Foreign Affairs / Re: Why We Stopped Buying Nigeria’s Oil, By White House by markpenk: 2:07pm On Dec 27, 2014
The reasons are pretty obvious for anyone who has been listening to the news and actively following global events:

1. America refused to sell high grade military weapons to Nigeria because somehow the weapons would inevitably end up in the arms of the terrorists. And as far as the US is concerned, it makes sense to distance themselves from Nigeria seeing as it would only be a matter of time before the world identified the weapons used in killing innocent Nigerians as being from the US.

2. The statement that the US ramped up its crude oil production is basically politic-speak. They had to distance themselves from the country because "we're simply bad business". This explains why they upped their crude oil order with other OPEC nations.

Anyone with eyes can see that this is clearly the case.

What can the country do to recover from the current naira slump and possible economic collapse?

1. Actively seek out other buyer nations and offer them a better deal.

2. Apply palliative measures such as shoring up the value of the naira while looking for a permanent solution (see my points 1 and 4). This could mean the CBN releasing more foreign exchange into the economy and allowing a freer forex trading environment as against the panic-mode policy/decree in place now. The naira might take a hit in the short term, but will most surely rebound i the medium and long term -again, 6-12 months. Of course, this would be an agreement with the govt in the form of a "loan" that the govt will repay within the 6-12 months required to fix the refineries and have them working at full capacity. This can be the done, the resources are available and adequate.

3. Divest from just the crude oil sector and actively invest in other high revenue sectors. We're currently not exporting anything else. if we could work really hard on IT infrastructure for example, we could become the next major outsourcing country as against the "sub-sub-outsourcing" that we do right now. Airtel and MTN call centers anyone?

4. Build/repair our own refineries and start exporting refined crude oil. This will be the best step we could ever take, and can be executed within six to twelve months if the government throws everything they've got at it.

That's pretty much it. Nigeria's issues aren't that difficult to fix. In fact, this might be the best thing to happen to us since '73. Now, we can actually get to work and grow our economy.

Bruv... no deeper words have been spoken on NL's Romance section. You are so on point. Would give you a million likes if I could.

Hmmm...

It happens all the time.

You meet a girl you like.

Relationship develops.

Then you meet the sister.

A younger, fresher version of your girlfriend.

And livelier to booth.

And here you are wondering, "Am I short-changing myself?"

Let me assure you, that lively sister has nothing to offer you.

It all becomes empty once you've satisfied that urge.

So, don't make that leap.

Stick with the stability that your girlfriend represents.

Not impressed at all.

Whenever I see a Lamborghini Veneno, Aventador, Sesto Elemento, Porsche 918 Spyder or McLaren MP4 12 on the streets of Nigeria, then I would take y'all seriously.

Though I have seen a picture of a Bugatti Veyron in Lagos here on Nairaland which I may say is quite impressive.

Anita Osariemen Omonuwa from Edo-state has achieved a feat that has never been attained in the 122 years of existence of UK institution, University of Reading. She graduated with a First Class degree in Law from the university which is among the top rated universities in the world.

She was among the students who got the “Chancellors Award” by the Chancellor of the University, Sir John Madejski, who happens to be the founder of AutoTrader and Chairman of Reading Football Club.

She actually graduated from Reading in 2012 but just finished from the Nigerian Law School.

She graduated from the Nigerian Law School last month with a first class again and has also emerged as the very first Nigerian to graduate in the Bar final examinations from overseas with a First Class, Bachelor of Laws degree ever since the Nigerian Law school was established 51 years ago.

Anita is actually learning from her father, Mr. Omoruyi Augustine Omonuwa, OFR who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

@ webtech, I may be interested. Just have a few questions:

1. What's the battery duration like? Looking for something that lasts between 3-5 hours.

3. Any issues I need to know about?

You fall for that? I got the message but I don't dial any code MTN gives me. The only code I dial on MTN network is *556#. Or *555* when I want to load.

Try migrating to another plan to see if that will cancel the current plan.

Phones / MTN Surprise Call Rate Is A Rip Off by markpenk: 9:02am On Nov 19, 2014
So, I was jejely using my MTN zone yesterday when I received the dial *507# message to get 5x your recharge. Without thinking about it -I should have seeing as I know MTN is made up of corporate thieves intent on fleecing the unsuspecting public- I opted in and got the message that my limit is #300 (how much I need to spend daily to qualify).

Now, this in itself wasn't bad. I figured it was alright, MTN making sense things... who knew I was going to regret that statement very shortly. So, I made a call and barely 12 minutes later heard the "one minute remaining" warning. I was like what the hell? You can imagine my SURPRISE when I checked my balance -which was at least #500 before I started making the call- and found that I had less than #40.

I called their customer care to file a complaint and ask how to go about deactivating the surprise package, and guess what? THERE WAS/IS NO DEACTIVATION CODE AS OF THIS MOMENT. What their customer care guys do is pretend to forward your complaints to their engineers and tell you that it's done. If you call after that, you'll still be surprised grin.

Now my question is this: why the exorbitant call rates (we're talking about #40 per minute)? Why would you roll out a plan and not have a deactivation code ready? There must be some shady intention behind this -something along the lines of "pretend we're working on it while millions of people make calls and we rip them off". It goes to show that these guys are crooks in suits.

MTN's surprise is really a SURPRISE guys. If you haven't opted in, I beg you, don't! As for me, I'm dumping that line until this madness stops. I'm sure their big wigs are in their various offices with their feet up the table laughing their a-s-s-e-s off at our naivete. In their minds now, we're all mugus. Far as I'm concerned, their new tag is "MTN.... fleecing you everywhere you go".

Lol... See what i mean? Like I said earlier, you, my friend are honestly slow, dimwitted, uncivilized and crass. Translation: Uneducated (Dont come and brag that you went to school o, I didnt use the word "illiterate" tongue. Had to clear that up so there's no confusion. Would understand if you did use one in place of the other though grin).

That said, If you're seriously asking me to dissect that incomprehensible jargon-filled post of yours and answer all those ridiculous questions, you must be dumber than I thought you were. You must think we all have time for crap like that.

Damn, this dude needs some schooling. Who said anything about "CURSE"? I said CUSS. Let me break that down for you. It means "to use offensive words when you speak". Not curse as in epe... Lol grin. #dumbass.

Dude I honestly do not have time to answer your questions -most of which are pointless by the way. But when you come to a public forum and pour your filthy vitriol, you better be ready for anyone to take you on regardless of who you are or whomever your post is directed at.

Talking about failures, underachievers (it's one word by the way tongue), joblessness and poverty, pray tell, who would read your post and believe that you don't belong in that category? After all, you seem to be very familiar with those words grin and use them a lot.

Dude... Go get a job and stop forming here joor. #frustratedjoblessnincompoop.

sealit:

First of all, I did not address you.

Secondly, if you have any problem with my initial post, be bold enough to quote it instead of hyperventilating and making ridiculous assumptions.

Thirdly, can you kindly point out where I (cursed) or insulted anyone?

Fourthly, can you expound on why you feel that my questions were condescending?

Fifthly, it is obvious that you did not comprehend my submission if you are insinuating that I ever suggested that scammers and fraudsters should not be exposed.

Additionally, why do I have a feeling that you are the same person as the OP?

Lastly, what evidence based fact (s) do you have that the accused Employer is fraudulent?

Your post exemplifies the reasons why some Nigerian youths are under achievers and find themselves in perpetual joblessness and poverty.

You engage in Ad Hominem attacks instead of identifying your weaknesses.

You blame everyone else for your failure (s) in life instead of addressing your shortcomings

It bothers me how people can be literally dimwitted. I don't understand how his response was silly. He was trying to be respectful, professional and tactful -this in spite of your blatant rudeness, crass railing and vituperations I might add. Yet, all you saw was "silliness"? SMH...

In fact, I read your initial response and there was NOTHING enlightening or coherent about it. All you did was cuss, insult, make derogatory remarks and ask condescending questions.

Your thoughts were all over the place. I'm betting you were feeling cool with yourself after writing that junk ba? SMH. Yet, lummyguy answered you with deference.

This tells me one thing and one thing only: You, my friend lack class, comprehension and civility. I truly feel sorry for your employees - if you have any.

@lummyguy, you have done well. Exposing scammers and fraudsters is a responsibility we all have -former employer or not. It is your duty as a law abiding citizen to report and expose all fraudulent activities. Keep the flag flying my friend.

Good luck in your new venture.. And please remember to bring in only quality items o grin cheesy. Just kidding. cheesy

sealit:

Sorry but your response is a bit silly.

You want to have a private discussion with me but you have publicly named your employer.

It does not make any sense.

You need to understand that these kids are the face of the company, they are the street kids selling to the real people, they are the ones meeting targets and they also bearing the embarrassment of selling substandard products. I think True rebel should be less greedy in starting his business if not he will definitely be working against the success of his company. A good businessman will always want to keep his customers happy as he is also looking for new ones, stories from this place shows that he is doing the opposite. If he continues to be greedy like this, his market will soon get saturated as he is having negative PR from unsatisfied customers and on the social media.
