Brightw278: I was discussing with a friend of mine during one of his visits this past weekend, we talked about politics, football and a whole lot of interesting topics. We were in the middle of discussion when we tuned in into this popular reality tv series on dstv, “finding the one”. So we switched topic
I was trying to explain to him why we have many ladies looking for suitors in Nigeria and the main reason being this harsh economy. I told him no man would want to settle down until he has something to fall onto and has a good job that can sustain a family but my friend thinks otherwise.
He said the reason why some ladies get really old without suitors coming their way is because they must have ignored a lot of guys during their prime (20-28) and once reality set in they become desperate.
I told him I have a sister who is perfectly fine and doing well but good men ain’t just coming her way, but he just wouldn’t agree. I can’t believe people still think this way in this 21st century. He was telling me no matter your looks and all someone must approach you, I had to calm him down what if those coming your way ain’t even somebody you can settle with. Guess his reply? You just have to endure and get married like that.
This a guy went on for some hours before I just decided to call it a quit and told him we should just enjoy our football match.Personally to me I think nobody should be forced into marriage when he /she ain’t ready.
I just want to seek you guys opinion, he will also be on nairaland reading this. Should the sole reason of not being able to find suitors be attributed to youthful exuberance alone? Do girls who find it difficult to find a man must have been to choosy in the past? Your opinions will be highly appreciated
1. The Economy is the main factor that affects, negatively and positively, marriage by age-ready individuals. It is silly for a man who is struggling to feed himself and his parents to think of adding another dependant.
2. Insecurity. There is a silent genocide that is going on in Nigeria that has killed thousands of males. The EndSARS massacre killed largely males. Security officers that are killed in conflicts are largely males. Basically, the male population is reducing. When a land is insecure due to terrorism, males move to other areas (if they are alive). Staying alive becomes more important than getting married.
3. Change of geographical location. Because of these two aforementioned reasons, males will normally change location, to START UP ALL OVER AGAIN. Thus, delaying marriage.
These are the three main reasons. Nigeria and Africa is and will be, largely, a conservative society that values marriage. However, when you have a bad government in power that destroys an economy and enables terrorism, be sure to see a drop in marriage. It is that simple. Unfortunately, people dont like to face reality. These are the real issues.
Insecurity: For example, these two farmers that were killed recently in Plateau State is an example. If they were unmarried, there will be potentially two ladies who will be delayed because of them.
Moreign001: Hello Guys, Good Morning and a Happy Sunday to you all.
I don't know how concise i can be, but I will try.
I just graduated last 3 months, with my girlfriend who's now my ex, and she's 26yrs of age while I'm 28yr.
We started dating from our 200level till yesterday, (that's approximately 4yrs and counting...). We were ideal together, we were well known in school, to an extent where her friends and mine kept asking how? And wishing theirs was like ours..
She promised never to leave, and she please everyday that I should never hurt her. At times we jokingly talked about our future kids which is now a never happening fable.
So after we graduated, she travelled to stay with her aunt, we do check on each other everyday.
Last month.. She called, and said her friend needs an advice, that she and her date just graduated, and that another man is asking her out, and she's thinking of dumping her guy since he's not ready, and that the newly known man is ready to pay for her marriage rites. Immediately I knew she was the one in the story, because I already had several dreams were she left me. I pretended, I told her to tell her friend to "Follow Her Heart".
Last night she called, and said there's something she wants to tell me, I responded, "Is it what I already know?", she asked what? I told her she's getting married soon, and she said yes! I was speechless. I asked her for how long has this been going on, she said it started when she came to stay with her Aunt. We spoke, and I congratulated her, she started crying, I ended the call, sent her a good luck text.
This morning, she called and said she couldn't sleep last night. I asked her why she did it, why she decided to get married, she said she doesn't know. I asked if she likes the guy, she said yes. She couldn't stop crying and was saying I shouldn't leave her, while she's the one leaving me. I was totally down, but I have crazy friends. I WhatsApp a friend, told him what just happened, his words boosted me up. He said, " Support her, we move, no be God leave you". That was enough, but it's hard, really hard to move on without her, and she said the same thing and kept pleading I shouldn't leave her. Now I'm asking, if I was the one who had left, what would have been the story? That I used her and dumped her, because this has always been used against the guys. Why are women in a rush to marry? They don't even add value to themselves, I'm now 80% in agreement that marriage is one of the greatest achievement for a woman, maybe in Nigeria.
8 freaking months. You did nothing. You are blaming the now dead Yoruba girl, your kinsman.
But when Buhari heard a Muslim Hausa girl was held in Saudi Arabia for drug related reasons, he got her out within a week and has even rewarded her with NDLEA federal job. You cant learn from Buhari?
nextstep: There is an amazing amount of religious tolerance in Nigeria. I'm actually surprised we're on this list in the first place. We all accept that we have so many types of religious adherants and sects... the only instance of persecution I can think of is of Shia (Zakzaky's people), under the guise of terrorism; but there's also the persecution of IPOB and Oduduwa folks too, do it's not religious per say.
Anyways, either way, the news will pain some, it will sweet some.
Mylordmygod1: A beautiful afternoon to all nairalanders.
Firstly, my greatest fear when it comes to things of this world is 'women', That's why i don't want to break a womans heart in a way that i will be the one to recieve the blame.
I've been in a relationship with my girl for about 3years now, and each time my mum or friends ask me if i'm gonna marry her, my answer is always a capital letter NO.
Now, my mum is warning me to better let her go since i don't have the interest of marrying her. But the hard part is that i'v been promising this girl that i will marry her even when i'm 100% sure i won't marry her, and i don't no how to go about ending the friendship now.
Recently, i've been picking offences for minor isues, getting angry with her for no reasons, trying to give her signal, but none seems to be working, and its now like my anger is her source of happiness these days.
I really want to end the friendship now, but i want the blame to be on her side and not mine, how can i go about it?
ADVICE ME WELL
Thanks.
I hope you werent sleeping with her or had her do an abortion for you. Because if you have and she strips herself at 2am and swears for you, it WILL happen.
Drella: So I just wanted to make foreign friends and I messaged this polish woman.
At First, she acted like she doesn't know Nigeria. So our tarnished image might be out of it.
Also, after seeing my last message, she didn't block me until about 5 minutes after reading it.
I must confess I'm not good at chatting. Maybe the way I texted her was off. But then, I have an Ukrainian girl I've been chatting with on IG and whatsapp since 2019 with no qualms. Infact, I haven't opened the IG message she sent today.
What then could be the problem?
You have a Ukrainian girl. You want to add a Polish lady to the list. Then who else will you add? A German white blond abi?
Oshey! King Solomon of the white women. Thank God she blocked you.
viceddy95: In other words,he kidnapped her, dragged her to his room then raped her and slept off,the story doesn’t make sense ..
He was drunk and had sex as well- both activities can cause one to be drowsy, very drowsy by releasing melatonin to the brain and body, inducing sleep. Especially if his victim pretended and "slept" as well. It is perfectly possible.
I wanted to start up a POS business with my savings of N65k, but the POS man that i consulted to assist me said i would need at least N150k to start up a POS business.
I've really been hustling everyday, doing hard works (especially on bulding sites), taking pain killer drugs on daily basis..
I don't think it will be easy for me to raised my savings up to that amount 'N150k' with the type of work that i do..
I wanted to travel to the city with my ND (National Diploma) result, so i can use it to look for work, I posted it here on nairaland, but 80% of the advice i got from this forum said it will be hard to see a paying job with ND result, while some said it is not even possible. So i couldn't travel again..
Now that my savings isn't enough to start up a POS business, i'm thinking of starting up a standard akara and akamu business and probably extend the business along the run..
As someone known by his people to have went to school, is the business worth the shame?
There is NO shame in doing what is legal and would pay your bills. Zero shame.
ddippset: Even at the back of 400 Goals, 8 league titles and 4 Ballon dors, a lot of people still said he was finished when he had that 8 Game drought.
But guess what? He came back strong, won the league, won the Pichichi and won another Ballon dor. But they said he was finished!
Now after just 5 games, they have started again. They never learn!
Besides, it doesn't matter even in the slightest way what he achieved at Barca.
A goal drought is a goal drought.
All players do have goal droughts from time to time.
He once had 8 games without a goal at Barca.
It is irresponsible and mischievous for anybody to suggest he has flopped at PSG because he hasn't scored at PSG in ligue 1 for only 4 + games.
By his standards, he has flopped. This is MESSI for goodness sake. Not Djimi Traore. Why are you lowering Messi's standards?
If you get married and your wife hasn't gotten pregnant after only 4 months even after knacking her day and night right from your wedding night and they tell you to go and adopt children because it hasn't worked out,
Will you be happy?
By his extremely world-class standards, it hasnt worked.
Come on, this is Messi we are talking about. This is not Sancho.
Just a side question: How is University of Abuja, "prestigious"? Ranking on Top Universities or on The World Universities Times Higher Education Ranking? Or number of top-tier journal publications published per year? Or Nobel Winners? Why?
Ahmad62: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has become the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history after a phenomenal hat-trick against Manchester United.
The Egyptian was in scintillating form once again as the Reds ran riot at Old Trafford, scoring for the 10th consecutive league game and his 15th goal in just 12 games (in all competitions) this season.
The 29-year-old first set up Naby Keita for the opening goal and played a role in the build-up to Diogo Jota's strike for the second.
With his treble, it means Salah has now scored 107 goals in the top flight, helping him surpass retired Chelsea legend Didier Drogba on 104.
What is more remarkable is that Drogba needed 254 games to rack up his goals total with eight seasons spent in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Salah has featured in only 167 games, with 154 for Liverpool and 13 at Chelsea which produced only two goals.
There remains a chance his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane could join him at the summit, with the Senegalese seven goals back on 100.
But Salah's incredible form, which has seen him net in every game this season aside from the 2-0 win over Burnley, would surely protect his lead for now over Mane.
Salah has already broken several records this season, becoming the quickest player to reach 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool earlier this season.
Drogba didnt have Mane and Firminho playing at his sides. But he still delivered. Drogba slightly edges it.
