Education / Amazing Facts Jambites Need To Know About The Nigerian Tertiary School by meetmeonline: 6:03pm On Jun 28, 2012
Here are some facts I never heard from my elders as a Jambite but I saw them with my eyes

The school

Every accredited institution is a good school. It is commonly perceived that some higher schools in Nigeria are better than others and will therefore produce better graduates. This has not been verified by anybody as at the time of writing this so we should therefore believe that such perceptions are only boastful claims by those who have a link with them. All schools operating with the accreditation of the NUC and other regulatory bodies are good. It is left for the student to make the best of the resources provided by the management of the Alma Mata he or she selected in personal development. The quality of a graduate a school produces depend mainly on the attitude of him or her toward study and not the believed quality of the school.
The statement that all Nigerian schools are equal in quality does not remove the fact that the management and operations of some of them appear to be more organized than the other. And organized school is one that meets it calendar and has put the basic learning and research facilities in place.
Prospective candidates should be given a free will to make a choice but must physically move to the campus to investigate and verify that the real nature of things in the school is acceptable to him or her.

Every school offer their accredited courses correctly. it is also commonly perceived that some school may not be capable of offering a kind of courses due to her nature e.g a school of Agriculture offering a course in the field of business or core engineering. This is a wrong notion as the governing body that oversees higher schools e.g. NUC permits it. Every school that has been accredited to teach and research in a specific course has been found capable and therefore can do well. Candidates should not just doubt the ability of a school in offering a course but may rather go visiting the department to see for him or herself

Some courses have different duration in a different school. Though the study content and stress area of same courses are the same in the various schools, different schools have different approach to teaching them. Some courses that take four years in the regular university may take up to five in a technical university. Candidates applying for a course should seek to know the duration of the course directly before making choice of any institution.

Some schools are more preferred than the other.
This fact makes a very useful tip for a strategist to win the competition into the Nigerian University. More preference have gone to some higher institution over the other for certain reasons like proximity to a large urban center e.g Lagos, years of existence, amount in fees, quality of academic structures e.t.c. During selection of institution of choice, the candidate or course advisor must seek the latest data on the preference of each school over the other before concluding on the institution to select.
Tip: The higher the number applying for a school the harder it will be to get admitted into that school
Hint: the JAMB UTME website provides a handy statistics of the number of students that have applied for a school. This table could be used to understand the popular preference of schools

Some schools tend to be faster academically by nature. The nature of the governing body of a school and her philosophies reflects her operations. Some schools strictly follow their academic calendar and complete a session in time. This advantage is important to the prospective student as it will ensure no time is wasted unnecessarily in his or her schooling year.
Tip: schools that are known to be very fast are more likely to have departments that are left behind in academic calendar thereby causing internal problems in them. Candidates applying for these schools must verify the place of the department to the school’s academic calendar

Some schools are more expensive to study in. Schools that have campuses in areas that have a higher cost of living are relatively expensive to school in. The host community is made to provide goods and services that the school cannot readily provide to the camping staff and student. The students are sometimes exploited by them in accommodation prices and many other services. The student union government and some other activist associations have in the past attempted cushion this effect by regulating prices of goods and services but this is only limited to the confines of the institution.

The Department

Some department within an institution may not reflect the perceived image of the school. This is one fact that must be noted before selecting a school. Some schools in Nigeria are noted for their glory but some of the departments in this very institution may have been in turmoil. Occurrences like fire outbreak, mass resignation of teaching staff and over-crowding due to admitting too many student into a department may adversely disrupt academics in the department and reduce the standards of it. Becoming an undergraduate in this department is sometimes regretful as students fall victims of the existing problems and hardly graduate with ready result.

Some department in a specific school tend to grade higher. Candidates must wake to the fact and be aware that the average attitude of the teaching staff of every department in a school in grading students’ performance may vary greatly. Some departments have benevolent lectures that are fatherly to their students and therefore can afford to give excellent grades for little effort made. This piece of information is ideal for those who have accepted to openly choose from between a group of courses in a specific institution. The prospective student should make enquiries amongst senior students of each department on the nature of their departmental lecturers in grading academic performances.

Some departments are more expensive to study in. The amount of money needed to successfully complete a course (all thing being equal) varies. Courses that are studied with a lot of laboratory, field or studio works and other practical exercises are relatively more expensive than whole theoretical courses. The materials and instruments used in this exercises are usually finance by the students and they are usually expensive.

Some departments are actually located away from the main campus. Candidate selecting a department in a school because of its location must be sure that the department is located at his very campus of target. Some schools have campuses in various location and therefore have their departments scattered amongst their campuses. It will do the candidate good to verify the department is at a location that is still convenient for his or her study.

Some departments with backlog problems will not admit in the current year despite the applications.
Due to certain internal problems, some departments fall behind the academic calendar and find it hard to meet up. This compounds more problems in processing of students’ current the performance and lead to a backlog of academic work to be done. They sometimes find it difficult to move students ahead to start a new academic session and may be forced to give up one year.

It is disheartening that our great nation is rather growing in numbers with people that just read topics and begin to criticize without looking in-depth into the subject matter.
The reason why most Nigerian graduates parade the streets with a pass grade is not because they were dull at school, but because they may have spent reading time in doubting what a Professor (who already had a PhD before their birth) teaches.
While you were having wet dreams from the girl you met in your sleep, I was up all night and calculating figures that ranked the list you see. I do not intend to insult anyone on Nairaland but I strongly believe if webcams were activated in every PC, one may one day see a donkey criticizing at the other end.

In order to avoid writing something too long, I will stop at the few statistics above
Now give you own interpretation on the following.
On the average,
1143 applied for Civil Engineering (generally)
1326 applied for Electrical Electronics (generally)
1088 applied for Mechanical Engineering (generally)
And an average of 444 applied for architecture (generally)

Now tell yourself the harder course, using your own judgment

If you have a better way of using the information in the link above to derive at a better list, Please introduce and teach me.

NYSC / Re: How To Write An NYSC Personal CDS Project Proposal by meetmeonline: 5:08pm On Jun 22, 2012
I was given a traditional title by the tribe head.

Shook the governor and got a lot of girl corps members (that never had my time before) to kissing me and wanting to snap with me. That was the first time I actually tested stardom.

Was aired in AIT (2ic) and NTA and the whole Nigeria were calling my parents and my phone suddenly became hotline in those days.

A national newspaper took my story on half centre spread and parents and friends took the papers running to where my parents lived.

The cash....glory....reputation....pride....triumph....lifetime respect from other corps members and your family...the experience and history.........There is just every benefit to doing NYSC projects I did four (4) and became the second most outstanding in the state in my time.

Your project is a very powerful one and can land you a national award if you completed it and succeed in getting the students to reading and this is seen to have drastically boosted their reading culture and general performance. (I have been there before so I can predict correctly)

With my experience in CDS projects, I will advice you started a new building rather than renovating. The earlier carries more weight than the later.

If I can complete a whole (concrete block) building with roofing and painting in just five months, then you too can.

Be ready to ingest a carton of Panadol extra...but common, it is worthwhile...you will never regret it
.

This is what you should do

Write a letter to the State Director.....through.....the HOD CDS.....through.....your Zonal Inspector. The letter should carry a proposal that should carry each project you hope to undertake in this manner

Project 1
Title
Building a room library at idiaraba village to......

Statement of problem (depending on the state's format)

Duration

Budget

Source of funds

How the funds will be used

Every step you intend to take from start to finish Procedures in the NYSC is so official that in this segment you are to even state you will first apply to the very person reading (the State Director)

Project 2

......

You must be ready to wash peoples plates and feed their chicken to be able to accomplish this. Even when they never gave you the money and your parents did, you must share the giving glory equally amongst the chiefs in the community, telling NYSC that one chief (that kept on posting you and never gave a kobo) gave you N50,000

But never lose hope

If the impatient me can do what I did...YOU TOO CAN

Education / No 1 Reason Why Many Will Not Get Admitted Into The Nigerian Federal University by meetmeonline: 9:37am On Jun 22, 2012
The primary reason why many fail to secure admission into higher school is because they have selected one of the members of the “Hot 25” without being equipped enough to face its challenges. Let us examine what the Hot 25 entails

The Hot 25
This is a group of 25 courses that have been identified to get the highest applications from candidates yearly. They are of household popularity because they are believed to be prestigious and marketable. The rush for courses of the Hot 25 has brought about a big jam in the admission process in Nigeria and has caused many to spend years missing out in the higher school admissions list.

The courses of the Hot 25 as arranged in descending order (according to the crowd they pull) are:

1 Medicine and Surgery
2 Law
3 Accountancy/Accounting
4 Pharmacy
5 Economics
6 Electrical/Electronic Eng.
7 Business Administration
8 Civil Engineering
9 Mechanical Engineering
10 Computer Science
11 Petroleum Engineering
12 Nursing
13 Computer Engineering
14 Mass Communication
15 Banking and Finance
16 Chemical/Petrochemical Eng.
17 Medical Lab. Sc.
18 English
19 Biochemistry
20 Political Science
21 Geology/Mining
22 International relations
23 Marketing
24 Microbiology
25 Public Administration

Various candidates applying in the UTME have various ideologies on the Hot 25. Let us identify reasons why candidates choose a member of them and why others may not.

Why candidates choose within the Hot 25

They are of household popularity: The courses of study in the Hot 25 are well known to everyone to produce professionals that people think will rule any industry they entered. They come to everyone’s mind when thinking of higher school courses. Likewise, whenever we see paintings or other media that depict professions, we see professionals of a course within the Hot 25.
For prosperity: It is widely believed that selecting from amongst the Hot 25 will bring to pass prosperity in the way of the candidate in future. People see them as courses that will quickly land a high profile job to her graduates as soon as they entered the labour market. Some others believe employers ask for mainly courses from the Hot 25 and therefore aim to bag that which is needed.
Parent coercion: When parents love a profession they most times wish their children to become a professional in them. This reason has made some parents compel their children to applying for their loved course of study. Departments that take the biggest share in this occurrence are usually members of the Hot 25. The dependent child is now forced to do the will of the parent to go for them. Some other parents also get involved in this because they are clueless about courses outside the Hot 25
To live their dreams: Courses within the Hot 25 have been linked closely to the childhood dream of candidates. This is because of their popularity: When a kid is asked what he or she wants to become, they quickly mention a member of the Hot 25. In most cases, they maintain this desire and follow it to the last by selecting just it at the UTME.
To copy other friends: Teenagers enjoy indulging in the popular choice. They tend to copy each other’s plan and follow in what they feel will make the other succeed. This may have been as a result of trying to be defensive by making similar choices that may maintain a similar status that would keep them one as friends for life and not to change the status of one at the expense of the other
To gain respect: Courses of the Hot 25 commands a level of prestige when mentioned and this have made egoistic candidate run after them. Professionals that are products of these departments are perceived to have ruled in various institutions of society so candidates are therefore enticed to follow suit, hoping it drives the other to his knee in respect in applying for a member within the Hot 25
They have no choice either: Candidates who approach the UTME level without any plan or strategy in mind get confuse on the course of study to go with. They usually throw the dice amongst the Hot 25 to select a course aimlessly. The courses under the Hot 25 easily come to mind whenever there is need to give a guess, this is because of their popularity.

Due to the problems faced by candidates applying for the Hot 25, some others have resolved to avoid these courses of study when they apply in the UTME

Why some candidates may avoid selecting from the Hot 25
Poor performance: The UTME and PostUTME score needed to win a course in the Hot 25 must be excellent. Candidates have been disappointed in the past because they have applied for a member of the Hot 25 only hoping to get into the list with an average result. Magic or Miracles almost never happen to believing candidates with a poor performance. They must get a superb score to see them through the gate of becoming enlisted as first year students in any the courses.
May not cope with studies:
Most courses under the Hot 25 get tricky or complicated as study advance. Most students find it hard to be patient enough to face the rigors that come at this time and would be forced to withdraw or continue getting bad grades and graduate with a poor result. When a candidate is seen to be incompetent and/or impatient enough to successfully study and graduate in a dream course, it is advisable to look to other areas of strength and try selecting another rather than being interested in a course of study that he or she will do poorly in.
To save time: The number of candidates that are made to sit back at home after each entrance examination have made it discouraging for average candidates to seek for any of the Hot 25. Every stage in life has an age bracket that it best fits. Average candidates applying for the Hot 25 have been made to stay years out of school and to waste fruitful years of their lifetime due to the inability to win in the competition. Candidate that sincerely know that they are not sound enough to get an excellent score in the examinations and are eager to get through the higher school system early in life should therefore try to avoid the Hot 25s.
Avert academic problems: Courses of the Hot 25 lead to departments that have been forced to take more students than they could carry. This fact causes a lot of population related problems like result processing backlogs, missing result and postponed exams due to space. This is not common in non hot 25 courses as the fewer number of undergraduate students make it relatively easy for the their operations to run smoothly
To be real: Most candidate that have applied for courses under the Hot 25 have done it to copy one person or the other, they have not truly made their choices and are therefore unreal. A good number of candidates have had certain ambitions at childhood, only to abandon them when they get older because they seek a better paying profession. Some Candidate never get distracted or ashamed in what they love; they simply go for it without a flinch.
Reducing the risk of not securing admission: The Hot 25s are household choices that pull a lot of application traffic into it. The larger the number of people applying for a course, the longer the list of candidates that will not make it into the department. When the number of candidates applying for a course gets to its limits, the additional application begins to make up the number of candidates that is bound not to get the offer. This puts the fate of a good number of people into depending on a very thin opportunity of getting admitted. When too many people have applied to study a course the number of people to one space increases. For example, when 200 people apply for a course and the department takes only 100, it means that 1 candidate will be selected amongst 2. But in a case where 7000 people applies for the same course, only 1 person in a group of 70 will ever make it
To take an alternative route to their dream: There is an alternative route to any dream profession. This can be made possible by the effectiveness of the strategy applied in it. The candidate must ensure he or she moves on the right track. Good career advisors play an important role in planning a good route for the candidate. They draw routes with links to alternative “b”; the candidate must endure to the end of this in order to get something handy out.
To avoid being a victim of unfair practices: Whenever there is a rush for something with limited spaces, contenders begin to employ desperate strategies. Providers may also begin to use unfair policies that favour a group at the expense of the other. Some schools have gone to various length of exploiting applicant of the Hot 25 courses with astronomical demands in acceptance fee. This is not practiced in departments outside the Hot 25 because those that apply to them are appreciated by the school and the department.

Family / Re: Which Do I Choose; Marriage Or Job? by meetmeonline: 6:36pm On Jun 06, 2012
chaircover: In the car so excuse my "disjointed" post

My take is somewhat different. I dont believe in resentful wives and I dont believe in one sided decisions.

This girl has explained how long it took her to find this job. We all know what that means; the disappointments, the frustrations, the questioning herself if she is good enough and so on. She was probably offered sex in exchange for jobs severally, she would have watched people not as qualified as her stroll in and get the job simply because their dads were friends with the managing director. This is Nigeria.

She finally gets the job and now hubby to be has told her to resign. My question is what was he looking at all the while his finance was looking for a job in Lagos, when he knew that she will be settling down in Abuja with him. Question number two what is he doing/strings he is pulling to get his wife a job in Abuja? Its not just good enough saying resign.

LOVE!!! works both ways. If she loves him, yes to give up a career and marry him, but if he loves her he wouldn't want to put her in an unhappy situation either.

without any information to hand such as the length of the relationship, the guys financial status, his age, and if the wife has any dependents etc. I can only advise blindly and that is to say that they meet halfway; they start looking for a job in Abuja and postpone the marriage for a few months which will give the wife enough time to save up some money, satisfy her need to work and time for them to both find a job or start a business in Abuja.

We were well received and treated as one of theirs, no discrimination as long as you respected laid down laws, rules and regulations. NYSC allowance then was (N120) one hundred and twenty Naira if I'm not mistaken. Kaza, i.e. live chicken were three for seven Naira at the ultra-modern newly built market (kasuwa). Food was cheap, life and limbs were safe and secure, no killings, no mayhem. We lived and felt at home for the best part of ten months plus. Corpers Lodge on Dan Chadi road, Sokoto was bliss.

Oboy watch it and change your ideology before you ruin the life of anyone seeking your advice in O'Level.

It is far better to start Horticulture or Forestry by 17' and go for ICAN to become Chartered by 23' than to keep applying only to (if ever you will) get your UNILAG Accountancy at the age of 24 to graduate by 28' and be called BROSSS! by your mates while in NYSC

How brilliant could you ever be to be amongst the 200 (with good heads and influential parents) who will win admission in a department where

10,109 applied for Accounting in UNIILLORIN
10,131 applied for Medicine in UNN
9,423 applied for Business Admin in UNIILLORIN
9,406 applied for Accounting in OAU
7,343 applied for Business Admin in UNIBEN

In the list number above, 1 out of every 37 people may only get admission, meaning in a Post-UME class of 40, you must be the best

I am currently writing a book that will correct this ill. There is no Admission problem in Nigeria we are the problem to ourselves.

My brother, do you know 80,048 candidates applied to study in University Of Benin?

71,369 of them applied for just 20 Courses

The rest (wise) 8,679 of them applied for the rest 67 departments

Now see this statistics

No (good) department takes over 200 so the above means 71,369 people will contend for 4,000 spaces meaning a cool 67,000 people have wasted their time buying JAMB forms and have ruined a whole year of their lives

Now see more statistics below

SCHOOL........NO THAT APPLIED..for..DEPARTMENT..........REAL SPACES(IF 200 PER DEPT)....NO OF RUINED CANDIDATES
UNILAG............65,634..........................22............................4,400....................................61,234
UNIZIK..............70,805..........................24............................4,800....................................66,005
UNN..................63,918..........................22............................4,400....................................59,518

Dear sir,

I therefore take the honor to announce to you that near 250,000 people applying to study in just 4 schools have wasted their time and ruined a year of their lives

Thank you!

It is very simple. Look inward!

your wife is into bakery, you've experience in marketing and I guess you educated.

1.Do a research on the trends of the modern bakery business (I always use what works in India now to know what will work in Nigeria in few years time you could do that too)

2. Develop a brand and inject a little pay into it first, then watch and keep injecting. Your wife already has the starter spirit, you bring in the innovative and marketing spirit into it

3. Then PUSH! PUSH!! PUSH!!! the market open and your capital base

The truth is that the whole family my cut tummies now till things get better

But I am so optimistic you will pick-up in near time and (as you know), this will be for life!
Politics / Re: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by meetmeonline: 5:10pm On Apr 30, 2012
FOREWORD

You are most warmly welcomed to the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. I do hope you will avail yourselves of all that the Faculty and indeed the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university, have to offer. Our vision in the Faculty is to provide an all- rounded and high quality education that will ensure that we produce highly competent graduates with the correct professional attitudes and skills who are able to take their place and contribute their quota in a dynamic global knowledge-driven economy and health care delivery system. Our guiding philosophy has ensured that over the nearly 30 years of existence as a Faculty, we have produced highly rated graduates who are contributing their quota all over the world as captains of industry, leaders in community pharmacy practice, academia and other sectors of the economy.

The Faculty of Pharmacy is endowed with some of the best minds in pharmaceutical education in terms of training and exposure. It is committed to providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning, quality services to the community as well as engaging in cutting edge research in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences. Research activities have in the main focused on drug discovery and development from nature, development of local raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry, quality control and quality assurance of pharmaceuticals as well as optimization and rational drug use in patient care.

The Faculty library has recently been expanded and equipped with latest editions of reference materials as well as internet facilities which members of the Faculty are encouraged to visit from time to time in addition to the main University library. The Faculty operates an Academic Advisory System where each student is attached to an academic staff who serves as “locus parentis” and who can be reached in the first instance in case of any concerns or complaints.

Once again, you are welcomed to the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Prof J O Moody

Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy

Fellow Nairalanders, I culled this from the Pharmacy link in the website of the University you called the best in Nigeria. If you know this Professor, kindly tell him to erase this from his homepage and write what's meaningful enough.

It is either he does not know the meaning of the word "cutting edge" or he is only telling lies on his website. Why should he write that the University engaged in cutting edge research in pharmacy when India that cannot even boast of a successful Nano-medical research supplies their drug formula to even the same university's teaching hospital

It is a shame and yet this is what they blow their student's head with "they are the best". I just cannot phantom where one of the best faculty by far (as they call it) will have internet facilities only recently installed and yet the staff is even "encouraged" to use it "not always oh" but "from time to time" (refer to above).

I do not mean to debunk any school but to plead that all students, staff and even old students do not boast but ask inward if you (the individual) are that best and not your school that is only sitting miles away. I graduated from the most poorly rated school but a graduate of one of the big universities in the west (with a CGPA higher than mine) was (after much fumbling) asked to copy and follow my report format for CDS projects during NYSC...why was he not better by far on ordinary report writing?

People should learn to talk for themselves and not a state, tribe or even school...When you sit for a test, it is your person writing and not OAU, UNILAG or EKITI STATE. I run a package just few miles from OAU and sometimes forced to look for an interpreter of even pidgin to break the Yoruba barrier but yet you see her natives and supporters bragging of over-education on Nairaland. If a school that has existed in an area for nearly 50 years still has people around that cannot speak in English then what are the basis of your boast?

I may have written for the south-east in my last reply but I know deeply our educational standards are heading downwards here in Nigeria

There is no better educated university or state in Nigeria the only difference is how the local authorities/handlers have organised the affairs/operations of these institutions/communities and how the learning individuals involved (not tribe) have embraced education.

Do not forget the Cars, PDAs, touch-screens and medicines we enjoy today and learn in our schools are findings from peoples projects and inventions...Where are the inventions from your OAU's, UI's, ABUs and even UNN's?

SORRY!!!
Education / Re: OAU Statistics Of Choice Of Courses For 2012 by meetmeonline: 2:34pm On Apr 30, 2012
I once wrote to professor Ojerinde (JAMB oga) on this; it is a very simple problem to solve. The reason why this happens is because we let these kids jump into seemingly juicy courses without giving a forewarn. The number of times JAMB jammed me gave me a lot of experience in what was really happening in Nigerian Post-UME level.

The reason people do not get admission into universities is not that they entirely do not pass but just the fact that the number of passed applicants cannot be supported by the facilities on ground. This is where the cut-off point comes into play.

Parents are also to blame for this because they try influencing and sometimes use coercion to get their kids into fields they selfishly desire. For all I can shout it, why should parents think of having a doctor at home and the first thing that comes to their minds is forcing their child into it?..is there any department that cannot admit aged students? why can't they apply to become the doctor themselves?

Nothing on the planet will make OAU admit over 300 students in the department of Accountancy in this current session. This simply means that over 9,100 applicants were wasting their time and will not do better than increasing the VC's net-worth by millions of naira when he wins the seduction of encouraging them to come and pay N2,000 each for post-UME. What hits me mostly is when they come up with the plan that even people with 180 should apply for PUME and you see people with 181 lining up in banks, hoping to be students by next year; sorry!

SOLUTION TO THIS (as I suggested to JAMB oga):

I have not verified if this has been implemented now but JAMB must now provide a online application in her website that tell new applicants and warn them on the number of candidates that have applied so far (in real time) for a course in relation to the same course in other Nigerian schools. A candidate loving Accounting can now decide to settle for Zamfara State University with only 30 candidates rather than UNILAG with 2,000 applying at that time. Also, candidates loving OAU can now settle for Plant Science with 21' rather than Biochemistry with 700 applicants already. By this more people will get admission into schools than what we have now.

We have people like myself begging to offer free solutions to every problem in Nigeria but not the voice to speak...

LONG LIVE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF BIA(sorry) NIGERIA

Family / 10 Reasons Why It Is 10 Times Harder For Ladies To Get A Suitor In Lagos by meetmeonline: 12:43pm On Apr 27, 2012
I have come to realise the existence of this problem on my own.

Do not doubt me if I say Ladies do not get suitors in Lagos State Nigeria but win them…Yes! I mean “win them” because it is many times harder for a single lady living in the mega city to hear those sweetest four letter words “will you marry me” from any guy. Please do not mistake “you will marry me” for “will you marry me?” this is because they mean two different things; a lot of girls have been told the earlier but only a few eventually hear the later.

I have identified ten (10) real reasons why this may happen.

Reading the reasons below, you will see why some imbalance abound in compensating for more wives that come-in to more marriage proposals that takes-out, thus leaving more wanting women than men in a tray of equal numbers.

Enjoy my thoughts:

1. COMPETITION WITH SINGLES FROM OTHER STATES: This is the major reason I have identified that tends to distract our bachelors the most. The same magnet that pulls everyone to seeking settlement in Lagos has also kept our sisters in other state in unrest. Every girl is constantly in touch with the one she knew in the city and pushes to appease him day and night just to win his heart and join him in for life. The prestige in living in the town has made our young bachelors become hotcake nationally thereby making the babes within work harder.

But in other states: Number of waiting girls is reduced (possibly to Lagos) and no competition coming from outside, rather potential wives become scarce within to win the all vacancies.

2. HIGH AVERAGE “SETTLE-DOWN” AGE: In most small states life is easy, low cost and may be enjoyed even in low or no income and residents of these areas easily get all resources and may decide to get married early. The average age of settling down in the North-central and North-western parts of Nigeria may see around 24 for guys and 18 for girls but may get as high as 32-27 respectively in Lagos.

But in other states:
The average potential wife is younger and feels she still have got time to join the competition, thereby making things easy for seeking ladies.

3. HIGH COST OF LIVING: The cost of starting an average family in the town called Lagos state of Nigeria is way into the clouds. This is due to the high cost of living: when a young graduate thinks of getting a helpmeet and remembers how he will have to spend nearly half a million naira in getting the basic accommodation and the next half just to give it a little touch of facelift in acquiring furniture, the thoughts fly away thereby making him appear like he is not willing to ask for marriage.

But in other states:
Guys get the little cash required (quickly and easily) to say the good words to their girls early.

4. LIVING STANDARDS OF GIRLS IN THE CITY: Some spinsters in Lagos have adopted a high burning level that they live their usual life daily, spending as much as 5,000-N10,000 on transport, meals and “buy-buy”. That’s a whooping N70,000 weekly and N300,000 monthly and when an average-income-Nigerian-suitor sees this, he gets intimidated and keep his intentions in his belly.

But in other states: Ladies enjoy a lifestyle that still permits spending very little and when suitors size this within their income they see a good reason why they should believe they can cope.

5. SOCIAL ISSUES: I have made a careful observation and discovered that though we may be very exposed, we are truly not social people here in Lagos. People walk past others and even brush shoulders but do not care about whom the other person is. Places like Warri and Aba have people who can tell the names of everyone living in a street as far as 2-3 streets away. But the kind of socializing in the mega city makes it difficult to even know how many kids have your over-the-fence neighbour got. This lifestyle have kept people to themselves and have not made room for good mixup that steers inhabitants into couples .

But in other states: They live in one social community, guys are certain about who they pick and thereby not delaying in more search or needing any recommendation.

6. ANONYMITY:
Lagos state is entirely filled with immigrants coming from all part of the continent and even the globe. The town is packed with people of diverse and strange culture and belief living in one environment. By this, a guy finds it hard to tell or trace the origin of the other and therefore cannot consider risking the once-in-a-lifetime decision on a stranger rather looking within the girls far home to take as wife.

But in other states: They live in an environment of common dialect and known culture which greatly enhances companionship.

7. BUSY LIFESTYLE VERSUS MATTERS OF THE HEART: The cares, worries and hustling associated with living in this mega city to realize dreams is taking away a lot of minds from things of the heart. Most guys want to meet up with a class and therefore see settling down as a setback to realizing this.

But in other states: Guys make a living with little or no stress, working few hours daily and therefore can afford to spend the rest in building a strong relationship that sooner leads to marriage.

8. OVERRATION INDUCED INFERIORITY COMPLEX FROM EXTERNAL SUITORS: Only few guys living outside Lagos state have got the balls to take a Lagosian as wife this is because of overestimation from them. I well agree they are amongst the most expensive, civilized and exposed but the hype our ladies get from guys not living in Lagos is just overrated (do not mean to be offensive) and this has given a rather negative impression that they cannot be managed or pleased when they become wives.

But in other states:
A bachelor is confident and believes in his perception of the girls around and in other similar states and therefore ready to take one, leaving their counterparts in the mega city to the mercy of the guys that know how to handle them.

9. NUMBER OF STREET GIRLS: The function of Lagos metropolis and the quest to be amongst the city class have seen and exodus of street girls moving into the town to make it at all cost. A number of these girls have gotten so desperate and resorted to chasing after bachelors to get an opportunity to stay put in the town as his wife. They give what you cannot give him, call him when you forgot to call him and make him feel like a baby when you think he must be a man. And if your man is eating from this pot behind you, he’ll choose to maintain his silence (not proposing) while stocks last.

But in other states: Street girls chase only after money and do not get desperate to catch guys with potentials because they will not give for free, thereby allowing people in a relationship some space to concentrate

10. PURSUIT FOR A HIGHER STATUS: This is one area our ladies totally fault at; it takes a very careful planning and prioritizing for a woman to win in both home and career. It is either she is too busy to meeting relationship demands or she keeps an ordinary career just to have time for her home (but that happened during our mama years). Most ladies now believe that “if technology brings him in touch with me, I may not have to see him the whole week” thereby chasing after wealth and stardom instead of giving him reasons to dream of you in his kitchen. It is excellent idea to develop yourself and not have any man mess with you but you cannot have your cake and eat it too.

But in other states: Most of the ladies do not worry about status and this helps give room to enough time to concentrate on meeting relationship demands which easily lead to marriage.

I have not included items like “trust” and “bad character” because these only affect girls that decided not to pretend as others do. Most people only come to realize the real person they have married as soon as they have landed in that point of no return (not intending to be offensive).

I also want to note that I have written the above, based on the fact that I understand your “boyfriend” is not your “suitor” until he hands the bottle over to your people and that the average suitor today is still never as rich as what we see in nollywood movies but just okay. Mind you when he is super rich, he is not ready or marriable, when he is marriable; he is not super rich and when he is both super rich and marriable; he must have inherited and will be controlled by his family (there is no free lunch anywhere!)

I want to read your views on the above or other reasons added to it.

Remember, please read only and enjoy to cool your keyboard (if you have nothing good to write)

I would be happy to get views from mature singles

No firebacks, no bad-mouth, no unnecessary quoting lets all do a research on this by getting the best views and arriving to facts that may help heal the problem.

I had a bad Wednesday night and a sober Thursday for our UCL knockout but beginning to believe everything is working out for our good.

You know how we have enjoyed watching our whites do the samba in the last two seasons.

He has stated (in an interview) that if they still want him, he will remain. This is because I believe he wants to prove a point with us.

The players love him, the president believes in him, let’s pray others do and will not show him the door.

You could see passion in him as he knelt in the touchline during the penalty kick, you could see the burning fire in his eyes promising to be back.

Remember, we all know what happens when Baba Special One begins to get too much trophies: he flies away like a sparrow just when you begin to enjoy his whistling.

If you loved the season with Jose Mario Dos Santos Felix Mourinho then you must be strong to give up the European Cup to have him stayed longer.

We do not want our pen-and-paper-calculating-wizard to leave us soon.

Let’s still rejoice a little despite our defeat and pray this works to the end and he stays next season.

Remember we have finally succeeded in ending the long reign of our “B” brothers and pushing them only "B" or second to us and I am sure this will become very clear by next season.

Cry no more and let’s pray things worked out smoothly and he picks good legs in the market (as he is known for) to make this 90% team quality turn 99’.

We can do treble next season by holding to and perfecting the spirit, quality and what we’ve got now.

Or what do you think?

you can build an agreement that whenever you meet each other in a time you know you have nothing to say or do, you two should just keep on whatever you doing without even a hi and when this happens, the other must not raise any issue on that anytime later.

This is the best form of relationship and if these ones marry after dating for some years, they hardly separate cus they both would have known most of what they need to about the way they live their lives

I must put one notion straight here:

I love this boy as well as I do for his mother but I want you all to realize that the reason I have not (also) impregnated any girl is not that I am weak, but that I take the pain to be cautious in plans (during that sweetest moments) to ensure I make no blunders in life...I know "two wrongs don't make a right" but I DID NOT COME TO EARTH TO CORRECT A MISTAKE THAT WILL TAKE MY HEAD...this boy's father is a graduate like me and earning money somewhere, leaving me to mend the heart he shattered and to still babysit his son till he returns...IF HE'S NOT BEEN TOO CAREFUL ABOUT THIS BUSINESS, WHY ME?...do not forget I muted other girls that wanted me for this girl...why tell me I must love all that goes with her? or I must see it as charity? do you realize this is still a controversial and very sensitive issue and I will be call "busy-body" someday?

If you say I should take him as my son or brother, ask yourself "is that what he truly is?!"

Let's take this illustration: When you packed into a new apartment and find a car with tires down, will you start driving it straight to the vulcanizer and to the mechanic (for charity) or you'll attempt contacting the owner to ask how far?

My resolution as at now (inspired from your contributions):
If I must do without the agreement, then I must stop seeing her and know it is purely charity for a family, but if I must then I must be sure I am not stealing another man's son.

Having said all this; it depends on what you really want and a low key wedding is not for everybody. I didnt have any fairytale wedding dream scenario in my head whilst growing up and had attended only a few weddings before mine so I didnt have lots of wedding experience and to be honest I wasnt really bothered.

I wont lie, I sometimes attend these glamorous weddings and for a split second wish that I had a big carnival one too, but its just a split second thought and it vanishes almost immediately.
