James4358:There's no serious side effects if you do. It's just there culture of making sure all the necessary things the family will get are gotten when they lost a female child. But they usually do this to those who cohabit their ladies without their blessings or tying the knot. Are you sure the girl was not impregnated by you and lost her life after an abortion? Or you weren't into an amorous relationship with her? Whatever you do, I trust those Efiks/Ibibio, their eyes are you now and you would soon be kidnapped to marry the corpse even against your will. |
JEWELofHELL:Hmmmm Good work. But if what I'm thinking is correct the bribe-offering dude selling the expired items isn't from their ethnic group and you see such a zeal to nail the idiot who's trying to poison their populace considering that both officers of different agencies keyed in well on this. I might do the same policing my territory. See why regional or state policing is better? Don't mind me guys just thinking out aloud... |
I quite disagree with Baba Oyedepo on this. And it's unfortunate the unnecessary hoopla from this hijab thing and the intentions of some divisive elements in using it to create disharmony among people who earlier enjoyed cordial relationship with each other. It's also unfortunate seeing the insults hurled at the Muslim population in Ilorin. Before we form our opinions let's first dissect the bone of contention in the whole saga. Primary and secondary schools in Nigeria are either classified as Federal government funded like the federal government colleges, State funded (this form a big chunk of the schools in Nigeria which made them 'Public schools' - and entrance isn't by common entrance exams like the federal colleges), the Private funded, usually refered as Private schools and the Religious or Theological schools. All schools in the realm of the federal and state funded irrespective of origin are termed Government and Public schools because the Government pays the teachers, non teaching staffs and as such manage them through the Teaching Commission or whichever name they chose to call such Commission. Promotion, welfare, pensions of the staff lies with the State. In such schools all are free to attend irrespective of creed or fate without fear of harassment from no-one even if the person is of minority group or religion. In the private schools they are more driven by profits, yet the state still have input in the form of government policies and regulations. But in a Theological school, the administering religious institution makes the law. And I believe no person of other religions will want something different in that school because it was purely built for religious purpose of that religion. And no muslim student who think of wearing hijab in a christian seminary nor would a christian not conform with the Muslim equivalent. If the schools in question in kwara state fall under the category of state funded as I described above the main originator of the whole problem should be tried for subjecting those female muslim students to some form of discrimination based on their religious beliefs in a public school. The noise are totally unnecessary cos they never seek for other female students of other faiths to wear hijab but themselves and are not violating the rights of non-hijab wearing students in anyway. In a true secular state, even the right of the minority or their beliefs are to be protected, even if they're not more than 5% of the population. The school could have responded with an acceptable design and color to match the uniform. And besides there might be an ulterior motives by those who started this noise afteral. It is high we stopped the divisive activities of all these religious bodies CAN, MURIC etc in our daily activities. They should go burn in hell for they cause more harm to our wellbeing than good. Their business thrive on fear, anxiety and acrimony. Going by the constitution: Section 38(1) of the Constitution makes provision for the citizen’s ‘freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.’ However, these rights are not absolute. The Constitution gives the state power to derogate from them through laws that ‘are reasonably justifiable in a democratic society.’ Specifically, Section 45(1) provides that ‘nothing shall invalidate any law that is reasonably justifiable in a democratic society in the interest of defence, public safety, public order, public morality or public health; or for the purpose of protecting the rights and freedoms of other persons.’ We should see ourselves for the goodness in each other first before the tribe, religion or origin of that person. May the Almighty God shame all the evil people in these country hiding under the banner of religion to exploit the people. |
Never4getU:They will be more effective when coming to the East cos the troop isn't divided by ideology or religion now. The entire security architecture is manned by people who share same affinities. And boko haram enjoys a high profile operational and intelligent network of isis, and the foot soldiers really don't care about themselves or lives in this world. It was a wrong move to be killing security personnel and carting away their arms by whoever started the madness in the East. The topographical terrain in the East is quite different from the northeast, and believe me it's a good turf for the Nigerian troops. Peace should return to the southeast, a more tactical approach that could yield fruitful and peaceful results should be employed. The troops will surely search for it's weapons. |
He may be correct somehow and no point twisting or getting angry over what the man said. Yes drug abuse cases may be very high in the SW and the victims may not necessarily be indigenous people of the region. Afteral it's a known fact that a big chunk of other Nigerian ethnic groups live in the SW. So the figure cum statistics quoted include many Nigerians of other extractions. All those aboki okada riders, agberos, cultists, criminals abusing different forms of drugs and others taking them for pleasure live in the SW majorly and so this is expected. So let the man be. We need someone to rid the region of the menace. |

SpecialAdviser:The Nigerian troops have done their bit. Had they shot those guys dead immediately same Nigerians who always know all at all time will still blame the soldiers for one thing or another. The soldiers usually get confused with shenanigans like these coming from Nigerians, and at most times in that state they react based on impulse. Blame the judicial system and the political class for not being able to award commensurate punishment to dangerous criminals and also allowing them to escape justice. The soldiers too are victims or the worst of it in this era of insecurity. For he is demoralized and disenchanted knowing that the dangerous man he's risking his precious life to fight might be on his way to abroad on scholarship tomorrow. For those always heaping insults on the soldiers, how many of them head in the direction of gunshots? So praise a man who is tasked to face the dangers for you. No-one is perfect. |
franchasng:And the same ibos are thronging enmasse to the same platform of the failed general? The narrative is funny. Let's just try to do the right thing whenever our conscience feels so. Tribalism and deep hate continue to eat deep into the hearts of our youths that they're seriously destroying every logical thinking capacities of our brains. May God save us all |
obynzo:Rewane was the next leader in line after the demise of Awo. He was of the Action Group, the mainstream political group of the Old West, which gave birth to all the movements rulling in the SW including Lagos till date. And he was of the itsekiri ethnic, one of the yoruboid groups scattered across west africa. The same goes for Anthony Enahoro who was from Edo state. In most of their meetings they conversed in Yoruba. Rewane and Enahoro were revered by the yoruba leaders like Adesanya, Bola Ige, Ajasin despite being from the old west minority groups. Streets were named after them in the SW. Admiral Kanu joined based on ideals and by association, which he may have cultivated during his stewardship in Yorubaland. Action group became NADECO, AD, AC, ACN and a strong element of it formed APC. Pull that movement out of APC today and it will the yoruba appeal forever. Thanks. |
Edobabe20:It does no good to outrightly pass judgement on her based on these assumptions. She's taken a step in the right direction and with time she will drop some of those seemingly worldly things. The issue of dawah is multifaceted; you can attract people to ur religion with ur scholarly knowledge, good moral and outstanding conducts, ur beauty and elegance. Those who marvel at ur beauty may be attracted when they see a pretty person submitting to God. Allah knows best, and he's the best judge of our characters and conducts. |
flokii:That incident changed my mind as well. What if things were not really as we thought. |
GOVERNMENT2:Thank God they migrated enmasse to benin republic which is still part of Yorubaland. If not for the berlin partition of africa in 1884-5 the Yorubas will be together. For your information the 6th Aare ona kakanfo, Oyabi was from Ajase cotonou in present day benin republic. He even led an army to destroy the then bashorun Gaa at the behest of his monarch the Alaafin. So their exodus was still to part of their ancestral land. |
Crayfish09:You displayed more bigotry and arrogance than the person you're trying to correct. And also you made it seem the existence of the North depends on clinching onto power at all cost. You won't know how the other person feels until you've walked in his shoes. Maybe you don't know or just chose to ignore it there's a kind of lopsidedness in Nigeria that tilts toward the North seriously. One madness begets another. So what if the SW don't get the presidency? Is the life of an average northerner better than that of their peers from other parts of Nigeria cos a northerner is in power? These are just delusions and mirage. You guys can hit Tinubu however hard you think. My belief is strongly in the words of Allah that what He has given no-one nobody can give that person, and that which He has given to a particular person nobody can take it away. If you're a muslim you will know that verse and understand it's import. The entitlement spirit is corrupting the mindset of even the brightest minds in the North to the point of losing compassion for others or their sufferings. The Yorubas, Ibos, Ijaws, Efiks, Tivs, Idoma and others are people too with blood flowing through them. Every citizen of this country matters and that's how greatness can be achieved not by nepotism, favouritism and segregation. A man from the least populated tribes shouldn't be afraid to rise to his peak. And what's so special about the presidency if not that it's a tool of blackmail to hold a certain group in servitude by the ruling elites. Do you think the Ibos would have achieved tremendous success in business and technical capacities had they been benefiting like your kinds in government? Brother, NO! The circumstances of their ugly experience in the Nigerian project gave them a stronger zeal to succeed irrespective of the odds facing them. And they made good use of that experience by becoming a master of their own fates. Go outside the country today, you will see Nigerians, predominantly of the southern extractions beating the odds to excel. Yes, good things has its bad sides. Those are the negativity you see about their exploits. Every other nations of the world have theirs, the chinese triads, japanese yakuza, italian mafia, russian mob etc but the envy of the North and the inability of it's controlled govt failed to manage the negativity over the goods of the exploits of these Southern Nigerians. Anthony Joshua, Henry Akinwande, Wole Soyinka, Cyprian Ekwensi, Chimamanda Adigwe, Samuel Peters, Sade Adu, etc the names are just too many to mention not to talk of the recent ascension of some to political offices in the US, Canada, UK etc. Is it not best to call for a referendum to put this Nigerian project to test or rest? |
Igboarecriminal:Then let's discuss. First what's the bone of contention? If the leaders are really the problem, then the enlightened youths should come together to fix the imbalance in the system. The south, nay the SW is saying enough. Every life is important. We're just deceiving ourselves if we continue to claim the attrocities committed were done by the regular herdsmen. A group of bandits and terrorists are penetrating the south and committing heinous crimes pretending to be herders. And the gullible North is showing solidarity to these criminals all in the name of namu namu. Some of those serikis are not innocent either. The carnage in sasha was over one dirty illegal alien, and could have been avoided if that Seriki had handed over the bastard to the police for processing. The anger of the community would have been directed at the police if at all for their actions or inactions. But rather he chose to shelter him. All these titles should be abolished and outlaw by the states to avoid unnecessary arrogation of powers to some undeserving idiots. The runaway Seriki of igangan as expected will speak with both ends of his mouth. Is he not from Ilorin? Mesu jamba they say. Shey he's back at Asa, he should continue to practice his stupid intrigues there. Things get out of hand everywhere bcoz of the lack of effective response from the security agencies. People don't just take laws into their hands. They do only when the judicial system and administration have failed. It's time to have state and even local government policing units. |
RisenPhoenix1:Hmmmm Women are a different breed. The man maybe dead surprised by the time she came out with her true colors and maltreatment of her supposed nieces and nephews will shock his heart to fail. So long their culture permits that but he must be sure she's a good woman and a nice replacement for his dead wives. |
englishmart:They now resort to crime such as petty thefts, robbery, kidnapping, banditry etc to meet up the rise in price |
He's not a man. The girl is lucky to be free from the impeding danger of future life of misery and bondage. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Some men don't even know the best form of punishment to a lady is to part ways with her without collecting those stuffs you gave her. It will be an insignia, a sign of torment to her soul whenever she sees that thing especially, if she has betrayed the man. Even if she wasn't planning on dating the guy earlier, he has just succeeded in showing to the world that he's nothing but a fool. |
drlateef:It's very unfortunate that two Omo Oko Faaji fighting dirty in public. Both of you should sheath ur swords and learn to agree to disagree. Tinubu can't become anything nor rise above the station granted him by God. If truly he's a bastard why would two true born fight over ? |
ShootThemAll:Why not leave the man alone? Could he have done better than what the Ibadan boys did? Politicians will always play politics the onus is now on the youths to express their aspirations thru the ballot not playing soccer on the streets on the day of election or smoking weeds somewhere on that day. Soro soke isn't all about making the loudest noise or blocking free passage but an active purposeful participation in who decides our fates in time to come. |

It's a nice seeing those non Yorubas acting in Yoruba and speaking flawless Yoruba. It reminds me of growing up in Ebute Metta and AJ, with others as a family. What many don't know that some non Yorubas producers like Eddie Igbomah produced great Yoruba movies like Apalara and others, and the owner of NEK Video Link who produced all those Habija and Lalude movies in the early years was an Igbo man. For many years he only produced epic Yoruba movies before he replicated his success by producing Living in Bondage, the first successful Igbo movie. And little did people know that our own Lagos Bolaji Dawodu directed my cherished Nneka the Pretty Serpent. Seeing Bros like Emeka Ike in Eko Wenjele, and others too like Clarion Chukwura, Lady Regina Chuckwu, Rachael Oniga and others is a thing of joy. They speak and act like a native Yoruba person. It shows we are all one in the eyes of God. You're who you as your environment made you to be. One love |
BigDawsNet:Doris Simon and Mercy Aigbe are from Edo not Delta. Thanks. |
This sure looked like an enacted comedy na. |
BeigJawnson:The name is deceptive though but I doubt if an omoluabi will fancy such an appellation cos Ile la nwo ka to s'omo l'oruko. There are some philosophical meanings attached to names |
Dpharisee:His business is, he's Yoruba and Yorubaland belongs to the Yorubas. Any dissatisfied person could hug a life transformer. |
alfredilly:Kunle Afod isn't Afolabi but Afodunrin. Thanks |
ArewaHero:I'm a Muslim insh' Allah and by his grace I'm quite disappointed at your submission as a Muslim pointing your verbal assault at the entire southwest when you can't even actually pointed out the person you're referring to is actually a Yoruba person. And even if the person was a true believer in the words of Allah wouldn't and shouldn't have responded the way you did. You actually exposed traits of tribalism and bigotry in you and your personal hatred for the Yoruba race. Are you really a Muslim? Tribalism is the pernicious and deleterious ideology that afflicts all human societies in every time period. In modern times, we know it as the spectres of racism, xenophobia, supremacism, imperialism, slavery, fascism, genocide and ethnic cleansing. In practice, it rears its ugly head in the shape of prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination. Allah has commanded us to uphold justice with all other human beings regardless of their race, religion, or identity. Rather, the religion of Islam teaches us to uphold the rights of all human beings, to walk with humility, and to leave the divine judgment to Allah alone. We would do well to remember the fates of the humble sinner and the arrogant worshipper. In other words, it is never fair to compare the best of ourselves to the worst of others, lest we fall into the destructive sin of arrogance and braggadocio. No matter what scheme is used to justify tribalism, whether race, culture, or religion, the outcome is always the same: racist practice. Whoever the tribalists designate as the out-group will suffer prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination meant to enhance the tribalists own privilege at the expense of those they deem inferior. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raaji’uun! The method of tribalism is to issue blanket indictments of an entire race, culture, religion, or group of people. They will condemn an entire group for the crimes of a few, or misrepresent an entire group by only examining its worst elements. Thus, the purveyors of Islamophobia claim all Muslims are terrorists, the purveyors of anti-Semitism claim all Jews are greedy, and the purveyors of racism claim black people are natural criminals and parasites. In every case, the tribalists construct a false caricature of their victims to be the straw man of their vicious attacks. Islam teaches us to reject such blanket indictments and false generalisations. Some of the Prophet’s companions began to have bad thoughts about all of the Jews and Christians, but verses were revealed making clear distinctions the righteous and unrighteous. Allah the Most High said: “They are not all the same. Among the people of the Book (Jews and Christians) is a community standing in obedience, reciting the verses of Allah during the night and prostrating in prayer. They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to do good deeds. Those are among the righteous. Whatever good deeds they do will never be denied, for Allah knows well the righteous.” (Surah Ali Imran, 3:113-115) It would be wrong to negatively characterise an entire religious group with all its unique individuals and diverse interpretations. For this reason, the Prophet firmly censured the poets of his time who had a habit of excoriating entire tribes. Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Verily, the greatest of people in falsehood is a man who insults another man by disparaging the entire tribe.” (See Sunan Ibn Majah, 3761) In another narration, the Prophet said: “Verily, the greatest criminal among people is a poet who disparages the entire tribe.” (See al-Adab al-Mufrad, 870) Servants of Allah! If we accept blanket indictments of an entire group, then we are making a claim of collective guilt that will ultimately lead to collective punishment, and collective punishment is a crime of war. Islam rejects collective guilt and punishment, in word and deed, as innocent people may never be held accountable for the crimes of others. Allah the Most High said: “No soul earns anything except it is upon itself, and none shall bear the burdens of another.” (Surah Al-An’am, 6:164) Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “No man is to be punished for the crimes of his father or his brother.” (See Sunan An-Nasa’i, 4131) So, you coming on this page to attack the southwesterners is bad of you brother. You should know better that there are still some Ummah in their mists. I have always said we should show love to those non muslims who invade our threads to insult us, our faith and the prophet. The act of Deen is not to lose our senses or calmness just to score a cheap point. The righteous path is distinct from error. May Allah forgive our misdeeds. Read the expository article on tribalism and it's ills for a better understanding. https://opinion.premiumtimesng.com/2016/01/29/prohibition-tribalism-islam-murtada-gusau/ |
Barka00:Good you've gotten enough energy and drive in you. But it's better you redirect such such burst of energies towards something worthy and meaningful in your life. You focusing on hating is bad for the good health of your soul. If you're a true christians hear what your holy Bible tells you Luke 6:27-32 “But I say to you who are listening, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who are cruel to you. If anyone slaps you on one cheek, offer him the other cheek, too. If someone takes your coat, do not stop him from taking your shirt. Give to everyone who asks you, and when someone takes something that is yours, don’t ask for it back. Do to others what you would want them to do to you . If you love only the people who love you, what praise should you get? Even sinners love the people who love them. That's that and for the christians saying the kalimat shahada just so they can come to muslim threads to spite Islam and muslims if only they know the implications on their souls would have stopped. You just take a vow or oath with what you don't believe in? Hear the words of the Bible If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. Numbers 30:2 Would it not be wise to leave the muslims to their thing? Have a blessed day. |
alfredilly:And the Nigerian state also did a good job by exposing the political inclinations of some of the major actors of the protest. To truly achieve an effective organising against the govt it's important to have non partisan youths at the forefront. It's also possible for someone to be used to achieve sinister motive against without realizing it. Any agitation with political undertone is meant to achieve just that. The youths should be very careful not to be used by some groups trying to achieve their own political gains. |
lekki1444:You're correct jare my brother. Go to Lagos Island you will find similar history and families. Can he also explain why some families in his Edo have Yoruba names with deep and rich Yoruba meanings? Auchi, Sabogida ora, Owan etc? |
Aksnoopy:Pls get your facts right. The Modakekes are not slaves but descendants of great Yoruba warriors of mostly Oyo extraction. They left for Ife after the carnage visited on their land by the rampaging ILORIN army. It's natural that the then ruler of Ife offered them a parcel of land to settle. Afteral they are Yorubas, and yorubaland belongs to all Yorubas. The war between the two was a misunderstanding that was later resolved. The Modakekes may have tactical advantage over the Ifes cos they are born warriors like the people of Ibadan, while Ife has never been interested in wars not try to annex any other communities like other Yoruba kingdoms. That war is over and the bad blood has evaporated. |
