This is the problem I have with god, prayers and all these religious brouhaha. . .Suppose there is a drought in a land and the people who are mostly farmers that rely on their yield for survival pray to god for rain and it rains a few days after they gathered and prayed, our happy farmers will thank god for blessing them with rain and answering their prayers, suppose it didn't rain after they gathered and prayed, and famine breaks out as a result of the drought, the same farmers will still find excuses as to why god did not answer their prayers. .They will say and do anything to excuse their god for not answering their prayers. . .They will throw blames around but will never blame this god of theirs. . .So the god hypothesis does not do any work in reality. . .It means nothing, people are just emotionally attached to their beliefs and will find and make up what ever reason or explanation to excuse their god and lay the blame somewhere or on something else. . Saw some documentary some years ago on CBN where a woman was blaming the failure of her daughter's blood cancer treatment on her smoking habit. . .if only she stopped smoking god will heal her daughter she thought. . .that is how far and crazy people will go to excuse this god of theirs that does nothing all of the time. ..Prayer does not work or have any effect anywhere, that is why there is no evidence what so ever to show that those who pray are better than those who do not pray in any way. . .There is no evidence what so ever to show that those who pray to their god for protection for example are better protected than those who do not pray. . .Harm and misfortune affects us all regardless of whether we pray or not. . .

alexleo: Come to my church and you will see thousands of people who dont go to hospital or seek medication. They rely in prayer and get healed. My parents are living witnesses of this too. My parents have been in our church for over fifty years and they have been living their lives relying on prayers alone for their healing and its been working for them. They are alive and still strong and above seventy years so dont talk as if James 5;14 does not work. My sisters too dont go to hospital. I ve not gone to hospital for treatment, its a few times that i get sick and take drugs in recent times. Ordinarily i rely on prayers(as my parents taught me) alone and i dont condemn those who go to hospital. its not a sin. The story of the good samaritan tells you that medication is not against God's will. If it is, then Jesus wouldnt have commended the man.

Forget all these things you are saying, we are all Nigerians and we all know the REALITY of what is happening in Nigeria. . .I have seen friends, relatives of friends, neighbors who were christians lose their lives after going to chruch to be prayed upon by elders. . .Some of them were too poor to go to the hospital, so once they fell sick the church was the only place they could go to. . .Most ended up dead. . .You can pray and take medication and get well. . .You can not rely on prayer alone and get well when suffering from a terminal disease. . . .

davidylan: and the endless back and forth atheists (who claim there is no God) engage in on a religious section says what about them? their insecurities? If religion is a man-made idea then why are you here?

And you have seen atheist arguing and calling each other names over the lack of belief in god when?. . .Christians disagree, argue and call each other names all the time here on nairaland,that is if they are not arguing with atheist or with muslims many even condemn each other to hell for holding different or contradictory beliefs. .

Scientists are not being sincere with the true age of the earth. The earth is observed to be loosing its gravitational pull progressively over time and if this is the case then if we were to go back in time, billions of years when the earth was formed the gravitational pull of the earth would have been so strong that it would not have sustained the primitive life forms that evolutionary scientists claim started the life on earth.

The earth's spin on its axis is also waning over time and if were to go back into time billions of years logically we would have an earth with a spin that is capable of generating wind speeds of up to 500miles/hr. Wind speeds of this kind would have resulted in very turbulent and chaotic earth.

The evidence on ground contradicts the theory that the earth is billions of years old.

Men are being "feminised" as well. No need anymore to play the strong dependable man, riding on a white horse to save the lady from a dragon. That's sexist. Now the lady is the one who saves herself while the men applaud her for being independent and able to make her own choices.
Gone are the days when men were ashamed to admit their wives were the breadwinners of the family. Now its a thing of pride for a man to fold his legs and proudly state his wife is running the financial affairs of the home, after all, there is equality in the family, no captain no head. Its a TEAM effort and anybody can play any role.

The bitter truth is, no man can take care of a child as well as a woman. Women are naturally endowed to cater for and nourish children both physically and emotionally. The man brings in the discipline and hardiness necessary for the child to grow and survive in a harsh society, the woman brings in the love and softness needed to keep the child decent, sane and human . but now women don't have time to do this and (most?)men know next to nothing about taking care of the kids.

The family unit is under serious threat due to this current trend in role reversal in the name of equality and people will keep painting the problem over to meet their own selfish needs.

Personally I think its all part of the divine plan. Things will deteriorate further and there will be absolute chaos. Then peace will come.
