OP what you need to know is that all religions and gods are all man made that is why there are many different gods and many different religions. . .God is just a human concept, a human idea and perception. . .Its not as if gods exist in reality, it is the ideas that exist not the gods themselves. . .Stop basing your existence on STORIES written by unknown Jews and Romans. . .Hope you know that the bible you are using as your basis for god is written mostly by unknown authors?. . . .Same with the koran and other religious text. . .They indoctrinate us with all these things since we are babies and use the fear card to keep us in line. . .They tell us we are very special and in for many goodies for accepting their fiction and mythology, they condemn others that do not accept these stories, others who have invented their own stories, fiction and mythology. . .Muslims and christians for example both believe in this god idea, but the muslims TRULY believs that the christians are misguided, on the wrong path and will end up in hell for eternity for refusing to accept allah and mohammed his messenger. . .So belief in god does not even matter at all, according to them you need the right god, but which is the right god when all gods are just man made ideas?. . . .Stop using stories written by unknown men as the basis of your existence. . .

As to why people believe, i'll say it's because I think it's more that people prefer simple answers, particularly ones that play to their fears and other biases. Most religions teach that humanity is the special snowflake of creation. . .

I think religion's continued success is in part an acknowledgement of what people have observed since we began asking questions, but the reality is that the universe as a whole does not care about us. That's a pretty scary, bleak truth for a lot of folks to swallow, they prefer stories where humans have a special purpose from the creator of all things, so they invent and make up stories to placate their minds.
