and he will give you better details

I completely agree, Such myths and urban legends are bandied only in places were the people are ignorant, uneducated or unenlightened. There are so many reasons why people bandy such urban legends as you have said.
No myth or urban legends can make N50 notes appear in a box that you actually spend and it does not disappear.

Here is my personal story

In Awodi Ora Secondary School, AJ City Lagos.

I and four unnamed friends were party to a con that saw us losing N5k each. we arrived at the conclusion that we had been defrauded but nothing will change our minds that it was actually possible that for a fleeting moment, the spiritualist created money that we spent and could have spent even more had one of us not refuse to lick the oath kolanut.

We were broke youths in those times and a friend told us of a money-doubler that could change our fortunes.
1: We had to part with N1,000 which we did and he put it in a small box the size of a Chivita juicebox. he chanted something and opened up the box and gave us N5,000 each. you can imagine our delight. we went out and spent these monies with the fear that it will magically disappear.
2: The spiritualist further asked that if we could raise N10,000 each, we would get N50,000 after the ritual, N10k for secondary school students is easy, make fake requests for expensive text books, steal or borrow (all we did) and brought to the spiritualist.
3:He made us swear an oath to some money spirit that we cannot reveal the source of our wealth until after 5 years (heck who would want to reveal such a hit) so we sealed the oath by licking a piece of kolanut passing it on to each other. One friend refused but it did not stop the ritual anyway.
4: He got a chicken and killed it right before our eyes and rubbed the blood on all the monies we donated and tied it in a black nylon bag and asked us to return at night by 9.00PM at an unnamed location. (in an abandoned warehouse behind awodi ora estate)
5: We went there ahead of schedule and waited till 9.00 to forestall any chance of crockery incase he had any ideas.
6: He arrived at exactly 9.00PM and told us to clear the area as he prepared it for the spirits. at the end he rolled out a white piece of cloth on the grass and started chanting and I SWEAR the wind picked up (just like in the movies) and when it died down, he held the torch to the ground and We saw bundles and bundles and bundles of N50 notes wrapped in unmarked clips. i SWEAR!!! it could easily have been N1 million. We made for it quickly and as we fell over trying to grab as much as we could, the money vanished in our hands. ( i felt cold hard cash in my hands that night). He told us that the spirits were displeased because one of us did not lick the kolanut. That was how we lost our N10k and raised another N5k to at least get something, and that was when the spiritualist never showed up again, N15k gone into the wind. but i will never forget how the money appeared and how it disappear. I felt it, squeezed it but it shrunk and vanished right in my hands, we were definitely broke and frustrated the rest of the year. but one amongs us (The one who told us of the spiritualist was high on dough)  grin

What do you have to say to that, we were conned alright, but can the con go as far as making money appear and disappear right before your eyes

Sports › Re: Nigeria Fall In Latest Fifa Rankings by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 3:15pm On Mar 05, 2010
Rankings are relative to the overall performance of the pool used. so if everybody plays competitions regularly (we drop cos we don't). if they don't, we rise grin

Don't we always need some team to drop so we can look good wink

Christianity Etc › Re: Question For Christians by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 12:45pm On Mar 05, 2010
My people fail to understand why Christ died.

Let us start from the beginning

1: God is pre-existent so he creates heaven (his abode)
2: He is alone so he creates angels (some later become demons and mutiny against the empire)
3: He is mad so he kicks demons out of high heavens to low heavens and goes to ponder his deviant creations
4: He comes up with a solution and creates a planet called earth and goes to say "Let us create man in our own image" huh huh huh huh
5: So man is created without sin, pure as pure water and sinless as pastor chris.
6: Demons shout Ahhhhg! whaaaaaat! We cannot have this. so they go to war with God for trying to replace them in the heir achy of nature
7: God is up to the challenge and defeats satan but does not finish him off. instead he flings him down to earth where his sinless and pure creature adam resides (hello!) shocked
8: Satan cannot let such a sweet offer pass him by, a choice-enhanced being ready for the deception. so he goes in for the kill. Adam eats the apple and wham. sin takes hold and Satan is king of the earth.
9: God is not happy as there is no one to worship him after all his effort. so he destroys the earth with a massive flood. saving a handful of sinless to re-populate the world (smart guy) wink
10:Satan is unrelenting and at least 99% of the world falls to his sinful grasp again. but God has a plan. he selects one nation Israel to use for his experimental adventure into making sure his creation lasts long enough to make it to heaven and worship him as originally planned.
11: Alas! israel is the naughty sinful child and goes on to become a pain in his holy butt. for centuries on end.
12: He wipes them out again (saving a few) and gets a brand new idea , let us claim our right to the world as it was planned. Jesus my only begotten son will come back and make a way for willing sinners to come back to God. You see, Satan did not force man to sin against God, so God cannot force man to worship him (as he had tried unsuccessfully many a times).so here we are waitign for who will win the election of the century, the righteous or the satanous
