A rebuttal is not futile. I agree that a rebuttal from her will not have as much effect as it should in saner climes. However, people make rebuttals all the time to correct misconceptions. Case in point, Lara husband and Iweala. The comrade governor has made damaging statements against NOI, but NOI has made well-orchestrated public rebuttals. Today, whenever the governor says something against NOI, many know he is just trying to be silly and loud-mouthed.

To address your point, many people castigated NOI after oshiomole's untrue allegations. If she had simply taken him to court, she would have won, and most people will still hold their prejudice. By challenging him in the public domain, she did her best to clear her good name and give people a chance to make informed decisions by themselves.

That is what I am recommending in this instance. She can also choose to make a public rebuttal in addition to pursuing a case. There is no law that says she should, but informal laws of reputation management maintain that you should make a public rebuttal when baseless accusations are made in the online domain.

I have freelanced as an Online Reputation Management specialist for individuals and small firms. I know what I am talking about.

The truth is simple. SR has already provided one side of story. One of the major reasons why the president traveled to the UK was for a medical checkup. Apparently, his doctors needed more time to take more tests and give him a clean bill of health. To not cause murmur and uproar for just staying back, the presidency was quick to tag it a vacation.

Why would they tell us the president is on vacation only after he has gotten to his vacation spot? With the myriad of problems in Nigeria, does it not make sense to tell us weeks beforehand. Even, in the US where presidents are used to having annual vacations, the populace know before hand. This is not change and since he says he is a man of integrity, he should be honest and upfront with Nigerians, not providing room of doubts and conspiracy theories.

It would be very difficult for the blogger to prove everything beyond all reasonable doubts or as you put it "furnish the court with such details should it". And you should know that even if he proves some, but does not prove everything, the court will still decide against him.

No where did I say that the woman should solely bear the burden of proof. I said she should make a public rebuttal, after which, she should charge the blogger to court. It is far easier for her to prove these allegations are false than for the blogger to prove that they are true.

Make a public rebuttal then charge the guy to court, what is so hard about that. If these allegations are as wild as you and her place them to be, then rebutting them should not be difficult.

If I type on some site that you are gay with a partner in PH. That is a wild allegation that you can easily rebuff by showing me your gf or wife and kids and such. After that, you can take me to court and I will appropriately lose the case.
