I saw a tvc interview where Soyinka said he had told Gowon after his release from prison that had places been traded, he (as commander in chief) would have put Gowon (a troublemaker) in jail earlier than Gowon put him (Soyinka) in jail. Pure class!

Soyinka also confirmed that Ojukwu told him in clear terms that he bore no grudge, and had never said anything untoward against Awolowo as he understood that each party had acted in the best interest of their own people.

These 2 clarifications suggests that these gladiators of old were far more mature, and pragmatic than the hot blooded youths of today who are mostly driven by weak sentiments and raw emotions.

I watched the interview too. It was Omatsaye's show on TVC. Soyinka said he had private discussions about the civil war with Gowon and Ojukwu separately, and they all agreed the war was unnecessary and pointless. He said Ojukwu wouldn't have gone to war if he knew better, reason why he never had a grudge with Awolowo who took the decisions he took (pre or during the war) for the interest of his own people

It's not surprising if you don't know Pastor Oyemade, it only tells us your mindset and the category of Christians you belong. Many other pastors use the world to influence their church and are more interested in building the biggest auditorium and also, shepherding a flock of congregation who see them as god. But Pastor Oyemade is interested in using the church to influence the world by inculcating church (Christian) values to building a people and a nation where people and business can thrive without compromising one's faith. This is seen in the type of program he does twice a year called the PLATFORM. If you are a Nigerian (especially a youth) and you have not partaken in this program before or watching it with interest, I'm sorry, you belong to the flock of god of men.

Making up 50.1% of the total 2.42 billion Christians in the whole world with presence in church-hostile countries like Iraq. Despite their subtle approach with evangelism and church expansion they continue to grow with various branches springing up in every nook and cranny of the society.

Approximately, three percentage of Iraq is Catholic and the church has been in Iraq for over 400 years.

You would never see a Catholic going on evangelism to convert other Christians into Catholicism? The few times I encountered catholic evangelists, they only preached about salvation and holiness then adviced me to take God seriously. They are mostly unconcerned about the church you attend or how you worship. 

I was brought up in a pentecostal home and had made contacts with other Christians who immediately begin to indulge me to worship with them. It begins with a lure to being compelled or emotionally blackmailed into worshipping in their church, a clear case of Christians converting christians. This is something that I noticed that Catholics don't do, and this brings us back to the mind boggling question, "how does the Catholic church have and maintain such a large population?

Below are some of the tactics they use to achieve this enviable feat.

~ So, it's often common seeing Catholics who had been emotionally blackmailed into worshipping with these pentecostals starting to build interest and eventually seeking freedom from Catholicism, most times after these pentecostals have cajoled, ridiculed, downplayed and smeared catholicism for her audience. 

Parents know this, Catholics know this so they take on to the catch-them-young mantra. Catholics train their children to fully understand and have full respect for the Church in what could easily be mistaken for indoctrination. These children grow up and adopt the same process which paves way for a generation of catholic faithfuls.

~ According to various sources like Wikipedia, the Catholic Church is said to be the only church that was founded by Jesus Christ. This very part has been a topic of heated argument among Christians of different denominations including mine but Catholics has a biblical verse to back this claim. In Mathew Chapter 16 verses 18-19, Jesus said to Peter:

You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it...

I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever you lose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

In my opinion, the above claim may be true because various people of different timbre and caliber attend this church and has not seen anything wrong in doing so. Some of these includes: Teachers, doctors, scientists, lawyers and a host of other reputable professional who are willed to critically think out of the box.

A quick look at the history of the Catholic Church and her leaders (Popes) shows that Peter the desciple whom Jesus said the above words to, was the first Pope of the church.

Popular preacher and evangelist Benny Hinn once told his congregants that "more people are healed in a Catholic church than in Pentecostal churches,” his reasons for that assertion was not clearly stated. But we could draw a clue from the till-death stance of most Catholics and how it is unlikely of them to change to another church.

Even in the face of numerous criticisms and alleged scandals, the Catholic church continues to maintain the largest population of christian faithfuls in the whole world.

Whether you choose to agree or not, this church is definitely doing something right even when it does not make sense to people who are not members of the church. As the popular Nigerian adage goes, "Who no go, no go know."

Point #4 (Verse 5) Paul preferred that all the church would rather prophesy than to speak in unknown tongues, because speaking with tongues is less than prophesying, except it is accompanied by interpretation so that the church may receive edifying.

Point #5 (Verse 6) Speaking with tongues to men does not profit them, only speaking to them by revelation, knowledge, prophesying, or by doctrine that can edify them.

Point #6 (Verse 7) Even lifeless objects, such as pipe or harp, which produce sound are more useful or intelligible than speaking tongues that do not give a distinction in the sounds made to the ears of men.

Point #7 (Verse A degree of certainty and distinctiveness of meaning is required in every sound given in the church to build up, equip and perfect the saints for their spiritual life's battles.

Point #8 (Verse 9) You can utter by the tongue words easy to be understood; and except you do so you would be speaking into the air. Mark this term, "to speak into the air". It refers to the same exercise that is termed "to speak not unto men but to God", "to speak to yourself and to God". This is not a commendable exercise in the church gathering, where we come together to speak to one another, as well as to ourselves and God.

Point #9 (Verse 10) All the many kinds of tongues in the world are with signification or meanings. This is a clear evidence that Paul was not treating the voices or tongues of angels, as some would wish he was doing in this chapter.

Point #10 (Verse 11) Speaking in tongues to men who do not understand the tongues makes you a barbarian to them and them a barbarian to you.

Point #11 (Verse 12-13) The zeal for spiritual gifts is insufficient for the church gathering, except it seeks to excel in edifying the church. Therefore the person that speaks in an unknown tongue should pray that he may interpret.

Point #12 (Verse 14-17) When you pray in an unknown tongue in the church meeting, your spirit prays, but your understanding bears no fruit to the church; thus they will not be able to say "Amen" to what they do not understand, even though you do give thanks well in the language you employ. To solve this problem you have to make sure that your understanding bears fruit to the church while your spirit is praying to God.

Point #13 (Verse 18-19) Paul spoke with tongues more than all the Corinthians; thus it is clear that he was not rebuking them because he was unable to speak in tongues. Speaking in tongues more than them could either be quantitatively or qualitatively; whichever it was, Paul was discrete enough to rather speak five words that could be understood in the church, so that he might teach others also with his speech, than to employ ten thousand words in an unknown tongue that they would not understand.

Point #14 (Verse 20-22) Many Brethren are children in the understanding of this matter of tongues because they fail to understand that tongues are for a sign, not to believers, but to unbelievers; whereas, prophesying is not for the unbelievers, but for the believers. This point should shame those who push for tongues as a prayer language for believers.

Point #15 (Verse 23-25) If all the speakers in the church speak with tongues, and there are any unlearned persons, or unbelievers there, they will say that the congregation is full of mad men. But if every speaker prophesies or preaches the gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit, the unbeliever will be convicted and judged by all of them, through their preaching; and the secrets of the heart of the unsaved are thus made manifest by the plainness of the anointed preaching; so that he falls down on his face and worships God, and reports that God is in the church of a truth!

Point #16 (Verse 26) Every spiritual activity in the meetings of the saints should be done unto edifying of all.

Point #17 (Verse 27-28) Speaking in an unknown tongue in the church should be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let the person who intends to speak in tongues KEEP SILENCE in the church; and speak to himself, and to God. Speaking to himself and to God in the church should not be to the hearing of men otherwise he would be disobeying the instruction to keep silence. This is a clear prohibition of speaking unknown tongues in the church without interpretation.

Point #18 (Verse 29) The prophets are to speak by two or three, just like the speakers of unknown tongues, and the other is to judge the prophecy. This includes the interpretation of tongues, which is placed on equal rank with prophesying.

Point #19 (Verse 30-33, 40) Orderliness should be maintained in Christian meetings.

Point #20 (Verse 39-40) We should covet or desire strongly for the gift of prophesying, and not forbid to speak with tongues, provided it obeys the conditions already given in this chapter, in order to maintain orderliness and decency in the church gatherings.

In the fake miracle video in Pastor Chris' church, she claimed her arm bone was taken by witches, and the pastor while performing the 'miracle' claimed he had taken back the bone from the witches' coven. Why didn't she tell the church that she had an accident and her deformity wasn't from witches? Jesus Drank Alcohol. A Fact From The Bible


Jesus drank alcohol; so says the Holy Bible. But before you cast a stone at me, take your time to read and meditate on the scripture below:

For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon'. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners"'. But wisdom is proved right by her actions". Matthew 11:18-19

From the above, we see that Jesus was accused of being a glutton, a drunkard and a friend to sinners... Why? Simply because they saw him eating, drinking and chatting with sinners... But what exactly was he actually eating and drinking that made them to call him a glutton and a drunkard? The answer is in the names they called him...

A Glutton and A Drunkard

First, we have to know who a glutton is and who a drunkard is.

WHO IS A GLUTTON AND WHO IS A DRUNKARD?

* A glutton is a person who eats too much of food and

* A drunkard is a person who drinks too much of alcohol (not water)

TAKE NOTE OF THE KEYWORDS

Now, I want you to take note of the keywords used for each term:

* FOOD for GLUTTON,

* ALCOHOL for DRUNKARD

From the above, we see that before a man can be labeled a GLUTTON, he must have connections with FOOD. In the same way, for a man to be called a DRUNKARD, that man must have something to do with ALCOHOL (and not water, since a drunkard refers to a person who drinks alcohol).

PLEASE NOTE: I can't call you a drunkard simply because you drink water. I can only call you a drunkard if I see you drinking alcohol; whether little or no little. The fact that you drink alcohol is enough evidence for religious fellows to call you a drunkard. I hope you got that!

Mind you, those who called Jesus a drunkard were the Pharisees and the Sadducees, highly religious people.

The fact that they called Jesus a glutton shows that they saw him eating food. In the same way, they couldn't have called him a drunkard if they didn't see him drinking alcohol.

Note Again: the word drunkard does not refer to a person who drinks water or soft drinks. After all, Jesus turned water into wine ( John 2:1-11). The Greek word translated wine here is Oinos (fermented wine) and not flux (unfermented wine). Those who used to think that the wine here refers to a non-alcoholic wine have long been corrected. It is now clear that the original word used for wine in this context refers to fermented wine (alcohol)

NOW LET'S GET THE BASICS RIGHT

Is food a sin? Is it not when you eat too much of food that you become a glutton? In the same way, alcohol is not a sin. It is when you drink too much of alcohol that you become a drunkard. That is why it is said TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING IS BAD

The question now is, if Jesus did eat and drink as told in the Bible, was he really a glutton and a drunkard? That is, did he really eat too much of food and drink too much of alcohol?

NOW YOU MUST NOTE THIS

Jesus was a celebrity in his day and continues to be the biggest celebrity in our day. (John 12:12-13, 19, 20-22).

As a celeb, there's hardly a thing you ll do that 'll b kept private. Every little thing you do is exaggerated by both fans and foes. This was the exact situation Jesus found himself. People exaggerated his person, his teachings and his acts; and this they continue to do even to this very day. But let's not go there now. But you may want to read one of my articles on religion... Now back to the reasoning, If the personality of Jesus was actually exaggerated, calling him a glutton would actually imply that he was not really a glutton. It will only point to the fact that he did actually ate food in his sojourn on earth. And calling him a drunkard would imply that he was not really a drunkard; but actually, for a fact, he did drank alcoholic wine. This means, although Jesus drank alcohol, he didn't drink too much of alcohol to the extent of being a drunkard. And Although he eat food, he didn't eat too much of FOOD to have deserved the name a glutton. But because he was a famous person, anything he did was always on the news and foes were quick to exaggerate his issues just to dent his person.

Jesus, in one or more occasions, might have been spotted eating and drinking with some tax collectors/agberos in a bar, restaurant, or any other public place. That was why the people were bold enough to call him a drunkard and a glutton. That could as well, have been the very reason they called him a friend of sinners... And of course, we all know that he was indeed a friend of sinners. In case you don't know, the tax collectors in Jesus' day are the same agberos we know today in our garages and bus stations. Now look at these people, and answer this question... Are they godly or worldly? I leave you to answer that yourself. But i want you to know that such were the people Jesus had as friends... Even to the point of making some his disciples... E.g Matthew the apostle

When They Accused Jesus, What Was His Response?

Jesus, a righteous man, didn't deny the fact that he did eat and drink with sinners. But we all know that calling him a glutton and a drunkard is only an exaggeration by his foes to tarnish his image. Jesus however corrected their notion. He told his accusers that wisdom is justified by her actions. He went further to make them understand that it is not what goes into a man that defies the man, but what comes out.. ( Matthew 15:10-11)

Unfortunately, this is where the world is getting it wrong? People tend to be more religious in what they eat than in what they do. I call them religion fanatics! They preach against what you drink yet their character is not even as clean as what you think. And then i ask such people, which of these do you think is more important: The things you do or the food you eat? Peter the apostle actually thought it was the food we eat that matters but God was quick enough to correct his error in the book of Acts 10:9-16...

The same way, Jesus is correcting you today... Stop judging people by what they eat or drink... It is not what you consume that matters to your salvation, but what you do. Every man shall be judged, not according to the food he eats, but according to the things he does (Romans 2:6, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Rev.20:12).

To this end, my dearly beloved reader, I want you to know that alcohol in itself is not a sin the same way food isn't a sin in itself. The drinking of alcohol and the eating of food is not sin either. It is when you eat too much of food and you drink too much of alcohol that it becomes a sin... This is what makes you a glutton or a drunkard... And this is what the Bible warns against. For example, the bible says eating too much of honey is bad. (Proverbs 25:16,27). This doesn't mean the eating of honey is bad in itself. I hope you got that!

The point is, too much of everything is bad. Hence, We are admonished to be modest in everything we do...

Apostle Paul, who was one of the firsts to be called a Christian because of how closely he emulated the lifestyle of Christ told Timothy to stop drinking only water but drink little alcohol... (1Timothy 5:23)

Why?

*For the stomach sake... And for his frequent illnesses...*

Here, we see that alcohol is even medicinal and useful to the body just as food is to our body... But alcohol/food can be injurious to our health if consumed in excess... This is what scientists call abuse... And this is exactly what God frowns at... Thus, we are told to be modest in everything we do. TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING IS BAD...

HERE IS WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: If the drinking of alcohol were a sin, Paul wouldn't have encouraged Timothy to drink...

Above all, if the drinking of alcohol were a sin, Jesus the Messiah wouldn't have drunk with sinners even to the point of providing it for people at a party when the host ran out of wine.. (John 2:1-11)

And because too much of everything is bad, Paul the apostle advised Timothy to drink but little... Thus, in Ephesians 5:18, Paul explicitly discouraged the drinking of excess alcohol...

Why do you think migration can only happen when people move from Brazil to Western Africa and not the other way around? So you see, the Yorubas you see today in Brazil are the descendants of Yorubas in Western Nigeria.

I read an article where a Theologian who understands both Hebrew and French fluently, stated that, in both the Hebrew and French Bibles, the translation is, "guide us not to fall into temptation" but he felt the English translation is misinterpreted which says "lead us not into temptation." In the English Bible, it sounds as if God leads us into temptation which is not true. Only satan does that.
I think the Pope is not out of place to make changes to the English translation. He has not changed or added to the Bible, he only changed the translation to the correct one in the English version.
