I wonder what the american reaction would be if russia should start holding large scale military drills in cuba or any other nearby socialist state and when the usa complain, they will fly nuclear capable jets over the usa. The funny thing is that the usa is involved in active development and testing of missiles yet uses it as an excuse to attack north korea. The americans should stop wasting their money on weapon and needless wars and start working on their badly war battered economy. Just google on increasing poverty in usa to see the horror. I initially wanted to travel to the usa for advanced study and work but after doing my research, i have come to conclude that our image of the american economy is a false impression based on continuos media propaganda. Most hard working graduates in nigeria actually enjoy a better standard of living than their counterparts in the usa. It's only the top 1% that gains from this wars cos they own the defense companies. Haliburton(owned by the vp to george bush) alone have made billions from the war in iraq. I did my service in niger state and knows for sure that aliyu is a talkative that wants to be in the news all the time, so i will take this with a pinch of salt until i start hearing how many ppl ware arrested and how much recouped from them. The gov is not interested at all in the educational advancement of the state. He wont recruit teachers, pays them pea nuts and pays coppers 3k a month even though we constitute like 99% of all the teaching staff in the state especially in the vast rural areas. Also the few teachers around barely understands english or don't at all while many non indigenes teaching there where thrown out using qualification as an excuse. There is also no seriousness and grand truancy on the part of the teachers and subsequently students.

CS is much more than software. I agree that many of our lecturers are deficient though, but luckily, IT is a field that gives the student the opportunity to learn on their own.
Many CS grad in Nigeria are plain lazy and we don't have an entrepreneur culture to spur on the rest.

my dear, most nigerian grads have no biz being in school in the fourst place,even the supposedly intelligent ones are totally clueless. I have a friend who made fourst class and was retained as a graduate assistant lecturer while pursuing her masters in environmental mgt. She was spending wks solving statistic with hand for her research. I suggested that she should use spss but she said that it can't run the stats at the department required confidence level, i tried to explain to her that it could be changed in settings or she use another package but she refused. I then told her to hack up an application by her self since she have been taking classes in fortran as part of her program but she keep dodging the topic, clearly making an A in that fortran class does not translate to knowing her to use it to solve even the simplest of problems. Both her and her supervising professor have spent all their career running stats by hand and are not adventurous enough to try something else. I just collected what brought me back to school and left them to continue in their darkness
