ontarian: Bro, but do u really believe that oduduwa came from heaven(sky)?
No. I believe Oduduwa came from space not heaven or sky.
The sky wasn't even created when Oduduwa came.

Note: I have two Oduduwa
1. Historical and Political
2. Spirituality and creation
oduduwa teacher, so pls what exactly die oduduwa teach? That oduduwa's10,000 yes older than jesus christ. Ok good for him. If ile life is actually 10,000BC old then where are the archeological facts? At least we see d walled city of China. Where is d walled city of life?
Go and do ur research.

Evidence of live on Ile-Ife dating far back as 3000BC exist
Oral history states Ile-Ife is over 6000 yrs.

The building still standing in Ile-Ife are over 1500yrs

Many unearthed human equipments dating 600BC have been found in ile-Ife

It's ur father that is crazy
Oduduwa arrived at Ife in the 11th century

Ile-Ife was already existing before Oduduwa came.

Over 90 chiefs ruled Ife before Oduduwa
Even oduduwa the prince of benin that created ile life is not up to 2,013yrs . oba distorting history while urging others not to.
If ile ife is 10,000BC old, then the great Aro in igboland is more than 1,000,000BC old then. Because we are far more civilised than yorubas
Such ignorance.

Oduduwa is not any bini prince, how can he be bini prince when there wasn't bini until Oranmiyan helped the igodo people?

Oduduwa is not the one that established Ile-Ife
Oduduwa was just a Great king, the beginning of a new era, like Oranmiyan began a new era for igodo people.

Ile-Ife has over 6000 yrs of human activities

We should just respect each others beliefs, instead of all these banters.
Ooni Sijuwade is Christian. But as a Yoruba king paganism must be ur proclaimed religious affiliation.

He used to be a pure Christian before he became Ooni

If u believe Jesus but disbelief Oduduwa then u don't deserve respect and are a complete hypocrite

GentleMimi: Wow! Congratulations! But really, how does this matter in our present situation? I did my internship at Ife and i can tell u the place is acient! The ruins of the Modakeke/Ife crisis are still visible till date. The saving grace of Ife is the teaching hospital and OAU. Apart frm that, the town is boring and dry!
Now i ask,if a town has been so acient, why the backwardness? I even asked a friend of mine why Ife had a high number of mad people.(Sorry i cn't say his reply)
Its not about how far,Baba Oni,its about how well. Ife is still far from civilisation! *if it pains u,bite me*
and mind u,i lived there for one whole year at Lagere,Modakeke! I travelled to Lag every weekend i was not on call duty ,cos spending a weekend in Ife was a punishment.
That's for u o.

I enjoyed my stay in Ife
It's not all modern with big city buildings but it's a lovely place to spend weekend.

xp17: Ile ife originated from bini.
The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan who later formed Ile-Ife, somehow earned the title of Ooni (Oghene) at Ile-Ife and refused to return back to bini, then sent his son Oranmiyan to become king oba of bini. Prince Oranmiyan took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, was the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to his native land, Ile-Ife. After some years in Ife, he left for Oyo, where he also left a son behind on leaving the place, and his son Ajaka ultimately became the first Alafin of Oyo of the present line, while Oranmiyan himself was reigning as Oni of Ife. Therefore, Oranmiyan of Ife, the father of Eweka I, the Oba of Benin, was also the father of Ajaka, the first Alafin of Oyo.

Bullpoo.

Such lies

Ile-ife was not established by Oduduwa, ile-ife was an already flourishing nation before Oduduwa arrived.
Archeological findings have proven that Ile-Ife was established over 6000yrs ago.
Oral history of the oldest Yoruba nations have states that ile-ife is their origin.

Oduduwa lived in the 11th century-that's about 1000yrs ago.
It's not a fact that he came from Igodomigodo(former bini).
I have reasons to claim he came from Iwo

Oduduwa is not the one who established Ife, Neither was he the first king. There were over 90kings in ile-ife before Oduduwa

Bini shouldn't be referred to as where Oduduwa came from, because the evidence is not strong enough.
Iwo seems more legit

Oranmiyan reformed Igodomigodo, he changed the politically structure, he displaced the house of Ogiso and made the Ogiso descendants to be chiefs and sword bearers, he changed the name of Igodomigodo to Ile-binu(later called bini", he imposed his son as king of bini becoming the 1st Oba of Bini.
How can bini be the origin of Ife. People should even be saying Ife is Bini's origin, because Oranmiyan established the nation to be stable

rationalmind: These are what I find unreliable in it

1. It is subjective

2. Our forefathers are known to hold on to myths and folktales

3. The human memory cannot really be trusted.

4. It cannot be objectively verified.

These are just a few amongst other reasons I can't think of now.
Lol cheesy so you don't believe wat ur ancestors said about the origin of ur clan and tribe?

Ishilove: I wasn't condemning macof. I want to know why Sango is referred to as a god in Yoruba mythology. You and macof says he is pure energy or electricity, but Yoruba myth says he was a man-god married to Oya and Osun. I want to know why the discrepancy
Sango(the human) was the 3rd Alaafin of Oyo and had 3wives(the names u know)
Alaafin Sango was able to manipulate the Energy responsible for fire(like Billz Great grand father) which he learnt from his mothers city of Tapa. After Sango's craze made him commit suicide his body got missing people started saying he resurrected or actually didn't die but ascended to Ikole-Orun(spiritual realm of the ancestors), hence the name "Sango Olukoso" meaning "Lord Sango didn't hang" . After this, people who didn't believe that "Olukoso" started mocking him saying upon all his might and fire tricks he was disgraced to death. Lightening struck the town and many properties and lives were lost, this made people venerate Sango as the new icon of that force, changing the former names "Jakuta" meaning "fight with stones" or "strike with stones" and "Aramfe"(in some places) to "Sango"

another one is Ogun

Ogun was a strong Blacksmith who was born in Idanre, Ogun would never wear clothes but instead tie palmfronds around his waist as he goes into the bush with his loyal dogs hunting deer and rabbit when ever he returns he would start working in his shop, forging metal equipments for the town.
Ogun usually made lots of sacrifice to
Oguns talent reached many parts of Yorubaland that even Ife people would come to buy equipments from idanre, which made them rich and economically stable.
Another person with the name Ogun existed in Ire-Ekiti, his disciples claimed he didn't die but digged the ground, entered it and disappeared. Much later he was venerated by using him as the personification for the Iron and metal he loved so much.
The former name used for the force of Iron was "Tobelode" meaning "Metal equipment is for Hunters" and "Osin" in some places

rationalmind: What the muslims do and what you did have something in common. RE-INTERPRETATION.

That exactly is the point.
The muslims don't interpret anything, they believe the quran to be very straight.

I am not re-interpreting anything. Go and meet any Babalawo or Olorisa with knowledge of Modern science, he would tell u exactly wat am telling u.

When Sango priest says- Sango oko Oya(Sango the husband of Oya).

It doesn't mean married as how humans marry and live together, it means the forces work together.
Christianity Etc › Re: How Is Religion Not A Form Of Mental Illness At Times? by macof(m): 4:24pm On Dec 15, 2013
rationalmind: And you said you understand islam?

Muslims claim the miraj is a spiritual journey the prophet went through. This spiritual journey is documented in the quran.

Some forces of nature might have also transported mohammed to jerusalem. That is spirituality in the quran
How is this spirituality?
Spirituality is explanatory with use of symbolic representation, this you posted isn't explanatory but just "things happen, we don't know how it happened but Allah did it"
Christianity Etc › Re: How Is Religion Not A Form Of Mental Illness At Times? by macof(m): 4:17pm On Dec 15, 2013
rationalmind: To confirm all I've said so far, macof just said he will try to link another myth with evolution.

That statement alone explains all I've been saying. If let's say for instance, STOFOCATION had been the scientific and biological explanation for how life came to be, macof will still try to find a way to explain one myth to fit into it.
Some posts above you talk of Big crunch.
Now tell me how the Yoruba creation story applies to the big crunch?

The big crunch was flawed, an incorrect theory and that's why a better placed one was excepted.

Going by wat u posted above, you trusted the big crunch theory and that shows u are a puppet to ur scientists. You don't see reason wit any other thing other than modern science....truly Nigerian atheism is a kind of religion.
You don't question ur man resolved theories but question everything else(which u don't know anything about).
How on earth would I use Big crunch to explain Yoruba creation story when the big crunch is flawed?

The reason why I said I would look into Spiritualities to explain Evolution is because I read that fossils of some Neanderthals were found in the Egyptian territory with markings resembling the acts of writing.

If we look into some spiritualities they could be some that told about evolution
Christianity Etc › Re: How Is Religion Not A Form Of Mental Illness At Times? by macof(m): 3:52pm On Dec 15, 2013
rationalmind: I didn't quote their whole explanation as it would be too much for anyone to read. They explained in details how the quran accurately describes the big bang. Here is the link
www.islamreligion.com/articles/1560/

And I didn't say the yoruba and muslim creation story relate. I'm saying you both are trying to fit in a myth into established science. How many times will I repeat this? Let's say folykaze is dumb, must you also be dumb?
The link states
1. We(possibly humans) are the expanders
2. Allah called upon the big bang to be
3. the universe was divided to form heaven and earth
4. Nobody knows how or can explain how the division occurred

How does this explain the big bang theory?
Is this anything like an illustrious explanation to the use of symbolism?

You are really full of hate for everything.
As I said you have a Christianised mentality, so u expect to say a king sitting on a throne in the sky.

Now that u see people explaining wat spirituality(Yoruba) is all about u start freaking out because it totally threatens ur disbelief of Skydaddy.

You have nothing to disbelief on spirituality so u dismiss all explanations.
