madridsta007:
There are successful and well mannered black ladies in the West. However, being “well-mannered” as defined by the West is different from being “well-mannered” as defined by a “homegrown Nigerian man”.

A homegrown Nigerian man expects his black lady to love him and their kids, cook in the home, be homely to his friends and family, etc. A well-mannered Nigerian lady brought up in Nigeria is likely to provide this. However, the “well-mannered” black lady whose growth has been in the West does not think like this. Hardly. Divorce, disrespect, “alone time”, etc, are norms you have to deal with. Unless you want to deceive yourself, that’s just how it is.

It’s up to you. But these are the risks. Well-mannered Nigerian brought up ladies have their own risks too; but the risks on their side are less.
Other nationalities and races are good too; but we are talking about the “homegrown Nigerian man”, who wants to probably eat Eba and egusi and not salad and tomatoes for lunch. The “homegrown Nigerian man” will want to scold his child for misbehaving; the woman will want to “tell the child off”.

Can you deal with these?
Homegrown Nigerian men, can’t deal. Unless they want to lie to themselves. They will pretend and wish they married differently.
cheesy No.

If you go there and carry a peasant woman who grew up with some kind of inveterate ideology and refuses to accommodate yours, that does not make the idea of marrying a foreigner or foreign-born lady totally out of the question.

Are "scolding" and "telling [them] off" not one and the samehuh

A foreign woman who is actually interested would love to cook all those things you mentioned, come back with you and more.

I have such women as in-laws and they cant act like this. It depends on the persons orientation, background and also how you presented yourself in the first instance.

Some men will deliberately pretend and downplay their cultural perspective in the relationship so that they wont be sounding like "bushman". Pretending they like tomato salad and roast potato cheesy instead of telling the woman what it is they want. Later on they will begin to complain

The kind of woman you are describing is a narrow-minded or culturally restricted working or lower-middle class who was never interested in embracing your side of the story in the first place and felt that they were helping you out by marrying you. Those ones who will "absorb" and colonise one into their own family because of the way he presented himself.

When asked about Nigeria he will say "Mtchew, dont talk to me about that stupid country!" So how does he expect the person to be seeing him as anything other that an object of pity?

At least the part about "disrespect" is what I can understand because culturally, we have different ideas about what constitutes "respect" and at times we espouse some particularly misogynistic elements which would be difficult for an outsider (as it is for most of us insiders) to tolerate. A so-called "homegrown Nigerian lady" is somewhat conditioned more to accept certain realities, even if they should not be.

But generally what you wrote does not obtain for all foreign women, especially culturally sensitive ones. I can tell by the way youre describing it, the type of person you ran into lmao.

He who pays the piper dictates the tune. Marriage is woven around power and class interface. Earning power and social class are two main factors I always advise guys to consider before marrying a lady. If she earns more than you and she's from a wealthy family, guys, run for your life. Some ladies, after using their earnings and wealthy family to entice you into marriage, would bite you back with a lifetime controls, blackmails and giving you depression. In fact they would be feeling too big to have sex with you.

See where you missed it all. look above. Immediately after the actual statement that you isolated and quoted, the next sentence starts with "Some ladies". If you were not discursively indolent, you should have realized that with the presence of that indefinite modifier "Some" in the body of that post, the writer does not condemn ALL WEALTHY WOMEN like you have erroneously perceived.

From discursive perspective, you do not isolate a particular utterance from the rest while assessing a writer's main opinion on a subject. Equally, some utterances are mere exaggerations or overstatements just like the aspect which you bolded and quoted and should not be used to represent main opinion. In fact all exaggerations or overstatements are not valid opinions.

However, I don't expect everyone to be technical on how to deduce a writer's point of view. Since you fall into that category, you can drop your last words and let's move on from this topic for good.
midnighter:
I know you followed it with "some ladies" to qualify your statement but the actual stance in itself was wrong.

Is it "dont marry just for wealth" or "avoid wealthy women"? Those are 2 different things.

And by the way, even if the early church lacked the language to express the truth of the triune God before the 4th century (which they didnt completely), it doesnt mean that the Christian faith in and of itself was not originally Trinitarian! If you read the Bible properly with scholarly eyes, you will see the idea of trinity interwoven throughout.

Look here, your problem is that you seem not to have adequate expertise to differentiate between a main statement and supporting statements. I have made it clear that the actual statement you quoted out of context is a mere exemplification.

'run for your life' in the actual statement is an exaggeration. No exaggeration should be taken to represent a valid point of view of a writer.
I actually went back and read through the exchange to see if I was mistaken, but Im not.

I didnt take your exaggeration out of context because the following sentences used to support it still painted a bad picture of wealthier women, which you obfuscated again in your subsequent comment by erroneously adding another issue. It was later on that you clarified what you meant, which I accepted already.

And dont mind that indolent blaggard who is encouraging you in your folly, his support means nothing cheesy

How much critical thought have you put into your Christian faith, if I may ask. I would be specifically interested in any rational explanation of the following ideas -

1. The Trinity (if you believe it)
2. The doctrine of salvation by the sacrificial death of Jesus of Nazareth (if you believe it).

Secondly your last words above mentioned willingness to consider an alternative point of view. I would be very interested to know just how willing you are to consider alternate points of view yourself, thank you.
Ive discussed the doctrine of salvation in the thread already, if you care to read in your spare time. What about the Trinity?

Not being able to rationally explain something does not mean that one hasnt thought critically about it before coming to the conclusion that it cant be rationally explained.

So even if I cant explain it, it doesnt make any difference. If youre waiting for me to explain how God can be one in three persons, I cant! Nobody can explain it fully cheesy Happy?

Thats not the same as somebody quoting something out of context and then literally refusing to check what its actually about or to accept that it has a different connotation to what they think it does. Or at least accommodating what I said and taking it from there on principle, even if you are not convinced.

At your second point; what is your point? I have read through the thread and seen things that I dont necessarily agree with but can level with; the statement you picked out was in reference to some conversations I saw here and not necessarily every single non-Christian who doesnt agree with me.

You are referring to my statements in terms of faith in general where I was answering another person on the discussion concerning specific issues in here which is why there is a discrepancy between what I said and what you are writing.

So there is no need to be offended on the behalf of the whole of non-Christendom as if I was insulting them, because I wasnt.

1. Lets start with death and disease.

With respect to death, does it not concern you just a litte that at some date in the not too far future, everyone you love will simply simply disappear - to a place and realm you cannot say for sure?

2. Fair enough, although you surely agree there is sufficient distress in the world to raise questions about the motives of the creator.

3. Last I checked, people still suffer death and disease in Egypt and Germany.

4. Last I checked, all human beings die - regardless of how"vast and varied" their experiences are.

5. Not sure I understand this, as my reference to history should make it clear I am not speaking about just "today's terms."

6. I didnt suggest things will always remain the same. Change is constant.

7. Once again my apologies for that jibe. I am over 40 and I dont know anyone of my generation who hasnt seen enough to understand how dark the world is.
1. Yes, it concerns me but in the grand scheme of things, I dont place that much emphasis on it personally because doing so is not particularly fruitful to me at this time.

2. I know that there is distress but mentioning the news is a red herring, because all the news does is capitalise on the distress, mostly for political gain. And in Christianity human suffering is the result of being in a fallen world, which you have already stated that you dont accept. So I dont have issue with the motives of the creator, and you do.

3. and 4. If youre going to keep dismissing the varied nature of life on earth with the fact that at the end, people still die then those 2 points wont mean anything to you. But I personally dont think the fact of death precludes or devalues the phenomenon of rich life experience.

5. + 6. So what were you suggesting? If change is constant then what is the essence of emphasising the ubiquity of human misery?

7. It's okay but truly I dont think this conversation will be profitable to either of us. I do not have any antidote to the problem of human mortality and you equally wont be able to convince me that the fact of it makes everything else meaningless.

I don’t argue with atheist anymore.... I believe they are necessary....their questioning and doubt will help challenge christaindom and Muslimdom and with time help remove the human-constructed, selfish part of worshipping and honoring God....

China has already started making moves to adjust the Bible and Quran thus avoid banning it so as to reflect more tolerant doctrines over time

the truth is religion which is man made has messed up faith in God..we so called religious people are even found displaying unholy and dis-speakable acts....we have used “God is loving and will forgive” to erase the need for total consecration and holiness which the people of the world should know us for...we just ritually go to church and raise “holy”hands..there’s really no difference btw us and them...in some weird occasions... they are even better than us

...however, God has always been clear. In the book of Isaiah he said that there will come a time no one will force his fellow man to come and meet God, cos we would know in our hearts that he is God and we will be his people.....long before all this religion people just knew there was something greater than them in the universe....I believe that these period that people are becoming less interested in religion, questioning everything is kinda expected and good as it will usher in the phase God talked about in Isaiah ..
Well not all the people commenting are atheists, moreover the problem is not being an atheist but being somebody who refuses to think critically about an issue or consider an alternative point of view.

Some of the responses I have gotten on here were just wildly off the point, not because the person is an illiterate but because they refuse to accommodate my argument.

You can see some of them flaring up over nothing and you can see others point-blank refusing to stick to the topic, just because it doesnt suit their emotions. Isnt that what they accuse so-called "religious fanatics" of doinghuh

Remember that Christians are supposed to be the stupid and irrational ones but if we're so brainwashed, why cant you accept somebodys statement and disprove it without wailing? It should be easy enough

The place you call Middle East today is actually East Africa until the Africans were massacred and driven westwards and elsewhere. Every religious remains found in that part of the globe (Mid East) were the works of ancient Africans stolen, plagiarised and corrupted when bloody Aryans invaded and took over the land, then rewrote and redefined everything. You can keep going there for two million years to come, but Africa will continue to sink deeper and deeper because it's a falsified version of European and Arabic spirituality that you are practising. It will yield nothing other than more corruption, adulteration, degradation, degeneration, devaluation and decomposition of African Universal essence of existence on planet earth.
If we don't retrace our own original accounts and develop and practise it, it's simply an eternal futile merry-go-round effort of vanities. The three Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Islam and Christianity are slave masters' religions imposed on conquered elements (Africans) for global political agendas and empire building. These three religions have NOTHING TO OFFER AFRICA AND AFRICANS. Lastly, what is wrong, remains wrong whether everybody is doing it. Also, what is right remains right whether nobody is doing it.

Its just what you said wondering how the word is terrible. Surely you have read or watched some history, and surely you have watched the news.
No vex, I really am asking these questions from a point of view of sincerity.

PS: Have a look at my old topics on this forum. You will see I am anything but flippant.
This is the problem. I asked you in what way, I mean using what indices are you describing the entire planet as being "terrible".

Watching the news is not the point. You would be indignant at the behaviour of foreign news outlets who insist on painting a bleak picture of Africa. Unfortunate-looking children with distended bellies and flies crawling all over their eyeballs and mouths. My, my, isnt that continent a "terrible" place?

At least you tried a little by mentioning history. At some point, the majority of people in Western Europe were hapless, illiterate peasants eking out some meagre existence riddled with dirt and disease and at another, a golden age of enlightenment in science and medicine swept over the Islamic world. Now, what does Egypt look like today? How does Germany look?

Human experience and endeavour is too vast and varied for you to think you could get away with labelling the whole thing "terrible" and even have the guts to become indignant when somebody asks you to justify it.

You will notice that I quoted that part of your post below your exposition on the "ugliness" of existence, because I am hinting at a larger point. Namely, is it not small-minded to consider the "cesspit of misery" only in today's terms?

I mean I actually want to know, combined with your assertion that God owes us an apology for putting us through this "sadistic experiment", what makes you think that people's lives will always be miserable, all the time when that is so obviously not the case.

Apparently considering the issue holistically makes me a child smh

Imagine a detective who only makes a decision based only on evidence without considering eyewitness testimonies and many other factors that inform wise judgment. That’s how a scientific atheist is - he has never proved beyond reasonable doubt (either to himself or the community) that there isn’t a God. When you ask a science-induced atheist how something came out of nothing? He dwells on the ‘something’ and ignores the ‘nothing’ until the argument is no longer objective. Once one is an atheist by choice, there is little one can do to change him - that battle is the Lord’s. For the OP, he is a contradiction and his reasoning - a-dime-a-dozen type found amongst who enjoy pleasure, is his drive towards atheism.

It is because you considered that actual statement in isolation that's why it appears to you to mean that all wealthy women should be avoided. Sometimes, sentences should not be considered in isolation to deduce the writer's general opinion. If you consider the general sense of the discourse, you will discover that my general opinion is not that all wealthy women should be avoided. That would be an absolutely invalid assertion. Rather I was trying to warn that guys should be cautious about wealthy women, not that all wealthy women are bad. Equally, guys should preferably try as much as possible to marry down their social class.
You are repeating yourself.

As I said before, the general statement that men should try to marry a woman of equal or lower social status from themselves has merit, I just didnt like your use of language in the first instance.

I have already acknowledged that the sentence should not be considered in isolation, however what I am telling you is that writing those particular words in the first place was wrong of you. Look:

cerpvad:
Earning power and social class are two main factors I always advise guys to consider before marrying a lady. If she earns more than you and she's from a wealthy family, guys, run for your life. Some ladies, after using their earnings and wealthy family to entice you into marriage...
"Run for your life" = wealthy women should be avoided, doesnt it? What was your "general opinion", if not that? How will we know what your general opinion is if you implicate yourself by jumping to extremes?

It was not an appropriate statement to make and thats why I pulled you up on it.

Afterwards, you wrote:

cerpvad:
When you pursue a lady and end up marrying her because of her social class and wealth, be ready to face the music whenever it starts playing.
You then mixed up another issue by stating that nobody should chase a woman because of wealth, which is totally different.

I dont disagree with your general stance but your original comment needed more explanation because the tone was too negative and one-sided.

Anybody reading it would conclude that wealthier ladies should be avoided at all costs, which simply isnt true.
