Well, you can. I did not go through the SU, tried to do it myself

In my own case, I followed the assistant lecturer's verbal advice and removed a part of my writeup. A friend who had a similar topic with me used what I removed and had a sexy A (I gave him an outline of what I was planning to write).

Sent them a mail pointing out that I was advised to remove some parts which would have helped me but "No evidence, I explain tire". They just told me the exams board would look into it blah blah. The board did not look into it or change their decision so I just let it go

Schools are different and yours may turn out in your favor. No harm in trying wink

Been waiting to share this, wanted to have my keys first.

So after exactly 2 years in the UK, I got a house on a mortgage, new build.

Process took 2 months from when I identified and decided on the building, could have taken less but I intentionally delayed it because I needed the next salary to complete the deposit and I applied for the mortgage like a month before the 2 years would actually complete.

I don't know how to write plenty, I'll just drop whatever information I think is useful so if you have any questions, ask.

You need like 2 years residence history to stand a chance of mortgage approval.

Mortgage Advisors play a role, one advisor said Barclays can only give me for 40yrs duration, another advisor gave me the same Barclays for 30yrs.

It's difficult to decide on 2 or 5 yrs fixed term so do your research, I went for 5 yrs but at a point, I was thinking of changing to 2 yrs but I guess we've passed that step now.

If you are planning on bringing in huge funds for the purchase, bring it well before hand to avoid plenty explanation, six months statement is usually required but sometimes, while you're explaining an inflow, you may be required to bring statements dating further back.

It's OK to negotiate rates, sometimes if the lender does not hear back from you on time, they will contact you and reduce the rate without you asking, perhaps they thought you have not responded because of the rate.

For new builds, beside the decision on whether to do 2 or 5 yrs and the choice of house, I don't think there are any special skills or knowledge required, advisors will be doing their thing and giving you update, solicitors will be doing their thing and giving updates, if they require any information they will reach out. Your own is to read and sign documents and ask questions as they arise.

While your income play a role in how much you can borrow, your outgoing play a role in your affordability. The lender complained about my outgoing and the mortgage advisor advised that I reduce my son's days in school to reduce the fees. So I just told them to remove the school fees entirely and explained that he will stay with his aunty, whether I implement that does not matter again. Other options will be to pay off can insurance for the year to reduce the monthly outgoing or pay part of the car loan to reduce the monthly payments.

If you haven't, start your moneybox journey, I got 4k free from moneybox. Me 2k, wife 2k.

If it's a new build, you can buy towards the time when most of the houses are sold, as the houses are getting sold, they begin to introduce discounts and cashback. I was lucky to buy the show home although the furnitures were removed, some other items like curtains and decor were left.

There are lots of schemes available especially for new builds including first home schemes and shared ownership, depending on your money, you can explore these. I didn't use any scheme because I could raise the deposit.

There's hardly a right time to start the process, just get an idea of the area and cost of the building you want, raise some money and approach a mortgage advisor and things will begin to unfold and become clear.

My appreciation goes to everyone who have contributed to mortgage issues on this thread, I learnt alot and the information gained were useful.
How much do you reckon is down payment for 2 bed?

Congratulations man

So, if I had some mental health breakdown during my course, or life happened and I didn't graduate with good grades, make them fling me away abi?

The truth is, the social media fools and useless tiktokers are part of why rules are changing. If u understand covert racism/discrimination, you will these countries do not want Nigeria. No government would be happy when you openly talk about the loopholes in their policies. A manager in health and social care told me their international recruitment's direct them that they shouldn’t accept applications from Nigeria and Zimbabwe but they can accept from Ghana, SA and those Asian countries like Philippines, he said he doesn’t understand why he has to reject good applicants because of that. They won’t come out to say we don’t want Nigerians or Zimbabweans nah but they filter applications.

As an avid student of (recent Nigerian History), your rhetoric is EXACTLY what the APC used to get to power in 2015. All these ‘Where’ questions you are asking, the APC asked them. And because of all the Where’s rhetoric, the APC got into power. The APC (in 2014) was talking about making $ = NGN. What they failed to do was to say the ‘HOW’.

That is the same thing You (and UK Labour & Cooperative Party) are doing. Whipping up rhetorics. Oya, tell us (the voters) how you will achieve it. The HOW is the key thing here. Plus, where will the money come from?

Missjekyll. HoW will you achieve these?

Railways are expensive yet crap: How will labour reduce the fare from Sheffield to Rotherham from £5.10 to £1.20?

The NHS is now rubbish: HOW will Labour un-rubbish it?

There are no bobbies on the beat: How will Labour bring bobbies on the beat? And where will the money for the bobbies salaries come from?

There are more food banks than macdonalds: How will Labour establish more macdonalds to outnumber the food banks?

Prisons are now full to the brim: how will Labour decongest them?

You see, you keep on banging about how the Tories are rubbish. Tell us how Labour will solve the problems.

Hmmm... In my first week in this country, I took a train to Rotherham from Sheffield and paid £5.6 in cash inside the train, on my way back I paid the same £5.6 in cash. The conductors were white, a lady to, and a guy fro. It was only me that day, I went to confirm our accomodation.

Following day, I packed my family and all my children inside train to Rotherham, got there as usual, met a white conductor outside the train and told him I'll be paying cash inside the train he said no problem. Lo and behold, the conductor I saw was a black man, he asked for tickets and I said I am paying cash. Next thing, this black man gave me a ticket of £100 for not buying a ticket before boarding the train... My protests and samples of receipts of previous journeys fell on deaf ears. I felt so embarrassed with my kids. That's how we do ourselves, over sabi na e dey kill some of us. Over do!!! He definitely came in as a migrant too! If na Lagos we dey, I for use something do am.

Any idea the number of immigrants who pay for ihs, NI and tax but hardly use the NHS?

How much does British people on universal credit all their lives contribute to the system?

The system seems to be in so much pressure when it comes to immigrants but Ukrainers came in the system accommodated them, the govt even pay families to take them in.

Average British citizen are so ignorant of their immigration rules and policies that is why politicians take advantage of that.
They will argue that their great grand parent have been paying tax for generations. So they deserve the credit. Well I don’t blame them. Until we build were we come from and make it attractive and economical viable. We will keep explaining tire tire

How can you claim no one is doing anyone a favour when the immigration numbers demonstrates people are coming in droves? If it was a 50/50 business deal like you say, shouldn’t direction be in both ways or fairly stable. I don’t just mean from Naija (India, China, Pakistan etc. are on the list). The truth is people will move from areas of economic hardship to areas with more opportunities…just like Osmosis. When you come and you start paying tax in the new system, were you not paying tax in the previous location? What did you get in return? If it’s not a fair deal, people would stop coming and enjoy their extra “money”.

That said, I think immigration should be sustainable, otherwise we overload the system and we get the same “unworkable” system some of us were running away from. When last have you visited a GP or house-hunted? There’s no doubt in my mind this “tiny-Island” is under a lot of pressure and it needs to be released somehow. I don’t like the uncertainty of the immigration laws (they should be fairly stable so people can plan and not be stranded), but how many countries are viable alternatives? Maybe Canada, Australia, USA…be things May even be changing in these countries as well. In terms of voting or making a change, not sure the immigrant vote/lobby is significant enough to move the needle.

Las las, everyone go Dey alright.

How I wish we could get our acts right as a country, doesn’t even have to be el dorado, just back to 2015 economic outlook and the influx from Nigerians won’t be as bad. God punish APC for forcing middle class Nigerians to flee their country!
Imagine middle class man age 45 selling cars and landed properties just to relocate for masters.

We need to talk to each other and do whatever we can to get Nigeria working. Enough of deceiving ourselves.

There’s a clear distinction between those who Japa to the US versus the UK. You would never see a financial analyst move to the US and settle as a care worker. They always go into their chosen field and they are a lot more ambitious. Nigerians get remote work from companies in the US, talk more of actually living there. And as for those who had zero experience in Nigeria, some just work part time as a healthcare assistant as a way to pay their way through nursing school. They have a go-getter mindset because all the people around them have that same mindset. You would never hear anyone who moved to the states say being a care worker is better than getting a PSW Lol.

A topic was opened for debate for everyone owing to new rules and you just had to let this snide remark jump out. I have noticed this is also common among Nigerians in the UK Twitter (NIUK) community.

If people stop sharing their experiences, it's the same Nigerians like you who will say the Indians don't do this or that. The purpose of sharing on this platform is so people can have more information and know that some things are POSSIBLE and can be done, which is why I always preach upskilling and trying to do better (if circumstances allow it as everyone has different responsibilities).

Is it bad if Nigerians occupy top positions like the Indians?? Is it bad if we try to encourage each other to go for top positions? If you go interview and see 2 Nigerians on the panel at a top multinational, is it bad?? The purpose of sharing things is not to engage in a dick measuring contest, it's a way for people to know that things are not out of our reach if we aim higher and put in the work

Believe what you believe or not, people earn really, really well in this same UK we shout they're stingy with salaries. I lost a £44K offer (not a high salary but not bad per UK standards) last month to someone who was able to start immediately. It was a Security Analyst role at RCA and they were ready to offer sponsorship without thinking twice. Funny enough, the IT Manager was a Nigerian lady.
I just got back from a 2nd stage interview 1 hr ago and its a similar position, offering something similar

Spent about 1 hour on the phone with a friend of mine who got a job at one of the largest insurance companies in the world last week, total package, about £100,000 (Attached). Same guy still has an interview with Manchester United this week.

Another one got an offer with Lloyds Register; both of them aren't even 4 months old in the UK. These are not people I have heard of; they are close friends, so IT CAN BE DONE.

Again, It can be done smiley
Just to add:

Some of us come on here to reply or give our 2 cents on topical issues doesn't mean we don't have job or better things to do.

Some poeple are on this thread to judge and attack others. We need to do better as a people that's the way we can grow.
