VTC actuator issues. It's a factory problem common in some 8th and 9th gen accords.

You could either change it --would be a huge pain in the a**-- or just learn to live with it/ignore it. It doesn't/won't affect anything.

Good luck.

I am also experiencing the same thing oh. Each time i start my 2012 Honda Accord v4 in the morning the engine area rattles or makes a roaring sound. I was hoping they could respond to your plea here. Cc: luvinhubby, Nurey. Kindly assist.
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 5:40pm On Dec 25, 2022
Sorry I'm just seeing this. Change the whole thing. That way, if the fault reoccurs, you can then change the shaft cup. Good luck.

vivalavida:

Exactly. but the vibration is from the passengers side at that speed level you stated and later smoothens out. So what do i change? the full shaft or just the shaft cup?

Does the vibration feel like it's shaking from side to side between 20 and 40 mph but smoothens out afterward?

If yes, it's your shafts --specifically the inner shaft cup on the passenger side and/or driver's side. You should have one or both of them replaced.

You may also want to check the mid-shaft in the passenger side of the car (goes directly into the gear). If it has significant clearance or excessive play, you may want to replace that too.

Also @zarakikenpa

vivalavida:

Alert me when you find a solution. I am facing same issue. I have done everything. It still persists. Have even changed hub. Four mechanics have checked my shaft and tie rod and ball joints and said they are OK. I have done three alignments. Done tyre rotation. Even bought a new tyre for the side I feel the vibration. Still it still happens.

Lol... Be like I go edit that part. I still don't understand the herd mentality, but it is what it is.

Every time I drive that car, particularly on a long journey, it puts a big smile on my face. cheesy grin

@litigator, if you're buying Naija used, make sure you get a well-maintained one. And if it's toks, even better. You'll be glad you did.

Shhhh lipsrsealed

Stop louding it. Let them keep downgrading the vehicle and leave us to be enjoying it at a very low price wink
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 2:17pm On Oct 17, 2022
Lol... It's the Naija-herd mentality I think. People don't appreciate the vehicle is all.

I think they transferred the phobia for the ball joint failure in the pre-2005 accords to the later models.

Yet not once has mine failed even after plying some pretty rough roads.

litigator:

Thanks a million. I am grateful.

Just wondering why the car has low second hand value in Nigeria. Just too low when compared with other brands like Toyota, Lexus, bmw, Audi, volks and benz
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 11:40am On Oct 17, 2022
Pretty good car. Moves smoothly and provides an enjoyable ride Choose the 09/10. '08 has oil burn issues plus a few other kinks.

Also, pay attention to the inner shaft. It has a tendency to become faulty... I don't know if that's just peculiar to mine, but that's been my experience. Some people don't mind the slight vibration before full acceleration but I do. So I'm pretty anal about that.

Oh and the car doesn't tolerate abuse per se. If you commute through bad roads frequently, you WILL visit the mechanic often on account of the arms/legs both at the front and back.

Apart from these, the car's great. Good luck in your purchase

litigator:
Good morning folks. Thank you guys for this wonderful discourse.

I wish to return back to driving and I am considering getting a clean naija used 2008 -2010 accord.

I have a few I want to inspect within this week. What should I look out for? Any checklist?

Also which version is better? 08 to 10 all look the same.

Kindly help me as I don’t want t car that will transform me into an assistant mechanic.

Thanks a million

You can either explain or not. Mechos are known to recommend toks extracted from other vehicles instead of brand new parts -- something about brand new parts being of inferior quality. Some folks don't know the difference. No need to be condescending.

I've noticed an increasing number of 2008 to 2012 Honda Accords on the road. If you own or have driven one, what has driving one been like for you?

By driving experience, I mean handling, road feel, cabin noise --if any, and other experiences with the car.

More importantly, what are the main or common issues you've had or are having with the car? And what did you do to correct them?

Please chime in guys.

Why can't we just maintain infrastructure?

This hasn't even been fully launched (not running on full schedule yet) and we're already having issues. Last time it was vandals. Now, it's fuel. And the queues have basically disappeared in IB.

Why do I smell some sort of sabotage?

This country just finds ways to stress one every day. Smh

I also changed that in the past, plus the vibrations don't feel like they're coming from the passenger side. Feels more like the driver's side. But, thanks for the suggestion. It's given me something to consider too.

Itsrm:

Good. Your problem is not the axles. If you like buy brand new OEM axles, the vibration will return.

It's either your intermediate shaft or from your transmission. The intermediate shaft sits between the passenger side axle and the transmission.

Try replacing it and see how it goes. Note that you will have to change the passenger side axle alongside the intermediate shaft. If that does not solve it, its from your transmission.

I have attached a picture of the IM shaft.

All the best
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by markpenk: 11:10am On Mar 02, 2022
Yes it was initially smooth. The vibrations returned 2-3 weeks later

Itsrm:

I can only give you the solution for 1 but I need more info. After you replaced the cv axles, was the acceleration smooth then the vibration returned later or you didn't see any difference at all

Oh wow... I appreciate this. Wish I was in lag, I'd have brought the car to your place. Thank you once again.

GAZZUZZ:

Sadly you.might have to do everything you have done before again.

CV axle replace with brand new pair (complete)

Fuel pump replace assy (complete)

Rotors all 4 replace with brand new original

Struts check and replace defective pair with original

Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by markpenk: 10:57am On Feb 28, 2022
Good morning. I have an 09 accord that's been stressing me out. It does the following:

1. Vibrates/shakes during acceleration --usually between 20&40kmph. Runs smoothly after the 40kmph mark. Please note: I've changed the cv axles for both driver and passenger sides and replaced engine mounts.

2. Struggles to start during the first try in the morning. Sometimes it doesn't particularly if I haven't driven it in 2 days. But it typically starts on the second try and starts smoothly afterwards throughout the day. Please note: I already changed the fuel pump 2x (second be time after buying bad fuel from an nnpc station)

3. Has significant vibration when I depress the brakes. Please note: I already replaced brake discs (both discs at the front) a while ago

4. Car feels like the tires are bouncing when I'm driving. All tires are gauged (225/65/16) to 35 psi. I've had vulcanizers look at the tires and they're in good condition --no uneven wear

Can you cartalk gurus pls help with the diagnosis? I'd really appreciate it.

Politics / Re: Bad Fuel Sold At Petrol Stations In Lagos (Pictures) by markpenk: 5:28pm On Feb 08, 2022
Exactly! Honestly, if I'd known, I'd have just drained the fuel and emptied the tank. But I just changed the fuel pump and it ran properly.

Then, bought some more fuel in the hopes that it would dilute the concentration of the bad fuel (in hindsight, not sure if that was a smart decision angry )

Sadly, the vehicle still struggles to start --takes a while to crank or starts on the second try. cry embarassed. So, I'll just use it like that until the tank is almost empty, then get my mechanic to drain the tank and sort out the fuel system.

However, if our resident automotive engr @Gazzuzz can chime in on what to do, that would be great.

I noticed same as well, engine goes off while in motion. What do you advise in this situation

Politics / Re: Bad Fuel Sold At Petrol Stations In Lagos (Pictures) by markpenk: 5:08pm On Feb 08, 2022
Yes, the bad fuel is in Ibadan. Bought some last week at an nnpc station and had to change the car's fuel pump on Saturday -- that was when I saw that I'd bought bad fuel (looked like it had been mixed with water, but it still mixed when shaken). And even after changing the pump, the car still struggles to start --no alternator or battery issues as far as I know.

@Egunmogaji2 if your bike has been going off while riding or feels like it's jerking, chances are you bought the bad fuel. My car did the same thing last week.

P.S: Where did you buy the fuel? Mine was from an nnpc station along Akala express if you're familiar with the area. Might save some other person from making the same mistake.

Good evening... Does anyone know the price of toks Honda Accord 2009 engine mounts.

I'm also considering changing the steering rack and pump. So it'll be great if I can get an estimate for those too (toks too)

Also, quick question: can bad engine mounts cause the car to vibrate upon acceleration and deceleration? Please note i already changed cv axles and brake discs. Thanks

This will not cause vibration and you can actually ignore it.
