olaboy1: Ok let me put it in a more clearer perspective for you. The reason poor people have more kids and engage in polygamy is the idea that children from such unions would help the parents when they become old, something the rich man is less worried about. You need to chill man and stop been agitated online, my reference to Ajegunle had nothing to do with the demography of any ethnicity, it was purely on economic comparison with Lekki, and I have this feeling you just want to argue for the sake of it, because any Lagosian would understand directly the point I was trying to make about Lekki rich folks, and not just once again jump into conclusion that I assume absolutely that all residences of Lekki are rich. Do you always twist people's comments or quick assumption is your forte, because once again I wrote Christianity forbids polygamy and no where did I write the bible forbids polygamy, so don't get all too emotional friend. As far as I know there's no church in Nigeria that would conduct a second marriage for a member whilst still married to someone else, the marriage committee is set up to investigate this. Churches believe marriage is between "a" man and "a" woman. So I still stand on my religious and economic reasons of polygamy. Go ahead and state your reasons if you know any, quit countering mine and stop been stubborn and arugumentative. in that case why hate on polygamy since the man is obviously making a move for a good life for himself at old age? you still haven't brought any case against polygamy or how only the Yoruba nation got tangled into this topic, yet you claim to be Yoruba? you probably are ignorant of northern Nigeria where a 23 year old man is already a father of 3 from 2 wives I see so the bible is no longer the basis of Christianity, it's now what pastor says? I thought as much... you probably don't read your bible just sit in church listening to a man suck you off your money I don't have to state any reason for you, you have a brain just like I do, if you have a problem with polygamy simply don't involve in it but shut your mouth up on other people's business cus you only end up making a fool yourself |

olaboy1: Well to some extent it does have something to do with literacy. Look around you and you will see that poor illiterate people engage in polygamy and also have too many kids in the face of their economic crisis. just compare the average child ratio of Lekki residence and Ajegunle I can understand when igbos accuse us of having more than one wife, and this is not far from the fact that the Yoruba tribe is multi religious compared to the Igbo tribe, and as you all know Islam allows more than one wife with reason, whilst Christianity forbids it. If there are Muslims in the Igbo tribe, then I think they also would have more cases of polygamy. and poor people don't live in Lekki? most residence of ajegunle are non-yorubas. are you new to Lagos? I've never noticed polygamy to be dependent on economic or academic level either, infact rich men with all their exposure and money are the most polygamous yoruba tribe? sir, are you really educated as you claim? cus with all the education you have acquired to know polygamy is bad you still don't know yoruba is not a tribe be deceiving yourself that Christianity forbids polygamy, when you revere Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon. I highly doubt that there's any place in the bible where polygamy is forbidden as you claim, it's only church doctrine. |

I hear this all the time on the site that Yoruba men marry more than one wife. I didn't see this in the neighborhood I grew up, most families had highly or fairly educated parents working in various top government positions. I can't even remember if I had any Yoruba friends back then from polygamous homes. in essence, being polygamous has nothing to do with Ethnicity or Academic level |

.. and yet your women can't get enough of Yoruba men olaboy1: Joisfeko that's untrue. Some ignorant and illiterate Yoruba men may do that, but come on buddie 90% of all educated Yoruba guys would never consider a second wife..haba this na big stereotype o. What I don't understand is Stephanie had a court wedding, and her church needed the certificate to conduct a background check or what. The guy traveled abroad and wanted to keep her in Naija, and in her imagination the guy didn't love her but was into her because of her fame. How can a guy travel abroad to hustle when he is married to a supposed famous actress back home, assuming fame comes with money. what are you saying? all over africa men marry more than one wife so this has nothing to do with education or literacy. 99% yorubas are literate |

kilo4sure: If that is how you look at it, then there is hardly anything that has contributed to science not even philosophy, because the scientific method is based majorly on verifiable experiments, in that case science is in a world of its own, if that is how you want to see it. But l disagree, because science began as philosophy and was actually born from the realm of philosophy. Philosophy itself is not independent as well, it is usually influenced by religion. Philosophy deals with reason, religion deals with both revelation and reason, but science deals with verifiable facts which are objective and have been tested. So we can probably say no religious book has contributed to science directly but some have inspired science through philosophy. you see you are wrong! Science and philosophy have always learned from each other. Philosophy tirelessly draws from scientific discoveries fresh strength, material for broad generalisations, while to the sciences it imparts the world-view and methodology of its universal principles and ideas. The fact that we call it ‘science’ and not ‘philosophy’ is a historical accident and the labels are irrelevant. Newton called his work "Natural Philosophy" and Many scientific discoveries today are worked from the philosophy of ancient cultures especially the Greek and Roman Philosophy as we know it has more in common with modern science than with Religion. ..don't confuse the spirituality of ancient cultures for religion |

freethinker01: Seriously, I had a similar experience precisely a month ago that I even felt like sharing here here but I think this thread has giv'n me the avenue. It happened to my Aunt who had a tumour(late tho') that was diagnosed to be carcinogenic(it was discoverd when she went for her regular check up). The doctor said it was good that it was discovered early so it won't metastasize and she would need to be operated. When she informed her husband, he bluntly and outrightly objected it saying as far as he's alive, no member of his family would undergo sugery(he even boasted of how his wife delivered their second baby normally even when the doctor said the only option she had was a CS) that it's convenant the Lord made with him. He said the God he serves has never failed him. Well, as time went by. The man continued fasting and praying. He even went to the mountains. So also the tumour continued to grow still believein in His Yaweh. Eventually, it was discovered the tumour was malignant and spread drastically within a month. My aunt gave up the ghost last month based on her husband's strong believe in God. Ooh, did I metion he's also a pastor? Everyone that heard of it blamed him for being so stupid and jeopardizing the life of his wife. Now, this is my quetion, as a believer, what exactly did the man do wrong? The man shall be rewarded in heaven for trusting God with the life of his wife. God is more important than a mere human life that he created, it is he that gives and he that takes |

^^^ you cannot separate the bible from Christianity... to talk about the contributions of Christianity to science we must look at the ways the bible served as source of scientific discovery
let's use another analogy. .If I ask "what is the contribution of football to the economy of Nigeria", you shouldn't be giving me the businesses owned by footballers but the way Nigeria gains economically from the game of football what you all have done on this thread is like stating the businesses of footballers instead of details of how Nigeria gains from the sport |

kilo4sure: So when a christian does something wrong, cause war, or persecute scientists, you'll say that it is Christianity that influenced him. But when the Christian does science, explaining that he is out to discover the orderly laws of the universe and hence think God's thoughts after him(according to Romans 1v20), or when he is inspired to build cathedrals for ages or kick start universities, you then turn around to say that it is unchristian of him? The likes of Boyle and Faraday were not just from Christian families, they were evangelists themselves, Newton was a theologian, Kepler believed he was influenced by his faith. What about the monk Mendel, if Christianity was antiscience why should a monk become such a great scientists or the priest George Lemaitre. Even the Jesuits are still commended for their zeal towards education, and how they educated the masses of their time, and the puritans are responsible for many of the great universities and hospitals in the west. Newton specifically said his work was an answer to prayer. So why do you say they are not influenced by Christianity? you still don't get it! when the christians went on a rampage killing the pagans of Europe, they did that screaming Jesus and to the honour of their religion as they pick up from the example of evil characters painted holy like Moses. the only reason these killings existed in the first place was to spread Christianity - there you have the evils of Christianity I can mention more evils of Christianity if you so wish but no scientific movement or theory has been founded on the Bible, unlike the Crusades, Inquisition etc I don't have to know anything about Newton other than what he is famous for - Physics. In all the biographies I've read about him nothing about evangelism was discussed, I remember his love life was discussed, his childhood, his family but not he being an evangelist. ..that means either he wasn't an evangelist or his evangelist activities held no importance to anyone . and he being an evangelist(if he was) will only help your argument if his contributions to physics were gotten from the bible, like his contributions to evangelism would have been gotten from the bible it's very simple really, I don't see why this topic is top difficult for your kind to understand |

Infact the concept of a university was started by the roman catholic church.
Most of the 17th ,18th and 19th century scientists who shaped our modern world were christians.. the greatest scientist of all time was the genuis sir issac newton who laid the foundation for the scientific principles that govern almost everything we use today in the modern world.. He was even supposed to be a priest but opted to go to university but remained celibate his entire life..
These days a lot of scientist identify as atheists but the most Nobel prize winners are jews then christians..
Christianity has shaped our world from the concept of hospitals, charity organizations to how we tell time.. HungerBAD: I mean, this is a good move by the OPC.
The plan of the OPC is to protect, and not destroy their land. The Militants in the Niger Delta, are destroying their own lands, and his is why i support this move by the OPC.
So let us talk about these militants.
The Militants in the West are a product of two worlds. They are from Ondo State, which is in the West. But, they are the Ijaws and the Itsekiri from Ondo State, and these guys are not Yoruba's, but pure Niger Deltans, who by accident of wrongful map drawing, find themselves in the Western part of Nigeria.
A typical example is Oritsefemi the Musician, who is an Itsekiri, but from Ondo State.
So, we can safely say the militants hitting the Western part of Nigeria are actually Westerners, and so the OPC should be ready to fight against their own brothers.
Lastly, kudos goes to the Nigerian Military for the flushing out, bombing and killing of these militants. Fedayeen02: Redraw that map and Ondo will no longer be an oil producing state smh. Itsekiris are more Yoruba than anything, certainly not Ijaw and There are no Itsekiris native to Ondo state The Ilaje own most of the oil in Ondo state I believe the statistics provided about the militants are false... even the Ijaw areas of Ondo state are heavily Yorubanized that they can't possibly be a threat to yorubaland so where are these hundreds of militants camped that the natives don't have access to? I suspect the FG is using the excuse of a few militant presence to attack innocent residence of Yorubaland |
