I must be honest in my assessment of PMB as regard his performance in this interview and the following is my scorecard
1. The interviewer was very polite & professional in her approach and so asked very serious questions without sentiment
2. I find her cutting in in between the president's talks that is certainly wrong. if she is talking to her President or Obama can she afford to cut in as he talks?
3. however, if she had allowed the president to fully explain himself the president could have committed more blunders than he did
4. I personally like the part where the president asserted that if lowering the prize of naira is against Nigeria interest that he will not do it, not minding the position of IMF.
5.The president is definitely not a person that can be pushed around by his performance but this outing also exposed him further as a high handed and undemocratic personality, Obama, David Cameroon & Merkel would have been more civil & Democratic in their answers
6. A President should be more diplomatic than this. He certainly performed below average in this interview. his temperament was very bare and so any good strategic discussant could have taken advantage of this weakness. he was practically angry with the interviewer taken further his reaction could have shown so though to a critical observer this is already so
7.On issue of IPOB he wasn't technical at all. this interview shows that he knows about the Police & army brutality & have possibly watched some Clio on the military operations .
8.On conflicting terms between his media persons & his personal position in Nigeria's membership of Islamic Forces it goes a long way to show the loopholes of the operators of PMB's public Image
in conclusion I think a president should do better, far much better. I hope the Nigerian media have learnt how to ask point specific questions & not this dancing to the gallery & sycophancy that they do in the name of journalism.

Ordinarily, I should not comment on this thread since Ubah has not mentioned how he would go about it. However, for the benefit of those who might get swayed by his cheap claims, I'll say something.
---
The exchange rate (PRICE of dollars) is determined primarily by SUPPLY of dollars (through exports, FDIs, foreign borrowing, etc) and DEMAND for dollars (through imports, payments of foreign school fees/medical bills, online purchases, etc). The NET flow of these transactions determine the Balance of Payments (BOP) account with the Central Bank. Elementary economics tells us that when demand exceeds supply, prices go up!
---
Coming back to Nigeria, it is well known that oil accounts for 95% of our FX earnings. As oil prices have collapsed from ~$100 in 2014 to ~$30, our supply of dollars has dropped tremendously. This is even worse when one considers that our cost of oil production is ~$20/bbl, meaning that our dollar revenue from oil has dropped from ~$80/bbl to ~$10/bbl. On the demand side, the request for imports are increasing. With such supply shock and increasing demand, there is only one way for the exchange rate to go. This is basic economics and has nothing to do with Emefiele or Buhari, except you are simply being mischievous or grossly ignorant.
---
When oil price collapsed from around $147 to $38 in 2008 due to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), Nigeria had a Foreign Reserve of ~$62bn. The then CBN Governor had to spend ~$20bn from the Reserves to meet import demand thereby preventing devaluation/depreciation. Between 2011 & 2014, oil price was above $100, meaning that the administration never had a dollar supply problem and so could maintain a stable exchange rate. Fast forward to late 2014 when oil prices slid to ~$60 and the administration faced its first supply shock, the CBN had to devalue the Naira twice within a period of 4 months (Nov 2014 & Feb 2015) because the Reserves were too low (<$35bn) to deplete to support imports. Now in 2016, oil prices are around $30/bbl while FX Reserves is less than $28bn. The supply shock has reached unprecedented levels, yet demand for imports has not decreased. There is absolutely no way that the exchange rate can stay below N250/$. Simple economics says that price will continue to move till a new equilibrium is reached where demand equates supply.
---
There is no policy from Emefiele, Soludo, Greenspan, Bernanke or any other Central Bank governor that can strengthen the Naira in the near term. Except we want to completely deplete the Reserves or go to the IMF to borrow SDRs just to meet import demands. Brace up folks, if oil price collapses to $20 (thereby increasing the supply shock) the exchange rate shall hit N1000/$ and I repeat, this has nothing to do with Emefiele or Buhari but simply economic forces. The only thing that can save the Naira is either for SUPPLY of dollars to increase (through high oil price) or DEMAND to reduce. Since we do not have control over the supply side, we can at least focus on managing the demand side. Remember Ben Bruce #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira? It's about demand management.
---
So Mr Ifeanyi Ubah, you have zero knowledge on what you are talking about. With all the money you made from the last government, you can start by building a refinery or some other manufacturing facility (like Dangote) to help us substitute for imports. That would help the Naira more than you seeking cheap consultancy from the government. Or except you want to broker a deal for the government to give amnesty to your Dasuki-Gate friends, so they can bring out stashed up dollars from soakaways and graveyards to support the economy.
without meaning to sound disrespectful sir u will make a very bad researcher and student. In line with valid & sound reasoning u can only challenge him to tell u the "How" of his assertion or wait to see if the federal government will give him the chance by consulting him and then u can be in the right order to criticize his moves. this is good for Nigeria political development , if for nothing it will keep every political office holder on their toes not to abuse power knowing that even his house can be against him if he doesn't deliver and furthermore, the sitting leader will not have any option other than to do what is right which is to deliver on the promise that he made during camp.

Planning a coup is a serious offense and yes, if I was in IBB's place, I would have the coup plotters and everyone associated with the coup plotters executed by firing squad.

However, what I find most disturbing about this read is that IBB believes in real politik. That would explain his actions after the free and fair elections in 1993.

For those who don't know, real politik is the political philosophy that states there are no friends, only interests. Now, it sounds harmless enough, but when implemented, it is the most dangerous fundamental idea in the world. This is the same political philosohpy that Stalin used to murder over 40 million of his own people. To allow a man that adheres to this doctrine to ever ascend to power is asking for trouble.

This is definitely something that the working class and ruling class have invested interest in making sure never happens. For, everyone would be affected by the kind of destruction that real politik minded people bring out. As far as these monsters are concerned, in the quest for power, family, close friends, and common strangers are only as valuable as the extent to which they serve your interests.
Your points are well articulated with special emphasis on the REALPOLITIK.

I have been following this thread since yesterday night without any urge to comment but since I see that people can learn from here let me say this...U know most big people out there majority of them married when they were earning even less than 18k in value to the naira of those years. Some of these big Prof of these days started as primary school teachers & even married as primary school teachers, what were they earning then? the truth is that we have failed to embrace simplicity as a way of life & the worst of all people become unhappy when they start comparing what they are earning with what other friends & relatives. know one thing if u are diligent with what u are doing now & focused just embrace simplicity & believe in a higher being no matter what your religion call that higher being it gives greater meaning & purpose to human life. Don't be afraid to make adjustments like living in d suburb of the town instead of the metropolis where cost of living is higher u may need to pay upto 3 times to buy some things u need u must not pay everything at once. Just don't loose focus u can only see your today never your tomorrow so live in d present. And know this "only what u have experienced is truly your own experience. cheers

Marriage shouldn't be seen as a fund raising ceremony or competition amongst friends on whose was well attended or most beautiful or regal. It should be more of loving each other.

This is the kind of discussion we should be having rather than which religion is supreme than the other. I studied this thread and shook my head. The OP was asking a question and some pretentious people who think they are Christians jumped into the thread to cast more fear into his troubled heart. How many of these pretentious people know about Jesus, that they pretentiously claim to love. How many of them know and truly understand the GOD concept. When you ask them simple logical questions, they rush to quote a book written by men.

Religion is a huge problem and has outlived its usefulness. GOD must be experienced and not read about. You have to experience GOD before you even start your spiritual race. Jesus has said it GOD is spirit and must be worshiped in spirit and in truth - that is a logical truth, but your Christian leaders has twisted that logical truth staring right in your face. I will repeat again, you do not read about GOD to know IT. You must experience GOD and when you do, nothing in this world, no book, no fallacies or pastors will ever deceive you again.

Let's stop these pretentious excuses offered freely on this thread and concentrate on how we can truly experience GOD. I would concluded again - many are called, but a few are chosen. Are you the few and when I mean few, I mean very very very very few.
Thank u @,Boss13 I always look forward to sound logical discussions in Spirituality related topics but I don't like religion as it makes men bias and like Karl Marx put it religion is opium of the masses. Even in other aspects of life I allow logic to take precedence. while some people don't like it especially ladies but I cannot give up logic for sentiments even in creation & the natural law there is pure logical consistency in action that some human beings have not come to appreciate it does not change anything. Please feel free to open threads on interesting topics about nature & creation & I will be glad to share ideas with u. experience an uplifting Sunday

Wealth can be a karmic burden because you tend to want more and hence live in its illusion. Take a look at most wealthy men. Even Jesus said it would be hard for a wealthy man to enter into the kingdom of God. Wealth is not bad, but how many can have self mastery over having such power and can acquire any material thing on this materialistic plane.

Even Bill Gate, a Freemason, has realized this and has assigned a huge portion of his wealth to charities and is now chasing a cause for the betterment of this world.

Nothing is wrong with acquiring wealth, it is just how you use it that matters. In your quest of acquiring wealth, you may be doing the universe a great disservice
if u saw my other discussions with Jasey the soror in the thread I am of the same opinion as u that wealth on its own is not bad but the use we put it to will determine if it burdens our spirit thereby creating a negative karma & dragging our spirit down or if it uplift & enoble the human spirit. It therefore follows that nature knows who or who not to bestow wealth on but u use your freewill to determine if u are going to use it to uplift other human beings or otherwise but whether its used for good or evil one is perpetually bound to that decision & the returning effect arising from it as karma.

God is called several names in various cultures and belief systems. In my culture, it is called Oghene! In AMORC, GOD is simply GOD! We dont color it with any other name. Simple!!!

When we pray we say; "God of my heart, God of my realisation"!

If you do not like this, tolerate it. If you cant tolerate it, ignore it. If you cant ignore it, control yourself in other not to start up a WAR! He who starts WAR must repay his karmic debt.

To also correct your misconception, one needs basic logic in life. If you lack it, you lack "common sense".
or "Oh G*O*D of my realization". Truth is I was exposed to Rosicrucian materials early in life. I started reading Rosicrucian Digest at JS 1 & through out my Secondary school I was stumbling into one Rosicrucian magazine or the other mostly from my dad's shelve(I think he was interested in Rosicrucian when he was younger). Though my maternal grandfather was a Rosicrucian & went real far in his studies being close to him I really learnt a lot he simply advised me not to read his monograms, I even know his key number. I think he stopped paying his subscription after retirement & so his monogram stopped coming & he is a very goodman that I admire a lot & contributed his Civil engineering experience for free for the local Church Parish in the village till he passed on by this time last year. He enouraged I wrote to Calabar for mastery of life & it was sent when I was in my year 2 in university around 2007 but for fin incapacity I couldn't fill d membership form. I dropped the Idea of Rosicrucianism when I read GRAIL MESSAGE in 2009 & ever since then I have been a GRAIL MESSAGE adherent. Even now I still have Rosicrucian friends one was even the Master of a lodge I don't know if he is still he even gave me the mastery of life again last year but I did not fill it. I think I will prefer a Rosicrucian to most of the so called Christians out there though I have some personal reservations about some Rosicrucian teachings but they are not devils like the churches paint, that one is a fat lie

That is another way to look at it and it perfectly normal. That is one thing about mystical teachings, they are open to interpretations but no matter the interpretations, the truth in them is static. The truth in this matter is;
1. One does not need wealth or material things in other to know, worship or serve God.
2. Wealth is not an indicator of spiritual progress and neither is the absence of it such.
3. It is better and easier to know God and develop a healthy spiritual life when one has transcended materialism.

Every other thing we say would be mere interpretations to these facts. wink smiley

By the way, I love the way you think.
Well all your submissions in the three lines argument are 100% truth & I agree with u also 100%. Though the three lines doesn't support the premise that wealth is a hindrance to spiritual evolution.

I also admire your reasoning & hail a lady's interest in such matters as this. like I quoted u earlier I will like to know u better especially if u are single.

Somethings are too deep to understand. This was something I discussed in my affiliated body some weeks ago. Someone asked a question on why is it that most wicked people are rich and a higher percent of good people are poor and the person even went further to ask why it seems that people who do evil even get richer. The answer was simple. Wealth and materialism are even obstacles to spiritual evolution. Wealthy mystics usually use their wealth impersonally, this proves that they have conquered such passion. People who are materialistic and run after wealth need to conquer it and in that sense, it becomes a karmic burden in other to teach a lesson and free the soul from unneccessary attachment to the things of the world.
well is not a question of somethings being too deep to understand or not with the natural laws which are at the same time the creative will of the creator one can understand & explain many phenomena to the extent that can be appreciable to any human being. I think Wealth on its own is a neutral factor. Infact creation offers humanity all manner of precious stones & metals for use. What matters is the way the human spirit uses that wealth that will determine if it will uplift man the regions of light or press him down to the deepest darkness. As a matter of fact Material possession or Riches/ wealth does not form obstacle to spiritual maturity/ evolution rather it furthers mans' true evolution if used in the right manner, ONCE HE DOESN'T MAKE THE PURSUIT OF WEALTH HIS MAIN PREOCCUPATION IN LIFE. in the right manner here meaning if used impersonally or for general good & to uplift fellow wanderers in life's path. better still u can tell me the particular law of nature that it violates & how material acquisition hinders it.
