BreconHills: He should hold himself responsible.
The stock market can match inflation after all the underlying products are priced to produce a real return.
However it can not address currency risk because that is not the function of the stock market.
If you want to address currency risk He should have bought fx denominated bonds ( for a person of his age/ the father/ whom I guess would be currently in his 60s or early 70's)
This would have addressed currency risk.
It's not the fault of any government. Its simply poor knowledge of diversification. Diversification is not true diversification if it within one market in one country irrespective of how many stocks.
Feel for the dad. We all make mistakes. Hopefully the son will make it up to him. you're right. Portfolio diversification is the safe avenue in investment. He could av invested 200k in real estate, 200 in gold, 200 in shares, 200 in fx, and the last 200 in maybe agro investment. 1m in 2002 is worth 50m today. Well, I don't blame the man. 222Martins: Regulated you say? I can see you live in a fantasy world. Who was regulating them when they received but refused to dispense the newly designed Naira to the populace? But politicians were getting the new notes in bundles and spraying it at parties?
If you think banking and doing business in Nigeria in general is black and white, then you are right? If you believe that there is a grey side for those who seek to know, then you are equally right. that you believed the Emefiele propaganda that the banks were the ones hoarding the new note is amusing. So whr are the new notes now? CBN printed a very small chunk of the new note and you accuse banks of hoarding them. If you have a banker friend, do ask the person what transpired then. Joining the bandwagon isn't a sign of brilliance. |

222Martins: And who are the biggest hoarders of $$$? Politicians? Yahoo boys? Top level civil servants? Wrong!! The biggest hoarders of $$$ are banks. The way banks hoarded the newly designed currency and created artificial scarcity and panic will give you a clue as to what they can do with the $$$.
The second question to ask yourself is this: During the Naira redesign and ensuing Naira scarcity, where did the presidential aspirants and others get the $$$ they shared during the party primaries and general elections? you really know very little about happenings in your country with this your comment. Banks that are well regulated are the ones hoarding dollars, while the unregulated politicians, BDCs are not hoarding dollars. Nawa! |

NuCypher: The greed of the average Nigerian poliitican continues to shine through, even more surprisingly those of LP lawmakers that were supposed to be the defining example for a new democracy. I have no hesitation in saying that, had the outcome of the presidential elections swung Obi's way, we will not have seen a difference. Lawmakers will still award fat salaries and luxurious gifts to themselves, while the sitting president, Obi, watches in compliance. What can he do? Absolutely nothing. The rot is so deep it will take years and years to clean. That's certain, and even an Obi can barely show any determination to clean it.
Nigerian is on an irreparable course to self-destruct based on the current actions of its political class. Evidence of that has already started showing in the short term. In the long term, the result is eventual economic and political tsunamis with no parallel. lawmakers will decide it, but the president will approve or consent. The Obi we know will not approve such rubbish. In as much Nigerians don't want good leadership, we will continue to suffer. You can only genuinely fight corruption when you are free from corruption. Obi we know will reduce to the barest minimum the cost of governance from his own side. The national assembly will align. |

FreeStuffsNG: Only US, Isreal and 12 other countries, mostly tiny weak Island countries; Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Fiji, Guatemala, Hungary, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Tonga , voted against the adoption of the resolution and they lost woefully!
This is a testament to the seriously diminished power and influence of the United States on global politics on this Palestinian-Israel war.
Even the E.U , Canada and UK didn't vote against the resolution. China, Russia, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, the Arab League, Turkiye, Ireland, South Africa and Nigeria tried too. It was a momentous event that the world stood together significantly for the Palestinian people.
Sincerely, Humanity won. Over 3000 Palestinian children killed yet Hamas keeps fighting and firing rockets into Israel, giving credence to the report that Israel is actually killing mostly civilians and children.
If Isreal, with all its military power and backing of US and UK , has been fighting a small group of Hamas fighters for weeks now yet the death toll of children and civilians in Gaza keep mounting and Hamas Rockets firings into Israel have not stopped, so who is Isreal deceiving? Who is Isreal been killing for the past few weeks of bombing Gaza? Hamas still fired a lot of rockets into Southern Israel few hours ago!
If after this resolution, Isreal continues the bombing, there will be very serious and severe consequences against Israel. I pray it doesn't get to that. Check my signature for free stuffs! dey play. |

ElSudani: You are right. Now we have a government who recognizes the problem and is working hard to fix them. The reforms are by no means easy and comes with some initial pains but it will eventually put Nigeria on the right track. what reforms is he implementing for heaven's sake? Is it by removing subsiding in every facet and increasing cost of production the solution. These measures will only kill businesses the more, as their ability to produce will nosedive. I'm a big fan of subsidy as no nation in the world can shy away from it completely. What your Tinubu needs to do is to take fuel price back to whr it was, and encourage Dangote to speed up his refinery. Once we start refining our fuel, we will have enough dollar from external crude sale to meet our demand. Despite the billions Tinubu is claiming to save from subsidy removal, why is he borrowing again? |

Timothy89: Naira continues fall because we are a consuming country than producing country
abeg since discovery of oil what has Nigeria export? discovery of oil make our leaders to be lazy, no innovation, just stay in abuja attend FEC meeting, share allocation then follow months same traits
no agricultural exports, rubbers among others because their reliance on crude oil won't made them think outside of the box
chop make I chop governance how can Nigeria produce when govt policies are killing businesses? This year alone so many businesses have either closed shop or relocated. A nation without stable electricity is increasing price of fuel they have in abundance. That's a business killer. Cost of production will triple, purchasing power will nosedive. Any serious govt in Nigeria will first fix power and refinery before deregulation. |

LikeAking: No solely on imports to earn FX…
They even import more than us..
Apart from fuel imports, our imports is even very small compared to some nations doing very well..
We produce over 95% of the food we eat.
Some nations even import sand and 80% of what they eat..
We also import things other nations import at a considerate number.. (Apart from power generating sets)
The major problem is corruption, miss management and an unregulated importation system..
Also add over demand for foreign services like, education, medically, vacation, etc..
Nigerian that will use one car and TV for 20 years. Wia the money to buy imported goods.. you are so spot on bro. The problem with Nigeria is corruption and pervasive mismanagement. What do we even import sef? A Peter Obi in that govt will fight national corruption to a very low level and things will work. Fashola or Yemi Osinbanjo as president would av done better. Tinubu is naturally known to have a flair for corruption, how is he going to fight what he's a part of? |

As a neutral, I think it's ungainly and unfair to expect everyone to take a particular side.
There are core Muslims that frown at what Hamas did, as there are true Christians and Jews who believe Israel might have taken this too far.
Opinions are the rights of individuals regardless of their positions in society. name any core Muslim that frowned at wat Hamas did. Truth is, Israel aside protecting itself and fighting back, this is a good deterrent against future rubbish from Hamas. Next time dey won't try this. Negotiation is the key to any conflict not war.
