I have noticed that it isn't universally agreed upon by mathematicians if zero is a natural number or not. It was a surprise to me actually, since math is supposed to be precise and hence universal. This makes me wonder what the criteria for determining a natural number is. Is it that mathematicians do not agree on this criteria? Natural numbers as much as I know, refer to normal counting numbers e.g. 1,2,3,4... but some people introduce zero to make the set of natural numbers 0,1,2,3... So, which school of thought do you belong to and why? I'm guessing this is a very unusual thread. Math gurus, geeks, nerds, math lovers in general, your attention is needed here. Would love to read your contributions. |
My surname was misspelt. I hope that's not a big problem. Those who are getting the "no record found" response, the problem could also be from your surname. A letter was omitted from mine. Hope this helps. |

Ezekiel 4:9-15 9 Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof. 10 And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day: from time to time shalt thou eat it. 11 Thou shalt drink also water by measure, the sixth part of an hin: from time to time shalt thou drink. 12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight 13 And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them. 14 Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth. 15 Then he said unto me, Lo, I have given thee cow's dung for man's dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith. |
johnydon22:Funny enough, the Jewish God who is supposed to be the quintessence of goodness isn't even as good as the average man. In fact, how many "bad men" would command the killing of infants? Yet he says we're not good no matter what we do and so he must kill his own son to make us good enough. |
macof:Can you please intimate me about what you think Oduduwa is/was. Was he not a man? |
Image123:That's what the Bible says, right? One of its many attempts at vitiating man in order to glorify god. Fortunately, the Bible is wrong on that note. Man can both be inherently good and inherently bad. |
Image123:Semantics, sir. It doesn't matter what word I chose to use. I think the point I'm trying to make is clear enough. |
If angels could leave heaven just to have a taste of nubility, then heaven mustn't be much then. Maybe women are in fact the true heaven. |
Image123:Of course you do not understand. Your mind has been conditioned to do good for the sake of a reward for far too long. However, you need to know that such goodness is actually selfishness as an earlier poster has rightly pointed. Consider a man who feeds and houses the homeless because he feels it's the right thing to do, and a man who does the same because he believes the government will pay him a million dollars for doing it. Who do you think is inherently good between the two? |
Buhari has enough corrupt acquaintances to manage yet. He doesn't need OBJ to join the fray. He doesn't need his direct endorsement; a tacit one will do. Those who will vote Buhari will vote him irrespective. |
davien:Of course agnostic atheism entails more than I initially posted. That was just a synopsis. For many, concession to lack of knowledge is inextricably linked to lack of evidence. It is illogical to believe in something you do not "know" exists. That is akin to faith. To say that ones "knows" then, one must have evidence for the said thing. We do not know that leprechauns exist because there's been no evidence for them, so we do not believe in leprechauns. It's something like Robert G. Ingersoll put it: " Is there a supernatural power- an arbitrary mind- an enthroned God- a supreme will that sways the tides and currents of the world- to which all causes bow? I do not deny. I do not know- but I do not believe." Agnosticism is a matter of knowledge; atheism is a matter of belief. In many cases, the latter is a necessary consequence of the former, since it is illogical to believe in something you've conceded is unknown or unknowable. |
Slowvenom:So, do you believe in god or not? You either believe in god or not, even if you're agnostic as davien has rightly pointed out. Agnostic theist: I don't know but I still believe. Agnostic atheist: I don't know, so I don't believe. |
watchman111:How so? |
Let's wait and see. February 14 isn't far long. |
It is so crazy here in Nigeria. Apart from not having affordable Internet, connection can be excruciatingly slow too. Sometimes it takes real determination to browse the internet. It is so bad in my house that I sometimes have to climb our mango tree. And na Lagos I dey o. Wetin we do for this Nigeria sef? Why does everything have to be difficult in Nigeria? Maybe these telecom companies feel since we're adapted to a hard life here, it will do no harm to give us another dose of hardship. |
truthman2012:How intransigent can you be in your ignorance? You are very wrong to think the Higgs Boson has anything to do with God. Several posters have already tried to make you see your folly but like a typical uppity religious man you've decided not to learn. The name "God Particle" probably has its root in its elusiveness, which is akin to God. Whichever way, it's only a colloquial term for the Higgs. It has absolutely nothing to do with God. It neither proves nor disproves God. Next time when you are corrected by obviously more informed people, do your self the favour of taking to correction. Don't be obstinate. It doesn't matter that atheists are the ones correcting you, OK? |
Abuamam:What concerns you, Islam? |
When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all- knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit! But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is bleeped up. Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the résumé of a Supreme Being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently-run universe, this guy would've been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And by the way, I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man. No woman could or would ever Bleep things up like this. So, if there is a God, I think most reasonable people might agree that he's at least incompetent, and maybe, just maybe, doesn't give a shit. Doesn't give a shit, which I admire in a person, and which would explain a lot of these bad results. So rather than be just another mindless religious robot, mindlessly and aimlessly and blindly believing that all of this is in the hands of some spooky incompetent father figure who doesn't give a shit, I decided to look around for something else to worship. Something I could really count on. And immediately, I thought of the sun. Happened like that. Overnight I became a sun-worshipper. Well, not overnight, you can't see the sun at night. But first thing the next morning, I became a sun- worshipper. Several reasons. First of all, I can see the sun, okay? Unlike some other gods I could mention, I can actually see the sun. I'm big on that. If I can see something, I don't know, it kind of helps the credibility along, you know? So everyday I can see the sun, as it gives me everything I need; heat, light, food, flowers in the park, reflections on the lake, an occasional skin cancer, but hey. At least there are no crucifixions, and we're not setting people on fire simply because they don't agree with us. Sun worship is fairly simple. There's no mystery, no miracles, no pageantry, no one asks for money, there are no songs to learn, and we don't have a special building where we all gather once a week to compare clothing. And the best thing about the sun, it never tells me I'm unworthy. Doesn't tell me I'm a bad person who needs to be saved. Hasn't said an unkind word. Treats me fine. So, I worship the sun. But, I don't pray to the sun. Know why? I wouldn't presume on our friendship. It's not polite. I've often thought people treat God rather rudely, don't you? Asking trillions and trillions of prayers every day. Asking and pleading and begging for favors. Do this, gimme that, I need a new car, I want a better job. And most of this praying takes place on Sunday His day off. It's not nice. And it's no way to treat a friend. But people do pray, and they pray for a lot of different things, you know, your sister needs an operation on her crotch, your brother was arrested for defecating in a mall. But most of all, you'd really like to Bleep that hot little redhead down at the convenience store. You know, the one with the eyepatch and the clubfoot? Can you pray for that? I think you'd have to. And I say, fine. Pray for anything you want. Pray for anything, but what about the Divine Plan? Remember that? The Divine Plan. Long time ago, God made a Divine Plan. Gave it a lot of thought, decided it was a good plan, put it into practice. And for billions and billions of years, the Divine Plan has been doing just fine. Now, you come along, and pray for something. Well suppose the thing you want isn't in God's Divine Plan? What do you want Him to do? Change His plan? Just for you? Doesn't it seem a little arrogant? It's a Divine Plan. What's the use of being God if every run-down shmuck with a two- dollar prayerbook can come along and Bleep up Your Plan? And here's something else, another problem you might have: Suppose your prayers aren't answered. What do you say? "Well, it's God's will." "Thy Will Be Done." Fine, but if it's God's will, and He's going to do what He wants to anyway, why the Bleep bother praying in the first place? Seems like a big waste of time to me! Couldn't you just skip the praying part and go right to His Will? It's all very confusing. So to get around a lot of this, I decided to worship the sun. But, as I said, I don't pray to the sun. You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons: First of all, I think he's a good actor, okay? To me, that counts. Second, he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't Bleep around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with. For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog, Joe Pesci straightened that RoosterDrinker out with one visit. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a simple baseball bat. So I've been praying to Joe for about a year now. And I noticed something. I noticed that all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want, half the time I don't. Same as God, 50-50. Same as the four-leaf clover and the horseshoe, the wishing well and the rabbit's foot, same as the Mojo Man, same as the Voodoo Lady who tells you your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles, it's all the same: 50-50. So just pick your superstition, sit back, make a wish, and enjoy yourself. And for those of you who look to The Bible for moral lessons and literary qualities, I might suggest a couple of other stories for you. You might want to look at the Three Little Pigs, that's a good one. Has a nice happy ending, I'm sure you'll like that. Then there's Little Red Riding Hood, although it does have that X-rated part where the Big Bad Wolf actually eats the grandmother. Which I didn't care for, by the way. And finally, I've always drawn a great deal of moral comfort from Humpty Dumpty. The part I like the best? "All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty Dumpty back together again." That's because there is no Humpty Dumpty, and there is no God. None, not one, no God, never was. In fact, I'm gonna put it this way. If there is a God, may he strike this audience dead! See? Nothing happened. Nothing happened? Everybody's okay? All right, tell you what, I'll raise the stakes a little bit. If there is a God, may he strike me dead. See? Nothing happened, oh, wait, I've got a little cramp in my leg. And my balls hurt. Plus, I'm blind. I'm blind, oh, now I'm okay again, must have been Joe Pesci, huh? God Bless Joe Pesci. Thank you all very much. Joe Bless You! (Copyright 1999 by George Carlin. Abuamam:Who says I didn't read all the comments? I might be wrong but you sounded like you were trying to justify the killings. |
Abuamam:It still doesn't justify the killings. Nothing is more sacred than human life. |

RIP, miss. So sad. |
1miccza:To create mine. |
1miccza:Like I said earlier, I attempted writing one but didn't find it easy. But if you just wanted to see an example, here's the one texanomaly posted in her class: He turned the fourteenth glass and said, “Begin.” and I had fourteen minutes left to live; and I had fourteen unrepented sins, and fourteen people whom I would forgive, and fourteen unread books upon my shelf, and fourteen loves I knew I’d loved in vain, and fourteen dreams I’d kept within myself (the fourteen I’d most wanted to explain.) But fourteen minutes quickly passed away. I filled my pen with fourteen drops of ink- the fourteenth glass had offered one delay; and fourteen final grains retained the brink. This sonnet flowed like fourteen final breaths- the fourteenth line, the fourteenth grain, then death. ~“Death of a Sonnet writer” by Scott Ennis |

Was trying to write me an iambic pentameter sonnet as assigned to us by texanomaly. Wasn't coming easy, so I wrote this in the meantime: Morning hush: Unruffled. Fill me with rare tranquility. Chirping fowl: Musical. Permeate my soul with nature's song. Blooming bud: Beautiful. Inundate my nares with sweet smells. Flighty fly: Colourful. Imbue my world with thy beauty. Mighty ace: Elegant. Sustain the globe with raw-pure strength. cc: Texanomaly Laykorn Everestdebliu 1miccza Donifez Leki10 Cisse7575 Dannidom Mynd44 Royver |
This is a stellar piece of writing, I must confess. Big ups Sir Royver! Happy New Year! |
RikoduoSennin:You know your "legit canon" was decided by votes of clergymen of the Catholic (Universal) Church, don't you? |
Pastors must be warming up for their yearly largesse now. The new year's really a happy time for them. |
