Funny, is true. I used to be very insultive until I got to the Uk. These guys are extremely polite whether they talking to a man or a woman. Their heart may not be good towards you but they hardly ever insult you. NB: Americans are also very insultive and impolite! |
Nigerians, no retreat, no surrender. We must show our so-call leaders that they are our servants and not lords. ALUTA CONTINUA!I bet u were never out to protest. Internet Aluta! |
Labour should tell the details of the Negotiation. |
God! Who is that Hausa radio presenter! She is so daft! Can even understand simple question from Mary. |
I am beginning to like this lasinoh guy. Funny, u make a lot of economic sense |
NLC have loss good reasoning. Only trying to please the people so that one day they would be voted as governors. Funny, Nigeria wont be existed by then. Greedy folks deceiving the people |
Nigerians don't read. Simple. The best part of civilization is listening and logicality. Unfortunately, many Nigerians lack these. 1. Who is govt? It is not you and me? You only persecute people on evidence beyond reasonable doubt. If all the their documents are complete, how wud they be persecuted? Everyone is bride. the directors, cleaner, police and SSS. People pray to work there hoping to get bride 2. Govt didnt say they would provide jobs by removing subsidy. The environment would be ripe for investment by private individual and companies. This shud be most important to you. |
Easier to say while you live in the UK abi?It not about being in the UK. Is about our sacrifice to our nation for ourselves. GEJ can survives his tenure without removing subsidies and get a pat on his back. Let me tell you, Any increase of fuel price with N1 will change the cost of Goods in the market. That is Nigeians for you. Always taking advantage and clad with greed. So why not faceit once to stimulate the economy. |
It beats my imagination how people are making joke of such brillant article by referring to GEJ's shoes. We have a chance to clean the oil sector of sham and shame but we so concerned about our immediate needs. Such a selfish Nigerians. Yet you want jobs. This is a chance to have more than 10 oil refineries in Nigeria as importation will so much look unattractive. Right now, we are building industrial growth for other countries. Govt subsidizes production not consumption! Nigeria will go down. Just look at debt! |
Brightly coloured pants are a BIG NO to an everday man. You'd go scout free if you were a musician or a celebrity of sort. Coloured shorts are exceptable. So you may as well done that. Its all down to nature: bad guys display those 'daring' traits that indicate 'capabilities' hence girls are drawn to them. This is the answer to ur search! |
Uduaghan has been singing about these buses since last year. It's always been 'marco polo buses will be commissioned in the coming months' since February last year, i'm shocked to hear they are 18 seater buses (except perhaps it was the error of the reporter) and the much hyped marco polo buses are still on the way.I bet that isn't 18 seater buses. It is a typo. A typo that is expensive at this time. Those buses are well over 54 seaters. It seems that nothing Govt will do will elicit sense from the public yet we want a better economic. Many go to sabotage Govt's effort. Govt is corrupt no doubt buy common Nigerian are worse. @ ip philips. Why are you ranting. You dont know what sanusi have saved you. I didnt like him initially because I used to work with a bank. Common, that man is much too intelligent for you to slander him that way. We must display good judgement to realistical issues and change our adamant view to superior argument. Do you think your country has money. 10 good universities in the US put together make more money than Nigeria. How would you have money when no one thinks of any other business than importing fuel and selling fuel |
@ Kobo. Mexico is not better off than Nigeria in terms of the subsidy policy they both tow. Nigeria is corrupt so is Mexico. They do have better production than us and also prouction of crude oil/head is way way way larger than Nigeria. Yet they are still condenm for this obnoxious policy of subsidy because jobs are drying up everyday in their oil industries and even local production is going down. see below link: http://www.banderasnews.com/0805/edat-mexgamble.htm Mexico Takes Economic Gamble to Keep Fuel Cheap Michael O'Boyle & Noel Randewich - Reuters go to original Thousands of Mexicans took to the streets of Mexico City late last month to protest an oil reform bill they say would lead to the privatization of the country's state-run oil company. Led by opposition lawmaker Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the demonstrators expressed their displeasure with plans to look for private capital to help fund the expansion of Pemex, Mexico's national oil company. (Real News Network) Mexico City - A $19 billion fuel subsidy, meant to shield Mexicans from spiraling world oil prices, could swallow a chunk of Mexico's precious crude oil export windfall revenue this year, and may only delay an inflation spike. The subsidy, which means Mexicans are paying $1.40 less for a gallon of gasoline than U.S. motorists, was trumpeted by President Felipe Calderon this week as one of a package of measures to curb surging inflation. The Mexican government has long subsidized gasoline, along with diesel and cooking gas, but this year the program could cost four times as much as in 2007, after a leap in the cost of the gasoline Mexico imports to cover a refining shortfall. Mexico, via state monopoly Pemex, is the world's No. 6 oil producer and a top supplier of crude oil to the United States. But critics say the government is squandering profits from high crude prices just when it should be spending them on projects like roads, schools, refineries and oil platforms -- all things that would boost economic growth. The money earmarked for fuel subsidies this year is more than what Mexico spends annually on education. Wall Street analysts would also like to see Mexico reinvest more of its oil profits in exploration to reverse a decline in oil reserves and bolster sagging production. A dip in Mexico's oil exports is already putting pressure on the federal budget. "The consumer's happiness today will come at the extraordinary price of lower proven oil reserves and lower oil production and fiscal income in the future," Goldman Sachs economist Paulo Leme wrote in a report this week. The government's years-old practice of subsidizing gasoline has left Mexicans cushioned from surging prices. Drivers in the United States are paying nearly $4 a gallon for gasoline, compared to $2.61 a gallon in Mexico. "I've been filling my tank here in Mexico for the past three weeks. I save a few dollars," said Texas resident Joel Lopez, standing by his pickup truck at a Pemex service station in Nuevo Laredo, just across from the U.S. border. Mexican motorists may be happy, but the ballooning fuel subsidy will only be effective at controlling inflation if the current spike in oil prices proves temporary, said BBVA economist Fernando Gonzalez. "If international prices don't come down, we'll have to seriously evaluate this policy," Gonzalez said. UNSUSTAINABLE SUBSIDY Mexico, which imports 40 percent of its gasoline, has for years subsidized prices at the pump by paying Pemex the difference between pump prices and what it pays for imports. At the same time, the government typically fixes an unrealistically low oil export price in its budget, then sinks most above-forecast revenues into infrastructure. It set an oil price of $49 per barrel for 2008, but Mexican oil is now selling at a heady $110, implying a fat windfall. Yet much of that windfall is being gobbled up by the fuel subsidy. State income from Pemex fell some $800 million short of budget forecasts in the first quarter due to lower oil export volumes, a strong peso, and higher subsidy costs, Deputy Finance Minister Alejandro Werner said this week. "Sooner or later this subsidy will become unsustainable," veteran columnist Sergio Sarmiento wrote in the daily Reforma. He accused Calderon of pandering to voters ahead of a mid-term Congressional election next year. Calderon is pushing hard for an oil sector overhaul that could enable the private sector to invest more in Mexico and build new refineries, easing Mexico's dependence on costly imports and allaying the need to subsidize fuel. But opposition parties oppose loosening barriers to private participation and want to water down the reform proposal. Meanwhile, Mexican inflation is at a three-year high of 4.83 percent, pushed up by skyrocketing world prices for oil and staple foods as demand from developing nations grows. Economists who see no near end to high oil prices say Mexico cannot afford to pour oil dollars into fuel subsidies indefinitely, and is only postponing inflationary pressure. "The longer it waits, the harder and more costly it will be," Leme at Goldman Sachs wrote. I don't believe this to be true. Nothing stops companies from currently investing in Nigerian refineries, even with subsidy intact. There are so many examples of other countries with similar subsidy programs that do not lack investors in refineries.Nigeria is so complex Kobo. Do you know the amount of courage this has taken from GEJ? No Nigerian trust Govt policies let alone an investor be it local or international firm. $4billion dollars alone is needed to process 200,000barrel/day consumption and Nigerians consumes over 35million barrel/day( We all know this consumption is not real but your Govt pays for it). So who would give it hard earned cash for this? Can you? when there is an attractive option to just seat at home and import with huge benefit! In Mexico, Govt is trusted and there is hardly any change in govt policies once drafted. So there is confidence to invest. |
@ Seyi42K, That is good policy by China's Govt. Note here they are trying to subsidize production. This allow for china's industrial growth and more jobs. On the contrary, we are subsiding consumption which help to grow other countries' economies since we demand more and more everyday. No one can ever invest in refinery in Nigeria the way it is now. But with complete subsidy removal, over 20 refineries would possibly come in.This is about jobs creation |
Am I to believe that, once again, rather than negotiating with ALL groups out there that comprise the Nigerian people, the Government has instead chosen to only negotiate this with the NLC?Apart from NLC/TUC, there are other organised civil society. This is call representation. Oh! Everyone can't be there. |
^^^ How? You are joking! rite? Even his best friends are. Those dining with him are. You can never take the path GEJ is taking. He is a betrayal to his clique and you also crucify him. This man is a good man. He is a Nigeria Hero. |
Beaf, you are one of the most sensible guys on this forum, in fact, in Nigeria as a whole. You stand for the betterment of this country. I just laugh when I hear dudes say build 6 refineries, build that as if they have given their president Money. Read my lip. Your country is broke because all you depend on is oil and its gains are diverted by a few unrepenting Nigerian and even Foreign Companies you have shown naija way in the name of subsidy. Your economy can never be stimulated without COMPLETE removal of subsidy. As is it, the size of Government is too large to cater for and GEJ cannot do anything about that because their are many interests. Everyone wants to be represented! But the people can! occupy nigeria for National assembly cut. Dont go home until their is constitution review on the number of senators and honourable are reduced by constitution. It is easy for GEJ to follow the path of past leaders and be extremely rich as they were. He refused to. Pity y'all are having kicks insulting him |
Good. Its either is 65 naira or complete removal of subsidy. Any increase in pump price is to the detriment of the masses in terms of inflation. I actually support complete removal of subsidy while we thighten our bet Then we all have a say in governance by way of protest if anything goes wrong |
^^^ So it is very difficult for you to accept opposing views. You want every one else to support your thinking and course? Sorry, I beg to differ. Am not rich too. Just an ordinary Nigerian like you. You would never understand how money are siphoned because of subsidy. Do you think it is up to N400billion that should go for subsidy? But I tell you few people are ripping the country of over I trillion naira. Your Govt cant do nothing. It is not abt GEJ. None has ever done nothing about it rather they join them. Gej do not want to join them! If you were there, these guys would either compromise you or sack you if you dont play ball. If you want investment in other sector and diversified economy. Support his course and tell your transporter to be fair to themselves. |
Gbewe, what are you saying. I think we saying same stuff. Considering the complex nature of Nigeria. There is no way corruption could be eliminated from the sector without complete removal of subsidy weather Government negotiate directly or not from producers of the refined fuel. Nigerians workers wud always compromise. Jonathan wouldn't go and oversee their work everyday. Importantly, With subsidy in place, no one dare dream of building private refinery! But with its removal, oil market will thrive and there would be more employment opportunities. This has to be complete removal. BTW, do you know how much of our oil that goes to neigboring countries? We virtually subdidize oil price for more than four countries. |
i dont just understand some people o!Mikuz. You are looking at the surface. Without complete subsidy removal, Nigeria will never grow. Ever wonder why wealthy folks do not go into agriculture, solid mineral and building of industries. Because petrol get you cheap profits. My only problem was that GEJ could have fixed road and power. But I tell you, no money again except for salary paying. And Nigerians are very wicked to themselves, fuel has been double and a bus driver increases price from N50 to N100- N200 like fuel is all that count in transport operations. Mscheeew |
There isnt any money to work it. That is why GEJ is adamant. Except you guys want to continuw with what is was before. This is the best act any President could undertake. I only wish He gave Nigerians power before this. |
Nike Wetin I do you now? |

I am currently studying a PhD in Oxford University and there are so many educated people they aren't successful. It could help you to be smart but there are smart people education or no education. Do you think uneducated people earn peanut in the US like in Nigeria. The income gap is small. The richest people are the business minded people. Importantly, go into the field that interest you and live your life. Just do whatever you are doing very well. |
