But don't you feel this said understanding of nature like herbs for instance which you said were given to us by the gods, were actually knowledge gained via experiences by our ancestors and later passed down generations and not based on the divine intervention of the orisas(gods)? Aren't the gods just a representation of the supernatural (which is nonexistent) and most especially, tradition/culture? I don't believe in the supernatural and gods. lmao. I thought my post would confuse you a bit. . I was right lemme say those ancestors that had the knowledge and shared it were the Gods themselves Historically, at around say 500BC sub saharan africa probably didn't have shrines at all. .. even today some of the oldest african cultures don't have shrines dedicated to Gods eg. dalaman: You forget that the babalawos or ritualist want money as well. It is an enterprise that they are running mostly for money. Forget the fiction you are used to watching in Nigerian movies. They just keep.promoting this ideas and make them look real and acceptable but they are fiction. Non of them has anything to do with reality. The ritualist will call names of prominent people and claim they helped them get rich and famous but it's all lies.
These ritualist function like all these prosperity pastors. They will tell you to sow seed and God will make you rich. Many people go to Sunday week in week out sowing seeds but their lot in life still remains the same. Even when progress comes it doesn't come it as a result of the sowing of seed but they attribute it to the sowing of seeds.
If you want lots of money it's either you work for it legally or illegally or you inherit it from someone, win a lottery or something. Killing your entire village because a ritualist tell you to do so will not make you rich.
White people do not believe in money rituals. They own all the wealth in the world today. We have nothing compared to them despite our money ritual claims. look at how he's saying all this as if he knows what he's talking about what babalawo do you know that has done money ritual? |

dablazor: You're getting this all wrong, about 65% of global atheist population were never for once in their life theist, so where does the disappointment, failure and frustration come in to play when they were never for once theistic? I don't belief in god because there is no proof of his existence, its just a big whole universe, and religion doesn't cut it for me, that's why I seek knowledge anywhere I can find it. Religion is just a lazy way out of the many things we don't know about our planet. Many mysteries on our planet that the ancient men credited to a godly existence has been long discredited by science, and a lot more uncovering is going on, because you don't know how something happened, that doesn't give anyone a right to say a god did it, that's what our forefathers did, and that's why all religions and gods are manmade You are a christian and you believe your god is the one true god, while disbelieving in over a thousand other gods that exist today, what makes yours the true god and others a counterfeit? I hope you get my drift. And as regards your paragraph above claiming atheists who aren't anti-theist are still in doubt about god's existence is a clear cut hogwash, because I decided to let sleeping dogs lie, that doesn't necessary mean I don't think your doctrines are quite comical, we are just tolerant, 'why i entertain the bullocks, that doesn't mean am in doubts or the thought of religions and your theist gods doesn't make me sick inside. Some atheist and anti-theist theist converts might convert based on some petty reason like disappointments and frustrations, but not all converts are that petty. what our forefathers believed is different from Christianity and Islam pls. there were people who devoted their lives to unraveling mysteries of the universe rather than just say "a god did it" take yorubaland for instance. ..the people who made the most contribution to the understanding of a particular aspect of nature were in fact the "Gods" ie. Orisa and I believe it is similar in other parts of sub Saharan africa that is if you understand what I'm saying |

mmsen: Thailand is a monarchy and is mired in political chaos, has been for a few years now. Thailand is notoriously corrupt. People don't respect the monarchy in Thailand, they fear the monarchy because honest discourse about the head of state can lead to a prison term. Anyone found in possession of books critical of the monarchy faces three years in prison: http://timesofsandiego.com/opinion/2015/09/10/american-thai-community-seeks-end-to-monarchys-influence/ There's absolutely nothing wrong about protecting the government. As long as the government promotes national unity, security and there's considerable development or at least maintainance of the general standard of living of the citizens I should also bring to notice that the problem people have with the Thai government is not the Monarchy but the current monarch's support of the Military rule. Most Thais still love their monarchy and there's nothing you can do to change that.... all this is revealed in the link you shared The Monarch has been the person that holds the people together; without him, the people would be lost. Corruption in Thailand: http://time.com/3674200/thailand-tourism-police-corruption-shakedown-extortion/ http://thediplomat.com/2014/10/thai-junta-beset-by-corruption-scandals/ https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/oct/21/thaksin-thailand-corruption You see, here's one thing you do with a monarchy - blame it all on the king because he has influence(if not authority) over everything. 1. the police abuse power against tourists blame the King that doesn't Preside over police affairs 2. the head of the military government is corrupt blame the King that doesn't have the Authority to remove him... not like the Prime minister before Prayuth Chan-ocha was any better. Monarchy indeed is about One man receiving all the complains Brunei hasn't moved forward at all in the past 20 years and they are a monarchy with a small population and large oil reserves but you wouldn't know it if you were there. Where is the evidence of speed of thought an action here? A tiny country such as this should have surged past everyone, including/especially the democratic Singapore. The reality is than the reverse is true. sure one country out of the many monarchies If Brunei isn't doing well, is Denmark poverty striken? isn't Netherlands doing beautifully well? what about Norway? The UK is set to do things without the EU. .. that just means they are more confident about their System of government (with a monarchy) than the likes of Germany and France that don't have monarchies Saudi Arabia is a monarchy with the largest known reserves of oil; the country has huge (yet depleting) financial reserves; is the seat of Islam drawing millions of tourists and billions of dollars from pilgrims. They have barely moved forward as a society since the discovery of their oil reserves and the monarchy has had to struggle to force through simple reforms, such as female's education. In 2016 Saudi women cannot leave their homes unless permitted by a male relative. Women cannot drive. And if you want to talk about corruption and waste you need look no further than the Saudi princes. Saudi also cracks down heavily on 'dissent': http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/the-saudi-monarchys-harsh-crackdown Corruption in Saudi Arabia: http://www.business-anti-corruption.com/country-profiles/middle-east-north-africa/saudi-arabia/snapshot.aspx http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/gulf/sa-corruption.htm
Bahrain isn't corrupt? Why were people protesting in 2011? Why were people being attacked by security forces? Because they love their system of government? Because they feel that their concerns are being listened to? Because the government is progressive? The world knows Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are comfortable and developed Countries Your democratic Nigeria is still struggling as an eternal "Developing" country Northern Nigeria has emirs and yet it is one of the worst places in the world to live. Explain how monarchy has made that society better? Tell me how it has allowed that region to become more progressive? Where is the evidence of the speed of thought and decision making in northern Nigeria? what poo is this?! northern Nigeria is not a monarchy Where is the accountability in monarchies? Most claim to have divined their power from a deity, deities that they cannot prove exist. That in itself is a fraudulent claim so how does one build a system of honesty and integrity on a foundation of lies? If that isn't a trick then what is it? Any leader can claim to be divinely empowered... given the destiny to rule etc it is not exclusive to monarchies infact anybody you subscribes to the philosophy of destiny believes a great leader is divinely empowered; doesn't matter if it's democracy or military or monarchy it's only always so...in fact the only mandate in a theocracy. .. Monarchy is different from theocracy There is nothing to stop them from abusing their power or misusing funds. admittedly so, yet this doesn't out weigh the benefits abuse of power and misuse of funds are recorded in all system of governance Transparency is the answer to corruption, not opaque government. Monarchy is a throwback to a bygone era. look at this one trying to move ahead of time? bygone era! were they not homo sapiens as you are? what nonsense bygone era. . so you just throw something that benefits you away because it has been around for a long time? so foolish! |

mmsen: Please tell me about these benefits of monarchy in the 21st century. 1. There is only one person that will decide, so the decisions are made quickly and there are fewer arguments regarding the new policies to be imposed. 2. Monarchy reduces the heavy amount of expenditures of the nation in the elections and campaigns as there is no need to elect the next ruler; Even in an Elective Monarchy like in Yorubaland 3. The masses have great respect to their king or queen as Head of State than an elected president as he/ she will rule for a term only. This promotes patriotism 4. Countries ruled by a monarch government have less corruption. Rulers know that their leadership is not for a term period, so they have no lust for money. They do not have the intentions to misuse their authority for corruption. 5. there is greater accountability and no blaming the "opposition". The Monarch is less distracted and the people not deceived by political tricks |

How come people left NRI for far away Ogwashi uku, today most of Delta North, speak a language very similar to those of Anambra and Enugu. What happened? If NRI people didn't travel that far, So also Edo never ventured into the eastern part of Nigeria as well. The fact remains that Igboid, Igala, Idomoid, Edoid, Ebira, Nupoid, Yoruboid were all members of one Family group, The Kwa language Family. It is believed that they spread out from the confluence of the Rivers Niger and Benue, probably around the present Ebira areas. Also a fact, is that both Igbo, Edo, Ebira, Igala, Idoma, Yoruba, Nupe etc. borrowed one others culture and also the culture of the ancient people they met at their present locations, The six groups interacted with each other and intermarried. There were migrations, cross migrations, counter migrations, wars, conquests, colonization, resistance, flights for safety, search for farm (ugbo/Igbo) etc. Also all the fairy tales and folklores about the origins of people as those of someone falling from sky and having 7sons as exemplified by Oduduwa and other funny stories are all lies and nowhere in Yoruba itan about oduduwa is that told. |

I cant marry an atheist cause I believe in God and its important to me I marry someone who doesnt just believe in the existence of God but also God fearing because thats the foundation I want my family to be built on and also we get to encourage each other in our faith esp during travails.
I'm sorry about the loss of your brother and I know you feel cause I too ve felt and asked same questions BUT I remembered so many other things ve asked God for that he did even the ones I didnt ask and I knew that God is Mystery, faithful and his ways are not the ways of man. Maybe it was your brother's appointed time and according to christian doctrine each man has it own appointed time and would surely die.. Sometimes we dont need to ask questions, we just need to ve FAITH.
Even when Jesus was on earth there we still hungry and homeless people. To We God has given, we are expected to give and help those who are less privledged just like the Story of Lazarus and the Rich man from the bible. Its God's own way to create a balance amongst his creation IMO.
