Why is Okorocha touring prisons? ![]() |
Guestlander: ![]() By next week it will be on the lip of every Ibo around the world that they own 75% of Lagos GDP. They are not governor yet and they are convinced they own Lagos. Imagine what they will say and do if Lagos falls asleep and allow Ibo become governor. ![]() |
Henry Louis Gates Jr.CreditJillian Tamaki The scholar and host of the PBS series “Reconstruction,” whose latest books are “Dark Sky Rising” and “Stony the Road,” is a productive beach reader: “I read more during two months on the Vineyard … than I do the entire rest of the year.” What books are on your nightstand? I have two nightstands, one by my bed and one by my recliner in our family room, from which I grade the weekly one-page assignments for my graduate seminar on the Harlem Renaissance. I keep, on the nightstand by my bed, the reading assignment for my next class. On the stand by the recliner, I keep three or four books that I’m reading either as part of a research project, for a book I’m writing or a documentary film I’m making, or because I’ve read a review about it. More and more, I read to write or read to teach. James Weldon Johnson’s early modernist novel, “The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man,” is by my bedside because I’m teaching it next week. On the table by my recliner sit David W. Blight’s biography of Frederick Douglass, Jeffrey C. Stewart’s biography of Alain Locke, Holly Goldberg Sloan and Meg Wolitzer’s “To Night Owl From Dogfish,” Sarah Ladipo Manyika’s novel “In Dependence” (in galleys) and Toni Morrison’s “The Source of Self-Regard,” her new book of essays. What’s the last great book you read? It’s a tie between W. E. B. Du Bois’s “Black Reconstruction: An Essay Toward a History of the Part Which Black Folk Played in the Attempt to Reconstruct Democracy in America, 1860-1880,” and Eric Foner’s “Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution, 1863-1877.” What’s your go-to classic? And your favorite book no one else has heard of? The book I never tire of rereading is Wole Soyinka’s tragedy “Death and the King’s Horseman.” The Swedish Academy cited it when he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986. It’s a tragedy in the Aristotelian sense, charting, in an irresistibly beautiful and densely lyrical poetic diction, the rise and fall of the king’s most privileged nobleman or chief over a 24-hour period on what he knows is meant to be the last day of his life. His judgment beclouded by hubris, he mistakes Thanatos for Eros, with the deadliest of consequences. Whereas by day’s end one person should have died, alas the number of dead will total two. “Death and the King’s Horseman” is one of the greatest plays written in the 20th century. It is timeless, a play about being and the will, and the relation of both to the duties of tradition versus desire — the desire to live — without regard to the consequences. Because the tragic hero is so very human, so likable and so compelling, so very much like all of us, this play will, I believe, remain a classic for a very long time. I also read “The Souls of Black Folk,” by W. E. B. Du Bois, every year. |
Tinubu's Daughter Takes Over Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Market As …Igbo traders adopt back home strategies … All traders in Lagos must be under my control – Folashade Tinubu Ojo. Daughter of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress APC and Permanent chairman Lagos State Markets Board Mrs Folashade Tinubu Ojo has ordered the closure of the market on the expansive grounds of the Lagos International Trade Fair complex Tinubu Ojo who succeeded her grandmother Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji as the Iyaloja General of Nigeria, is set to take over the administration of all public and private own markets in the city state of Lagos. Traders in the trade Fair complex most of whom are Igbos had the authorisation of the Federal Government of Nigeria, to set their stalls there, but with the coming to power of APC at the federal level, Tinubu Ojo has gained the control of all markets operating in federal spaces in Lagos. Traders in their thousands on Monday 18th March were shocked, as fierce looking policemen cordoned off the market, enquiry revealed it was on the order of Tinubu Ojo, who directed the market union leaders to report to her Ikeja Office for required modalities that will lead to the reopening of the market. Report made available to this medium reveals that markets unions in the state, who hitherto were not under Tinubu Ojo’s control are preparing to go and conference with her to avoid the fate that befell “trader fair” traders. Report has it that markets mostly dominated by the Igbos and other none natives in Lagos will undergo relocation especially Ladipo and Computer Village markets immediately to forestall the deployment of the electoral strength of the Igbo traders in future elections in Lagos State. Tinubu Ojo a card carrying member of APC takeover of markets is a fall out of the general elections. Most Igbo businessmen in Lagos are sympathetic toward the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and her candidates. Despite the carrot and stick approach made by the APC Lagos State chapter to court the Igbos, they stood firm with PDP. APC thugs were captured on video snatching ballot boxes, burning ballot papers, threatening the Igbo residents, sternly warning them not to dabble into politics in Lagos, or risk economic clamp down, during the presidential and national assembly elections. So massive was this attack that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had to conduct reruns in these areas. This move however scared the Igbo stock resident in the state, who collectively agreed to abandon their civic rights in subsequent elections in Lagos State, due to xenophobic attacks on them in the two window, between the presidential and gubernatorial elections. The Senator representing Lagos Central Remi Toritsheju Tinubu, the wife of the National Leader and Folashade Tinubu Ojo’s step mother was captured on video telling a disabled Igbo man who beged for a handout that she and her family no longer trust the Igbos, since they know they do not vote APC. Now that Tinubu Ojo has bared her fang, how it will play out remains to be seen as the Igbo merchants in Lagos contributes 75 percent of the state gross domestic product. However the Igbo Mandate Union has vowed to mitigate all steps to neutralise Igbo interests in Lagos and has ordered her members to stop buying lands in Lagos and Ogun State. All manufacturing concerns of the Igbos in Lagos will be moved gradually to the South East states. . All businesses of the Igbos must have branches also in the South East among other back home strategies to be explored. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thenigerianvoice.com/amp/news/276913/tinubus-daughter-takes-over-lagos-international-trade-fair.html |
Chief Victor Oye, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), says the 2019 elections in Nigeria constituted a tragedy for the Igbo. He said although his party did well in the elections, his people should not have put all their eggs in one basket. According to Oye, the people should have given 40 per cent of their votes to President Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking in an interview published by The Punch newspaper on Sunday, he said: "The last election was a tragedy for our people. I was among those who spoke against putting all our eggs in one basket. My idea was that if we could give President (Muhammadu) Buhari about 40 per cent, then, the balance could go to anyone who we so much loved. "But today, we have lost out. It was that mistake that we made on February 23 that is having serious impact on our people in Lagos. The people there voted for a party they saw as theirs and didn’t want Ndigbo to do otherwise. When you go to Rome, behave like Romans." http://saharareporters.com/2019/04/07/2019-elections-tragedy-igbo-people-says-apga-chairman |
tymicjay77:Buhari is the President of every Nigerian. He expects opposition from the defeated party but the backers of that party are abandoning to form opposition, instead are demanding positions they are not entitled to. Ibos in APC will get positions if they are qualified for it. If you defected from another party to APC you do not qualify above a loyalist who was present when the party formed. If you are just coming into Senate or HoR, or had break in your membership, you are not qualified above someone who has been in there continously for over ten years. Simple! |
CORRECTMAN788:Why didnt you feed your 27 destitutes Fashola deported to East? Why did you instruct them to go back to Lagos and find their survival? |
shugabasbn:Each state plays its own politics the way it suits. This is how Lagos does it. Eko for Show! ![]() |
iammo:I pity Ibo should Jagaba die (May God spare his life and give him longevity) and his position is filled by another Yoruba. Ibos think Tinubu is their opposition, they will find out. I hope Aregbeshola becomes the new SW APC Leader after Tinubu. Ibo go find out. Bendel left West region for the wrong reasons. Soon after that they found out Ibo was behind the plan. They wanted to cut MidWest out of West and then subdue all the people, including the Oba, to answer under Ibo authority in Asaba. This is why they claimed it Biafra territory during war. If they had succeeded and gained Biafra Oba of Benin today would be speaking Ibo and bowing to an Ibo Igwe. Thank God it failed. Still they were not satisfied. You see now what they did during IBB....they cut Delta out of Bendel. Ibo is a political risk. They dont wish anyone well. |
GMbuharii:First who is your enemy? Second, since when did Yoruba tell you it has an enemy? Third, why are you powerless to use political alliance to change what is wrong, why should militancy be the solution? |
GMbuharii:Stop calling on heaven in vain dude. You hide behind other ethnicities to bash Yoruba and when your game is exposed you are calling to heaven. Na heaven send you to bash Yoruba? |
raumdeuter:Wow! You killed it bro! You dropped a bomb on it!! ![]() |
iammo:This is beyond rational understanding. Before Tinubu Ibo was nobody in Lagos, they lived in fear and suspicion. Tinubu liberated them and convinced the Elders that they will not be a problem. Look at it now. Tinubu himself cannot come out openly and apologize for failing to heed the Elders warning about Ibos. His experiment with them failed and he is now forced to question their loyalty. Thats why he is devising a new strategy to contain them and put them back in cage the Elders had them locked in. Nobody is anti-Tinubu more than Ibo. If you want someone to destroy Tinubu permanently give the job to Ibo, he will do it free. Thats how much they detest him. But na lie....Yoruba is standing firmly behind Jagaban. |
raumdeuter:Lol... ![]() They dont reflect, theyve shot out all toes on the feet. |
searchlight:Bro, let me tell you truth. SE was preoccupied with Yoruba entire 4yrs. Your loss in 2015 pained you deeply that you spent 4yrs opposing Yoruba and you neglected to oppose government in Abuja. Your aim in 2019 was to use Atiku victory to avenge your 2015 loss. That failed. You Ibos are now all over internet looking for a Northerner that can champion your cause for vengeance. This is your aim. You have left politics aside.....you are now chasing vengeance and plotting to hire Northerner to do your dirty job against Yoruba. You will fail again! Get in the competition and fight your own battle, see if you have the power to defeat or stop Yoruba's train of progress. We will crush you! |
kingslly:These youth corpers have the destiny of your multi millionaires scattered across Lagos in their hands. They make the law that can determine what happens in Alaba, or in Oshodi, Ago or in Aguda, if they like they can revoke your shop contracts and reaward them...they can even redistrict your communities and break up your voting strength. ![]() If you continue to antagonize us we go take politics raise a new majority and make you subservient to the new power. ![]() |
May his soul rest in peace! Condolence to Benins over loss of their Prince. |
Oshigun:Absolutely Correct! Yes sir!! Why cant we have at the national level what Lagos enjoys at State level? Tinubu, Lagos Governing Council, Elders of Lagos, Oba in Council they act collectively as NGO to partner the party, the Governor, Judiciary, HoAssembly and the Civil Service to make the affairs of government continous and progressively improving. If a Governor leaves the State does not stop functioning. The people in Lagos run a tight order and everybody falls in line. In fact, theyhave done it so well that it has now become an expectation. So when a person emerges as candidate for Governor it is not questioned because there is trust, the party has proven itself beyond suspicion. At Federal Level we have Executive Council, Elders Council, Traditional Leaders Council, thay are the NGOs. At this point in our democracy why are we still having battles anout who will lead the People's house? You correctly answered it. It is ingrained as a habit by those who greedily see the position as chance to rob the people they were told to go and represent. They are saboteurs. APC must bring out the whip! |
MadamExcellency: ![]() Are you denying that we need strong hands in this country? Past governments institutionalized "corruption" and chaos. APC has a mission....to institutionalize "integrity" and order! May God Almighty help them. MadamExcellency say AMEN! ![]() |
OGHENAOGIE:Please stop commenting on political matters until you have studied how goverment and parties in democracy operate. Im shocked to read the bold. There is a contract in civil society and its between the powerless people and a powerful government. There is need to balance the relationship. Counter-balances are set up to act as voice of presence for people interest so the government does not oppress them. That counter-balance is what Legislature is. Thats why we call it People's House. The Legislature is not just to police government, they are also to cooperate with government and make its social policies smooth and to author laws that will improve society and encourage its growth. How do people choose who will represent them? There is risk. Those you hire to protect you could turn out to sabotage your interest and make delivery of good progress difficult and stunt growth. So the system introduces brokerage, or a safety-net to protect against saboteurs. Partisan Parties are the brokers (Insurance, so to speak). The safety-net people have to ensure that representation is satisfactory. When people are not satisfied they change their brokers and vote a different party at next election. This is why on ballot paper you voting the party...the true power broker! I hope you understand the relationship now. On opposition, I will let you do your own study and learn what it is. I cant feed everything to you. You will become a lazy youth. ![]() |
MadamExcellency:We are talking about APC and you throw PDP in, the two separate ideologies about social progress are incompatible. Will you deny that APC enforced discipline in states where primaries held? APC won smoothly the states that did primaries, the ones that refused had a very tough time reclaiming victory, in fact many of them lost to opposition. Another name for discipline is process or orderliness or structured. Those who love chaos, disorderliness and failure detest when the word discipline is mentioned. Look at how Amosun ended. He snubbed his nose at party discipline. A very promising Governor, an executive of the second wealthiest state in Nigeria. Squandered his transition. Compare with Lagos and Ambode's acceptance of party supremacy...the party and Elders of Lagos have met and reconciled with him...in fact they are sponsoring his NextLevel. Party supremacy and orderliness in People's house is a must! We must bring discipline to the people's house! Those who do not want an ordered society can step... |
“There is no state or city in this country that can boast of 100 per cent piped borehole water supply, none.”Bore hole is actually a danger to communities. What we should have is a water works (production, treatment, supply) as part of state infrastructures. The people first failed their governments by demanding for road and bridges and the government also failed the people by neglecting what people need and responding to what they want by making bridge, flyover and road the signature of achievement. Meanwhile there is no clean and safe water to drink. |

StOla:Ignore some comments. News fabricated in village. |
I believe Oshiomhole is serious about enforcing party discipline, and I believe Tinubu when he said those not willing to abide by party supremacy can leave and join other parties. APC is the party to set things right in this country and begin a marshall recovery for this country. Wishing Gbajabiamila well and a successful outcome. |
Congratulations to the incoming members! |
Atiku should better face front to his next defection. Which party would he like to hop to next? ![]() |
Quorax:Shut up jare! Una don turn northerners to deities. They enjoy it sef. They stay back, silent and unbothered....then they come out and speak some irrational nonsense....the whole Southeast panic and rush to internet to open threads and glorify the spewed thrash. ....and these are people you label backward. They control your emotions over there in East. |
forgiveness:You can see that NPN was North/South, NPP was South/North. It was only Awo that went South/South. Yet they hate this Awo with a passion. ![]() When they are cornered they will begin looking for rescue from North. But North is aware of their hidden agenda. |
TonyeBarcanista:Same to you bro! ![]() |
