leo22: This mindset is driven by poverty and gross ignorance. If Africa is this backward why are people from all races rushing in droves to the motherland? With the rate if insecurities you would think that whites and Asians would stay back but go to the airports, visit the Niger Delta etc and find them coming in everyday!
There is something they are coming for that myopic people like you cannot never see because you do not know that Africa is the most blessed place on earth! Only if you know how much wealth is in your land and you learn that Africa remains the best place to live and do business most of your type will always think that 'money can be found on the streets abroad' when most these countries are far less than African countries. These are solemn questions you need to ask yourself before condemning people who finally decide to leave; •Do African leaders have the political will to adequately extract these resources? • Are the proceeds from these riches equally distributed among the populace? •Have African leaders provided an enabling environment for foreign investors to extract these goldmines? •To extract these resources, you need adequate infrastructure and security, do most African countries provide it? So my bro, the issue is much more complicated than you think, and to be honest I don't fault Africans who legally decide to emmigrate. However,I hope you will do justice to my questions. |

Gerrard59: I saw your thread and my best response will be Botswana and Namibia depending on which Internet speed is faster. However, the reality is that most people will always seek jobs and there's nothing wrong with that. Even highly skilled Hong Kongers who accepted the UK's offer of citizenship and are currently in Britain are seeking jobs. Everyone cannot be an entrepreneur. Now, those stable African countries have ridiculously high unemployment rates. After Namibia is Nigeria on the unemployment ranking globally. Same for Botswana and even Ghana. There's a serious unemployment issue across Sub-Saharan Africa and tech isn't the only solution. So when folks are interested in those countries but ask for employment opportunities, they are right in doing so. When compared to Poland where jobs are readily available, it's not surprising why they omit African countries. Also, your aspect of entrepreneurship can be suited in those stable African countries not others who might require high end machinery, huge land for cultivation or sophisticated.
Regarding Ghana, I would rather recommend countries in Southern Africa because they are farther away from Nigeria. I say so because the day Nigeria will implode, which will happen very soon, the aftermath will be felt across West Africa. What happened in Afghanistan and Syria will child's play to what will occur in West Africa's budding Afghanistan. well, that may not necessarily be the case; Iraq has been plagued with political and social turmoil for more than a decade yet neighbouring Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are peaceful and safe. Additionally, only a fraction of the Iraqi refugees could be found in the aforementioned countries due to stringent border security. Besides, despite the multitudes of problems beseting Nigerian, it may not quickly disintegrate as you are predicting, highly unlikely. |

GeneralDae: Leadership is a problem, but we Nigerians are our biggest problems. There is a problem in our orientation and psyche. Many of us do not think about the future or the collective good, just immediate gratification. Also our society as a whole has lost it, this is why we keep on producing such leaders over and over again. We cannot turn the country around at once, but we must do our little part in our own way, we must dare to be different. There is problem especially in our values and how we view success and money. This is also the problem for instance with the corruption at the Lagos Airport and the Yahoo Yahoo thing to name few current examples.
Nigerians all over are increasingly called Nigerian princes, but of course the yahoo boys don't care, and we have people defending them, blaming it solely on poverty rather than on our greed as a society. I agree... |
While you may be right, I still believe it is our collective duty to create these jobs in Africa though. No one would do it for us, if we just run and completely forgot about Africa. Even if the likes of Poland were to be poor in the first place, the economic strength of the EU as well as the knowledgeable polish citizens would not leave her in absolute poverty like we have in Africa.I still think calling subsaharan Africa shithole is calling ourselves shitholes no matter how successful we may have become abroad.I encouragepeople to travel but to also look back for fresh investment opportunities in Africa
You have a valid point. However, to understand why most Nigerians are not happy , take a look at how the country is treating them - many feel neglected and ill-treated. ... These could explain why most Nigerians wilfully call the country names such as "shithole", "corn tree", "hell hole" and so on , truth is the leaders have not done well. |

SeaTrade: Nigeria is the only country in the world where a product will jump in price by 50% and sales of that product won't change.
It has made corporations greedy and they milk Nigerians with reckless abandon at the slightest opportunity.
Why can't people just boycott those greedy brands, move to cheaper ones and let it sink in the heads of this corporations that no brand is too big to fail, irrespective of product or distribution network.
As someone that has travelled a lot around Africa,I can boast that Nigeria is the only place where this happens and consumers will show vulnerability and dependency by simply continuing patronage and showing these people that "we don't have a choice". This is a very wrong message to pass, make una try wise up abeg.
Brand loyalty is a daft thing to do cos you would be taken advantage of by oligarchs. I drop my pen.
This needs to get to front page let's discuss more on this. I doubt if you are as wise as you are trying to make it seem. Before creating such thread have you thought for a moment why Nigerians behave that way? ..... It is not as black and white as you are trying to make it seem. |

DubaiLandLord: What kind of Anti Aircraft Gun is in the possession of the Bandits that can threaten GMB aircraft?
I find it so hard to believe this news.
Except they have a SAM, no anti aircraft gun can take down any of the presidential jets cause of how high they do fly. None of the planes at the presidential fleet has the capacity to fly higher than a bomber - and you know what? heavy anti aircraft guns up to 120 mm can easily brought them down. |

Do this and you'll NEVER be poor again This easier said than done. Besides, most Nigerians live in urban areas, with access to little if any farming space. Morever, due to inflation the prices of fertilizer and pesticides is through the roof. Not easy! |
