IslamRuling On Using Emojis When Chatting by Lukgaf(op): 8:14am On Feb 16, 2024
grin grin cry

Can we use these types of emojis when chatting? Does it come under the same ruling as images that is forbidden to make, draw or use?

Praise be to Allah.

It seems – and Allah knows best – that this face, whether it is smiling or sad, does not come under the same ruling as images that it is forbidden to make, draw, or use, for two reasons:

1 – It contains none of the features of a real face, such as eyes, mouth and nose, and it has no head or ears.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The image is the head; if the head is cut off, there is no image.” Narrated by al-Ismaa’eeli in his Mu’jam from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas and classed as saheeh by al-Albani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah no. 1921 and in Saheeh al-Jaami’ no. 3864.

2 – The majority of fuqaha’ are of the view that if something is cut off from an image without which it could no longer live, then it is not a haram image. For a detailed discussion of this issue and the views of other madhhabs, see Ahkaam al-Tasweer fi’l-Fiqh al-Islami, pp. 224-240.

But we should point out two things:

This usage in chatting on the internet does not come under the drawing of images, rather it comes under the use of images.

Please see the answer to question no. 78963 .

Secondly: A woman should not use these images when speaking to a man who is not her mahram, because these faces are used to express how she is feeling, so it is as if she is smiling, laughing, acting shy and so on, and a woman should not do that with a non-mahram man.

It is only permissible for a woman to speak to men in cases of necessity, so long as that is in a public chat room and not in private correspondence.

And Allah knows best.

PoliticsIseyin Indigenes Remain In Kidnappers’ Den – 3 Months After Abduction by Lukgaf(op): 5:44pm On Feb 15, 2024
Iseyin Indigenes Remain in Kidnappers' Den - 3 Months After Abduction in Kaduna

...Kidnappers insist on N100m ransom
...Families seeking Tinubu, Makinde's intervention

Three indigenes of Iseyin local government area, Oyo state, abducted by weapon-wielding kidnappers in Kaduna state, are still in the den of their abductors —barely three months after they were whisked away at gunpoint in their home.

Squadron Leader Nurudeen Popoola, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer and his wife, Ganiyat Olawale-Popoola – a medical doctor, were abducted at 1am at their residence at the National Eyes Center Quaters, Mando, Kaduna, on December 27, 2023.

Kidnapped with them is Abdulmugniy Folaranmi, a 16-year-old 100-level student of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna.

The kidnappers have since demanded N100 million ransom amid threats to harm, leaving the families of the victims in fear and mounting pressure.

Kidnappers insist on N100m
Speaking with DAILY INSIDER, a relative of the victims, said efforts to meet the N100 million ransom demand by the kidnappers have not been fully yielding, though close to N50 million has been raised.

According to him, the family appealed to the kidnappers to reduce the ransom to N50 million, but they refused and threatened to harm their abductors.

“The last time they called, we told them the amount gathered was not up to N100 million; they flared up and insisted on their demand.

“As it is now, we are helpless. We have sold almost everything. We rely on God to make their release possible,” he told this publication.

Family appeal to Makinde, Tinubu as insecurity bites hard
Meanwhile, the families of the victims have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come to the rescue of their kinsmen.

This publication reported that this appeal was contained in a statement released by the cousin of the Air Force officer, Alhaji Olatunde Rafiu (Isola), on January 17.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, he said the family members have made frantic efforts to reach out to Governor Makinde through e-mail, as they could not meet with him physically.

“We are renewing our appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to please help us do something within the little time left of the ultimatum given, God Almighty will protect you, your children and your loved ones,” Folaranmi begged.

Episode 3 - Writing Surds in its simplest/basic form

Although it is not possible to remove the radical on surds in such a way that it produces an integer or whole number, we can rewrite it in its simplest form by ensuring that the number underneath the root sign (called the radicand) has no square numbers as factors. In this video, I explain how.

Brief Commentary from Hadith Commentary

- Many scholars considered this hadith in terms of its isnad to be weak. Due to this it is best to avoid saying this is what the prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said.

- This hadith in terms of its meaning is sound, hence it should be studied as it contains many wise words and advice

- The wording of this hadith “Verily Allah the Almighty has prescribed the obligatory deeds…” implies that Allah is the sole legislator. This means great care should be taken when giving an Islamic ruling as we are effectively saying, “Allah says so and so”, therefore giving Islamic rulings is like speaking on behalf of Allah.

- Imam Malik used to say, “I have seen many of our scholars answer a question by saying I dislike this or I do not like it, and did not answer by saying halal or haram”.

- The statement of Imam Malik shows how the great scholars of the past used to have so much fear of speaking on behalf of Allah that although matters were clearly haram, they used to avoid saying it is haram, but said I dislike it.

- The sahabah did not ask much if something is disliked or recommended as they used to do what Allah loves, whether obligatory or recommended, and used to abstain from what He dislikes, whether forbidden or disliked.

- The limits that are being referred to in this hadith are the things which separate halal from haram, so we Allah has put these limits therefore we must not go beyond them by going from halal into haram.

- Not everything that the shari’ah doesn’t mention explicitly is permissible to do as some prohibitions are understood from implicit evidences e.g. we implicitly understand from the verse of not saying “uff” to the parents that it is also forbidden to hit them.

- Not asking many questions was more severe in the time of the prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam), as it may result in a ruling to be legislated which makes things harder, as what happened when Musa was asked about the details of the cow that needed to be sacrificed.

Although the prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) has passed away and there is no risk of making the religion more difficult, we must still not ask questions on things which are of no benefit to us, or of things which are not meant to be known e.g. how does Allah look like, etc

Benefits and Action points

-Allah has made this religion easy for us, as the permissible matters far exceed the forbidden matters so we should be grateful to Allah for that
-We should also be grateful to Allah for making the shari’ah very easy and not complicated
-Understand that when saying something is halal or haram, you are speaking

This week, let's review the 30th hadith of the forty hadith of An-nawawih. For the past review, see here

It was narrated on the authority of Abi Tha’labah Al-Khushani Jurthum bin Nashir (RadhiyAllahu ‘anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

“Verily Allah the Almighty has prescribed the obligatory deeds, so do not neglect them; He has set certain limits, so do not go beyond them; He has forbidden certain things, so do not indulge in them; and He has said nothing about certain things, as an act of mercy to you, not out of forgetfulness, so do not go enquiring into these”

IslamThe Month Of Sha'ban Is Upon Us! by Lukgaf(op): 8:23am On Feb 09, 2024
Sha'ban is upon us. According to the counting of Sultan, today (Friday, 9th of February) corresponds to the 28th day of Rajab, indicating that the first day of Sha'ban will fall on either Sunday or Monday. Are we preparing for this month?

'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) used to fast until we thought he would never break his fast, and then he would refrain from fasting until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah fasting for an entire month except in Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more than he did in Sha'ban.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari, no. 1833; Muslim, no. 1956).

According to another narration reported by Muslim (no. 1957): “He used to fast the entire month of Sha'ban, except for a few days.”

Let us endeavor to observe fasting during this blessed month and increase our worship in anticipation of the upcoming Ramadan. This presents another opportunity for women who may have missed fasts during the previous Ramadan.

May Allah grant us success, accept our worship, bless us with longevity, good health, wealth, and steadfast faith.

IslamDespite The Hardship In Nigeria, Please Let's Strive For Halaal Earnings by Lukgaf(op): 12:16pm On Feb 02, 2024
As we navigate the challenges of economic hardship in Nigeria, it is crucial to reflect on the ethical choices we make, especially when it comes to our earnings. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the significance of halal sustenance, that this life is temporary, and our actions will be accounted for in the eternal Hereafter.

In the face of economic difficulties, the allure of quick, albeit unlawful, gains may be tempting. However, let us be mindful that the temporary relief such earnings provide carries eternal consequences. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has prohibited certain means of acquiring wealth, and our commitment to halal earnings is a testament to our faith and trust in His divine provisions.

Allah says:

"And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]." (Quran 2:188)"
In closing, it is important to discern genuine scholars from those who may mislead. There are individuals who, unfortunately, lend an ear to half-backed scholars subtly endorsing unlawful practices.

A genuine scholar, firmly grounded in knowledge, would unequivocally discourage engaging in illicit activities such as 'yahoo yahoo' or any form of dishonest earnings. True scholars are guardians of the ethical and lawful principles outlined in Islam, guiding us toward righteousness, patience, and trust in Allah's mercy during challenging times.

May Allah grant us strength, resilience, and the wisdom to make choices that align with His commandments.
IslamMeans Of Goodness by Lukgaf(op): 11:58am On Feb 02, 2024
This week, let's review the 29th hadith of the forty hadith of An-nawawih. For the past review, see here

"On the authority of Muadh bin Jabal (may Allah be please with him) who said:

I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an act which will take me into Paradise and will keep me away from the Hellfire.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'You have asked me about a great matter, yet it is easy for him for whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah without associating any partners with Him; establish the prayer; pay the Zakah; fast in Ramadan; and make the pilgrimage to the House.'

"Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not guide you towards the means of goodness? Fasting is a shield, charity wipes away sin as water extinguishes fire, and the praying of a man in the depths of the night.' Then he (peace be upon him) recited: '[Those] who forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's cause) out of what We have bestowed on them. No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do' [as-Sajdah, 16-17].

"Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not inform you of the head of the matter, its pillar and its peak?' I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is the prayer and its peak is jihad.' Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not tell you of the foundation of all of that?' I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' So he took hold of his tongue and said, 'Restrain this.' I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, will we be taken to account for what we say with it?' He (peace be upon him) said, 'May your mother be bereaved of you, O Muadh! Is there anything that throws people into the Hellfire upon their faces, or on their noses, except the harvests of their tongues?'

[Tirmidhi]"

The key points are as follows:

Essentials for Paradise:

- Muadh seeks advice from the Prophet (peace be upon him) on actions leading to Paradise and safeguarding against Hellfire.
- The Prophet's response emphasizes fundamental acts: worshiping Allah alone, establishing prayer, giving Zakah, observing fasting in Ramadan, and performing the pilgrimage.

Means of Goodness:

- The Prophet expands on additional means of goodness: fasting as a shield, charity erasing sins like water extinguishing fire, and night prayer.
- The emphasis on nighttime prayer highlights its significance in drawing near to Allah.

Guidance on the Essence of Islam:

-The Prophet succinctly outlines the essence of Islam: Islam as the head, prayer as its pillar, and jihad as its peak.
- This hierarchy signifies the centrality of submission to Allah, the importance of prayer, and the pinnacle of striving for His cause.

Foundation of All Matters:

-The Prophet identifies the foundation of all these principles by symbolically holding his tongue.
-The restraint of the tongue is emphasized, underscoring the accountability for careless words.

Warning Against Harmful Speech:
-The Prophet illustrates the potential harm of the tongue, emphasizing its role in leading individuals to the Hellfire.
-This serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of thoughtless speech and the need for mindful communication.

In essence, this hadith imparts comprehensive guidance, urging believers to adhere to the fundamental tenets of Islam, engage in virtuous deeds, and exercise caution in their speech.

The Solution To Nigeria FX Problem

How CBN can tackle raising inflation and bring down usd 1$ back to N200 or N500 at most.

1, For Nigerians travelers ( that needs physical cash BTA)
Asign personnel to Exchange fx directly from the Airport only with requirements like visa and traveling ticket evidence.

2, most of the Exchange fx can as well be gotten from the returning at the airport from those who might want to change their fx.

3. A) all Nigerians that needs foreign currency must open an E-naira accounts. Confiscate and mop up all physical foreign currency trading in the market and issue them the digital currency wallet via the e-naira. They can hoard limited fx if they like but it must be digital on the e-naira wallet and not on the physical notes.

B) Create a dollar, pounds, euro wallet account . (At least the major currency Nigerians are mostly using) inside the E-naira platform where people can conveniently move monies from there enaira account at the approved exchange rate converted to all currency wallets. They can as well convert it back to naira wallet any time as needed.

C) Major importers will have to registered with the CBN and ensure they are truly importers and have their limit increases base on their import capacity. No physical dollar will be giving but digital dollars on their e-naire. Also encourage foreign merchants especially the Chinese to open an enaira wallet for easier transactions. Cbn will need to promote and sell the enaire idea to Chinese merchants.

D) mini importers and others can make purchases online with the enaira dollar mastercards at a minimum limit of 5k or 10k usd a year.

E) flight tickets booking should be done via enaira master cards.

F) school fees or those sending money abroad can use the same enaira cards or crypto currency as it already been done.
Hope criminally minded Nigerians will not game this

PoliticsRe: Opinion: On The Effect Of Fuel Subsidy Removal And Floating Of Naira. by Lukgaf(op): 11:09am On Jan 30, 2024
9jatriot:
The simple answer to your novel idea is roundtripping. Collect at a subsidized rate from government and sell at market rate. Officials stealing it.
You see this our Nigerian citizens, we are a peculiar people. People here most play the blame game and complain when they are not the ones of it is not their person benefiting.
But I think if linked with NIN where people thumbprint and they (those in charge) give account based on the number of people (thumbprint) captured, that might reduce round tripping I think.
PoliticsOpinion: On The Effect Of Fuel Subsidy Removal And Floating Of Naira. by Lukgaf(op):
Reflecting on the harsh consequences of fuel subsidy removal and the growing high rate of Naira to Dollar, coupled with the government's plan to have proceeds from fuels sold by NNPCL directly remitted to the CBN account instead of NNPCL's personal account, I explored multiple pages of comments on Nairaland where related was posted to gauge public perception of the new policy. See the thread here

Subsequently, I engaged in a discussion with a good brother(a mathematician turned accountant), to gather insights on whether this move might address corruption within NNPCL and earn us more FOREX. In our conversation, we discussed various challenges facing our country. In summary, we agreed that while certain government policies, such as total subsidy removal and a floating Naira, are theoretically sound, their effectiveness is hampered by the complexity of Nigeria and the attitudes of our people.

A few hours after our conversation, an idea surfaced in my mind on how to address the problem of food insufficiency, which disproportionately affects the poor and makes life challenging for civil servants. What if the Federal Government collaborates with private food companies, like Gunju farm Fresh, that sell food bags (e.g., Ramadan packages with 25kg rice, 5kg beans, and other items) for around 60k ?

The government could purchase these items in bulk and sell them back to citizens at a more subsidized rate, say between 30-35k. To prevent corruption, they could incorporate people's National Identification Numbers (NIN) at authorized centers in each local government and provide a thumbprint before purchasing the subsidized food. Each NIN would be entitled to only one bag per month, curbing corruption among those in charge.

In my opinion, this approach appears more effective than the current palliative measures that often fall into the hands of the greedy and corrupt individuals or where are the CNG buses, the rice and billions of Dollars they said they distributed?

Additionally, such an initiative could create job opportunities as food companies would require more personnel thereby reducing the problem of unemployment.

This strategy could be sustained until the subsidy removal regime is over, there is a stable exchange rate, and there is an increase in the new minimum wage. What are your thoughts on these?

Thanks

If you can tell me the answer to this simple math, I will accurately tell you your birthday. Ready?

- Take the number of the month in which you were born (e.g., 2 if you were born on the 27th day of February).
- Double the number (i.e., 2 x 2 = 4 ).
- Add 5 to it (in this case, 5 + 4 = 9).
- Multiply your result by 5 (i.e., 9 x 5 = 45).
- Put a zero behind your answer (450).
- Add your date of birth (450 + 27 = 477).

By telling me the final answer from your own calculation, I can accurately guess your birthday!
