Tribune Online gathered that the truck was turned back and led to the tollgate between Ogun and Lagos states.

When contacted, TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the developement, saying the truck and its occupants were travelling to an unknown destination.

For every truck intercepted and found with hidden persons sneaking Southward, I wonder how many trucks make it through undetected and what their number of successfully smuggled migrants might mean for South in few months to come.

Lagos remains no man land, lagos was captured from Binis by the British and British sand filled the lagos we know today built it and transfer it to Nigeria as its capital, Nigeria develop lagos with Niger Delta oil money from where the white people stopped.

Even Awolowo recognized that and said that if the SW become independent that the status of lagos will determined by different countries that emerge out of Nigeria.

I believe she has a strong point on her grievance. It is frustrating that we are far behind in digital record keeping and centralized records database.

To address her immediate issue she will need to get clarity from multiple points - particularly foreign school and their embassy - on how to proceed with a passport with less than six months validity.

Lagos was capital from 1914 to 1991, that's 77 years of swallowing the lion share of other regions resources such as groundnut, palm oil, crude oil.

Infact it swallowed the lion share of crude oil from other people's land for more than 30 years as capital city.
This development attract other Nigerians, today yorubas are claiming they singlehandedly developed lagos which is a big lie.

Lagos is no-man's land, other tribe's resources were used to build and develop it for 77 years.
Yoruba produced palm oil and crude oil...plus cocoa, the most expensive export commodity. If you want to talk about money input Yoruba share of the earnings in 1 year outpaces what Ibos produced in 10yrs.

Nwachukwu was the secretary of Igbo Union but then claimed Lagos is no man's land. He said it belonged to all Nigerians. grin

Lagos is what has kept Ibo imprisoned in Nigeria. They want to break out....but their attachment to Lagos is too strong for them to break free. In fact, their attachment to Lagos is at the root of why they are deficient in development back home.

Nwachukwu did not care about history of Lagos, he was enamored with the beauty and development of the city and he wanted ownership of it, by fire by force.

As much Ibos, over the ages, have cried about Lagos is no mans land, I wouldn't be surprised if the Ibo coup did not have ownership of Lagos as a contention. These people will kill to own it. grin

Ibo was notorious for intimidating minorities and forcing its language on them. On entering Benin and planting flag for their new Biafra Republic the first instruction to the Edos was to prepare to learn Bible in Igbo. Can you imagine if they had not been pushed out of that territory, Edos would today be speaking and writing in Ibo. It is safe and fair to theorize that similar intimidation of the Ikwerres happened in a past time, particularly that the regional seat of power and administrative authority was in Ibo hands.

The missionaries also helped make Ibo the lingua franca. In their zeal to spread religion and win converts Isuama Ibo was adopted as the language of the bible for natives. All peoples whether Ibo or not in the vicinity or catchment area where modes of dressing and worship was same, the missionaries and the colonialists banded them together under a single authority to ease administration and social order. If there were twenty disparate people and cultures within clusters of similar customs they were not creating twenty kingdoms or administration to address the unique cultures.....instead they dumped them together under a single heirarchy, language and province. The same happened to people in Middle belt lumped under the Zaria Emirate even though they were not Hausas and did not share customs and practices.

Ikwerre might therefore have been a victim of both missionary.colonial expediency as well the Ibo notoriety for intolerance on diversity.

Politics › Re: Why Fela Refused To Help Nelson Mandela by MetaPhysical: 11:32am On May 10, 2020
Whether Fela was right in ignoring the oppression of blacks in South Africa is debatable.
But one thing is certain: he could have helped tremendously in releasing Mandela and
ending apartheid sooner than it did.
This is strong opinion.

Fela's songs is applicable to the Nigerian political solution, not anywhere else. Musicians and their songs did not free Mandela. Threat of political sanctions freed Mandela. Fela is creative in response to his environment. SA is not an environment he was familar with to create song for. Do not critique Fela unjustly.

On the issue of renewing passports during lockdown. It is related with Federal guidelines. What is the guideline from Ministry of Interior and the Directorate of Immigration?

If for instance Immigration officers in Nigeria have direction to stop work and observe lockdown, That will apply as well to Immigration attaches in embassies abroad.

Bolatit123:
You are deviating from the topic. We are not talking about national database here. Nigerian immigration has the data of every Nigerian with an international passport. They should use it to reproduce or renew passports in this period instead of frustrating people. Go through posts above, you'll discover that a lot of people are in this problem right now. If something is not done urgently, they'll be calamity.
I understand what you say. To get us to that point you proposed we need an improvement in the process. Immigration is not by itself, it ties in with other disparate records on security and sovereingty. With one infrastructure you can solve the immigration improvements, customs, census, national ID, Vehicle registry, and a host of others. The same system will address all the different workflow for those other agents and each dept will have its designated portal. At the end of the deployment for that improvement we would have ended up with a central records database.

Immigration alone is not going to embark on such project due to cost. To find a way to fund it they will end up laying people off. It is poor people in the uniform that will suffer, not those with elite privileges.

But if all the agencies that benefit from the improvement share in the project, the cost distribution is light and affordable. Like I said, one system will take care of about ten or more federal agencies.

Their constitutional rights in Lagos is loyalty and appreciation for what Tinubu has done to support their growth in Lagos. Ibo was an underdog in Lagos prior to 1999, they had zero voice. Tinubu gave them voice. They owe him loyalty and honor, thats their only right as far Lagos is concerned. He shouldnt even ask them to vote for APC, they should be the ones declaring voluntarily for APC. grin grin

Bolatit123:
You are not considerate here. It takes a lot for an ordinary hustling student to process visa to a nearby country just to renew a passport that could be done with a twinkle of eye. My friend spent a lot of money to secure a nearby country's visa, booked air ticket, paid for accommodation and still couldn't go because of Covid-19. She lost everything.

Her Indian friends have advised her to do it online as other countries now do but will Nigerian government permit it? Nobody is ruling out the processing fees. You have her data already in your system. Why all these unnecessary protocol and humiliations? The girl in question is at the verge of suicide. Other people including students are in this situation right now. How do you think they will feel about their country?

Modes move this to the front page. Something should be done urgently.
You do know that India has a national records database, correct? This makes processing of biodata records possible.

The reason Trump put Nigeria on travel ban is due to lack of such central records, which makes it extremely difficult to process bio-profile on intending applicants.

For the same reason, the information we need, wehther at passport office, national ID card office, INEC office, vehicle registration office, insurance records, and so on......to support the type of efficiency you demand are simply lacking for Nigeria. You are talking about passport because thats your immediate need. What about other needs area?

So it is a bigger problem than you understand. To imagine it in a better scale, consider that Indians can pretty much surf internet 24hrs of the day. In Nigeria we cannot. Why, after all we have phones and laptops like they do? Bandwidth resource, consistent power, data affordability, quality of service. So it is more than just having phones and laptops, backend resources are unreliable and non-dependent.

Apply that scenario to the issue of passport. You will understand the problem and the relationship to job security.

Abi, are you guys no longer part of Nigeria that you have already chickening out of 2023 race...

Mind your region and let us mind ours. Enough of Tinubu this, Osinbajo that, Yoruba those..

As usual, I am expecting your bashing which changes nothing..
Ibos are not blessed with intrigues. What they know is propaganda.

Propaganda is best effective when there is a pull and push interaction....or a active probe and feedback via chatter. This is why they are noisy. They throw out a lot of noise hoping to bait and get feedback. The feedback serves as their input for next line of action. Without a feedback from opponent they become agitated and unsettled.

Observe here in Nairaland when they open thread to provoke Yoruba and we ignore it. Soon after you will see about five or six new threads around the same goal. They need our response and the longer we shun the more unsettled they become.

Tinubu is very intriguing. Unpredictable and cold...no one knows if he sees and hears everything said about him. Why is he silent? He unsettles Ibos. They don't know how to approach his matter because they are not privileged to feedback from him. grin

They predict Obasanjo very well.....but they are scared of Tinubu. grin
Politics › Re: Breaking News! Many Nigerians Whose International Passports Are About To Expire by MetaPhysical: 9:19am On May 10, 2020
OP,
In business language this is called "process mechanization". Two things will happen when you mechanize, you gain efficiency but you end up with redundancy and must lay off the hands previously engaged in the production tasks.

Some will say why lay them off, you could absorb them in other function areas. Ok. You are transferring inefficiencies from one production area to another by doing so.

The strategy for mechanized process is around funding. New technology, security and resources have to be procured and deployed to support the new method. How do you fund it? By identifying wastages around the product and cutting them off. It always end up being the human resource that is let go.

Your idea for improvement is smart and forward looking, be careful asking for mechanized product to replace manual tasks, it has consequences on the kitchen table of many households. grin
