@likeme - I apologize and u're right not all men cheat. But I really hate it when a guy attempts to justify his act by saying its in their DNA. WTF! is that supposed to mean? I guess when a thief steals from you, the thief can turn around and say its in his/her DNA too.
FamilyRe: I Can't Believe It,but My Husband Is Having An Affair! by Meddler(f): 10:48am On Oct 26, 2011
So what if he cheats again? She shud repeat everything you just told her? I'm sorry but Nigerian guys are hopeless. They don't even try and claim its in their DNA to cheat. How exactly is it the woman's fault in this case. Obviously the guy felt he was dng enuf for her that's why he felt you cud step out of d marriage. As you rightly put it, if it was the woman who cheated we won't hear the last of it but if its a man then its the woman's fault. Completely retarded society we have. P.S. I neva advocated you leave ur marriage. Look for a way to sort it out. But when dis becomes a constant habit I think its time you figured out what to do. No wonder AIDS is so prevalent in Nigeria. No one can keep it together anymore.

Well don't have the strength to get into this long debate but I'll summarize my points. Gadhaffi was a dictor no argument here. But he did a hell lot for his citizens. So they didn't have free speech, free dis and dat that the West are always criticizing other nations for. The point is that how many other African country can boast of a higher GDP in an African country a SWF of $90bn. Mehn, the citizens better buckle up. Its going to be a bumpy ride. P.S. ogugua88:
Why can't we have pidgin English? Americans don't speak Queens English. They speak American, where words like "gooder", "stupider", "you got beat", excessive use of "like", and so on are spoken. Speaking American is a patriotic deal for Americans. In a country like Nigeria, where everyone is surrounded by shame thanks to greedy politicians, saying patriotism is needed is an understatement. Why can't they have something like a language to unite them?

Mexicans speak Mexican Spanish, not Traditional Spanish. Belgians speak Belgian Dutch and Belgian French, not Traditional Dutch and Traditional French. I don't see what the big deal is with pidgin.
Well said!!! And remember the valley girl English - "like OMG, that's like totally rad". Yes its not proper English but for a while a lot of ppl were speaking that way. it's not official but it's the way u may want to communicate with friends in a chill atmosphere

YOU ARE A COMPLETE EEDIOT. Your stupidity is compounded further by the fact that you couldnt even read what I wrote properly and understand that I am saying OUR INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES ARE SUPERIOR TO THAT NONSENSE BROKEN ENGLISH CALLED PIDGIN. If I hear somebody speaking broken yoruba I FEEL LIKE SLAPPING THEM and the same goes for broken english

Pidgin is for morons who cannot grasp basic comprehension. Whatever language you speak, speak it properly. Many people have abandoned their native tongues for this disaster called PIDGIN which is just another way for the white man to laugh at you.

I hear you! If you teach children pidgin at an early age you risk retarding their intellectual growth. Pidgin is SIMPLIFIED, a child who learns it will HAVE TROUBLE ADJUSTING TO MORE COMPLEX CONSTRUCTS later in life. It is a nice language to use for relaxation, insults, or talking down to your househelp but FOR GODS SAKE not a national tongue unless you want us to be an international laughing stock.

You cant learn sh1t about anyones history from pidgin except that they are empty in the brain. You can learn a LIFETIME of information from learning a proper Nigerian language. Start with Hausa, it's easy. Or meet me, and I'll teach you Yoruba. Have you heard a girl with a high tenor voice speaking urhobo?  I swear you will fall in love instantly!

Your wife is correct.

That is ebonics and it is just as regressive and silly as pidgin. American blacks who allow this speech to rule their daily lives just retar.d their own growth but there is an argument that since they cannot trace their origins that is all they have. We however have kicked the colonials out half a century ago, so we should bury pidgin in the same grave to which all the other nonsense they brought with them has been consigned!

If we want to keep the colonial's language IT IS OUR DUTY TO SPEAK IT AS WELL AS IF NOT BETTER THAN THEY DO. Broken languages of any kind are for the weak in brain.

Also, I have no problem with local/regional accents. Fake accents are worse than perfect grammar with a strong, proud, yoruba dialect spoken by a man who understands the deepest grammatical constructs of the yoruba language as well.

Pidgin is not an accent. It is a deliberate perversion of a language for purposes of simplicity. The white man didnt want to educate you properly so he gave you MONKEY TALK. "i dey go chop now. Big man, they come. I get big plate for house" WHAT THE HELL, IS THIS YOUR NATIONAL LANGUAGEhuh??
Dumb ass!!!!! Coming on here and displaying your level of ignorance. Pidgin as someone put it here is another dialect u dipstick. There's absolutely nothing wrong with speaking pidgin. Just like there is nothing wrong with speaking Igbo, yoruba or hausa or any dialect for that matter. Adapting it as an official language is not so far fetched. So go stick ur ignorant head up in someone's a** and let us exposed mind speak. Mumu!!!!

whats wrong with us herehuh pidgin is a simplified version of a foreign language created to distinguish lower classes and poor people from the upper classes!

this is nonsense! our indigenous languages give us more identity than this horrific creation of colonial masters!

if you truly want to surpass the colonials you must master their language and elevate your own! not adopting a condescending, simplistic slave dialect as your NATIONAL TONGUE!!!!

Speaking from experience you will need a decent amount in savings to cushion the blow depending on where you plan on settling. If ure looking at Abuja or any where else for that matter, focus on finding accommodations. Especially Abuja. It is really important. Rent in Abuja is extremely over priced and you don't usually get what you pay for if you catch my drift. Another one is job prospects: not very encouraging. In the States it could take up to six months to get a decent job with or without contacts. Not the same here. There are ppl who have been looking for jobs for almost 5 years with no luck and yes these are also college graduates. Job hunting in Nigeria is mostly through contacts and networking. My advise plan a course of action before taking the plunge. If you can get a job and find a decent accommodation, I believe ure halfway thru in ur preparation. All else can be taken of in Nigeria. Good luck.

If indeed we want change it will definitely not start by either a dictatorship or a revolution. A revolution will only work when we consider ourselves one nation and indivisible. Right now we don't. Everyone is in his or her own corner. If we truly want a better nigeria it has to start with the general masses-a change in attitude is what's needed in this country and true unity. Even if we execute the corrupt public official who is to say the next person stepping up won't be worse. Have you really thought why JJ Rawlings was able to succeed or why the revolution in Tunisia took place? The key ingredient was everyone came together as one. But our nation's problem is once money is thrown at a particular group making noise everyone keeps quiet. Look at what happened to Corpers earlier this year. Noise was made and money was thrown around. End of discussion. Nothing happened. And that's how it is with everything here.

@OP, I have gone through all your photos on facebook and I have not seen one garment that is inspiring or I would want to wear. The designs are very plain and the fabrics you used especially what looked like satin( can look very awful depending on what you are making).
If you really want to make it as a designer in Milan you have to think outside the box because with these garments you are playing very safe and do research on what is on/colours/fabrics etc(especially since you want to incorporate both African and Italian styles). With what I have seen, you just look like someone who can sew nothing else. . To be a designer, you have to think outside the box, inspire people, "wow" people and have something that people would want to wear. I am assuming you have not showed your garments in Milan fashion week  and I will tell you to do a bit more research especially styles surfacing from Africa.

There are people on facebook who incorporate African and western fashion and I think you should check them out. .

You can dislike someone but still respects them. So again, it varies from person to person.[/quote]at the bolded part I agree with you. But can you truly love someone and still want to see them get hurt? regardless of how you define love it is still a universal emotion. No one ever wants to see a loved one get hurt.

I guess my main problem is with the way Nigerians throw around that word "love" like water. Using it and feeling it are two different things.

EducationRe: The Nigerian Standard Of Education Is High by Meddler(f): 8:00am On Jun 28, 2011
Roland17:
I quite agree with the poster, despite its obvious lapses, the Nigerian educational system prepares students for life and adaptability in any educational system u find your self, also, it worthy to note that the most intelligent students in American universities are not Americans, they are either Africans (not African Americans), Asians or Indians.

And for those who don't believe it, many American universities use the open book system even for doctorate degrees, am pursuing my MBA here and i have couple of friends studying medicine, economics etc who write open book exams yet many still fail the exams. the open book is common in 68% of american universities, it is based on the premise that if a student is able to recollect the chapters of the text book, he would never forget the topic or subject, but this has made many students lazy

one aspect of their education that can never be compared, is the aspect of research writing and paper presentation, for me that is the epitome of the educational system in the U.S, students individually prepare and present research papers weekly, depending on your course, sometimes in the class and other times in front of a panel of professors, this challenges students to be creative.

overall its a wonderful experience that encompasses every aspect of education.
You hit the nail on the head. We are definitely lacking and we need to improve on a lot of areas e.g student to professor ratio, incorporate an interactive learning atmosphere, research, research, research!!!!! In terms of maths and science we are definitely killing it over there. A testament to how I got out of taking algebra 101 (I do not deny it, I'm a complete math dunce. I wud have gotten an F in that class). But I went to the math head of dept and he was able to exempt me from algebra 101 - why? b'cos I was Nigerian and presumably most of us Nigerians were math genius (go figure, and I'm not making this up. That's exactly what he said). Off course, once he started talking tangents and some other ridiculous math term I started praying he won't give me any test to prove that I was a math whiz grin. Oh yea, I actually aced an advanced stats class which also helped my case cool

PoliticsRe: Whodunit- Police Bomb Blast by Meddler(op): 10:00pm On Jun 16, 2011
I'll start off the thread.
http://www.naijavote.com/view/836
http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/bomb-explodes-police-headquarters-abuja

I'm sure everyone on here is familiar with what the news media are reporting. One thing that pops out is that they are calling this a suicide bombing, According to the article on naijavote, they stated that If confirmed, it would be the first suicide bombing in Africa's most populous nation. I assume we are still waiting on the police to confirm or deny that statement. But I will just go ahead and throw out a thought.

Boko Haram (if they are the ones responsible) have hardly utilized suicide bombers. So why now? Apparently, by equipping the vehicle with bombs and intentionally following the IGP convoy inside the premises indicates that he was planning on detonating the bomb from within. Unless, if he planned on climbing out of the car once he got close enough to the IGP envoy and detonating the bomb from a safe distant.

And if that was the case, he probably overestimated the amount of explosives required to detonate the bomb from a safe distant (following this train of thought, we can assume that he has little knowledge of explosives). According to Daily Times a car parked at least 200 yards away from the police HQ was affected by the bomb blast.

I leave it here for now. I have to go do some research on Boko Haram and other terrorist groups operating within Nigeria. I'm really looking forward to your replies.
PoliticsWhodunit- Police Bomb Blast by Meddler(op): 9:33pm On Jun 16, 2011
With the most recent bomb blast, it is now apparent that our security agencies are inept and incapable of doing anything to stop the wave of bomb attacks. You know you have completely lost a grip when the bombers are now bold enough to carry out an attack inside the so called agency that are tasked with protecting our lives and ensuring the safety of citizen.
Now what I propose is that we as good citizens or Nigeria take it upon ourselves and see if we can actually do what the police have been unable to do - solve a crime. It's not impossible, I believe if we seriously put our heads together and utilize our various expertise we could get to the bottom of this crime. We've seen the news and there are a couple crucial information we can extract from the news segment.
Please and please if you are interested in seeing what combined knowledge can achieve, I say put on your thinking cap and come and assist in this mission. Let's try and be civil and not derail the thread. Whatever theories you have lets hear them. And your theories have to follow the facts. You are also encouraged to think outside the box but still keep your reasoning within a logical frame.
RomanceRe: Why Are Nigerian Girls So Money-conscious? by Meddler(f): 9:36am On May 24, 2011
Why is no one talking about Abuja guys, after all they were the ones that started this trend. Give a girl money and she sticks around. Guys in Abuja are so incorrigible. Obviously once you show the girl some bills she will automatically throw herself on you. I’m back in naija completing my NYSC and I was quite shocked when I met a random dude and he was willing and eager to dash me money. As in how and for what? Thank God I have a well-padded account before landing in this place (just saying). I was a working girl and made a good living back where I lived. So their cars, houses and what not no dey trip me.

You also have to realize that Naija in a way mirrors the American lifestyle. In that, we are very materialistic. The difference being that in America there are actually jobs out there for everyone – male or female. An American is guaranteed a job after college and a well-paid job for that matter. And plus most goods and services are accessible to the average American. On the other hand a Nigerian cannot boast of even seeing a decent paying job years after graduation but yet want to live the good life.

U can imagine a college girls or a youth corper sporting a lace front wig or Brazilian hair that cost upwards of 50,000 naira. For ppl that don’t earn much we certainly don’t know how to live within our means, always looking for the next big thing. You want a BB yet you can’t afford it. But instead looking for some guy to get it for you. Abuja girls (not all, there are still some very respectable ones) take some pride in yourself and work to get your own shit!!!

Shut up Tosin. I wasnt arrested coz i had no receipt, they said i was a fraudster after showing them my i.d and even they had the right to go through my call records. Well they mellowed down after i explained my self but you know the f*cked up NIGERIAN police, they charged me with a crime and they havent investigated yet! WTF? They never mentioned receipt Dunce!!

i had a little comic relief from one guy who was in the cell with me, bt what did he do? They charged him with Kidnapping and the girl he kidnapped was found with him in an hotel room. But the girl was just a runs girl he was having sex with. But the silly police taking his statement was inciting him to write that he is a kidnapper, and the funny part was when they were questioning the girl at her statement. The dumb fool officer was asking her " You were kidnapped right"? but the girl was repeatedly saying 'I was not kidnapped oh"

It was even after the came out of the hotel they saw me walking past thwm and and they called their papa head.

Another guy was in the cell too, for what? Just because his belt loosened from his trouser and while he was trying to put it back on, the silly officer was charging him for assualt (like he was getting ready for a fight). It was quite funny sha

LWKMD!!!!! OMG I know it wasn't funny at the time it was happening for holy crap. If I didn't know better I would thought this a joke. Sorry to hear your ordeal.

Thank God that you came out 5 hours leter. My experience in naija at yaba one morninig kept me thinking,   and I had this resolution that Nigeria is  an "hopeless" country. sorry if I sound too negative, but that is the truth! mayb for now. I wait to see the change soon,

I finished my engineering degree in one of the Nigeria useless university without job.  One morning, I was walking along yaba area trying to look for where to fix my glasses along the road. Suddenly, a Bus -  commercial bus - packed very close to where I was standing and a group of guys came out from the Bus and order me to go inside that they are Police office. I refused, untill I was shown their Police ID. I entered the bus, hoping that they will tell me my offence. I was thinking my offence  maybe that I was fixing my pair of glassses with those guys along the road not using a registered Optian, so I planned to tell them that I was unemployed so I can afford the consultant fee of an optomologist or optian. Inshot I teck to Yaba that day,

Alas, that was not my offence. I was told to show my ID, which I did   showing my National ID. Then they collected my wallet, searching for only God knows what! I have alot of Busiiness contact  card inside my wallet. I have only the money I wanted to use to get the glasses fix. The Bus was still moving all this time,  I guess the Driver is not a police officer.

In the Bus I meet some other guys. We were all taken to the  Police barrack at somewhere in surulere. At the station,  the police officers are giving all of us our offences.  Guys please my u na follow me hear offences

One guy was told that because his laptop has no receipt, means that he is a Yahoo Boy, another guy among us was told that since he is a student of Unilag, that he should be in school at that time why was he in Yaba, that it either he is a pick pocket or fake money changer,   alot of offencees like that I can really remember again. I was just laughing! Yes there was one guy charge for carry Black sack,  na when I hear this I canot control my laughter again.

Mine was that ,  during the time one of the police was checking my wallet, they found a small  broken rusted blade.  I  cannot even remember how it got there, it  was rusted, shows that it has being there for long.  so I was charge for light weapon carrier, guys at this time I was laughing so loud, I was laughing at the failure of Nigeria system,  You need to see the way the officers were saying it,  You are charge for  CARRING LIGHT WEAPON, each time I ask which weapon?, they would show me the rusted broken blade, i would laugh so loud!

Others paid to gain their fredom, and when they saw that I was just catching fun with them, they have to let me go, but I was just laughing at Nigeria as a  country.

I can't figure out which one is funnier. OP's post or yours. I pray this doesn't happen to me. I carry my laptop to work with no receipts. Shit I have no idea where my receipt is  huh

So what chance do we or our future generations have? I'm sure that they thought that Nigeria would really become a great nation. I mean we were progressing and now we are much worse than ever before. Is there really hope? Especially if we keep moving the direction we are.
PoliticsThe Old Nigeria by Meddler(op): 4:46pm On Mar 12, 2011
Now that I'm old enough to grasp the ills of my beloved naija, I've been hearing all these fairy tales of Nigeria. For example, one of my older coworkers was telling me about a Nigeria with constant electricity. I was shocked b'cos I can't seem to remember a time when we did not own a generator. He said that in those days when they had to go away to boarding schools, that they were given transportation money by the government to school and back home during the breaks and even provisions too. He also told me about the rail systems and other interesting things.
I've only known the corrupt poverty riddled Nigeria so It got me thinking. How did we get here if things were so good back then. Why couldn't it be stopped once we witnessed that things were changing for the worse. How in all things good did we get to our present situation?

P.S. if u have any stories to add I'll love to hear them. Maybe we have to dig deep into the past to understand how to fix naija and get her back on track

OP so u want to do NYSC? I'll just tell you to do your home work well. Don't fall into the trap of getting fed only half of the story. I'm foreign trained and I completed my camp last November (batch C) and still serving. But on camp I met someone who just came from the Uk (born and bred there) and apparently his friends who went thru the program said he was gng to love it, that they had such a wonderful time at camp. Let's just say he was quite disappointed when he actually experienced camp for himself hahahahaha.

Sorry I wasn't one of those ppl who enjoyed camp (can't go into details here). But if you are really interested in NYSC pls, pls weigh the pros and cons of it. If you plan on continuing serving after camp, make sure u find somewhere decent to work or get posted to. I let ppl dictate my place of service for me b'cos I was still a newbie and let's just say I'm currently going thru slave labor. Haven't seen a single pay check from my place of service since I started working here since Nov 2010 (thank God for Savings).

Money- make sure you have mucho savings to rely on. The meager salary u're getting from NYSC or your place of service will not suffice. If u're planning on serving in Abuja make sure u know ppl in Abuja and pls triple whatever mount you currently have in your savings account. Abuja is expensive and if you want to have a good time in Abuja u're gng to need loads of cash

Housing- Start apartment/house hunting as soon as possible (especially in Abuja). Housing is super scarce and super expensive.
Well if you still decide on coming home for service all I can say is God speed. NYSC is what you make of it.
