BUHARI WILL REMAIN OUR PRESIDENT, WE STAND WITH A MAN OF HONOR CHARACTER AND INTEGRITY |
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has reserved judgment in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 general election. Chairman of the five-man panel, Justice Mohammed Garba, said the judgment date would be communicated to all parties. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Buhari and APC have asked the tribunal to dismiss the petition by the PDP and Atiku. The parties: INEC and Buhari, made the submissions while making their written addresses yesterday following which the tribunal reserved judgment on the matter. In his submission, INEC’s lead Counsel, Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN), said the commission conducted the February 23, election in “total compliance with the Electoral Act and the petitioners can never dislodge that.” Usman, therefore, asked the panel “to dismiss the petition which was meant to test the river with both legs.” Also, lead Counsel to Buhari, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), asked the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking in evidence, adding that Section 131 of the Nigerian Constitution did not demand certificates to be attached to the documents. Olanipekun said, “And apart from the hype being generated, there is nothing in law that would make your lordships to grant any of the reliefs being sought.” Citing the case of Adeleke vs Adekunle at the Court of Appeal, Olanipekun said the court’s position was that all he (Buhari) needed to do was to have education up to secondary school level. The lawyer said, “They are talking about server, where is that server? That is a $2m question.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/atiku-vs-buhari-tribunal-reserves-judgment.html? President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday commissioned two road projects constructed by the Katsina State Government, despite the light rainfall. This is just as the president verbally queried the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu for failing to provide raincoats to policemen who were on duty during the commissioning. It was at the commissioning of the 22km Fargo-Katsayal-Kwasarawa-Jirdede-Koza road, that the president noticed that policemen on duty were not wearing raincoats, even as it was drizzling, The president then asked the most senior police officer, an AIG at the venue, “why did you leave your men in rain, without raincoats ?” Our correspondent reports that the AIG kept mum. The president now told him that he would raise the issue with the IG. Our correspondent reports that soldiers at the venue were seen in raincoats. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buhari-commissions-two-roads-inside-rain-queries-igp-over-raincoats.html? mynd44 oam4j lalasticla |

Nigerians under the aegis of Young Nigerian Professionals (YNP) have demanded the National Assembly to probe the $16 billion spending on power during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. They also demanded the federal lawmakers to do same to the regime of late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, former President Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, the Chairman of the forum, Charles Olufemi Folayan who was flanked by many others said without probing and bringing those who brought Nigeria down to justice, the country cannot move forward. “With just a year to go before the 2020 target of a 40,000 MW for the country, based on the alleged investment in the proposed power plants, all those who have questions to answer must be brought forward to explain why the power generation target has remained unattainable despite the huge investments. “Considering that this will be a very comprehensive investigation, covering the $16 billion spent by the Obasanjo-led government between 1999 and 2007, the power spending of administrations of Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (late), Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari; we are confident no one will hide under the excuse of being witchhunted. “It is high time that the books are opened, and the way and manner all funds allocated to this sector were spent are made public; while those who are found wanting face the wrath of the law. “We therefore totally support the resolve of the House of Representatives to investigate and uncover those behind the ineffective and corruption – ridden investments in the power sector. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/nigerians-ask-n-assembly-to-probe-objs-16bn-power-spending-others.html?

The oil-producing states are the most indebted across the country despite the huge derivation revenue accruing to them, Daily Trust investigations have shown. The oil states have a total domestic debt stock of N1.25 trillion as at March 2019, according to official data released by the Debts Management Office (DMO). ADVERTISEMENT This is coming at a time figures from the Federal Ministry of Finance revealed that the nine oil states have collectively received N44.68 trillion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) as 13 percent mineral derivation revenue from June 1999 to December 2018. ADVERTISEMENT These figures don’t include the monthly statutory allocations and the revenue internally generated by the states. Based on the provisions of the Constitution, states are entitled to 13 percent of revenues derived from minerals exploited within their borders. As well as receiving the derivation fund on oil produced on their lands, littoral oil states also get the same percentage from oil derived within a certain distance offshore. Six of the states – Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Edo– belong to the oil rich Niger Delta or South South region of the country. The others are Imo and Abia states from the South East and Ondo in the South West. READ MORE https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/oil-states-stuck-in-n1-3trn-debt-trap.html? Lalasticlala oam4j mynd44 |
