mgbeketoto:Don't mind them, with their shameless lies. They keep nauseatingly regurgitating the same 'reform in the distribution of fertilizer' as if that is the only avenues of corruption in the country. What about the massive corruption in the oil sector? Are we not all living witnesses to the way the corrupt-in-chief is shielding the Queen of Sleaze who has so far spent billions on private jets? What about all the corrupt elite from all over the country that are now being pardoned and politically rehabilitated, with some of them even being reappointed into key positions, all for the clueless desperado to get re-elected? As you rightly pointed out, does anybody now even hear of the EFCC? Why was Nuhu Ribadu so popular, both locally and internally, and the EFCC under him was so dreaded by the corrupt elite during the OBJ's admin? How many Nigerians today can readily tell you the name of the current EFCC chairman? And which politician would even be afraid of the EFCC under Jonathan, when they all know that they can be as corrupt as they like, and get away with everything, as long as they subscribe to his re-election agenda? |
Horus:I pity this young guy and his naivety, and feel insulted by the Thai investigating officer's remarks, that "Nigerians are bringing shame on Africa" and "Nigerians are the curse of Africa". OMG! And the Thai officer's specific remarks on the Igbos should provide some food for thought to the Igbo leadership at home and in diaspora. After the officer called Nigerians 'the curse of Africa', he asks rhetorically " - and from Nigeria, who is the biggest curse? Igbo people, because they are selfish, they are stubborn and they lie so well --". And he even reminds the young Igbo guy that " - -many stupid igbos they sit where you are sitting and they lie, and they lie, and they lie and they end up in prison --" |
Descartes: cheruv: tit: ozoigbondu:I know you guys are just having fun here, but you need to avoid dragging it too far in a way that would unwittingly spoil whatever slim chances the Igbo reps candidates might have. The two candidates might be highly qualified, but in the ethno-political realities of Nigeria, I cannot see them standing any reasonably good chance of emerging as elected reps from Lagos. |
Olaolufred:Yes, it's too late for him to change his leadership style or personal character drastically at this stage. For instance, there is no way he can turn against the corrupt elite at this stage he believes he needs each one of them even more, in orde to help him win the election in their states. Hence, you can only see him embracing them, pardoning them, inviting them, reappointing them all in his desperate bid to get re-elected. GEJ may be meek, amiable and humble but he is RUTHLESSLY SELF-CENTRED too, as we all see him being more committed, more passionate and focused in his re-election bid than in his handling of anything else, including the national security. |
toludadon:It's now clear to everybody that the 15 years of PDP's misrule has benefited only the kleptomaniac elite (from all the regions and ethnic groups), with some of them becoming super-billionaires. But as the ordinary Nigerians so are eager to see the back of this clueless and clownish administration, the selfish elite who are benefiting massively from this corruption-tolerant government would do everything within their powers to thwart our common desire for a change come 2015. To the cabal and their shameless armies of cronies, minions and hangers-on, the GEJ govt might be 'the best ever' govt, but to the common people life is far worse under this govt, as more and more people sink deeper in the abyss of excruciating poverty that deprives them and their family of their basic humanity and dignity. One does not need to be a Prof. of sociology to know that the nature, frequency and gravity of some of the domestic and other violent crimes that today characterize the life of the ordinary Nigerians mainly owe their roots to poverty, helplessness and hopelessness that send more and more people to the brink of depression and mental breakdowns. It is heart-wrenching to read stories these days of Nigerians being killed by their neighbours, friends, and even parents, brothers/sisters and relatives, in a dispute over something worth LESS THAN $500! We even read on this forum how some young people were killed by their parents for 'stealing' THE FOOD THEY ATE (not sold, for goodness sake!) from their home kitchen. And you would find this level of poverty in ALL the regions, and among all the ethnic groups! I always wonder how the thieving elite of Nigeria (from all the regions and religions) manage to sleep in the night, after CALLOUSLY LOOTING SO MUCH for themselves and their family at the expense of the ordinary Nigerians who are so poor and deprived that they could not even feed themselves and their families. It really takes a lot of heartlessness to do this! |
gregg2:The answer to your question in bold is NO. Buhari did not support the candidacy of Muhammad Abacha in the 2011, as a result of which he failed to get the nomination despite spending far more than what all the other candidates spent combined. The CPC candidate for that Kano election was a former military governor of Kaduna State, Col. Jafaru Isa (Rtd). In fact it was because of Buhari's reluctance to support Muhammad Abacha in 2011 that the latter and his supporters decamped to PDP, where I think they rightly belong! lol. |
duwdu:Thanks duwdu. |
makzeze:Every enlightened, honest and unbiased local and international observer of what's happening in Nigeria would reach the same conclusions as this seasoned and respected diplomat, and that is, GEJ does not show enough concern, talk less of the right leadership, in his handling of the terrorist attacks by BH. Even when such attacks claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent citizens of the country he is supposed to be leading, the impression he has been giving to Nigerians and the world at large is that of an unconcerned, cold-hearted, irresponsive or even irresponsible figure-head. No wonder he had to defend himself earlier this week in Kano, through his VP, that he (JEG) and his government were not behind the BH killings in the North! This rather strange defence by the president must have come after he had realized how more and more Northerners, both Muslims and Christians, are becoming more vocal in their exasperation at the government's inability to protect them against the brutalities of the BH savages; and their frustration is increasingly turning into suspicion that the GEJ's government, or at least some elements within it who harbour an undying pent-up desire for vengeance against the Northern Muslims and Christians alike (for some historical reasons), are using their positions in the government 'to allow the North to bleed too'. Although there might not be any truth in all such allegations, yet it is a fact that GEJ's ineptitude and lack of purposeful and committed leadership during, and in the aftermath of, the killings in the North, has clearly created a huge leadership vacuum and divided this country like never before, as a result of which the fertile ground was prepared for all these dangerous suspicions emanating from the North. |
Thank you IG. This is really helpful. However, I am sure you are aware that sometimes your genuine Indeed you would agree with me that more innocent Nigerians have died in the hands of your real policemen than in the hands of the fake ones, though I do not in any way here try to defend the sheer illegality of impersonating our national police force. |

Gbawe:Only an incurably prejudiced and biased mind could read a malice or offense in Buhari's passing reference to winning the civil war in that innocuous and innocent context of the remark. And to use that remark by Buhari as a reason why Igbos would not vote for him is not only a ridiculous and flimsy excuse, but it is also an insult to the enlightened among the Igbos. |
tunezvic:- and your forgot to add that one of them abhors corruption so much that he sent secret agents of the Nigerian government to track down, capture and repatriate HIS OWN KINSMAN (Umar Dikko) from the latter's hiding place in the UK, in order to make him face justice and account for some ALLEGATIONS of corruption against him; while the other pardoned, embraced and politically rehabilitated HIS KINSMAN (Alamieyeseigha) who was CONVICTED of massive corruption in a UK court, thereby putting our country to international ridicule and giving ammunition to those who stereotypically see corruption as part and parcel of our individual and national life. So even the most biased observer can tell who, between these two leaders, is THE BEST FRIEND AND PROTECTOR of the corrupt among the Nigerian elite, and who is their NIGHTMARE AND NEMESIS! |
Gabrielsylar:My take on this is as follows: 1. GEJ has the constitutional right to seek re-election; even if he had earlier signed an undertaking/agreement to the effect that he would not do so, nothing prevents him from changing his mind. 2. Considering the fact that Shagari and OBJ (a Hausa-Fulani and a Yoruba respectively) each got a chance from his party to seek re-election, the people of Niger Delta would justifiably feel 'cheated' if the first ever president from their oil-producing region were to be denied the same chance of seeking re-election. 3. But if Jonathan did enter into a sort of an internal agreement with his fellow PDP members, and it was on the basis of that agreement that OBJ and the PDP state governors unanimously supported him in 2011, then he is under moral obligation to respect that agreement. 4. Thus by choosing to exercise his constitutional right to re-contest in the 2015 election, JEG has abandoned his moral responsibility of respecting an agreement that he willingly signed with his PDP members. And in that case, OBJ and the state governors have every right to feel offended and betrayed by GEJ, as they staked their credibility to get the agreement signed in the first place. 5. Now that GEJ has declared for the 2014 elections, the debate has moved beyond whether he should contest or not, and whether he has breached a promise to serve for only one term or not; the debate now is whether he deserves to be elected for the second term or not, based on his competence and performance in the first term. 6. And in my honest assessment of his performance, he does NOT deserve the second term. He may be a good, decent and humble person but he clearly lacks the kind of leadership drive, passion and vision that the country needs at the moment. 7. My main problem with GEJ, apart from his cluelessness, is that he seems ready and willing to tolerate and embrace even the most corrupt and the most evil among the politicians from each state, if he perceives they can help him towards achieving his 2015 ambition of getting re-elected. So he may be pleasantly meek and humble, but ruthlessly self-centred as well!. |
Orikinla:In Nigeria, asking a question like this is akin to asking 'what is your tribe?', because each poster is almost certainly going to mention a politician from his/her tribe as his/her best Nigerian politician, just as the OP himself has done. You would hardly ever find a poster (especially from the major 3 ethnic groups) choosing a 'favourite politician' or role model from an ethnic group other than their own. For instance, you wouldn't find Obinna saying Awo is his hero, or Tunde saying Sardauna is his hero, or Musa calling Ojukwu his hero. We all find our political heroes from within the narrow confines of our respective ethnic groups, which is a shame! |

akinsadeez:Yes, the guy is pitiably funny. Now it must have dawned on everybody that the 15 years of PDP's misrule has benefited only the corrupt elite (from all the regions and ethnic groups), making some of them super-billionnaires, while the vast majority of the ordinary Nigerians (from all the regions and ethnic groups) sink deeper and deeper in the abyss of grinding poverty that is robbing them of their basic humanity and turning them into some else!. There was also this pathetic image of a woman wearing a PDP wrapper but at the same time the poor old woman was fetching water from a filthy stagnant source that even an animal that is well catered for would not be allowed to drink from!. Lesson: a corrupt and incompetent government does no good to anyone!. Instead, we ALL pay a heavy price for its incompetence and embezzlement of the resources that would have otherwise been harnessed and used for the benefits of all. |
Jerry24kay:All people of conscience, regardless of tribe, religion and region, would be so pained by the suffering and hardship ordinary Nigerian families are enduring and the way the corrupt elite are so callously unconcerned about it. |
Abagworo:I wish we could ALL be this reasonable and do the part in bold, for the sake of the present and future generations! |
Abagworo:Only last week, the Plateau state PDP expressed similar disappointment at the way GEJ's administration has failed to deliver in the state; he has not made any developmental impact in the state, despite the fact that the state voted overwhelmingly for him, just like the SS/SE: Jerry24kay:The 15 years of PDP's misrule has only benefited the thieving elite (from all the regions and ethnic groups), making some of them super-billionnaires, while the vast majority of the people (from all the regions and ethnic groups) languish in abject poverty. We have also seen the story and pictures last week of some hungry-looking people from GEJ's hometown (Otuoke) pitiably queuing and scrambling for a free bag of rice. There was also this pathetic image of a woman wearing a PDP wrapper but at the same time fetching water from a filthy stagnant source that even an animal that is well catered for would not be allowed to drink from!. Lesson: a corrupt and incompetent government does no good to anyone!. Instead, we ALL pay a heavy price for its incompetence and embezzlement of the resources that would have otherwise been harnessed and used for the benefits of all. |
OneNaira6:It is a shameful display of primordial clannishness and political immaturity the way some people from the SE/SS call Amaechi and Rochas 'traitors' simply because they exercise their democratic rights of associating with politicians from outside their region. It beats common sense for anyone to expect politicians to support only candidates from their region. If that were to be the case, how can JEG, or any candidate for that matter, ever be able to secure the mandatory 25% in the two thirds of the states? If Amaech and Rochas are 'traitors' in the eyes of the SS/SE people, simply because they do not support 'one of their own', then all the Northern governors, ministers and others who support GEJ against Buhari, must be 'traitors'. Governor Shema of Katsina, a die-hard supporter of GEJ, must be the greatest of those Northern 'traitors' for associating with an outsider (JEG) instead of supporting his kinsman (Buhari) who is from his home state of Katsina. |
99100:You are right, all these blood-thirty terrorist groups you mentioned commit all their atrocities and crimes against humanity in the name of Islam. However, you would be shocked to also find out the extent to which those Muslim terrorists are 'helped' in committing their terrorist crimes by non-Muslim players (who may be individuals, organizations or even governments) who have their own varying agendas for aiding and abetting such atrocities, and those agendas could be local or international. For instance, do you how the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and ISIS came into existence, who was financing and arming them at their inception, and why? |
BabaAlabi:OP, by opening this thread you have just confirmed what even the least discerning observers must have known by now, and this is the fact that those who hate to see Buhari emerge as the next present are ironically the most vocal in 'advising' and 'warning' the APC on who they should field as their presidential and vp candidates. In this post, you deceptively portray yourself as a great admirer of Fashola's performance, on the basis of which you pretend to be arguing for his nomination as the APC vp candidate. But do you think people would never find out a thread you opened in 2012 with the sole purpose of rubbishing the achievements of the same Fashola? Even the way you titled that thread shows you were just out to taunt the same Fashola you pretend to admire here. This what you wrote then: BabaAlabi: |
idumuose:That is the beauty of democracy! And that's why enlightened observers cringe in utter disgust at the shameful display of primordial clannishness and political immaturity by some people from the SE/SS who call Amaechi and Rochas 'traitors' because they support the 'outsiders' and 'enemies' from the North and the SW instead of supporting 'one of their own'!. These local Sokoto politicians you are celebrating here, are they not doing exactly what the Amaechis and the Rochas in the SE/SS are doing, i.e. simply exercising their political freedom not to support and associate with 'one of their own', but instead support an 'outsider' an 'enemy'.? |
size40:Yes, the 15 years of PDP's misrule has only benefited the thieving elite (from all the regions and ethnic groups), making some of them into super-billionnaires, while the vast majority of the people (from all the regions and ethnic groups) sink deeper and deeper into abject poverty. In addition to this lamentation from the Plateau PDP, two other recent stories also poignantly show that a corrupt and inept government benefits only a few thieving elite, and leaves the vast majority to wallow in deprivation and penury, reɡardless of their reɡions and tribes: 1. The story of some hungry and haggard people from GEJ's hometown (Otuoke) pitiably queuing and scrambling for a free bag of rice. 2. The pathetic image of a women wearing a PDP wrapper but at the same time fetching water from a filthy, mucky stagnant source that even an animal that is well catered for would not be allowed to drink from. |
Jerry24kay:Was this significant political story systematically killed by a pro-PDP NL mod in order to save PDP and GEJ from the resultant embarrassment and electoral implications? If that is the case, the mod who deviously prevented the story from seeing the light of the day should be ashamed of himself for the inglorious role he plays in stifling public debates that can inform and enlighten our people and help them make right political choices, which is a key element of a democracy. |
achinaboy:Maybe he is simply motivated by a genuine linguistic curiosity - to see how the national anthem would look/sound like when translated into our various native languages. That's why I obliged him and translated it in my own native language as above. |
edababa007:Yes, so disappointing! By the time Abati's tenure as the spokesperson of this grossly incompetent administration comes to an end, he may have accumulated A LOT in terms of monetary and other material benefits, much more than what he could have ever dreamed of achieving in his former newspaper's job. However, he may have completely lost ALL his personal credibility and respect by then, which is a pity! |
vivaciousvivi:You forgot to add the shameless way he unleashed his overzealous security operatives to harass decent and eminent women of #BringBackOurGirls. But when Tomporo warned him not to dare attend a well-advertized public function, he recoiled into his shell in a disgraceful show of cowardice and lack of leadership and courage. |
Acidosis:You guys are increasing making yourselves laughing stocks in your desperate efforts to find anything, just anything, that you think can stick against the person of Buhari and impugn his integrity. Here, you have only succeeded in desecrating the word fact , which is so sacrosanct, by presenting the wild allegations spewed by this hireling as 'facts'. Since we all know that the allocation of an oil well in Nigeria is not like the allocation of a bag of rice by a politician to an ordinary Northerner or Southerner, why didn't the apparently hired desperado simply publish all the documented facts about the 92 oil wells allegedly allocated by Buhari, so as to reveal the no, location, date of allocation of each well and the names of the alleged Northern beneficiaries of the 87 wells and those of the alleged Southern beneficiaries of the 5 wells? What you desperados do not seem to realize is that the more you persist in you futile efforts to dig up non-existent cases of personal corruption against Buhari, the more you would succeed in making some reasonable, enlightened and fair-minded undecided voters to consider voting for him!. |
GeneralShepherd:But the painful irony here is that the clueless president and his cohorts could not face a real hooligan when one dares them. Remember how Tompolo made the Coward-In-Chief to cancel an important official event that he was billed to attend last week? |
vedaxcool:And as if it was not only a few days a go the whole world witnessed how that Tomporo of a man scared the shit of him! |
