From your post you strike me as a deep thinker, a philosopher and an ambitious person. Kudos. I am all of that and more. . My brain makes me more complicated than complication itself. |

Adulthood is a trap. Don't be in a hurry to grow. Relax and enjoy your youth because a time will come you will wish those days back.
Don't ever procrastinate. And don't over think every action. Take a step immediately an idea comes. Better to try and fail.
Visions without actions remain mere dreams, so move and believe in your ability and God will reward your effort. |

pocohantas: Sadly, what she said is the truth, though I can't confirm the percentage. She didn't say they are not happy, she said they don't love their husbands. I won't even argue if she says lots of Nigerian wives are not happy
Some women marry the most capable man that can be a good father at least (being a good husband is another story, being both doesn't come easy). Men just hook up with the one that's willing to submit and care for the home.
In the long run, the woman finds happiness in her kids. The man finds it in every other external factor. True |

That is discrimination. Seriously, Makes me remember Sister Eunice. Couldn't sing to save her life. She stayed over at our place one weekend and prematurely ended the morning devotion with her bad singing. Laughter no gree us pray again. A small Redeemed branch close to my home keeps me shaking my head in wonder. It's like a gathering of the worst singers in the world. Looks like everyone competes to prove how terrible their voices are. . All of them sing different keys at different pitches with different lyrics. Sounds like a group of drunken seamen. God forgive me biko. |

THE CURRENT APC-LED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAD EXPECTED A MASS ACTION FROM NIGERIAN YOUTHS SUCH AS PROTESTS AND THE LIKES THAT CAN CONVEY THEIR GRIEVANCES TO THE POWERS THAT BE.
ON THE CONTRARY, THE YOUTHS AREN'T ABLE TO DO NOTHING. IF PEOPLE LIKE OUR MUSICAL ICON, TUFACE IDIBIA IS ANYTHING TO MENTION HERE AS A NIGERIAN YOUTH: THEN;
NIGERIAN YOUTHS ARE NOT ONLY LAZY BUT DOCILE, INCOURAGIOUS AND SELL OUTS TOO.

Family › Re: My Husband Has A Different Surname To The One He Uses.. by megareal: 11:35am On May 14, 2018 |
Originally, my question was about nothing other than the name but many of you here gave me food for thought so let me look now.
Who's paying his visa fees? I will be because in the last few years we have paid to:
Bury his grandma Bury his uncle Bury his sister Put his niece through college Bury his father (3 months ago) Bury his stepmothers mother (1 month ago) and he sends most of his salary back home after our bills are paid.
Does he travel to Nigeria often?
No, in 8 years he's gone twice. Never to a funeral.
His website is active. I can fill a cart with high cost items and pay for them BUT he says the business isn't up and running?
He came to the UK from The Gambia where he had been living til he came here with his first wife.
Children - he has 2 girls with someone else, not a wife, not a Nigerian or British woman. This lady and her children disappeared before I met him. The police were looking for her when he was having immigration problems but that seems to have stopped. One of his female friends once asked him how that lady was enjoying living in Nigeria - he denied that she was there and insisted that she just took the two very young children and returned to her own country.
His phone - both are always in his pocket. Both are always on silent. He takes many calls in the bathroom. I discovered a third phone and asked him about it. He didn't deny having it and even tried to make me think I'd forgotten he had it by saying my younger daughters always call him on that number - they don't, I checked. Asked him to show me his phones a few days ago and he refused (assured me there was nothing fishy going on)
Now, we have always talked about any such issues. We don't fight over them. And he usually has a plausible explanation no matter what the issue and mostly it's a' cultural or traditional' explanation which I can't dispute because as many here have proved to me, if you ask his fellow countrymen anything, they mostly take up the defensive for him and accuse the wife of being bad.
Why did I wait 8 years to start questioning him?
Only recently has he seemed to be not who I thought he was. Lady, you are being scammed by a specialist. You are helping him by funding his other life in Nigeria. Guy is a patient dog who wants to use you for papers. The above is evidence enough. |
Family › Re: My Husband Has A Different Surname To The One He Uses.. by megareal: 1:12am On May 14, 2018 |
It is a common thing in Nigeria for some family members to have different surnames. In my family, three of us have different surnames, same with hubby. It depends on which ancestor one prefers and sometimes it's only about how right sounding the name is.
The red flag here is him opening a business without informing you. Dig a little deeper (surreptitiously) to be sure he's not using you.
As for the burial announcement of his father, I guess he is using the general family name just to identify. Sometimes, it's just because of the fear of 'village people'. |

Rubbish!
It is reasoning like this that makes our young women think that their highest achievement in life is getting married and having babies.
I've risen to the post of General Manager twice in companies I've worked with all under one year of being there.
While pregnant, I worked harder than most and any day I was out for antenatal, the company was in chaos. A woman was created to multi-task, it's just that some husbands want their wive's attention zeroed in on the family. They just don't like the inattention and competition.
Few are out there with supportive men and are making it. |
