jakandeola: is it by shawarma or dose rubbish food oyibo eat DAT dey try to make us eat. d best food to eat is vegetable and most Africa eat DAT.meat nko? did white pple even have yam or food like fufu.dont think all Africans are suffering. if u notice most IBO girls got long hair too because of dey eat lot of vegetables. so u cant say our hair is bad because we cant afford diet and good food. You are still totally unserious dear. I didn't say that all Africans are suffering. Learn to call a spade a spade instead of getting emotional. Shawarma is Lebanese food and not oyibo and besides it at least contains 3 of the main food groups cooked in a healthy way; small amount of bread, grilled chicken and fresh vegetables. Yam and Fufu! Garri and semo! How many people can afford the kind of animal protein you need to accompany that starch? 3 times a day? How many people are bothered about monitoring their diet What do some children even eat at school in the name of "lunch"? How many people take regular exercise for leisure, that promotes hair growth? And I don't mean the stressed out rushing about that we do. I mean stress-busting strolling or jogging. Afro hair is the most brittle type and it needs good care at least with protective styles and correct products. I didn't even mention diet as the main thing but what you're saying here is simply not true. Pack it dear! |

Sterope: The pain is very unnecessary. Nope, it's totally necessary. Pain is as much a part of life as pleasure. If you couldn't experience sadness you wouldn't know what happiness was. If everything was easy and painless to obtain, you wouldn't value it. After seeing and sitting through the process of styling and making that hair, the child will learn to appreciate the importance of being patient for a good result as they grow older. And they will know what styles and techniques they prefer. It's part of building their self-image. The solution to a problem is not necessarily avoiding it altogether but finding a way to muddle through. |

You are not serious my friend. Cold weather makes hair dry and brittle. It's why you see so many of them in braids, knots, twists, anything to retain the moisture during the winter months. If you don't know that a vast number of our population cannot afford a decent diet, then this conversation is officially over. |

It's cold weather that damages hair the most. People here have short hair because of styles and techniques that damage their hair and bad maintenance. That's not to talk of nutrition. How will the hair grow on insufficient nutrients or bad diet? |

Ladycewhy: Its that bad,lol ,me and my tender scalp.
The bottom line is mothers should know the temperament level of their kids. I have seen mothers say "that is how she always cries when making her hair" well may that child is probably like me with tender scalp. Cut it off simple. Yes o, if it would give them relief and not affect their self-esteem. |

Ladycewhy: for me its every body o,no matter how gentle. This year i only did my hair twice and it was out of necessity. So i can understand some children are like that too. My only anger is when parents refuse to realize their child is very sensitive to making hair and still let it continue. Lol your own must be bad at least you can empathise with all the little princesses out there. Yes, I think that's more of a wider cultural point about the way we see things. Parents are sometimes unable to engage with a child's individual quirks because they think it means they must be "spoiling" them. Its the same reason parents indiscriminately beat their children when some kids respond better to a stern warning or explanation than flogging. |

Ladycewhy: Exactly. Briads is more durable . plus lets not forget the discomfort the child has to go through every morning. For some children sitting still alone is enough punishment imagine they have to sit still every morning to get their hair done.
Personally i dont like someone making my hair,if i make my hair as old as i am i must take drugs. So i stopped ,i weave my hair myself and put on my wig. People are sensitive to making hair differently. So for children who are very sensitive when making their hair, its better to cut it and let then be. Yes, I think the child's individual temperament is important too. Some children are more sensitive than others and some children would rather bear the pain and hours of sitting still rather than shave their heads My pain tolerance has always been okay but if I find somebody with a soft hand I will stick to them like glue some of them will be acting like its your scalps fault that nepa has gone on strike smh you will just be shouting at them like a madwoman |

I’ve been natural all my life lol
You state it’s takes you 5 min to get your hair together etc and I basically told you I know a lot of 4s around me that struggle to get their hair out together daily This is a big problem in our community. Since the natural hair movement started there has been backlash because people can be very inconsiderate. Nothing wrong with it as long as the pain is not excessive. Pain is a simple reality of life and it's how we deal and respond to it that matters the most. |

Ladycewhy: Thats the point ,how durable and sustainable are buns? Just give the child 30 mins to play and all the hair will be over the place plus not everyone has the time to style hair every morning before school imagine if you have two daughters or more. Totally. Who has time in the morning to be manipulating all the curls and sprigs Just for it to get messed up after a couple of minutes or, even worse, the girl doesn't feel comfortable playing and goofing around with her friends because "I don't want to scatter this hair". Very impractical. This is why braids were developed in the first place! |

Ladycewhy: again ,not all hair texture will cooperate, before they return from school the hair will look like the child went to a war zone. The hair stretching every morning is not worth it. Exactly. Those lovely pictures are of when the child is sitting still and behaving. What about after 5 hours of play and yab At least braids are robust enough to let the child be free with herself |
Family › Re: Moms! Quit Putting Little Girls Through Torture In The Name Of Braiding Hair. by midnighter(f): 6:55pm On Dec 23, 2019 |
There's nothing wrong with braiding a child's hair, as long as care is taken not to make it too tight.
It can be uncomfortable but not necessarily painful. Or it may be mildly painful for a couple of days. Experiencing pain is not going to kill the child.
Everybody experiences pain, especially en route to achieving something meaningful. You can't shield children from pain forever just to prove a point. This is unrealistic. Children should be taught resilience and not shielded and coddled all the time. The end result is comfort enough for the pain endured.
Putting somebody's hair in a bun every day for school is not feasible; little children mess their hair up a lot and natural hair can get tangled if a comb is not run through it often enough. Then when you want to comb it it will still be war.
I think a reasonable cornrow style with or without attachments is okay for a schoolgirl.
And it will also teach them from an early age about neatness.
The bun is okay as well once in a while but people who braid their kids hair shouldn't be condemned. |

Gerrard59: Yes, I supported him by stating biological facts but you attacked me even when I stated it correctly. I hold total responsibility for what I typed because it is factually correct. You stated the biological fact in support of the idea that because she is an older mother, the child must be abnormal. I pointed out to you that you used your "fact" wrongly because it only increases the likelihood and does not obtain for all babies born under such circumstances. If you were not biased, you wouldnt have written Gerrard59: What other exposure does he need than basic biology So you supported his erroneous assumption, which is why you should also take responsibility for it. |

GeniusWannabe: I think you missed the point. Not caring about people's opinions doesn't necessarily depict absolute negligence. Before you decide not to care, you must have observed their behaviours (which in most cases reflect their thoughts). How you respond depends on you. It is at this point you either decide to pay attention and let their behaviours/thoughts define you, or you just simply ignore. I didn't miss the point, rather you failed to clarify it. Using the words "not care" totally denotes an attitude of negligence. You didn't mention weighing the persons behaviour and deciding not to care. You literally wrote that "it all boils down to not caring what people think" which is a foolish way to go about things when in a sensitive environment like the village. |

GeniusWannabe: Yeah, there's no place where envy doesn't exist. Some don't hide it, others do. The latter is worse, as you can even have them as friends. I guess it all boils down to not caring about what people think! I disagree, I think you should actually pay attention to people's opinions and behaviours towards you so that you will be able to judge for yourself whether they have evil intentions or not instead of relying on hearsay and rumour. People do get poisoned in the village because they were trying to be "nice" or egalitarian with people who clearly don't wish them well. At the same time people miss out on things because they think everybody wants to do them something when in reality nobody cares about them. |

GeniusWannabe: You don't have to be the richest or best in a field to be a victim of envy. Some people are naturally envious to people who are seemingly better than them, and are quick to show it. It's best to stay away from them 'cause they can be dangerous. That's a general notion though, I'm not saying that's enough reason to stay away from his village. But of course, if you go to a place where people have very little and its perceived that youre wealthy, it will evoke jealousy This is the same principle that gets you robbed when you pass through a deprived area of town looking obviously wealthy Its equally unhelpful to dismiss it completely as nonsense and to read deep meanings into it. Its better to keep a balanced view and constantly observe your surroundings |
