mr/ms folem pls dont bring your politics here, its funny you have only posted only compass newspapers articles which is obviously and unahsamedly biased towards pdp and one from a different source |
ElRazur:well then let me re-phrase my comment, what gives a diasporian the right to tell nigerians not to stand and watch evil thrive, when the diasporian in question is sitting back abroad,if you followed how africa got independence, the trail blazing pan africanist, the nkrumahs, the awolowos, ziks e.t.c were all diasporians who could have gotten good jobs had they stayed on abroad,so what excuse do the diasporians have?? if you felt that strongly about the state nigeria is in,my view is that you will be in nigeria, pro actively effecting change in your own little way,not staying afar off advocating for change(by you,i mean diasporians)we ave seen various charities send caucasian foreigners to take up the roles we should be volunteering for out of curiousity,if you r not advocating for violent change of any kind,in what way dyu propose nigerians changing the status quo if you dont mind me asking? ElRazur:well, like the saying you have used in your comment,if you felt things have not been done in the correctly prescribed way, then ill earnestly suggest rather than castigations you should throw your hat in the ring and give it a go,second theres nothing wrong in constructive criticism but when it becomes a regular past-time ro a way of scoring one for the team, then thats getting to become something else, diasporians who know themselves dont even believe politicians should be applauded for a good initiative just because they are doing the job their paid for, forgetting that leaders should be encouraged to do better ElRazur:well then,if you r not planning to be pro active, the purpose has been defeated already hasnt it? ill also answer this with a simple analogy, passing the buck endlessly i.e waiting for a proverbial knight in shinning armour and a flying pure white steed to rescue us will not and never get the job done,so i dont think the rap makes much sense, do you? ![]() |
@poster a little tip, when starting a thread such as this,or an objective discourse of any kind,it s helpful for you not to pre judge or be partisan before you hear various contributor's views, to answer your question, ill like to state clearly here that,i belong to the camp you have just highlighted and a capital and unequivocal no,i neither live in nigeria,so im not bitter nor jelouse neither do i have any unresolved issues, speaking for myself, the reason i totally diasgree with fellow diasporians is clear from most of their posts especially on here, what gives any individual or group of diasporians the right to castigate home based nigerians as not being desirous of real change because they r not protesting or standing in the path of the nigerian police's bullets? does the fact that the political leadership is messed up give diasporians the right to condemn every single initiative or scheme from govt? if you are residing abroad in the comfort of your living room, its difficult for you to justify calling for a revolution from average nigerians especially when u wont be there to fight with them but watch on cnn or cbs news when the casualities/body counts are being reported |
@post well done, sauce dripping over it,cheesy mash on the side salad and french dressing |
im not hating but i have to be honest, this is utter rubbish, first of all this is not a viable option for dbanj or kokolette as a brand because his brand will be in danger of being over saturated, hence the reason you wont get beckham putting his name to every single thing just for the money or fifty cent e.t.c doing same also the whole thing wasnt though out properly just like everything nigerian,is he looking for a kokolette as in a wife? or a girl to be his girlfriend? or the girl will just be miss kokolette as a title i.e ms nigeria,ms this or that, we always make sure we rubbish any foreign import, first it was bling bling now marketing and merchandising gone mad, naija stylee ![]() |
let them start with the easy ones first, good scripts from educated and seasoned script writes, professional directors and not half baked alaba market boys turned directors and producers, if you have the most expensive cameras and the storylines, directing are wack then all you ll get is a rubbish movie with good visuals |
sight, nt again!! |
ayexel:the rest of the collated results has not been released, and the remaining election in oye has been postponed indefinitely and the electoral commissioner's wherebouts unkown, there r still a lot of specualtions flying about but thats the situation for now, check the articles in other threads on here, oni is not leading by 10,000 votes as far as the released results so far he is leading by less than 500 not counting the 12,000 votes ac is leading by |
UPDATES: 5:00 PM deadline passes without trace of INEC and PDP officials at collation center in Ekiti. Also, the Ekiti State resident electoral commissioner has been summoned to Abuja, while INEC resident commissioner from Anambra State has been drafted to announce the results. Mass protests and rally continues in Ado-Ekiti.Tension builds as Southwest PDP officials met with Yar'adua to ask him for help with "Federal might". Sources at the presidency told Saharareporters that a "State of emergency" is being considered as a solution to the situation. The situation in Ekiti state has degenerated since yesterday's election re-run that saw Action Congress (AC) candidate leading with 11,551 votes. The numbers of vote tally included the votes already added to his tally after the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the election petitions. Our reporters said INEC officials have deserted the collation center in Ado -Ekiti and the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro has arrived in Ado-Ekiti by helicopter to oversee "security" Ekiti youths and opposition party operatives have taken over the area surrounding the collation center with "Rig and Roast" chants as the 5:00 PM deadline for final collation and announcement of election results approaches. AC officials told Saharepoorters that PDP party chiefs are planning to add 15,000 votes from Ido-Osi local government as way of declaring victory in the elections, but they are too scared to declare the results because of the massive resistance by people across the state. A meeting between the AC, PDP, INEC and the IG of police is due in less than 30 minutes http://www.saharareporters.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2592:inec-officials-disappears-from-ekiti-updates-ado-ekiti-as-500pm-deadline-for-final-collation-and-announcement-appraoches-protesters-intensify-reistance-in-ado-ekiti&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 |
blacksta:i tire o,im sure the guy is one of the pdp aides trying to do his bit for the party, how can your "source"who is pdp be anyything but partisan towards the rest of the political parties especially ac,physical counting and collation of results even if the rest of the voting has been done cannot be done before 3pm at the very least |
lawole:your sources are not correct,as at this morning oni was leading by around 300 or so votes thats not counting the 11,000 plus fayemi has on him,so when did the voting start in the remaining voting areas for inec to collate the results and already known oni is leading by 5000 votes, r u sure you r not a staff of compass |
i disagree with you,the politicians are fermenting the trouble,if you check virtually all the media outlets with the exception of the compass,a recurring name has been senator arise and to a lesser extent sen adeleke and omisore, the people should be commended for defending their votes thus far even though a lot had been clearly swayed by the rice and salt |
•INEC holds election in 2 wards today From Nosike Ogbuenyi, Ademola Adeyemo, Toba Suleiman and Senator Iroegbu in Ado-Ekiti with agency reports, 04.26.2009 The two major political parties in yesterday’s re-run governorship election in some wards in 10 local government areas of Ekiti State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Congress (AC) were running neck-to-neck in the elections declared last night by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in five of the council areas. According to the results, the PDP polled 15,420 while the AC had garnered 15, 026 votes. This is, however, exclusive of the over 11,000 votes that the AC had recorded in its credit after cancellation of fraudulent figures by the Court of Appeal that ruled on February 17 in Ilorin on a matter brought to it by the AC regarding the 2007 election in the state. A breakdown of the results released last night by INEC’s National Commissioner for Operations, Mr. Adedeji Shoyebi showed that the PDP polled 1,925 votes in Gbonyin Local Government while the AC scored 2,871. In Ekiti South West, AC got 351 votes; PDP (423); Ise Orun: AC 4,221; PDP 3,864; Ijero: AC 1,881; PDP 5,12) and Irepodun: AC 5,702; PDP (4,087). However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday postponed voting in two wards in Oye Local Government Area till today following acts of violence by suspected thugs. The wards are Oye I and Oye II. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Ekiti State, Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo, said the decision was taken due to the security situation in the area and the need to ensure that the people were not disenfranchised. Sixty-one persons suspected to be thugs, were arrested during the re-run election, said, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), B Operations at Force Headquarters, Mr. John Ahmadu. Ahmadu, who was deployed to Ekiti State for the election, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview in Ado-Ekiti that the suspects were arrested with “incriminating” materials. He said 36 persons were arrested in connection with the violence in Oye-Ekiti having been found with incriminating materials such as charms, bottles of alcohol and dangerous weapons. “So far, 36 people suspected to be thugs were arrested in Oye-Ekiti town in connection with the crisis that led to the postponement of election in two wards there,'' he said. He further said that 25 suspected thugs were also arrested by the police in other parts of the state for their involvement in violence during the election. Ahmadu said, however, that the police were “battle ready” for Sunday's (today’s) voting in two wards in Oye local government area. ``We will match them with adequate security," he said. The DIG denied claims that some people died in the reported skirmishes at Oye-Ekiti earlier yesterday that led to the postponement of the election there. He also said the police were still hunting for the people that macheted a second republic Senator, Lawrence Agunbiade, at Ise-Ekiti while he was on his way to a relation's home before voting started. NAN reports that the election was conducted in 61 wards in nine local governments but voting in Wards 1 and 2 in Oye Local Government areas were postponed to Sunday because of acts of violence by persons suspected to be thugs. To ensure free and fair election, the INEC redeployed 1,500 personnel from outside Ekiti while three resident electoral commissioners from Imo, FCT and Jigawa were also brought in to assist the state resident electoral commissioner, Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo. The election began peacefully amid heavy police presence. However, no soldiers were sighted in Ado Ekiti, the state capital and in all the 10 local government areas where voting took place. But police helicopter was also sighted hovering in the sky at Usi Ekiti, the home town of former Minister of Aviation, Professor Babalola Borisade In Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area, voting commenced as early as 9.15am, in Igede-Ekiti, Awo and Osi in Ido-Osi Local Government, whereas in areas like Iropora and Usi ward voting was not on at about 10:30 am when THISDAY visited the area. However, there was a massive turn out of voters in Ikole, Awo and Ifaki. Former Governor Segun Oni voted in his home town Ifaki around 9.50am. Speaking to journalists, Oni said though there was tension in some areas, the election was peaceful. He attributed the tension to the desperation of the Action Congress (AC), who he said was desperate in its bid to get to power. The AC governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in a telephone interview said it is regrettable that the “leopard would never change its skin”, as he accused the PDP of snatching ballot boxes. He alleged that supporters of the PDP were caught by vigilant AC members while trying to snatch boxes and stuffing others. THISDAY investigation revealed that some prominent politicians in the area had petitioned the police alleging that some unnamed persons had stockpiled arms and ammunitions with the intention to attack them. They told the security agents that if election took place yesterday there would be serious violence. Last month, one person was shot dead in the area when supporters of the PDP and and the AC clashed. Incidentally, both Senator Ayo Arise, a chieftain of the PDP and the AC governorship candidate, Fayemi, hail from the local government area. As at 2pm when THISDAY left the area, angry youths stationed themselves in strategic areas in the town. Also there was a subdued tension in the Ilupeju area of the state. In Ifaki, youths from the town were hostile, especially to journalists who came to cover the election in the morning. Journalists were asked to show their identity cards before being allowed to carry out their duties. However, yesterday’s election was not devoid of violence as a chieftain of the AC in Ise, Orun Local Government Area and a Second Republic Senator, Chief Lawrence Agunbiade (a.k.a LACO) escaped death by the whiskers as he was attacked by some people suspected to be thugs with guns and matchets. His Personal Assistant, Femi Ekundayo, was not spared as he received several matchet cuts on his head and back. Agunbiade’s vehicle, a Toyota Sienna with registration number DZ18GGE was shot at. When THISDAY visited the victims at the General Hospital, Ikere Ekiti, Agunbiade said he was on his way to Emure to hire some vehicles to convey policemen to the polling areas. “When I received complaints from the police that they could not move their men due to lack of vehicle, I decided to help by hiring some vehicles in Emure. “However, on my way back I was waylaid by thugs who fired several gunshots at my vehicle. When the shots missed me, they dragged us out of the vehicle and dealt us several machete cuts," he said. He also alleged that his attackers were led by an official of Emure Local Government Area. He further alleged that his personal effects including phones and a briefcase were stolen by the attackers. In Ado Ekiti, policemen arrested two young men with a vehicle marked 'NANS'. When the vehicle was searched, some machetes, axes and charms were discovered in the boot. They were detained at the Police Headquarters, Ado Ekiti. Speaking on the election, Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Election, Hon. Muhammed Sale Aliyu, who led other members of the committee to monitor the election, praised the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for doing what he called a good job in Ekiti State. According to him, “INEC did well by allowing all party representatives to witness the distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials. They were also allowed to accompany ballot boxes to the polling booths. We are also satisfied with the security arrangement” Also commenting on the voting exercise, Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, said “The election was marred by large scale violence in many parts of Ekiti State. In most parts, the police looked elsewhere as PDP leaders and thugs had a field day. In other places, mobile policemen aided the rigging of the election by criminal gangs who were allegedly sponsored by the ruling party. “In Ilawe, Ekiti South west where Mr. Dele Adeshina (SAN) and I pressurised the police to arrest six fake mobile policemen, who were brandishing guns at polling booths, the police only chased them away and let them off the hook. “If what happened today (yesterday) represents the rebranding of Nigeria’s democracy, then the country has a long way to go,” he said source;http://nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |
the question begging for an answer is,rigging aside, who are the ekiti indigenes still voting with eyes wide open for pdp?? sometimes we deserve everything we get from these people, how can pdp still have these kind of margins with all that has gone on in that state?guessn the salt and rice sharing still works after all,the politicians have gotten enough blame, they deserve everything oni will put them through if the guy should win this election! |
@labiyemmy (m) London Posts: 511 Offline Re: Nigerians In The Diaspora Making The Return Journey Back Home. « #5 on: Today at 09:12:33 PM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- People like us moved back, not waiting for the development of our field, but actually pioneering the development and earning money in the process - why do i have to wait for the development, why cant i spearhead that development? It is a case of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you, if everyone waits till their field is developed, then, who will develop the country or how will the country develop then? @labiyemi i totally agree with the above written comment, something new will start to happen in nigeria once diasporians can start to think like you do and knowing that waiting for the an utopian nigeria will translate to waiting endlessly, im however glad that most nigerian diasporians have started to come round to this way of reasoning, including the younger generation moving home in droves |
okie, the guys you have met already will give you a pretty good idea of all you need to know about the business climate considering they r on ground there |
this is really sad,i wonder what the woman and the children will have gone through emotionally, knowing they r helpless to stop it and the fact that there is every probability of the robbers coming back again, wonder when this police reform will finally be implemented, this is getting out of hand!! |
lol,the man is a pleasant distraction from the usual brand of nigerian political manueverings, phantasmagoria, overgasted and flabawhelmed lol lol 7;10 to 7;35 was hilarious when the lady asked him the meaning lol ![]() |
always wondered as well but was too fraid to ask, cause of the answer i mite get, think she might be tho |
if you r really serious,my elder brother is one of the top guys in the osun state free trade zone investment boards, cant really mention his name on here but send me your email with what you have in mind and i could link you up,there are enough viable investments in osun state and he could get you tax breaks and other govt help possibly meet the governor if the investment is genuine and big enough |
exactly!!that is the reason i dont post on every single topic, for instance i cant post on the fuel situation because im not in nigeria presently and cant rely on sahara reports or online newspapers, this is what some people dont seem to realise, what nigerian online sources will give is at best an abstract so you cant argue or make a stance based on the strenght of such. like you said,we nigerians in the diaspora bring more shame to nigeria as a country abroad by the negative stuffs some of us get up to,the worst of nigerians in nigeria is not the average nigerian but political leadership, the worst nigerians in the diasporians are found both in the blue collar, students, rich, poor, male, female e.t.c so who should be criticising the other for giving nigeria a bad name? if you think you have seen it all abroad and know the panacea for nigerian's problems based on your sojourn abroad, rather than espousing theories online,i believe the real test of an individual diasporian is going to nigeria in total faith of his/her convictions to practicalise all they know, then and not before will you have earned the right to start criticising every initiative, scheme the govt embarks on be it good or bad |
@biina lets assume for the sake of this discourse that it was a doctored audio, the choice of words would have been the very first thing anybody would work on,why would i go through the effort of faking an audio then turn round to use a wrong choice of words? you seem to forget that this meeting was held 1.according to the report at 8pm(in the evening) 2.meant to be a hush hush/secretive meeting i dont know about you,but i sometimes use my portable recorder when i was receiving lectures and the audio quality comes out pristine simply because only one person was talking(lecturer)in this case the man in question. he was telling them that he ll provide some stuffs for them, can u imagine a siting governor saying stuffs like that, you reckon he wants to be there longer than necessary?talk less of entertaining questions,of course not! true, but again if i was going to fake your voice and claim you were having a meeting with 16 ppl, dont you think getting a couple of people to sound likepoliticians is the easiest? an echo will not be present or audible in a small/medium room with 17 ppl huddled together, especially if it isnt an empty room. like i said, try using a very good phone recorder or portable recorder in a church/lecture hall e.t.c and you ll get same/similar audio quality while you are totally right in sticking to your convictions on what you think of the audio,i am totally convinced that there is something to that allegations untill proven otherwise. 1.if i faked an audio, the last person i will make that attempt on isnt a retired general and lawyer especially at a time when i was gaining the upper hand. 2.if i faked an audio,i wouldnt be confident enough to foward it to the presidency, knowing what the result would portent if found out 3.if i faked an audio, rather than releasing it as it was recorded,i would take my time to edit it properly especially as by your assertions its pointing to someone reading a script in one room, why not get 5/6 people to talk in groups for maximum effect, surely thats a no-brainer for a master strategist for want of a better word, recording and editing voices/voice overs |
biina:we have all heard him talk, moreover audio recordings especially when unedited doesnt sound like one's voice, try using a recorder or phone in a public place and then play back to listen to your own voice, besides what kind of response does anyone give to what he said there, singing the national item or disagreeing with him?? saying that the recording was falsified seemes to me as you having pre judged and made up your mind already without waiting for the experts to determine if it was or not, bearing in mind the people that did the recordings would have known enough of audio recordings to know that a forgery of that kind will be found out |
read somewhere she was pursuign a degree programme in one of the universities full time ehnce the absence, |
why all this nollywood pple dey find abroad based men to marry i tire oooooo
because they want a ready made man,who is young, not married and no potbelly, the best chance of getting that is abroad as most rich young men in nigeria are either married, from priviledged backgrounds hence will not even go near actresses and most important, guys abroad dont know their histories, thats why they keep them hidden jelously till they have handcuffed the guy with marriage |
sbo:really?hows that work then, cause it seems what u r asserting is that someone who s spent years abroad will be conversant with the local politics, social issues e.t.c than a nigerian living in nigeria or a diasporian that goes back to nigeria very often sbo:im guessing you are a long term diasporian as well, because anyone that has travelled to nigeria often in the last couple of years will see and acknowledge the changes that has happened, notable mentions are rivers and lagos state including others so a blanket fail or negative is totally unreasonable sbo:the issue here is not that nigerians are content with the status quo,but what gives the nigerian diasporian the right to cast vitriol on nigerians in nigeria when they r not doing much themselves i.e being in nigeria and leading by example?nigerians have something tom say for themselves ,after all they fought on the streets during the millitary era, during the hope 1993 e.t.c what have the diasporian who has been abroad for 10/15/20 years to say for him/herself? sbo:well, they see other countries, including neighbouring african countries and the way they r run,the fact is that everybody knows what is expected of elected officials and that they are only performing their duties but in view of the endemic corruption that has pervaded the country over the years,a politician who goes against the general norm of his peers by doing the right thing deserves to be praised so he ll be encouraged to do more, hence the reason ppl like fashola gets accolades |
once again,he s justified the reason he is called the best and most humane, focused governor in nigeria |
and how sure r u that its not him, considering it was a secret recording and not expected to be pitch perfect |
@post no they dont,an overwhelming majority just want to rubbish the country more hence the reason they never see anything good in the country and even if they do acknowledge it,they do so with cautious cynisycm, for you to know the nigerian diasporians in this category 1.they have been away for upwards of ten years or more 2.didnt have a middle to high standard of living hence the fixation of nigeria still being as they left it in their sub-conscious 3.they rarely call friends and family at home, neither do they even pick up international calls due to their imbibed western culture that" im working hard for my money and not nder any obligation to shell out to any family or friend"this had had an effect of them being totally disconnected 3.they rely on nigerian social networks, pointblank, sahara e.t.c for news and happenstances on nigeria hence they never get involved in issues that isnt reported on these mediums cause they honestly have no idea. 4.they have been away for too long, and hearing how expensive properties are, basic standard of livng e.t.c ar in nigeria, they ll criticise in a strangely mistaken believe that nigerians in nigeria will fight for the liberation of that country, things will be ok and nigeria will become this egalitarian dream of theirs then they can move back home more to come, |
Afaukwu:was all these necessary??or how has this lessened or taken anything off the man's laudable achievements? sometimes i just wonder at what comes out of the mouth of nigerians, first its the unreasonably innocuous comments up there now this |
thats really awesome nigerians holding it down in quatar,is there a link to the documentary by any chance? these are the kind of people we need to come rescue nollywood from the hands of the quacks holding it by the jugular |
OMO IBO:@the bolded while im not criticising you for your comments as you have apologised to the threadster,im using it as a template of comments a typical diasporian will make when critiquing government efforts without recourse to the underlying reasons,or the general mechanics surrounding them, while it is a known fact that there s been a failure in leadership,we should endeavour to give people the benefit of doubt especially if they have endeavoured to prove themselves,we should also imbibe the culture of praising and appreciating it when govt does something right irrespective of it being our rights or not @post what can i say, fashola is has raised the stakes of good governance yet again, cant wait to see the next initiative he has up his sleeve on the whole kudos and more grease to his elbows and his cabinet |
