Mckandre: In Canada, a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) are not the same, though they are similar. PGD is offered at Universities, while PG Cert is offered by colleges. Also Some PGD programs tends to have higher admission requirements than that of a PG Cert most especially in the aspect of grades. Both are aimed at providing further education and specialization after completing an undergraduate degree, but there are a few key differences: 1. Length of Study: A PGD typically lasts one to two years, while a PG Cert usually spans a shorter period, often less than a year. 2. Depth of Study: A PGD generally offers a more in-depth and comprehensive study compared to a PG Cert. It may include a project or a thesis, whereas a PG Cert is more about gaining specific skills and knowledge in a focused area. 3. Purpose: PGDs are often pursued by those looking to deepen their expertise in a specific field or pivot to a new area that may be related or unrelated to their undergraduate studies. PG Certs are usually aimed at specific skill enhancement or updating current knowledge to align with industry demands. Regarding visa approval, having a clear academic progression or a logical career pathway that aligns with your studies can indeed be beneficial. However, it is not typically a hindrance unless there are major discrepancies or inconsistencies in your application. Your move from Civil Engineering to Supply Chain and Operation Management can be justified in your statement of purpose by highlighting the relevance of management and operational skills in engineering projects, and your desire to broaden your professional scope. This explanation can show a thoughtful career progression plan, which can be advantageous for your visa application. Await additional response from others 3 Likes |

shinaxurdick: If you're going for a thesis based Masters (research based Masters) in Canada, all those things they asked you is compulsory most especially securing a supervisor before you apply. It is usually Mandatory by most Canadian Universities, and you can only do that via mailing (COLD MAILING) a Professor at a Canadian University you have aligning research interests with based on your Academic Background. Also note that, in most cases as mentioned on the Admission Requirements of Canadian Universities for a Masters degree (most especially Thesis-based Masters), you need to have a Minimum of 2nd Class Upper and good grades (GPA) in your Last two years in the University. For the application process check the Admission section of the school website and you would see information and guides on how to apply. MarksmanD: The business admin program you graduated from 10 years ago or there about shows that you have a long Study Gap. To show career progression as a Product designer or if you have been into related jobs for the past 5 to 10 years , it's will be ok and convincing for a Canadian Visa Officer if you go for Post-graduate certificate programs such as UX/User Experience, Interactive media/animation etc. at Canadian colleges But if there are Business Management components in your work experience, then you can go for a PostGraduate Certificate in a Business related program. |

freshStarz: The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in Canada is a significant factor for international students when choosing a school. Here are some reasons why international students may avoid schools in Canada that don't offer PGWP: 1. **Work Opportunities:** The PGWP allows international students to work in Canada after completing their studies. Institutions not offering PGWP is less attractive as students value the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience. 2. **Canadian Experience:** Many students see the PGWP as a pathway to gain Canadian work experience, which can be crucial for those considering applying for permanent residency or exploring long-term career opportunities in Canada. 3. **Post-Study Settlement:** PGWP facilitates the transition from studying to working and potentially obtaining permanent residency. Students often prefer institutions that support this process. 4. **Economic Considerations:** Having the ability to work in Canada post-graduation can help international students offset their living expenses and contribute to their financial well-being. 5. **Competitive Advantage:** Graduates with Canadian work experience have a competitive edge in the job market. Institutions offering PGWP are more appealing to students who prioritize gaining a foothold in the Canadian workforce. 6. **Long-Term Plans:** Students planning to stay in Canada long-term may be deterred from institutions that don't offer PGWP, as it aligns with their aspirations for settling in the country. 7. **Networking Opportunities:** Access to the Canadian job market during the PGWP period provides students with valuable networking opportunities, which can be crucial for career advancement. 8. **Enhanced Educational Experience:** Students may view PGWP as an extension of their educational experience, enabling them to apply their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting. In a nutshell, it's advisable for an international student to always go for a school that offers PGWP 3 Likes |

Cleversheva9: Hi Public Health is only available at Masters/PHD level in Canada, and an applicant need to have a minimum of 2.1 (with good GPA in their last two years in the University) and relevant degree e.g. Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science etc. Interestingly, someone who studied Computer science can still be able to study Public Health at MSC/PHD level cos Public Health has Computer Science oreiented research areas like : Health Informatics, Epidemiological modelling, Bioinformatics, Health Data Analytics, Digital Health Intervention etc. (NO KNOWLEDGE IS LOST). Due to her grade, she won't be able to do a Masters. First Option she can consider For Academic and Career Progression, with her Computer Science background, If she has some work experience that has to do with the Health sector and/or she can use Excel for Data Analytics or she knows how to use the likes of R, Python etc. for data analytics , she can go for a Post Graduate Certificate Program in HEALTH ANALYTICS. It has some connection with Public health/Epidemiology. There is a school in Ontario called CAMBRIAN COLLEGE, they have that program. She can explore it and look at the courses done in that program and see if it's something she can go for. Second option she can consider, if she has work experience in the health sector (career progression), the programs below can/might suffice: PG.

@ijeoma5555 You can't do a Masters in Canada with an HND. They require a Bachelor's degree for their Masters ... If you want to study in CANADA as an HND graduate, your only option is to apply for a POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE (PG.CERT) program at a Canadian college in a Program related to your HND degree or your work experience (even if your work experience is not related to your HND degree). |

Tricia14: Yes, it is possible to find fully funded Ph.D. programs in Agronomy in Canada. Many universities in Canada offer various forms of financial support, including scholarships, research assistantships, and fellowships for Ph.D. students. In Canada, like in the USA, supervisors often take students into their labs for fully funded Ph.D. positions. Professors and researchers may have research grants or projects that allocate funding for graduate students, covering tuition and providing a stipend for living expenses. To increase your chances of securing a fully funded position, it's essential to thoroughly research potential advisors and programs. Look for professors whose research aligns with your interests, and reach out to them to express your interest in their work (Cold Mailing). Additionally, explore Advertised Graduate Positions in Agronomy or related field, scholarship opportunities offered by the university, government agencies, or external organizations. Remember to check the specific requirements and application processes for each university and program you are interested in to ensure you meet their criteria. Chinaza93: Lolz... Well there are different angles to what you heard. Some say some of these things on YouTube videos and other social media platforms based on reasons best known to them (probably based on their own experience , their location in Canada etc.). Also the picture immigrants paint about Canada and abroad in general is not what it seems like. Finally, we can't use the outcry of some few people to generalize a particular situation. It varies based on different factors e.g. The Province an individual is located, Occupation in demand in that province and lots more. It's a case by case scenario. 1 Like 1 Share |
