NO AMOUNT OF MONEY (not even in foreign currencies) can buy for ANY NIGERIAN POLITICIAN the kind of passionate widespread popular support Buhari enjoys today. And he is NOT this popular because he gives his supporters any financial or material inducements. They support him because they consider him to be THE LEAST corrupt among the Nigerian elite, even though he might have his weaknesses too. Thus the BIG LESSON you and other young Nigerians should learn from your dad's defeat is that HONESTY IS STILL THE BEST POLICY, AND IT EVENTUALLY PAYS! |
Two of the important factors that helped GEJ to win the 2011 presidential election were RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS (as being flagrantly promoted here) AND THE PREVALENT DESIRE TO HAVE A NON-NORTHERN PRESIDENT. Now, almost four years after we have a CHRISTIAN, NON-NORTHERN AND NON-HAUSA FULANI president, many of those who ACTUALLY VOTED for him in 2011 are today so disillusioned and disappointed with his performance that they regret ever voting for him. They see him as having simply squandered their massive goodwill for him and effectively dashed ALL THEIR HOPES for a better Nigeria. In the NE and the MB for instance, you would be shocked to find that many CHRISTIANS who voted for GEJ because of sheer RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS are now the MOST VOCAL CRITICS of his inept administration! They openly voice their shock and exasperation, just like their Muslim counterparts, at his shocking failure to even show any genuine concern and commitment to the security of their lives and properties, as they get slaughtered in their hundreds almost every day. In fact, both the Muslim and Christian northerners would tell whoever cares to listen to them that THEY HAVE NEVER HAD IT SO BAD, as an estimated 3 millions of them are now reported to have been displaced as a result of the BH insurgency that started like a small fire but 'was deliberately allowed', as they suspect, to rage and consume the entire North! Yet the RUTHLESSLY SELF-CENTRED president who hardly ever gives a damn about the daily massacres of Northerners, Muslims and Christians, is always seen displaying so much depth, commitment, passion and focus in dealing with ANYTHING that has to do with his self-centred re-election bid; they would see him promptly and effectively mobilizing ALL GOVERNMENT RESOURCES and SECURITY PERSONNEL either to ensure his smooth campaigns or to scuttle the campaigns of his opponents! So FFK and all other shameless and morally bankrupt elite who still think they can use our RELIGIOUS DIVISION this time around to garner votes for the re-election of THE CLUELESS but SELFISH slowpoke would really be in for A BIG SHOCK! Even in the SS/SE, this time around there will NOT be as much voting on religious sentiments as in 2011, simply because NIGERIANS are WISER today; we can all see that ONLY THE CORRUPT ELITE like FFK benefit from the woeful failure and incompetence of GEJ, as he is always ready to pardon them and even allow them to loot more, in return for their support for his self-centred re-election bid. |
OP, ALL what you have come up so far has been tried in the past 5 years, but UNFORTUNATELY FOR YOU GUYS they did NOTHING to stop Buhari from becoming even MORE POPULAR in the SW, than he ever was. So you definitely need to try MUCH HARDER to come up with something NEWER, MUCH BIGGER AND MUCH NASTIER than all this over-rehashed stories if you really want to stand EVEN A SLIM CHANCE of stopping the people of the SW region from overwhelmingly voting for him in 2015.! Those of you who read history should know THE SHEER FUTILITY of your desperate attempts to stop a PEOPLE'S GENUINE DESIRE for a change. It is like trying to use your hands to stop A POWERFUL STORM that advances towards you!. The message that you need to start drumming in the thick head of your clueless master is this: THE SAME STRONG DESIRE FOR CHANGE that helped him to be so overwhelmingly elected in 2011, is what is going to SWEEP HIM ASIDE in 2015, along with all the morally bankrupt, corrupt and heartless cabal that he has been protecting, instead of protecting the interests of the ordinary Nigerians!. |
malele:They do read about all these increasingly common cases of police brutality, but the bitter truth is that 99% of the innocent victims of this kind of barbarity are ORDINARY NIGERIANS, hence the powers-that-be hardly ever GIVE A DAMN! They know that by the virtue of their HIGH POSITIONS, they are well protected from this common menace of falling victims to a bunch of drunkard and psychopathic low-ranking policemen on the street. |
PhockPhockMan:Some questions for you here: 1. Hasn't the Clueless-In-Chief set up a committee to investigate the post-election riots of 2011? 2. Did he not promise to make the findings of the committee public and deal with ANYONE found to have a hand in those riots? 3. So if you think Buhari has a hand in the deaths of those young Nigerians, why can't you simply publish for us here the part of the report of the investigation where he is OFFICIALLY INDICTED? We all know you guys are MORE DESPERATE AND JITTERY NOW than ever before, following the emergence of Buhari as the APC candidate. But even then, you should have shown some DECENCY and RESPECT to the families of these young Nigerians who lost their lives in those unfortunate circumstances, by avoiding the temptation to use the deaths of their loved ones in this reprehensible and vile political propaganda. If I were a relative of any one of those young corpers, I would hate you and your cynical and despicable politicization of their deaths as much as I would hate the evil mobs who killed them in such cold blood!. |

Finally, in the words of our own president “The choice before Nigerians in the coming election is simple: A choice between going forward or going backwards Mr president, Nigerians showed you so much GOODWILL, SYMPATHY AND SUPPORT in 2011, hoping that your humble background would make you more inclined to work for the good of THE COMMON MAN than for the interests of the corrupt thieving elite, but ALAS! You proved them all WRONG!. Out of your desperate quest to remain in power, you wasted no time in exposing your true colour as a SELF-CENTRED desperado who is MORE THAN READY AND WILLING to embrace, pardon, rehabilitate and re-empower even THE DEVIL himself if you perceive some electoral gains in doing so. Thus, you CYNICALLY allowed the twin monsters of CORRUPTION and INSECURITY to destroy our beloved country before our very eyes, simply because you do not want to do anything that would offend the powerful elite that you naively believe they are the ones who would guarantee your re-election in their respective states, not the ordinary Nigerians. As you rightly say, Mr President, the CHOICE before Nigerians in the coming elections IS SIMPLE, but it is NOT as you wrongly see it; the choice we ORDINARY NIGERIANS, Christians and Muslims, see in the coming election is between allowing OUR COLLECTIVE DESTINY to remain in the hands of a DANGEROUS, CLUELESS, RECKLESS and SELF-CENTRED driver who DOES NOT SEEM TO GIVE A DAMN if the vehicle crushes or many of the passengers die, and trying to stop him at the next bus-stop to choose another driver. So, as you benefited from a prevalent desire for change in 2011, it is this same STRONG DESIRE FOR CHANGE that is going to sweep you aside in 2015, along with all the heartless, unpatriotic thieving cabal that you do so much to shield. |
mikeansy:We do not expect Buhari to FIX NIGERIA any time soon; all we want is for him to SAVE NIGERIA by taking over the steering wheel from the hands of a DANGEROUS, CLUELESS, RECKLESS driver who DOES NOT SEEM TO GIVE A DAMN if the vehicle crushes! |

GentleMimi:If there is anyone here who fails to show ANY REASONING CAPABILITY it is this INTELLECTUALLY LAZY AND MISCHIEVOUS mediocre of a reporter and, by extension, you who glorified his FALLACIOUS GIBBERISH. 1. What EVIDENCE does he have that the APC 'setup for Buhari', and how? 2. How EXACTLY did he manage to QUANTIFY that alleged 'setup' into a per centage of votes? 3. And how did he come about his conjured '70%' as being the per centage that Buhari should have got, as opposed to 80% or 60% for instance? 4. If the APC 'setup for Buhari' to get 70% and he got close to 60%, leaving barely 40% to the rest of the 3 contestants, on what LOGICAL GROUNDS could that be considered as 'shocking', or a sign of Buhari's weakness nationally? The last tweet by this shamelessly BIASED and PREJUDICED foreigner exposes him as a creepy hireling of some powerful anti-Buhari elements, who let him loose to create confusion at this critical moment. The anti-Buhari camp must have reasoned that since THEIR ARMY OF LOCAL HIRELINGS have so far FAILED in all their attempts to stop the tide of change that is sweeping the country, they needed to try to employ the services of a white guy, and whose name can be so deceptively associated with his former employers (CNN) in order to give some credibility to what ever he might say. Unfortunately for them, many Nigerians are WISE AND ENLIGHTENED ENOUGH to know that this cheaply employed CNN-discarded guy is a spent-force. And that even at his prime, he had always been an intellectually shallow and mediocre as an analyst; no wonder his short-lived journalistic career with CNN reached its dead-end so prematurely!. And no wonder that even AFTER finishing his official stringing in Nigeria, he chose to remain in the country hanging on his former acquaintances among officials of the Nigerian government and oil companies. He knows very well that a pathetic mediocre of a journalist like him has little or no chance of surviving in the highly competitive environment of his native country as a 'journalist'! |
emmasege:This religious card and the then prevalent desire for a non-Northern president were some of the main sentiments that helped GEJ win the election in 2011. But a lot of things have changed since then. For instance, many of those who voted GEJ in 2011 are so disillusioned and disappointed with his performance that they now see him as having simply squandered their massive goodwill for him and dashed their hope for a better Nigeria. And as for the Christians in the NE and MB, you would be shocked to find that many of them are now the most vocal critics of GEJ administration as they openly voice their shock and exasperation, like their Muslim counterparts, at the govt's astonishingly woeful failure to even show enough, genuine concern and commitment for the security of their lives and properties, as they get slaughtered in their hundreds almost every day. In fact both the Muslim and Christian northerners would tell whoever cares to listen to them that THEY HAVE NEVER HAD IT SO BAD, as an estimated 3 millions of them are reported to be displaced as a result of the BH insurgency that started like a small fire but 'was deliberately allowed', as they suspect, to rage and consume the entire North! So I believe even GEJ's strategists must have known by now that he is NOT going to be as massively voted by Christian voters PURELY ON RELIGIOUS SENTIMENTS as was the case in 2011. In fact even in the SS/SE, there is likely to be MUCH LESS focus on the religious sentiments than in 2011, a development that would surely benefit Buhari more than GEJ. |
bjdon:If you guys are smart enough, you should have known by now that YOU NEED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEWER, MUCH BIGGER AND NASTIER than all what you have unsuccessfully tried in the past, if you really want to stand EVEN A SLIM CHANCE of stopping the Nigerian masses from overwhelmingly voting for Buhari into Aso Rock come February 2015.! Isn't what happened today enough to convince you of the FUTILITY of your attempt to stop a PEOPLE'S GENUINE DESIRE for a change? Can anybody use bare hands to stop a powerful approaching storm? |
vigasimple:Unfortunately for you and other GEJ's supporters, the number of people in your 'we' here has drastically shrunk from what it was in 2011, when your clueless was lucky enough to ride on such popular yearning for a non-northern leader to become president. But what happened since then? He simply squandered all the massive goodwill he enjoyed and subverted all our hope for a better Nigeria, with his below-average performance. So you who continue to support him should know that most of the people that were hitherto in your 'we' above are today among those who are desperately yearning and praying for A CHANGE!. |
Mogidi:Unfortunately for you and other GEJ's supporters, the number of people that are actually in your 'we' at the moment has since shrunk to far lower than what it was in 2011, thanks to the below-average performance of the current occupant of Aso Rock. Most of the people that were hitherto in your 'we' are now among those who are desperately yearning and praying for A NEW OCCUPANT to take over Aso Rock!. |
hardywaltz:Yes, the Nigerian police give Nigerians many reasons to hate them, which is very unfortunate. Please as Nigerians, we owe these innocent victims of police brutality a moral duty to assist them within our limited powers, e.g. by keeping their tragic story very much alive in all the online discussion forums we visit, until it gets enough attention of the authorities and the wicked police culprits are punished accordingly. The Punch is doing an excellent job by giving this story maximum publicity, where so far hundreds of posters have voiced their outrage. The momentum needs to be maintained. Today it is this innocent couple that suffered such brutality in the hands of the some savages in the Nigerian police uniform, tomorrow it could be you or me, or someone dear to us. |
PapaBrowne:The part in bold is the grim reality that you would be faced with whenever you attempt to compare life in Nigeria and in those poor European countries and, to a large extent, some Asian countries like China, India, Malaysia and Thailand, and African countries. As you rightly observe, many Nigerians like yourself might be considered, on one on basis, as living a far better life than over 20% of people in those EU countries and over 50% of people in Asian countries. Yet those same people have far greater and freer ACCESS to modern public infrastructure and basic amenities such as good roads, hospitals, uninterrupted electricity, clean portable water and security than most Nigerians. I think even an average city dweller in an African country like S.Africa, Egypt, Cabon, Morocco, Tunisia, and others, enjoys far greater and better ACCESS to these public infrastructure and social amenities than an average middle class Nigerian. I have not been to any of these African cities but I do not think power generators, for instance, are as part of their daily life as they have become part of the daily life of an average city dweller in Nigeria, including an apparently well-to-do people like you. |
njideoby:Don't you think the reason here might simply be that people would feel more compelled, morally, to defend a late president who is not around to defend himself, than a living and serving president who, apart from being around to defend himself, also has a well-oiled PR machinery (and much more!) to defend him? |
Mr President, you need to be much tougher on your corrupt friends and political associates, even if they are your kinsmen and women! You may not believe it, but EVERYONE ELSE knows that corruption is the root cause of almost all our social ills as a nation. And you may not feel it, but millions of ordinary people all over the country are suffering and sinking deeper into the abyss of poverty. Secondly, sir, you need to show much more commitment to the protection of the lives and properties of Nigerians, wherever they are. This is the PRIMARY DUTY of the leader of any country. Because of your ineptitude, lack responsive leadership and demonstrable commitment to the security of lives and properties of the people of the NE, many people in that region, both Christians and Muslims, now openly voice all sorts of suspicion that your government, or at least some elements of it, are directly or indirectly aiding or abetting the mass killings in the NE. According to such WIDESPREAD allegations in the North, some SE elements of your government, who are ever vengeful about the roles of the Northern Muslims and Christians in the unfortunate civil war, are doing all they can to ensure that the 'North continues to bleed'. These vengeful elements are alleged to be in collaboration with some equally powerful ND elements in your government, who are alleged to be openly boasting that they are more than ready to destroy the North, or even the rest of the country, for your political survival!. I am sure, if you had been seen to be more genuinely concerned, and shown greater sense of responsibility as a leader towards saving the lives of the people in the NE from the evil BH, all these dangerous allegations that are being widely spread in the North would not have arisen. So please WAKE UP to your MORAL responsibility and show much more determination in tackling the TWIN EVIL of corruption and insecurity in our country. I am sure history would not be kind to you if you fail Nigerians in these two crucial areas. |
akpanoka:It is ABSURDLY FALLACIOUS to compare the two situations! 1. Is the Russian cargo plane owned and 'rented' out by the head of one of the two competing religions in the country? 2. Even if it were, are the suspected weapons intended to be brought into Russia? 3. Even if they were, is one particular region of Russia currently facing daily terrorist attacks like the NE part of Nigeria? 4. Eeven if it is, is the country as sharply and dangerously divided (almost equally) along 2 religious lines, where the followers of each faith is accusing members of the other of orchestrating the daily attacks against them? 5. If Russia were to be in the same situation as Nigeria, and the head of a religious body of one of the two faiths 'rents' out his private jet to be used to import arms into the country, do you think members of the other faith would simply understand and accept the official explanations that there is nothing sinister about the attempted importation of the weapons? |
walexyll:That is why I stated in a thread about the IG's tips on identifying the fake policemen that the real Nigerian policemen pose as much threat to the lives of ordinary Nigerians as the fake ones, which is very unfortunate. This is my post on that thread: LogicPower: |
PerfectFortune:Yes, if Atiku were to win the APC nomination (God forbid!), the people's desire for a change would be thwarted because Atiku is as corrupt as they come! |
Others by the Clueless-In-Chief himself: "If you steal $20 billion today, America will know". “I am not a lion; I am also not a general.” “(In America) if you treat somebody and something happens, you will be taken to court unlike here (in Nigeria) that medical doctors can kill people and nobody cares”. “They (Americans) don’t employ butchers, they employ doctors” |
Madam, by appointing you oil minister and allowing you so much powers to do and undo, and shielding you so openly from ALL possible investigations into the many allegations of corruption against you, JEG is NOT being seen by others as 'courageous'. On the contrary, it is by doing exactly the opposite, that is allowing you to be properly investigated, that he would have been seen as a leader of HIGH MORAL COURAGE! So please spare us this talk of 'courage', and simply keep enjoying your limitless official powers and influence, as well as guaranteed protection from ALL FORMS of investigation, as long as YOUR GOODLUCK lasts!. |
Obinoscopy:This might be a good excuse in this case, but there are countless examples of multiple threads being opened MINUTES between them! I am glad someone reminded Seun and the mods here that if it is a NL RULE that no two or more threads should be opened on the same subject, then they should be immediately deleting any additional thread that is opened redundantly in violation of that rule, otherwise it would be hypocritical of them to ban any poster for violating any other NL rule. |
okiezman:Since you are so inconsolably pained by Tinubu's influence in Lagos politics, why can't you just be MAN ENOUGH to join (or even lead) the actual struggle to 'wrestle' Lagos from him, instead of hiding in the peripheries, like the cowardly, confused, hateful and parroting clown you are, thinking that you could drum up enough sentiments against him for OTHERS to do the 'wrestling' of it from him? |
akinsadeez:The moment you begin to expand your horizons beyond what is happening in Nigeria, you would come to realize how fast Islam is spreading in the US and Europe!. According to one of the leading American networks (NBC), about 20,000 Americans convert to Islam every year, and equally large numbers are also found across Europe; and they did not have to speak Arabic before they converted. And as you can see from the website 'http://wechooseislam.', there are priests, scientists, politicians and all sorts of professionals among the Western Europeans who are converting to Islam, just as you find people of all these backgrounds also converting from Islam to Christianity in Asia and Middle East. Link to the NBC story: http://wechooseislam./2007/07/30/20000-new-converts-each-year-in-america-nbc-news/ |
Cyberbaze:In many of my recent posts, I lamented how Jonathan has unfortunately created for himself the image of a 'ruthlessly selfish' and 'callous' leader, even though he might be a good, decent and humble person. To many enlightened and impartial local and international observers, GEJ always appears so amazingly unconcerned, slow, indecisive and unimaginative when it comes to tackling the daily slaughter of hundreds of innocent Nigerians that he swore to protect; he also appears so unconcerned and so unwilling to take on the corrupt elite that are ruining the country and subjecting the ordinary Nigerians to more hardship and suffering. But when it comes to his re-election bid, he and his goons would appear so passionate, so committed, so pro-active, so calculating, so effective and so meticulous in their planning and execution of their 2014 agenda! You would see them ruthlessly bringing ALL THE RESOURCES at the disposal of the almighty FG in dealing with, and scheming against, any real and perceived obstacles that might stand on their 2014 ambition. That's why I have described GEJ as being ruthlessly 'selfish' and 'callous', and I am not surprised that OBJ also chose these two epithets, along with many others, to aptly describe him as such. |
fr3do:Your response to his point here seems fallacious; he used the word 'accommodating' to describe the attitude of Lagosians to non-indigenes living in the state, which according to the Cambridge Dictionary "describes a person who is eager or willing to help other people, for example by changing his or her plans: I'm sure she'll help you - she's always very accommodating". But in your response, you asked him whether the ingigenes of Lagos are "allocating land to Igbos for free". If the poster had wanted to claim that Lagosians give free land to Igbos or anyone for that matter, I think he would have used a word like generous, philanthropic, charitable or magnanimous to describe their attitude but he didn't! And this means he simply wanted to claim that they are ACCOMMODATING, no more, no less!. |
Clerverly:I believe history will not be kind to GEJ for his self-centred willingness to pardon the past, the present and even the future looters in this country if only they can reciprocate by helping him to win re-election. In fact Nigeria has NEVER seen a 'leader' who appears SO COMFORTABLE AND TOTALLY AT EASE in his OPEN ROMANCE WITH THE MOST NOTORIOUSLY CORRUPT AND EVIL ELEMENTS of the society!. |
lilprinze:Yes, it is similar to the blatant lies NOI shamelessly spews every now and then on how they have reduced poverty and unemployment in the country, while even a 5 year child, as you put it, knows that ordinary Nigerians ALL OVER THE COUNTRY are only getting poorer under this corrupt and incompetent admin. It's only the thieving elite that do not see the glaring failures of the GEJ. govt. |
zomby:Don't mind them, with their shameless lies. They keep nauseatingly regurgitating the same 'reform in the distribution of fertilizer' as if that is the only avenues of corruption in the country. What about the massive corruption in the oil sector, the Customs Service, etc? Are we not all living witnesses to the way the corrupt-in-chief is shielding the Queen of Sleaze who spent billions on private jets? What about all the corrupt elite from all over the country that are being pardoned and politically rehabilitated, with some of them even being reappointed into key positions, all for the clueless desperado to get re-elected? Where is the EFCC today? Why was Nuhu Ribadu so popular, both locally and internally, and the EFCC under him was so dreaded by the corrupt elite during the OBJ's admin, but Nigerians today hardly remember the name of the current EFCC chairman? And which politician would even be afraid of the EFCC under Jonathan, when they all know that they can be as corrupt as they like, and get away with everything, as long as they subscribe to his re-election agenda? |
Iroh88:Agreed. He was so obviously prejudiced against Nigerians, heaping his venomous stereotypical insults on us so unsparingly. |
