Martinez39: Lol. This statement doesn't make sense. I was only trying to show that the victim mentality you are displaying is a global phenomenon that is why I mentioned USA. Also, I wanted to show that even if women are liberated and give equal rights and opportunities as men, they will still cry victim.
There is nothing holding women back and there is no structure in place to make things easier for men. Everyone, men and women, must work and earn. Even you yourself are a doctor, isn't that equal rights and opportunities? Didn't you earn your MBBS in the same way men did? Was there any structure put in place to make things harder for females or pay them less? Even in your class, aren't there boys that were withdrawn after failing in med school? Where is the male privilege you are talking about? You are liberated enough to lead the life you want yet you cry patriarchy and embrace victimhood. Your argument is illogical and you are being insincere, which is subtracting from your point. That a system may not intentionally have been built to make things easier for men does not mean that it does not inherently disadvantage women. A system could neutrally favour one group over another; does it mean the latter should keep quiet? This bias and posturing is the problem with extremists. And this thread is full of extremists. |

It is not when your partner is down that you trash them, you are meant to cover their unclothedness at that point.
Money is an enabler. I don't know how the man treated his family, most especially the wife when he was the breadwinner because this might be part of the reasons why she is behaving that one.Women are generally very loyal. You are not serious. The woman is handling the financial aspect, since the man can no longer do it. Why cant the man handle at least some of the household chores, since the woman is now "covering his own unclothedness" This is why I dont take you guys serious. Youve been blasting that chick all day yet you dont want him to do anything tangible to ease his problem. Dont you think it may help if the woman comes back to a clean house and the children are already bathed? Notice that I did not mention the "C" word ooo |

RisenPhoenix: When you are in a toxic relationship as a man, it consumes your time, saps your energy and drags you down. Have you heard of the saying: "behind every successful man there's a woman"? Well, that woman is not the type who keeps her husband stressed, she's the one who pulls all the emotional stress away from him and keeps him focused and encouraged on his important tasks. This woman is adding financial value to the relationship, but only in exchange for keeping him stressed and unproductive. He will never grow with her.
I am not writing a script for telemundo here. I am trying to help the op out of his rut. I didnt deny all that. But people are not static or fixed quantities. If you had said something like "air your grievances to her/report her/take a break from her and then divorce if she doesnt show any signs of change," it would have made more sense. But the fact is that what you wrote there was irrational and insensitive. Get a divorce right away after 13 years of marriage and 3 kids without even trying to work on their differences, because you are Jesus Christ who never hurt anybody in his life right? Who are you to say that "he will never grow with her"? Who are you to condemn another person to stagnancy? Do you know how far they have come already? Have you always been perfect, all your life? Smh you are just as bad as the "feminists" you lambaste. No nuance, lateral thinking or creativity whatsoever, just extreme black and white reasoning and rigidity in a bid to appear to have seen what others cannot. The irony is that you havent seen anything, because you are so bent on forcing your own conjectures on other people! |

DuxofMen: There's nothing wrong with being a feminist. It depends on your definition of feminism. One of my colleagues like to announce that she's the most submissive feminist in the world. We all know her, she's hard as nails, very tough, very uncompromising but doesn't joke with her husband. In fact it's a common joke in our office, when she's being obstinate, that we'll call Mr A. to talk to her. She's a deaconness in church and I've heard her say many times, that many of those who propagate feminism, don't know what true feminism is all about. For instance, being a submissive wife is true feminism rather than looking for equality. Thank you! Finally somebody gets it. All is not lost. Thank you You need to see the kind of stupidity people use to quote me in the name of "feminism". DeepSight: Some also insist that we have a pre existence and chose to come here. Whilst this is possible, I am not sure it is something that can be asserted with proof. What we are left with is the scenario where we suddenly find ourselves in this world with no prior memory simply dumped into what is for all purposes a cesspif of misery.
No matter how beautiful you might imagine life to be, aside from the fact that it is pitifully ugly and cruel for other people who form the majority, there is always the spectre of death awaiting us all. Again I know some people insist that there is an after life, but again, who knows this as a fact?
Consequently my question is what right does any creator have to put conscious beings through such misery and for what purpose in which they don't have a say? For me the defense of God's sovereignty is not sufficient because you are speaking of conscious beings here. If the only defense is God's sovereignty, then in the immortal words of Christopher Hitchens, why would we applaud a celestial dictatorship? A celestial North Korea? So by extension, you believe that the majority of people would be better off having never come into existence in the first place? God should only have brought people to life after guaranteeing that their lives would be "good", otherwise what was the point? The world is a terrible place. Sure, you can see beauty here and there, but the overwhelming experience of it is horrifying. Whilst some tend to insist that all the evil or negative experience in the world is a consequence of human excess, this is neither true nor sustainable. Natural disasters, diesease, and the very spectre of our mortality speak enough to this point. "The world is a terrible place" by what index? In what way is it terrible? If you acknowledge that human endeavour is at least partially responsible for the "horrifying experience" then is this not more of an anthropological consideration? Natural "disasters" are actually part of natural cycles and form an important part of process. For example bush fires release vital minerals back into the soil and make the land more fertile, which encourages flora and fauna to flourish. Its just unfortunate that living creatures also end up dying in the process (and contribute their own quota of nutrients back into the soil). So to an extent it is more of a neutral process that we happen to be disadvantaged by than pure and intentional "evil". Just nature blowing her nose. Death is a part of life. Plants and animals are beautiful in their own right, yet are at the same time just tasty food for some other animals. Lack of cell death means you have cancer. Life can be chaotic and meaningless, sure. But positioning death, which can actually be argued to be a neutral phenomenon to some extent, as a reason to reject God is a bit simplistic. |

k4kenny: Yeah I was expecting that. That message was meant for the people at that period of time, not for all of mankind. Why would god wait for thousands of years before sending what you claim is the sole way to salvation? What was the criteria for salvation for the people before Jesus? What did Jesus (peace be upon him) himself say about eternal life?:
John 17:3 Eternal life is knowing there is ONE GOD and Jesus, whom HE HAS SENT.
The way, truth and life simply means he (Jesus, PBUH) has been sent to show the children of Israel the WAY, with the TRUTH and guide them with his LIGHT to the one true God. This can be said for ALL prophets and messengers God sent to all of humanity from the beginning of time. Because God was working according to a plan to restore mankind to Him. Its called "Redemptive history" , if youre interested in researching further. The whole thing was part of a greater purpose. The requirements for people living before Jesus' coming are clearly stated in the Old Testament, so I dont know why youre asking that question. Lol are you serious? You quoted one verse out of context just to twist Jesus' words to suit your purpose; is it what Islam tells you to do? Look at the context of that passage. After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. Like I keep telling people on this thread, if you keep picking and plucking Bible verses just to suit your own mentality, you will never get anywhere. Especially when the person can just open up the Bible and check to see that youve manipulated the whole thing and you actually have no point. Just like if I quote the Qur'an from nowhere 56:35 Surely We have created them a (new) creation, 56:36 So We have made them virgins You would simply think you were talking to an illiterate, right? Acehart: Another issue about creation is the seven day process which the Hebrew text gives. The translation for ”day“ is “Time period”. If you do some form of computer programming, you would know that a time period is never less than zero or greater than infinity. “Time period” is easily the most adjustable parameter and easily the most inconsequential parameter. 6 billion years is within a time period or seven time periods. But you have not gone to great lengths to know this. If God was silent about the time period size, a programmer will know why - it is inconsequential. This is great |

Jesus never said anywhere in the bible that he's the only way to God. Name one verse in your bible where he said that. Most of your theology is not really backed up by the scriptures. You just take a verse and give it an entirely different meaning. Is and not was. Present tense. Jesus is as Abraham was, before Jesus came. John 14:6

You mean the context which preachers use to brainwash people? I asked you direct questions and you never answered them because guess what? they Bible is not straight forward and it is interpreted by a bunch of clergymen every Sunday to mean what they want it to mean.
I lost hope in this argument when you said people owned slaves because “who will do all the work?”. The 13th amendment will feel insulted by this question. Do we have slaves now, And who is doing all the work? I mean a God that is all knowing could not tell the Jews to organize their society in a way that is just?
Don’t ever say the white man did bad by enslaving blacks again. Maybe would be a slave that lives his/her chain and accepts his/her position as property if you lived in that era. The truth is modern man is more just that the biblical God based on empirical evidence. You conveniently avoided the topic of God instigating tribes to war against other tribes.
When supposedly rapture takes place God will tell you there is no heaven and he meant you are going to heaven in another CONTEXT. Just keep brainwashing yourself. Oh, excuse me. Let me answer the questions now. themonk: I am going to ask you direct questions now.
Did God enable humans to kill each other? Is this character consistent with someone who is loving?
Direct questions would be:
Did God enable humans to own each other as property? Does this exemplify someone who is just? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Okay? Hahaha 13th amendment for people living how many centuries ago! You keep trying to measure the values of a society that you couldnt possibly have any knowledge of by modern standards, which is totally illogical. As long as you keep doing that, the Bible and Gods ways will never make any sense to you. I am not jumping to conclusion. I have read the Bible severally and God directly instructed a particular tribe to go to war against another tribe repeatedly and even gave them power to kill other tribes. I am going to ask you direct questions now.
Did God enable humans to kill each other? Is this character consistent with someone who is loving?
You say slavery was different back then. I actually did a bit of research to see if maybe slavery meant a maid or something but no. Slavery is the act of acquiring your fellow human being as property, here is a Wikipedia link that talks about it.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bible_and_slavery
Direct questions would be:
Did God enable humans to own each other as property? Does this exemplify someone who is just?
God could have just told Abraham to free all his slaves and that would save people from a lot of pain and show his just behavior. The summary of this whole thing is that the God of the Bible cannot be trusted to do what is right and if there is an esoteric knowledge that explains how this things are just please let me know. You keep talking about “context” and “guidance”, various versions of Christians have interpreted these contexts differently over time.
None of Early Christian writers ever said that stars falling down from the sky into the earth as was said in revelation was figurative. But when science discovered that those stars are are so so bigger than earth they changed the narrative to these stars means the great men of earth or another version would say the fallen angels. There is no consensus among bible scholars and christian denominations about meaning of these things so I will say they are either under different holyspirits(which is supposed to interpret the Bible) or the Bible is literal in which case it is junk.
Please I need you to explain or justify a God enabling or encouraging slavery and tribal wars. Show me how these things are justified or point me to a place I can read about it. Please only point me to materials by sane authors. You dont need to respond to me Sir, you need to go back and read. Youre going outside of the point because you are basing your questions on a wrong foundation; thats what Im trying to explain to you. I dont deny that you may have read the Bible severally. I said you needed guidance. Reading the Bible from cover to cover a million times without the original context for every single book, translation guides, different perspectives, interpretations, philosophies is not going to help you. People study these things for years before they are able to understand it. They dont just read it and take all the words on face value because its not a novel; its a historical text with so many different reference points and circumstances. You sound like you have never heard a decent sermon from a trained clergyman before. Or you are not a church-goer? Have you just been reading the thing like a storybook and waiting for inspiration or what Any preacher worth his salt will explain passages that sound at odds with how we live our lives today. Using the context. You keep asking the same unintelligent questions because you dont want to acknowledge that your life bears absolutely no resemblance to that of a nomadic peasant living in the Middle East thousands of years ago. So how would the Bible make any sense to you on first principles?? What is the meaning of "slavery"? What was a slaves position in Israelite society? What rights did a slave have? Why were Jews allowed to own them? What was the purpose of the enslavement? What laws were enacted concerning owning slaves? This is what you should be asking and not futile mewling about "owning another human being". Do you know if, at some point in the future, it will be considered "wrong" for your father to say that he "owns" you? Why have the West totally abandoned the concept of paying a bride-price in marriage, while we choose to continue with it? Would it be fair for the whites to say we are "selling" women here Or "demeaning" them, or treating them as "property"? The context of an action within a particular culture is the important thing here and not arguing in absolutes because something offends your own sensibilities. That the Bible gives licence or provisions for certain practices does not mean that it necessarily approves of them. "God could have just told Abraham to free all his slaves and that would save people from a lot of pain..." This very statement shows that youre speaking out of ignorance. Abraham should free all his slaves and then what? Who will do all the work? Who will take stock of food and provisions from the harvest? Who will account for his expenditure and budget? Abraham who had no children until ...? Lol seriously what are you talking about God provided laws and regulations to improve the treatment of slaves and protect their interests instead of enacting something that wouldnt be realistic in the society He was presiding over. |

themonk: Can you exactly tell me in what context it makes sense that a book of justice would encourage humans to own their fellow humans as property? While at it tell me in which context it makes sense for a loving God to send a particular tribe to war against the other tribe even when he created both.
Like I said before if these things aren't figurative, it makes zero sense. If your argument is that God changed in the New Testament and started behaving differently, how are you sure he won't change after rapture? I mean he could wake up one morning and say, I no longer love all my children just these particular ones, others can go to hell. The idea is I cannot trust a God who did these things to love me. Slavery and Tribal wars cannot be encouraged and justified in the same breath, if you know of any esoteric knowledge that explains this you are not sharing I would be happy to help.
Sorry if I sounded condescending.
There are pastors who kill, when I mean kill I mean spiritually. Just the same way prophets in the bible could send a bear to devour kids under the "Spirit of God". There were native doctors who do good things only like heal people. The idea is that these spirits are in man irrespective of religion and instead of being deep in religion be deep in spirituality. Like I said, you have to go back and look at the context first; there is no need for me to start railing about it. What translates as "slave" now is not necessarily what it pertained to back then. You have to look at the family and social structures of ancient Israel before jumping to conclusions. The culture of a nomadic, agrarian, tribal nation in ancient times, fighting wars over water and resources, defending kingdoms and all that stuff cant be looked at with a 21st century eye. And plus, God seeks to maintain justice and order in our fallen world by taking a firm stand against evil. Sometimes wars are necessary though not ideal. Dont you think that behaviour has a context? In times of old in Igboland, neighbouring clans would pray before going to war, slaughtering and capturing each other. Does it mean that Igbo deities are automatically evil in and of themselves, looking back? Does it stop us from naming ourselves with "Chi" and "Chukwu"? God did not change in the New Testament. He simply showed us another aspect of His character. The message of love and reconciliation is just as important as that of retribution and punishment and besides Jesus still showed his righteous anger against wrongdoing. And the Jews were under Roman occupation and not even fighting anything anywhere! Its okay. I think Ive already answered the pastors/ native doctors stuff. The point is not that other religions are all evil or devoid of spirituality, the point is that our stance with can only be justified via Jesus' atoning sacrifice. Man is spirit and so always yearns to connect with God, but he cant! Unless He accepts the blood of Jesus to cover the stench of his sin. If you keep reading the Bible without any technical guidance you will keep asking the same kind of shallow and wrong-footed questions youre asking here and thinking that they invalidate the message when they dont even scratch the surface. |

I mean this is a God who encouraged slavery in this book you speak of, encourage some tribes of humans to go and kill other tribes even though he supposedly created both of them but he loved one more, this is unjust isn’t it? The Bible cannot be a moral compass, I mean Christians that have the guts to even argue irk me. I don’t like to argue with people about religion but I’m so concerned when people try to convince others it is a moral compass or a coherent, informative and infallible book of justice. Stick to your religion and just believe that things you see there you will get to understand later. Except you have any esoteric knowledge about the Bible or you read another bible different from the one I read or you just ignore the holes like most people do please just have faith that what you believe will be just and truthful and at the appointed time God will reveal everything to you.
Yes, miracles and divine manifestations work through the Bible but it also worked through ancient religions. In Igbo land they where bad and good native doctors and in Christianity there are pastors that kill their enemies and even neighbors and pastors that don’t. Some might argue that these pastors are possessed by evil spirits lol, these people haven’t read the Old Testament. The thing is if you are smart enough this should tell you that this thing is deeper than you can imagine. Go out and do research and compare what you believe with reality, theoretical and arm-chair Bible arguments don’t work. You have taken the Bible accounts out of context. Rather than using your own concept of morality to judge that of the people doing the warring and enslaving, you should take time to understand the environment, orientation and circumstances surrounding those Biblical events and what God was hoping to achieve by assisting them in their endeavours. Are you being deliberately condescending? Your second paragraph is beside the point; I have never denied that traditional religion could be effective so no need to lecture me on that. Why dont you as well "go out and do your own research" instead of twisting the Bible to suit your spurious "arm-chair argument" I dont see the point in you using the Old Testament as an argument against Christianity without considering the New Testament which forms the explanation and validation of the first part. How can a pastor who kills people be justified by the Bible? You are not making sense. Can a native doctor who poisons people be justified by any masquerade cult or Nze na Ozo society? So whats your point exactly |

themonk: Which of these two should go against your nature?
1) Forgiving and forgetting someone’s sins without repercussion.
2) Sending your son to die on the cross in a horrendous manner so you can forgive humans.
Is this even a question? midnighter: When I used the word "can" I was not referring to his ability or inability to wipe away sins. Of course He CAN wipe away sins. The question is, WOULD He wipe away sins and under what circumstance? When I say "wipe" I mean totally forget them such that there is no punishment for them in the afterlife.
As far as He is a MERCIFUL God, He is also a JUST God. Sins must be accounted for and punished; this is the law. The punishment for sinning against God is death and condemnation to Hell. Who will suffer this punishment, if not us?
They used to spill the blood of a spotless animal as a substitute for a human, to cleanse his sin. The Israelites did that as a temporary measure to cover their sin and experience forgiveness because it was better than nothing. It still doesnt solve the conundrum.
Even before Abrahamic religion reached our shores, the concept of an atoning sacrifice was a huge part of traditional religion. People and animals were regularly sacrificed to the deity of the shrine. Yet it was never enough. Every year, more dead people and animals.
How many dead rams does it take to absolve a sinful human? How many dead humans for the good of the tribe?
We all have to die, because we are all sinful. Does God want punish His beloved creation? Does it please God to send us to Hell? Or would He do absolutely anything , including coming down to Earth in the form of a poor, illegitimate carpenter's son, to stop that from happening?
These are the bases of the problem, and the solution. |

DeepSight: Is it possible that it is God who requires our forgiveness for subjecting us to a sadistic creative experiment? Is this a rhetorical question? |
