1Sharon:Did every single person you saw during your visit have a flat nose and thick lips? |
1Sharon:The silly girl doesnt even understand irony. I ask again, if youve already explained it then why are you repeating it? Im not claiming anybody. Have you noticed that I havent mentioned any group? Yet you quickly jumped to Somalis and Fulanis when you know that there are other people from all tribes who fit that description. I told you that you are crafty. I asked you if every single person you saw when you visited Nigeria fit your description of round noses and thick lips. I know your kind . An insensitive and inconsiderate "natural hair warrior". I even mentioned your "kind" right at the beginning of the thread because you people are not new. |
CeterisXVII:I was talking about Nigerians who have English names. Youd have to ask her about all that. My point was just that being influenced by colonialism doesnt necessarily make somebody ignorant because its already part of our culture. So its silly to call people names on that basis. According to her those people are discounted already because they are "mixed". Im not even talking about them because you can find people all over Nigeria who fit that description |
1Sharon:So answer the question seriously, if youre not even sillier than you think I am. |
1Sharon:See? You are totally nonsensical. Apparently having a flat nose with straight hair makes you ugly yet you want the world to accept the beauty of everybody with kinky hair and big lips. Does it make sense? Can you please explain why we should take you seriously after you wrote something as stupid as this ![]() |
1Sharon:The funniest thing is that Im sitting here with my afro blown out just looking at you in amazement. If youve already confirmed it then why are you repeating it? Exactly. So why is it so difficult for you to admit that people can look good with weave, if you can acknowledge that natural girls can look bad without it? Why are all natural girls automatically better looking than all weave-wearing girls irrespective of how much the style actually suits them? Do you realise how stupid that sounds? Ive already explained the "English name" example. If youve travelled to Nigeria before then why do you maintain the argument that a black person cant have narrow features? Is that how everybody you saw in the places you went to looked? You sound like one of those crazy 3rd generation immigrant Femteps that has never actually set foot in an African country but has somehow imbibed every single thing there is to know about black people smh There are over 200 ethnic groups here yet they all must fit your warped view so that your misguided crusade will be justified. |
1Sharon:Ive already explained what I meant by "crafty". Ive already explained why what you said is racist. Ive already stated that I dont need you to confirm whether we look better with weaves or not. We have all noticed people with natural hair who dont look good, but we wouldnt use them to suggest that nobody with natural hair looks good. Bleaching knots, gluing lace are not what we're talking about here. We're talking about you and your *inverse featurism* which is actually a tool of oppression in itself. You are oppressing yourself in oppressing others. You were talking about "rounder flatter nose" and Im telling you that Chinese people have that too, with straight hair. You now want to deflect towards "full-featured" which is not going to work. Answer the question: Do all Chinese people look ugly? Dont worry; please go ahead and try telling somebody in the UK that their big black lips dont suit their English name. I for one will be looking forward to reading your story on front page. 1Sharon:I just typed 3 lines of insults to you before realising that I am lacking an important piece of information that will clear everything. Here is my question: Have you ever travelled to Nigeria before? |
Isoduwa: ![]() |
Charmingpet:Lol underrated hahaha dem dey carry in-law like spare change smh |
Khalidase83:Excuse me, i noticed "Khalid" in your monicker and I thought you were a Muslim or at least had some understanding of Arabic language. It means "God bless you" |
Pacesetter123:Hmm! Its good to clarify something. Carry go Sir ![]() |
CeterisXVII:Thanks, the fact that every child is different is what a lot of people here are failing to grasp. If it's so extremely painful for your child and they don't mind low cut then why not? But you dont have the right to castigate somebody with a different life and a different child! I don't see where all the fake wokeness is coming from when most children would be okay as long as the stylist was reasonable. You don't want your child to ever feel one ounce of pain in her entire life or what ![]() Will you say you will rush home just to feed the child no matter what or will you let them be hungry for an hour or so so that you will finish what you're doing? Will being hungry finish your child? So you'll keep combing and pulling at her head every day and stress 2 of you just so that she won't endure a sore scalp for a couple of days? Come on! |
1Sharon:Yes, it's your opinion that none of us look good with weaves and you're free to express it but you shouldn't be crafty or extreme in order to prove a point because it actually makes your argument weaker. If I had said "what of those "natural beauties" with patch patchy wisps of hair over their bald heads" wouldn't it sound awful even though we know that that's how some of them look? You are being very unreasonable joor It's not racist to state that some of us have particular features. It's racist to use that fact to argue that we look grotesque in weaves and wigs, when having a flat nose doesn't necessarily mean that straight hair looks bad on you. Chinese people nko? The fact is that having large lips doesn't automatically disqualify you from looking decent with straight hair, just like having kinky hair doesn't automatically disqualify you from from looking decent with thin lips! You're so eager to squash everybody into your own tiny box for some reason when there are so many different looks that work well. Being from Nigeria doesn't automatically mean that using a foreign first name is beyond you. You may disagree with it for your own reasons but it doesn't necessarily make the other person ignorant or stupid. Will you say "big black face with big lips doesn't suit English name" Because that's racist! I'm sure in the UK you're talking from you can be arrested for saying that.but our noses are rounder and flatter and our lips are fuller. Does that sound better to you?It depends. Are you going to say that " rounder nose and full lips don't look good with long, straight hair"? Because that's racist too. It has nothing to do with being mixed or not. I asked you a question- do black people with straight noses and thin lips always automatically look good in any wig they wear? I'm quoting you because you're saying the wrong thing thinking that you're sounding more enlightened when actually your argument lacks intelligence and nuance. There are full black people all over Nigeria with thin noses and lips and you're here talking about "mixed" like one bush woman! I just can't understand it. How can you claim to have left your "oppression" but still be so narrow-minded? You're the most oppressed person here, if you don't know. |
sassysure:Oya "As long as everybody understands you, it doesn't matter" brigade where are you? I have ceded one to you people oo ![]() |
Pacesetter123:Okay I understand you now. The difference is using the word "unnecessary". But even flogging can be unnecessary, I hope you know that? |
AkhereOkaka:But in this case I excuse her because the way she used "vividly" perfectly captured the ridiculousness of this particular scenario. Let nobody vividly come anywhere near my place for more than 2 weeks ooo |
Isoduwa:Yes! |
Khalidase83:Masha Allah aleek |
babythug:I have an aunt who used to come over on ordinary holidays o, and do that to me. As in literally rummage through my stuff and take what she wanted. From a 13 year old. Why are people like this? |
Pacesetter123:I really hope that after you made this statement, you won't tell us that you flog your kids. I really hope not. |
1Sharon:It's not about arguing that we look better in our natural hair. You are free to think that. And it's true to an extent. It's about you implying that we don't look good at all in weaves or other styles, when that's simply not true. And you're being deliberately insincere by using extreme language to prove your point. You keep using words like big lips and big noses which is racist. Not all of us have big noses and lips. You're just trying to be controversial in an effort to sound enlightened. What about people with narrow noses and thin lips, do they have your permission to wear their weaves now? If you had said that people should try to be realistic about their facial and bone structure when choosing styles, I would have understood but you're just being vulgar and offensive to prove a point. I don't need to you to confirm for me whether black women look better in weaves or not. What I'm saying is that you shouldn't be so quick to judge people just because they don't conform to your view. The systems of oppression that led to this discussion in the first place are well-established and complex. You are wrong to lord it over people just because you have had a different experience. If you want to put your point across then do it without being arrogant. You are actually scaring people away from the natural hair movement with your attitude. |
1Sharon:I have talked about that already. I understand that we have a problem with inferiority complex and making our hair look more "white" but that doesn't mean that everybody who does that is totally ignorant about what makes them look good or that people who don't automatically conform to your view of what looks "good" must be stupid. |
1Sharon:I mentioned "blond" and you said white people use their same colour of hair. That is why I asked you that question. I have talked about texture already. You make it sound like we are all out there wearing 40-inch pink wigs and looking ridiculous. |
1Sharon:I asked, what about black people who wear their same colour of hair? |
1Sharon:So you should say it like that instead of implying that all people who use extensions must hate themselves. You're just being facetious, so what of black people who wear black or brown hair? If you want to make a point you should be reasonable. Don't use extreme examples to paint all black women bad. |
1Sharon:You're actually the one ridiculing African women, who told you our lips don't match our hair ![]() So does Angelina Jolie need to force her hair into an Afro? If you think we still look good natural it's fair enough but that doesn't mean we don't look good in other styles. You're going so far in one direction that you're beginning to sound like the racists you hate so much. |
1Sharon:It's not self-hate at all. What about white women who go and get blond extensions sewn into their scalp to make it appear thicker ![]() What about those who use kinky or yakki extensions that mimic their natural hair texture? If you keep arguing like that you will eventually reach the conclusion that basically all body modifications mean that you "hate yourself". Adding attachments helps to keep the hair neat for longer which is less stress on the child since they won't need to keep making it every week. |
DMerciful: that's colonisation for you. There's also a "Lagos" in Portugal! |
sassysure:You advocated for just shaving somebody's head regardless of the situation. If she likes herself with hair, it will affect her self-esteem. If she's the only person with a shaven head in a school full of girls , it will affect her self-esteem if she's the self-conscious type. If you're shaving it you shave with the right intentions. If you're braiding a style you braid with the right intentions. You don't just apply your principles on somebody willy-nilly and then rubbish it when somebody brings up a point. What you did when you were a child may not be applicable now. You forget that the reason some women go totally overboard with Indian hair and Brazilian wig blah blah is because they hated having to shave their heads when they were small. All the fake hair now makes them feel like a "big girl". So shaving isn't a universal solution for everybody. It's not "allow a child to be a child" but "allow your child to be herself". |
sassysure:If it won't affect her self-esteem. If that's what she would like you to do. After all, the hair will still grow again in a few weeks and she might have changed her mind by then. But telling everybody to do that just because you think everybody must be like your child is nonsensical. |
Bahddo:It has nothing to do with Nigerians, even "oyibo" cultures where kids are supposedly spoiled all the time believe in teaching kids resilience. I didn't say you have to pass through avoidable pain to enjoy life. I simply stated that some pains are unavoidable, so its better to learn how to deal with them and enjoy the pleasures that result. Have you always enjoyed a perfect life without pain? Aren't you still enjoying your life? And going back to the topic, you can't shield children from pain that's even temporary, all the time. It doesn't make sense |
Sterope:That's a reductive argument. Some parents don't see school as necessary, some people don't even see work as necessary so where does it end? If you don't see it as necessary then others do. |

their hair is still tender and growing, they don't need extensions to pull out the little bit of hair they have.
