This is FYI to all Nairalanders who somehow think you have to commit a crime to get your ars.e in jail.
1: If you get into an argument and you decide against better judgment to come and make a statement at the police station, you will end up in a cell till the next morning
2: If you see a dead or dying body on the street. call 911 (if they don't answer-walk) cos you will end up in a cell as a suspected murderer
3: If you club very often avoid the Eko Hotel round about. the cops there will slip a bag of white stuff under your seats and threaten to take you to jail unless you cough up massive dough, they do not mind following you to your house to get the bribe to keep you out of jail

So far i have not heard anyone mention how this piece of "important information" is of benefit to entrepreneurs in the mobile arena.

While worthy of note it is not uncommon in historic and present times that a predominant, pervading and influential religious institution becomes vulnerable to unholy vices or is suspect to the kind of dubious, politically-motivated killings, corruption and other foul and unholy characteristics associated with degraded societies. It is in Christianity and Islam as well as other cults and faiths across the centuries,

The singular concept protecting or shielding these decidedly evil events is the fact that God's divine inspiration either through the Bible or Koran is often placed ahead the crimes committed by his most "devout" followers

Contrary to what some posters assume. I am biased to religion (in general), however that is not the focus here.

The point is if the Sharia Court can put their instructions as law and actually execute it to the point of it becoming legally binding on the Internet group and its discussants, then Nairaland will become a veritable target as well. (issues that have far-reaching effects and sensitive themes than Sharia has been discussed here without incident) is that about to change?

But let us not speculate, why not look at the theme of the discussions that was banned on facebook and twitter and try to raise it here on the religion section, or better yet, raise it in the Islam section and see how far that goes, it is my humble opinion that people who gather discuss openly intelligently are far more likely to be devout in their faith, than those who run their legal systems in contrast with the provisions of the National Constitution.

Let us take that step and discuss it, after-all it is a simple amputation for stealing nothing more than N1,000 (i suspect), but let some seating governor of a sharia state be indicted for stealing billions from the state treasury, all the religious scholars and imams go to sleep over it. why not cut off his legs and gonads grin

Christianity Etc › Nigeria Sharia Court Confirms Twitter Debate Ban by lagerwhenindoubt(op): 9:31am On Mar 31, 2010
@Seun, Nairaland is next with this Religious Section that is conflagration of mockery of Islam and Christianity (though Christians are blog lovers and leverage it well)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8595572.stm

An Islamic court in Nigeria has permanently banned a rights group from holding an internet debate about amputation as a form of punishment.

This follows a temporary order made last week by a court in northern Nigeria preventing Facebook and Twitter being used to discuss the issue.

The ban was initially sought by a pro-Sharia group which said internet sites would be used to mock Islamic law.

The Sharia code runs alongside secular law in 12 of Nigeria's 36 states.

In 2000, Malam Buba Bello Jangebe was the first person in Nigeria to have an amputation carried out under Islamic law after being found guilty of stealing a cow.

The Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria started a Twitter feed, blog and Facebook debate about it so "Nigerians could air their opinions on Sharia law as a whole".

But the Association of Muslim Brotherhood of Nigeria, a pro-Sharia group based in the northern city of Kaduna, argued that the forums would mock the Sharia system.

The court agreed and issued a temporary ban on the internet discussions last week.

Tuesday's ruling makes the ban permanent.

Yes,  only in Nigeria  grin some interesting comparisons

In 2002 It cost Korea $265 million dollars to build a 66,422 capacity stadium for the 2001 Korea/Japan World Cup. in Naira terms that is N33,140,900,000 (Thirty-three Billion One Hundred and Forty Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira using forex rates in 2002).
if we were to use 2003 dollar xchange rates it would amount to N34,317,500,000 (Thirty-four Billion
Three Hundred and Seventeen Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira)

In 2003 it cost Nigeria $360 million dollars to build a 60,491 capacity stadium for the common-wealth games
that is approximately N45,025,200,000 (Forty-five Billion and Twenty-five Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira using $ Forex rate in 2003)

Six years later in 2009 South African Constructs a 90,000 capacity stadium
for the 2010 World Cup at the cost of $440 million dollars approx N55,030,800,000 (Fifty-five Billion and Thirty Million Eight Hundred Thousand Naira using $ Forex rate in 2003)

Our Chinese-born NigComSat-1 (RIP) costs $340 million dollars as well grin

So why is a N64 billion naira ($494,208,000 in 2003) causing so much anger among our people, we have kept quite this long, why are we complaining. This is one of the fruits of a nascent (finally found a place for that word) democracy Only in Nigeria  grin

I posted on this same issue some days back and i am hell-bent on making sure Christian-Deception is stamped out of society.

What you have said (all of it) is Truth-Embellished angry and because truth needs no make-up or accessories. I shall make the post here once more.

Stop spreading scriptural deception because anything worse than a sinner is a lying christian.

Mr Fisay, this facet of Christian Doctrine is one area i had planned to face squarely in the half of 2010 but since you brought it up, here goes

Speaking in tongues is a New Testament affair where a person speaks in a language that is unknown to him. This language is either the language of angels or other earthly languages (1 Cor. 13:1). It occurred in Acts 2 at Pentecost and also in the Corinthian church as is described in 1 Corinthians 14. This New Testament gift was given by the Holy Spirit to the Christian church and is for the purpose of the edification (teaching or building to maturity)of the Body of Christ as well as for glorifying the Lord.

There are 3 generally recognized types of tongue-speak
1: A personal prayer language that is not interpreted as noted in Romans 8:26 (Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.)
2: A language that is interpreted as this defines proper usage in the Christian congregation as Pastor Paul admonishes in the Book of Corinthians ("If you in a tongue utter speech that is not intelligible, how will any one know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air, But if I do not know the meaning of the languages, I shall be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me")
3: Evidence in some sort of missionary context i.e, a sign of deep connection with the Holy spirit (Holy Spirit Baptism) such that one edifies himself by speaking in tongues (Now this is a modern twist on the spiritual school of linguistics)

Now I sense your concern is whether there is a valid reasoning or logic or even scriptural truth to this phenomena in "Modern-day Christianity"

Let us take a look at the first tongue-speak incident at the Day of Pentecost (often ascribed to a Christian group called the Pentecostals or Evangelicals in today's scheme of things). The Apostles spoke in a strange language (Strange at first) until people recognized the language was from different nations and races, Today there is much debate as to the validity of speaking in tongues, especially since there is so much misuse of it in Christian circles. Some Christian churches teach that all the charismatic gifts (speaking in tongues, word of knowledge, prophecy, etc.) have ceased with the completion of the New Testament (1 Cor. 13:8-12). Others maintain that the charismatic gifts are still for the church today (1 Cor. 1:7).

I believe you can be in some deep state of psychosomatic consciousness that you cannot speak but simply mumble words due to the sheer weight or burden of your situation. You can also be at a high-level of spiritual ascendancy that the sheer shock of knowledge of this will put you in a state of vocal catalepsy such that your words will appear seemingly incoherent to an observer (unless of course he is in the same catatonic state as you).

But let us leave that to the theologians and psychiatrists to worry about. What is of concern here is that some churches wrongly maintain that you must speak in tongues in order to be saved. This is a grave mistake since not all people speak in tongues because not all people are gifted by the Holy Spirit this way.

1 Cor. 12:7-11,28-31, "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills, And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. "

So my dear Fisay, it is not a must that you must speak in tongues nor is it s pre-requisite to getting saved. When you see professional tongue-speakers getting down to the underground sound. You can rest assured that you have not been gifted the gift of spiritual speech grin nor interpretation as it seems sad

And you can be Baptized of the Holy Spirit and not utter a word in twaddling but you are fully anointed to go and do God's work grin

In closing Christians must pay strong heed to the words of the Lord's favorite apostle (Pastor Paul) in 1 Cor. 13:1-2,13

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing, But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
@ Poster, it is a great write up.
I wish to state it here that some men NAG too not only women. MY partner is a very tidy and neat man and i mean tidy. Whenever I visit(we are getting married in a month's time), i try to tidy and sweep up the house but it can never be done perfectly. Woe betide me if i move anytin 1 centimeter away fromm where he usually keeps it. He will talk and talk and talk about it- is that not called NAGGING.
But i thank God for marriage classes that has taught us to accomodate and try to mould our partners in a subtle way. He is changing.

I also have cause to believe that before a woman nags, there must be a reason for it. Have the men tried to make amends to things or situations that make their women nag. So my dear, it is a two way thing.

The "where are you" question is usually a valid one cos most men feel their partners don't have to know where they are all the time but they will wish to have the women's timetable to the minutes.

When women ask they only want to know where you are and if you are ok cos for Christ's sake they are answerable to your families if anytin happens. They are the ones that will be questioned first of all.
So men please learn to be free with your wives and communicate some more with them, it is to everybody's benefit especially that of your relationship.
You need to be very careful when you get married to this guy because what you have just mentioned is an obsessive/compulsive condition (not good). some people who have this condition are normal in other areas of their lives but when it comes to symmetry and neatness they will absolutely freak-out if one tiny detail is out of place. you will never find an i without a dot or a t that is not crossed, all their buttons are perfect and their shirts ironed without one crease . I know you love him well enough to want to get married to him, just learn the nuances of obsessive/compulsive behavior so you are not blind-sided (with a slap) one day you decide you want to re-decorate the house.

https://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Pix/pictures/2010/3/17/1268853647881/Glenn-Hoddle-001.jpg

Glenn Hoddle's decision to walk away from a near-£1m contract to manage Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup has sparked a corruption investigation. Nigerian police are seeking statements from Hoddle and the agent who represented him, Olatunji John Shittu.

The police will also talk to Lars Lagerback, the former Sweden coach who took the job, and executives from the Nigeria Football Federation and the national sports commission.

Hoddle is believed to have claimed to the Nigerian state authorities that he came under pressure to arrange a bung for one of his new employers. Hoddle's allegation is said to be that, having agreed a US$1m (£650,000) short-term deal last month, an official told him it would be announced as US$1.5m.

Hoddle, who has not responded to attempts by the Guardian to contact him on the matter, was informed he would have to return the £325,000 difference as a kickback.

The former England manager is said to have refused. Dr Bukola Saraki, a Nigerian state governor, says Hoddle approached him to report the incident before returning to the UK from Abuja. "When we met, Hoddle complained that he was asked to part with US$500,000 out of his US$1.5m [the contract fee to be paid] and that was the only way to do business in Nigeria," Saraki said.

An investigation by the Presidential Task Force for the 2010 World Cup found no wrongdoing. But now, according to its spokesman Femi Babafemi, Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a formal inquiry.
Now I know one Nairalander in particular who will accuse Glenn of coming up with this stupendous story (yes y know him too).

I leave the rest to you

We humans are the worse of the lot of Cosmic events, have you not noticed how God tends to mature with the maturity and experience of society.
In the old days, God was malevolent, rigid, and visited righteous damnation on whomsoever disobeyed him, A genocidal maniac (the flood) and Authoritarian to the core. To enhance his relevance among men, fantastic stories of cosmic battles between good and evil continue to be fought endlessly while adherents became prophets, preachers and followers. As society improved, God also became more democratic and sophisticated in his ways, cunningly offering up his ONLY son as the ultimate sacrifice to win a birth-right the he could easily have taken with force (as he did in the old days)

Now he has a syllabus of motivational and self-improvement books and a legion of loyal believers who continue to sustain the age-old story of the battle between Good and Evil, dude there is no battle, Satan will wait infinitely for the day he will be put in the lake of fire but seeing that he is already used to Hell and fire, I doubt it would do any harm.

The battle between Good and Evil is in the NATURE OF MAN. we are the sole originators of falsehood and truth, war and peace, heaven and hell, God and Satan and the sole purpose of this nature is very simple, CONTROL we fear a world without fixed rules and boundaries, so we create one for ourselves thereby limiting the very intellect designed to mock angels and satan.

It is rather unfortunate but that is the reality on ground and it is not about to change simply for the following reasons

1: Human Capital (Staff) is employed as an operational expense intended to run the company to enhance profits. The younger staff will run for  much longer (before marriage and kids and accompanying costs and headaches to the company) and is therefore value for money
2: When the company makes money, they pay bonuses, when they don't they still pay salaries without reflecting the fact that they made losses.
3: Younger, fresh-out from university have more energy, different motivation to work and need experience more than any other incentive (this is good for the company) Older ones are motivated mostly by money and need more security, work less hours (unless you are paying for overtime) and have wife and kids on Health Schemes that the company pays for.
4: Younger, detached staff can be re-deployed endlessly unlike their older counter-parts.

If you are a graduate over 25 and need tips on getting better jobs, you have to move your job search up a notch and also your qualifications.

Go for a Masters or MBA (I know, cash is a problem) but that is the only way, When you are done, seek for a low-paying internship with a very large company, they really love highly-qualified people for low pay for the short-term. that is where you build on your experience and if you are good, it could be a permanent -well paying job for you

Take heart, at the rate this country is going, we'll see fresh graduates at 35yrs old then we'll wonder what to do with them
