God bless Tinubu for conceptualising, originating, initiating and doing all the foundation work for this project.
This is not Fashola's work.Any ACN Governor installed by Tinubu would have done the same to continue what his godfather initiated.

I would rate a governor from how his policies affect Education and Health. Awolowo is remembered today because of Free Education and Health Services, not necessarily because he built some roads and planted flowers everywhere.
Politics › Re: Arunma Oteh Addressing Panel At Capital Market Probe - Live by mikeapollo: 6:14pm On May 09, 2012
The stock market crashed between 2008-2009.
We are all witnesses to the NSE management crisis and corruption allegations between Dangote, Ndi-Onyuike Okereke and Otedola. We are also aware of the revelations by the CBN that the banks used depositors funds to manipulate share prices. These actions led to the crash in the capital markets.

Yet the thieving rogues in the NASS closed their eyes and senses to all these people and decided to single out Aruma Otteh who was actually appointed in 2010 AFTER THE MARKET HAD CRASHED!

Cant people see that these House members are only trying have their pound of flesh against Otteh just because she denied them bribes and exposed them? Otteh is angry and pissed off, and sometimes anger may look like arrogance.
Rushing to call for the head of a woman (who had attended previous hearings) just because she missed one sitting is just a way to blackmail the woman in the eyes of the public.

I listened to Okereke and I wonder the kind of professor she calls herself.
The real fraud was perpetuated under Okereke.....buying rolex watches for N156m with over half not accpounted for, and buying a yatch for N37m, and all she can say is that it was a private company funds that was spent. I remember how she wanted to use Obama's election campaigns to defraud!

Health › Re: Lagos Government Willing To Negotiate With Sacked Doctors by mikeapollo:
People should think in this country!

Fashola and his govt must be held responsible for the current strike.

The doctors embarked on a 3-day warning strike and RESUMED WORK! What is the most sensible thing for a reasonable govt to do? To issue query letters or allow the tension/confusion to cool down while looking for avenues to address the issues? The issuance of query letters to individuals for an action taken by a union is just stupid.
How would you feel if the FG should issue query letters to all federal university lecturers because ASUU went on strike? Damn stupid!

They destroyed our schools because their children never attended our schools. Now Fashola is championing the crusade to finally destroy our health system because his family does not use our hospitals! This is a governor that was educated for free in Nigeria now behaving like a demi god!

Is Fashola's salary less than other governors' salary? Was the governors salaries not fixed for all the 36 states? What about the commissioners and the state houses of assembly/ They all receive the same salary as recommended for 36 states. Is Lagos State not paying judges more than what the FG recommended / pays to judges? They must be paying the judges more to compromise them for political gains, or what?
So why must doctors in Lagos received less than other states when they do more work?

Fashola must be power drunk, and he is a huge disapppointment. I voted for ACN but I doubt if people would vote for them of this Fashola's attitude is not checked!

The Nigeria Medical Association and Medicial Guild should rise up against this dictatorial tendency and not buckle. Fashola should not make these people declare a total state-wide strike in the health sector(in both Federal and State Hospitals)

Only an insensitive govt in a useless country like Nigeria would sack experienced doctors for inexperienced youth corper doctors. That is how human life is valued in this society.

Fortunately enough for Fashola, he seems to have a few daft morons who are still praise-worshipping him and supporting his barbaric actions! That is Nigeria for you.....there are many enough fools to hail our useless leaders!
Health › Re: Lagos Government Willing To Negotiate With Sacked Doctors by mikeapollo:
4bobo: and so they should allow people to die any how cos of stubborn doctors holding health care into ransom? If they want govt to consider them back, good. Govt can do negotiate and reach agrement with lenency. Can you do that in a private firm and be fired and expect room for negotiation? Never! Once you are sack, you are sack.that is why it is govt.
We appreciate their efforts and work but it must not entered their brains too much. Someone employed them. They should remember.
Ibet it with u.many will be back as doctors and some will be suspended. Many big politicans have their relatives as doctors. So it will be hard to sack all. But i know govt will over power their union wch will be very bad for health care.
We Nigerians encourage bad governance with this kind of ignorant/stupid talk.

Nobody wants people to die in the hospital because of strike. We know life is very precious and with no duplicate. But I blame the Fashola Lagos State Govt for their arrogant and dictatorial approach to this issue.

These doctors had an agreement with Lagos State for over a year now and the govt refused/failed to honour this agreement. The doctors made several efforts to make the gpvt address those issues without succes. They embarked on a 3-day warning strike, and THEY RESUMED WORK after the 3-day warning strike.
Rather than allow the tension to cool down and seek ways to resolve the matter, the arrogant and dictatorial Fashola and his govt issued query letters to almost 1000 doctors at a go! What is the meaning of that? The govt by that act alone has shown that they are not interested in solving the matter, but would rather engage and confront the striking doctors to prolong the matter.

We should put ourselves in the doctors shoes.....would you go to work if your employer gives 1000 of you query letters after embarking on a Trade Union strike? Is that the attitude of a govt that is genuinely and sincerely interested in finding solutions to the problems of the doctors?

There is national harmonised wage structure for medical doctors that cover all the 36 states and Abuja. The poorest states in Nigeria pay their doctors this agreed remunerations without execption. Why must Lagos State pay below what is the national minimum to his doctors who work under very heavy pressure due to the large population in Lagos State and the pressure on the hospitals. These doctors generate revenue to the state govt because the patients pay for treatment in these hospitals.

All the governors, commissioners, State Houses of Assembly etc have a uniform salary structure across the 36 states of Nigeria. Is Fashola collecting less salary than other governors? Are Lagos State Commisioners/House of Assembly collecting less salaries/allowances than other states? Why must Lagos doctors be paid less than other doctors in the country who may not be doing half of what Lagos doctors do?

To sack about 1000 doctors overnight is a clear indication that Fashola is a misfit for the post he is occupying. He should stop mentioning Awolowo and his legacies. Fashola is a an arrogant amd dictatorial capitalist to the core with no compassion for the poor masses. His policies have showed that he is an extortionist...Lekki Tollgates, LASU school Fees, Yaba Market Mall scam, Land Use charge increment, harrasment of peasant market-women/pure-water sellers for taxes/levies etc!

Fashola has developed an annoying penchant for deploying mobile police men to harrass and intimidate people whenever people want to protest against his policies. He did it at Lekki and LASU

I have never heard of a govt deploying policemen to hospitals....who does Fashola want to teargas.....the patients or the doctors? Have the doctors embarked on any street protests or destroyed any equipment in the hospitals?
This attidture is as bad, if not worse than, GEJ deploying soldiers at Ojota during the subsidy protests. Can you imagine what this Fashola would do to people if there were State Police in Nigeria?

I pity the loss of deaths, but the doctors must be encouraged to challenge the dictatorial non-sense of this Fashola govt. He must he held responsible for the deaths in the hospitals. He can afford to say he has sacked the doctors because he does not care for the common masses in the state. His antecedents show it. People now regret voting for him!

Lagosians must hold him responsible for the loss of lives from this current strike(after the doctors had resumed from their 3-day warning strike).

Lagos State allocations were with-held for almost 3 years by OBJ, but Tinubu was able to manage the funds of the govt successfully without sacking a single worker. And he did not surchange any professional body/workers.
It was the accumulatede with-held allocations that was later released by Yar'Dua to Fashola which he(Fashola) used to do a few roads (in his first two years) that made some myopic people to start hailing him blindly. Now we know the true character of the person we have as governor.

I am not a doctor, but common-sense and sense of maturity should prevail in any reasonable govt. In my days at Ife(OAU), you would have to virtually 'die' to be a medical doctor.....right from level 2/3, you would have to sacrifice your social, family and other aspects of your life in-order to be able to read and pass your medical/clinical exams. And you would do it for almost 7-8years! And you cannot pass by scoring grade C or D, neither can you graduate if you are a Third-Class or ordinary Pass material. You must be at First Class level, or close. And they hardly went on breaks / holidays.....always staying behind in school for practicals/clinicals while some of us from other courses e.g Accounting, Engineering,Law(Fashola's colleagues) were busy holidaying at home or traveling, playing football, or chasing girl/boyfriends etc! Add to that the cost of very expensive medical textbooks.
How would you now feel if a clueless governor starts comparing you with some civil servants who never went to university or barely spent 4 years in the University and managed to pass with loads of grades C and D?

I am not saying medical doctors are more intelligent or more brilliant than other professionals.No. But they put in more sacrifice during their studies in the university(I saw that when I was at Ife)so they deserve some respect, especially when their jobs have to do with saving human lives and the risks associated with the job(e.g contracting dangerous diseases from patients in the course of their work)

Chic2pimp,

You seem not to know that on-the-field and off-the-field activities/conducts count in determining who wins or losses an award!
Do you think FIFA would give world footballer to a player that plays well on the field but is always involved in terrible conducts off the field in public e.g violent conducts, battery, figthing, drug addiction etc? Never. So it also works in the positive when a player dispalys exemplary conduct outside the field.
Weah was very good, but what helped me more was those heart-winning exemplary conducts which made him a role-model all over the world. It is like a Nobel Award Winner in the football(FIFA) world.

George Weah performed an unprecedented feat in using football to preach/promote peace in Liberia at a time when virtually all political efforts have failed. He also personally sponsored the team from his pockets. That was exemplary conducts of the field, which also catapulted him above other contenders.

Even Weah won the award based only on his performance on the picth, I still insist that the best of Abedi was better than the best of Weah! They peaked at different times in their career, when the rules were different, and contenders were also different!

The Bible said we are not fighting flesh and blood, but against spirit-beings.
Hundreds of self confessed demon-possessed people troop to The Synagogue on daily/weekly basis seeking for deliverance.I wonder how many people Prophet TB Joshua would have slapped if it is proper or justified to assault people in the name of deliverance. Many even attack him physically in the presence of the congregation during deliverance, yet he has demonstrated the true virtues of the Holy Spirit to be calm, despite all provocations.

The power to deliver comes from heavenly anointing, not from theology school or seminary or physical assault. The Bible says by their fruits, you shall know them. Physical assault is not a fruit of the spirit! Is he fighting for Jesus or what?

Lesson: If you are not anointed by God for a mission (e.g Deliverance), do not bother to dabble into it just because you want to impress your congregation/followers!

Can you imagine that these PFN pastors are the ones that ganged up to persecute and spread false news/stories against Prophet TB Joshua! Truly, time reveals everything!

Ayusco,
Why are you avoiding issues originally raised by yourself? You said in your earlier post that you watched the 1993 Champions League final and that Abedi did not play shaat(your own words)! And I ask you who won the man of the match in that match? Cant you answer the question? Does UEFA give man of the match award to just any player who did not do shaaat?(accoring to your words)? Do you know the calibre of players in both AC Milan and Marseilles that played that match?
Abedi blossomed at a time when Ghana was having problems in their football. Ghana withdrew from internation football from 1984 untill 1990 when they came back to contest for the Senegal 1992 Nations Cup. Abedi almost single-handedly lifted the Ghana team to the final. Go watch his goal against Egypt, Zambia(both won by 1-0 margin) and against Congo in the Q-Final! FIFA compares the goal against Congo to the goal scored by Maradona against England at Mexico 1986 W/Cup as one of the best ever. (http://www.fifa.com/classicfootball/players/player=161081/index.html)

And do you remember his glancing header goal against the Super Eagles in the Semi-Final match?
Ghana with Abedi on the pitch would have won the cup in the final if he had not been suspended. Everybody acknowledges that.

No Nigerian player comes close to Abedi.....so let's stop deceiving ourselves

Abedi gave all his match allowances at Senegal 92 to the home-based/local players in the BlackStars and also sponsored part of the teams expenses on training tours.
It was the beef between him and a disgruntled Tony Yeboah that caused more problems for the team which affected Ghana's performanc. It is mischebious and shallow minded to use that to speak against Abedi's undeniable vast talent.

Weah won his awards on the strength of his performances for his club and also because of the great humanitarian efforts in using football to preach/promote peace in his war-torn country and also sponsoring his national team (he learnt from Abedi's gesture, but he also went further to shoulder virtually all the expenses of the team(of course, he also got into some beef with some other players in the team which also affected the ascendancy of the Liberian team)

Dont even bring the issue of Nigeria being absent at the time! Nigeria was ALWAYS playing in Nations Cup and W/Cup qualifiers. Who told you that Nigeria was the best/strongest team at that time?It was either Cameroun, Ghana or the North Africans that eliminated us.
Nigeria was at the 1986/88/90 Nations cups which Ghana did not participate in, untill 1992 when THEY BEAT US in the Semi-Final. At the 1994 Nations cup in Tunisia, we were so scared of Ghana that the whole nation/NFA was praying for Cote de Voire to beat Ghana in the Q-Final so that we can handle a less difficult CIV in the S-Final.
Ghana with Abedi, Yeboah, Baffoe, Opokun Polley, Nii Odartey Lamptey and Edward Ansah was a terror team to the Super Eagles and we were dead-scared to play them.A full Super Eagles squad with all our foreign based professionals could not even beat their home-based players in Lagos! It happened in the 1992 qualifier and on some other occassions.

Nigeria had her pound of flesh in later years, but that was when Ghana had serious problems, e.g when they suspended all their foreign based players and we played them 0-0 in Accra, beat them 3-0 at PH for the 2002 W/Cup Qualifier and we gave them $25,000 after the match(some people said it was a bribe), beat them 1-0 at both the 2002 and 2006 Nations Cup(They did not qualify for the 2004 Nations Cup because of their crisis)

Please do your research well and stop deceiving yourself when it comes to football between Ghana and Nigeria. Nigeria was scared of Ghana even when we had our best teams in 1992-1994!

Ayusco,
Did you really watch the 1993 European Champions League final? Who won the Man-Of-The-Match award? Go online and find out. Before and apart from the final match, how many other matches of Olympic Marseilles did you watch?

Did you watch the 1991 Champions League Q-Final when Marseilles defeated AC Milan? Did you watch the semi-final where Abedi scored 2 goals against Spartak Moscow? Did you watch the Final against Red Star Belgrade which Marseilles lost by penalties and Abedi won Man of the match? Please go watch these matches first before you make comments.

Those were years when it was much more difficult for an African player to succeed or be given the opportunity to play in Europe, except you are obviously better. Again, that was a period when there was a quota on the number of foreigners that can play in a team(about 3), unlike now when things are more relaxed now

This is what FIFA says about Abedi on their website....read it

Meforkene,
Inasmuch as I doubt if TB Joshua made any prediction concerning the match, there is nothing shameless in it. He has prophecied about many matches in the past, mostly involving Nigeria and other African countries, and he has been 100% accurate!

And what do you mean by 'who annointed him'?

Read your Bible very well and tell me who annointed the following prophets/servants of God:

1.Moses
2.Elija
3.Jeremiah
4.John The Baptist
5.Paul(formerly Saul)

God Almighty can directly annoint whoever He wants to use by Himself.....you cannot order God to operate in a particular way. He does as He wills!

Chic2pimp/Ayusco,

You people know little about Abedi, so dont say much. Okocha is a baby to Abedi. Even Weah cannot say he was better than Abedi. Did you watch the 1991/92/93 European Champions League? I doubt it. DStv was not widely available in Nigeria (and most African countries)at that time. Please, also go watch the French League of the same period before you come talk anything.

You want to compare Okocha with senseless, unproductive dribbles with Abedi? Okocha was even always a substitute under Westerhof when Eagles were at their best.It was one of his stupid, selfish plays that made him lose the ball to the Italians who counter-attacked and scored the equaliser against us at USA 94.
All the did at France 98 was to do glory-seeking leg overs that yielded nothing to the team. You may say he was the best Nigerian player at France 98, but he cannot come near Abedi.
Great world players like Pele, Frank Beckenbeur, Platini,Tigana have all acknowledged Abedi as the most gifted all-round player in Africa. Weah won FIFA award in 1995 at a time when Abedi had lost form, but when you compare the two of them, the best of Abedi in his hey deys were better than George Weah in 1995/96. Okocha does not come near them.....remember Okocha was even below Yeboah when they were at Frankfurt, yet Abedi was better than Yeboah!

It is an insult to football to even say Okocha was equal to or better than Abedi!

Can't we pause for a minute to ask for a proof/source of this story? Did TB Joshua actually make this prediction or somebody somewhere is playing a fool on people and people are already misled to make hasty comments? Are we this shallow in this country or is it just the bias some people have against TB Joshua?

TB Joshua's prophecies are always on the web, so where did this poster get his news from? And people are already making reference to TB Joshua as if they actually heard him say anything!
Is this a 150million people with no analytical brains to ask questions? Is this why our politicians just wake up and tell us lies and we always believe and follow them blindly?

Before we rush to make comments, why not ask to see the video of the purported prediction by TB Joshua?
We all know that TB Joshua's messages/preachings/prophesies are ALWAYS DOCUMENTED on video, why has the poster not uploaded the video.

I hope the poster is not only being mischievous, and playing upon the bias/weakeness of the members of this forum and on FB.

If Bayern wins, a lot of people will have a wrong conclusion based on this rumour, eventhough there is no video to prove TB Joshua said anything

If I see the video, I will believe his story, otherwise it is not right to make comments for now.

Jarus,
God bless you my brother! Exactly the same analogy I was trying to explain as regards Abedi and Weah.

On paper, Yaya Toure has won more laurels and even won CAF's African Player of the Year, which Essien has not won, but only someone ignorant about football that would say Yaya was/is better than Essien.

In future, those who did not see/watch the real performance/abilities of the players ON THE FIELD would only refer to the awards won and say that Yaya was/is better than Essien. They would just be using the awards won by Yaya to judge that he was better.
Those who really watched/saw Abedi in his best days would agree that he was better than the best of Weah
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo: 1:17pm On Apr 27, 2012
Let me use this question to test/confirm my analogy!

Yaya Toure and Essien!
Yaya has probably won more titles/laurels(at Barcelona) and has just won CAF's Player of the Year!

But let me ask you.....who is a better ALL-ROUND PLAYER, between Essien and Yaya Toure?!
Compare the best of Essien's performances against the best performances of Yaya Toure, and give me the answer!

The whole wide world knows that ON THE FIELD of PLAY......over the span of their respective careers, the best football perfomances of Abedi was better than the best football performances of Weah.
But the best of Abedi between 1990-93 did not win the WFPOY (because of more quality contestants), while the best of Weah in 1995 won the WFPOY.

It is like a student that scored 80% and came fifth in a class(because of very high competition/performers), and another student that scored 70% and came first in another class(because of less competitive contestants).

Go and assemble a collection of what they both played ON THE FIELD, and see what I am talking about. It is a well known fact in France and even FIFA
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo: 5:47pm On Apr 25, 2012
@Jarus,

You seem to follow the idea that any player(striker) that scores more goals(and almost certainly wins more awards) is better than a midfielder that scores less goals! That cannot always be true. One way to prove this is to compare which player that had the highest number of 'Most-Valuable Player of the Match' in all the matches in a season, and then compare to which player gets selected or wins the 'Best Player of The Season'. In most cases, the Best Player Award of the season(UEFA/FIFA/CAF etc) goes to the highest goal scorer, not necessarilty to the player that had the highest number of MVP in all the matches of the season. The reason is the goal scorers naturally grab the awards/attention/headlines.
Papin was the top scorer for Marseilles, but Abedi was the top play-maker for the team. His performance on the field determined what happens to the team on most occassions.Abedi won the highest number 'Man of the Match ' but Papin scored more goals for Marseilles. To me, I would rate a player(midfielder) that won the highest number of 'Man of the Match' higher than a player(striker) that just scored more goals

I know for sure that the quality/performance of Abedi of 1991/92 was better than that of Stoichkov or Alan Shearer or even the quality/performance that won the WFPOY for Weah in 1995. There was relatively less competition (performance-wise) among the top players in the world, and Weah's humanitarian activities of sponsoring the Liberian national team and using football to make peace during the war played more role(than his on-the-field performance) in his emergence as WFPOY. That is the real truth, although we are all happy that an African won it!

Even in France, where both Abedi and Weah played in their prime, it is well known fact by all that Abedi was a better player than Weah, even though they were both at the top. Weah was at PSG/AC Milan, two teams that were active in the Champions League in 1995(plus his peace-making/humanitarian activities in Liberia), while Abedi was at Torino that was in the top 5-7 position in Italy, so the odds favoured Weah that years, especially when Abedi was going down in form!
I can accept that Weah/Eto are two players that probably won more awards than Abedi, and MAY be rated above him in terms of NUMBER OF AWARDS won, but NOT in terms of OVERALL FOOTBALL PLAYING ABILITIES......goalscoring, defending, play-making, skills, scoring individual brilliant goals out of nothing etc, all combined!
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo:
Folks, try and get what I am saying: in terms of awards/laurels won, Weah and Eto Fils can be said to have achieved more than Abedi. Weah and Eto benefited from the change in European football rules in 1995. Africans,South Americans and other non-European citizens became eligible for nomination/selection for the European footballer of the year award in 1995, which was a critical factor when players are to be nominated or voted for FIFA WFPOY award.
Without that change of rule in 1995, Weah would not have been considered for European footballer of the year in 1995(and that could probably have robbed him the FIFA WFPOY award). Eto was also voted in the top 3-5 players in Europe at some periods in his career which enhanced his world ratings.
If you consider the fact that Abedi was better than some of the players that won European footballer of the year between 1991-1994, then you would realise what I am saying. The rules at that time worked against him.

The question you need to ask is:how difficult was it for an African player to make it in Europe at time Weah/Abedi etc started playin, compared to later years of Eto/Kanu?. How many African players were shortlisted in the world top 10 players by FIFA between 1990-1992? How many players would be shortlistelisted at that time, even when such a player had not played at the world cup and his team(OM) did not win the European Champions League? How many? It must take an extra-ordinary and consistent performance on the field before you can be listed. George Weah was also doing great but Abedi was ahead of him.

Things were much easier for African players during the era of Eto/Kanu. A lot of youth under-age tournaments had been introduced by FIFA to discover talents early, and we all know that Eto and Kanu etc benefitted from such innovations. But Abedi, Weah and the older generations never had that opportunity/privilege, so you must be extremely good to be discovered and given a chance to play in Europe, mostly when you are already in your 20s. Eto, Kanu etc had the opportunity to play in Europe at a much younger age, and for a team like Barcelona/Ajax ect that won a lot of laurels. The U-17/U-20 tournaments introduced by FIFA made way for a lot players in the Eto/Kanu/Sammy Kuffour era. A player like Odartey Lamptey who played at the 1991 U-17 Championship has some good number of laurels to his name because the tournament opened ways for him to play early in Europe. Players like Lamptey, Kuffuor, Kuffuor Eto etc would not have been able to achieve as muchas they did if not for the U-17 platform.
But Abedi was winning INDIVIDUAL awards DESPITE the fact that Ghana did not qualify for World Cup,and Marseilles did not win the CL league between 1990-1992.
Form is temporary. But I am talking about CLASS or the QUALITY!. About OVERALL football SKILSS and ABILITIES!Abedi was more skillful than Weah, Eto, Drogba, Okocha, anytime anyday. He was a playmaker and scorer of unbelievable goals. No wonder he was more popular than Weah and all other African players of his era when they were in their prime in France,Germany, Holland, Belgium etc.
If FIFA could include him in the Hall of Fame despite the fact that he has not been to the world cup, then we should just accept how great he was as a player. He is an household name in FIFA, for people like Sepp Blatter, Beckenbeaur,Pele,Joao Havelange etc all
I conceed to the fact that Weah and Eto won more laurels, but there were factors that made it so, not because they were better than Abedi!
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo: 5:51pm On Apr 23, 2012
Yeah, I would agree that Eto played at the highest level, but I am referring to players that were in an era that was close to or same as that of Abedi/Weah. Eto/Drogba became hits much later after Weah/Abedi have long retired, so I did not compare them.
Please, note that I am not just talking about goal scoring(which grabs all the attention/publicity/awards).Strikers are naturally advantaged in that regard. Eto and Weah were very good strikers who scored a lot of goals, so naturally, they would most probably win more awards(FIFIA encourages goals).
But Abedi was a midfielder who had a knack for scoring incredible wonder goals out of individual brilliance, as if he was a striker. Am talking about overall abilities, including goal scoring, dribble, defending, playmaking, motivating and carrying a team on his shoulders with individual performance....the complete football artistry on the field of play that motivates teams mates for results......
Even at the twilight of his career, he dusted players like Gullit and Baggio when he played against them in the Italian league. He was voted the best foreign player in the Italian league in 1994 when the likes of Gullit, Rikaard etc were playing actively. That was a season before Weah was voted best world player in 1995,

My friend, stop deceiving yourself.

Anybody that knows and understands football would never put Abedi and Okocha in the same rank. Abedi is far ahead of him.
In modern day soccer, skill, speed, stamina and ability to score and/or create great goals are what stands a player out, especially strikers and midfielders. Maradona, Romario,Messi and Abedi are all noted for these.Do you think Abedi was called to Ghana BlackStars team at the age of 16 for nothing? Rememeber Ghana beats us, so we cannot say their team was a weak team! He was the best rated African footballer by FIFIA from 1990 to 1994, before George Weah was voted WFPOY in 1995. His ball control, speed, dribbles, skills and goal scoring abilities are generally at the highest level. He never played at the world cup, but he is better known, respected and honoured by FIFA president and officials than even other players like Okocha that went to the world cup 3 times. He is better known and recognised by UEFA, CAF, Pele, Beckenbeur, Platini,Maradona, Gullit, etc more than African players that played at the world cup. Can you tell me why?
George Weah is the only African player that played at the level of Abedi's performance. Go watch their exploits in the French League and you would realise that Okocha is a baby when compared to them

Have a look at the list of the best-rated footballers in the world. Show me the name(s) of your much vaunted players. Milla, Abedi, Weah made the list.
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo:
My brother, Tony Baffoe (of Ghana) captained his club in Germany, long before Yeboah became a hit at Frankfurt. You cannot know about Ghana-Nigeria football history more than me. I can give u the list(off-hand, without reference to any source,)of the Ghana Black Stars from the 1992 to present day. Same for Eagles
If Tony Yeboah (a striker)scored more goals than Abedi(a midfielder), does that automatically make him a better footballer? Is Ronadlo a better footballer than Maradona just because he(Ronaldo) scored more goals? You are using number of goals to judge who is better between a playmaker and a striker!

There is no amount of blind sentiments that can make Okocha equal to Abedi. Go and check the annual FIFA ranking of players from 1990 to 1995. George Weah was ranked higher than Abedi only in 1995. Tony Yeboah made the list in 1993. Roger Milla was ranked for the 1990 W/Cup tournamant only .Abedi was the overall best and highest for the rest years. That was an era of great worldclass players like Baggio, Romario, Papin, Klinsman, Van Basten, Gullit, Schilacci, etc. Abedi dusted most of them on the field of play.
Go and watch UNCOUNTABLE unbelievable wonder goals that he scored at Lille and also at Marseilles....Okocha was not up to half of Abedi. Go ask Eagles defenders of the early 90s and they would tell you. Okocha plays to the galllery most of the times. Abedi did the impossibles on numerous occassions. Dd you watch the 1991/92 European Champions League match betwee Marseilles and Red Star Belgrade? Did you watch the 1995 friendly between Norway and Ghana? Did you watch the 1992 Nations Cup?Go watch and come tell me

My friend, stop arguing out of context.

I mentioned Drogba in comparism to Keita, just to show that winning more team laurels(e.g Keita) does not necessarily make a player better that another in terms of INDIVIDUAL ABILITIES. You also must compare their roles/positions and the era they belonged to
Can you say Ronaldo/Ronaldinho were better than Maradona just because they won more laurels than Maradona?. Would you say Kanu/Keita was better than George Weah because Kanu/Keita won more laurels(even if George Weah did not win the World Footballer of the year in 1995)?
Abedi first played for Ghana at age 16(in 1981 during a 1982 Nations Cup qualifier against DRC Congo in Zaire) at a time when there was nothing like U-17 or U-20 competitions.

If you do not know that Okocha is far below Abedi in terms of overall football abilities, then I am sorry to say, it is either you are ignorant of Abedi's exploits in France/Italy, or you dont know football, or you are delibertately defending your fellow citizen blindly. Please, get in touch with Lille and Marseille and ask for his tapes. Or you may watch the Ghana/Nigeria Semi-Final match at Senegal 92!

By the way, Tony Yeboah was not the captain of Frankfurt when Okocha was there...he was the top score for about 3 years!

how about samuel kuffuor having a nigerian father??

Yes.....to both questions!
They are well acknowledged facts by both Weah and Kuffour
Sports › Re: Ghana Or Nigeria? Who Is Generally Better In Football by mikeapollo:
chucky234: Guy Kanu is ranked 4th best in African player of all time and has far more laurels than Abedi Pele.
In terms of talents Okocha is miles ahead of Abedi pele, bros no dull me.
You dont seem to know thw difference between INDIVIDUAL and TEAM LAURELS. An average player can benefit from a team's performance to win laurels.
A player can win laurels if his teams wins something, even if he is a bench warmer and does not play very regularly! How many matches did Kanu play for the teams where he won the laurels? Was he a regular sub or super-regular player?!

But Individual performance laurel is purely on the overall individual SKILLS,abilities and consistency of a player. For example, Keita is a member of Barcelona and he must have won more laurels, but he is not better than a player like Drogba! For instance, Amuneke is better than Keita, eventhough has won more laurels because of the success of his team, Barcelona, and not because of his oustanding skills/performance. You need to understand that first before anything!

And if I may ask, which and who made the ranking you are talking about? In African history, only George Weah and maybe Roger Milla can be mentioned in the same breadth as Abedi. And Abedi is the most skillful. Abedi is ranked higher than the likes of Rabah Madger,Theophilus Abega etc.

Abedi was ranked/rated the 5th best footballer in the world in 1991/92, at a time when players like Gullit, Baggio,Romario,Van Basten, Maradona,Schlacci, Papin, Klinsman, etc were playing active soccer. He was recognised on the strength of individual abilities on the ball, despite the fact that Ghana was not doing well and did not even qualify for the World Cup. It is like George Weah not going to the world cup.
Abedi was ranked and rated by FIFA higher and better than all other African players from 1991-1994. It was only in 1995 that George Weah broke the records to win African, European and World Footballer of the year awards. Before 1995, African players were not considered for the European footballer of the year award.

My brother, dont compare Okocha with Abedi. Please, before you talk, try and get some tapes of when Abedi was playing for Lille and Marseilles in the French & Champions League and watch. He was the Diamond of African football. He was not just called 'Pele' for nothing. Many people who did not watch European club football did not get to see him because Ghana did not qualify for the the world cup during his time, but Okocha was lucky to go to the world cup and Olympics....even at that Okocha was always a substitute under Westerhof. Our midfield then was controlled by Oliseh/ Thompson Oliha/Amokachi.It was after Westerhof had left that Okocha started playing full 90 minutes.

Okocha played for Frankfurt, but the main star of Frankfurt at that time was Tony Yeboah. Okocha confirmed that he was not always playing full time, so he used an opportunity he had to dribble a whole defence of players in a particular match before he scored the goal. That was a singular wonderful performance, but go and watch ucnountable spectacular displays by Abedi in ther French aleague and European Champions League between 1990-1993.His goals were breath-taking incredible individual wonders!
Do you remember the goal he scored at the 1997 Africa vs Europe match at the Meridian Cup in Portugal? Super Class Goal from sheer individual brilliance!

Anybody that does not know the history of Ghana and Nigeria as regards football should try and find out before making comments.
It has been a very fiery, but healthy rivalry between the two countries. Ghana was simply better than Nigeria in ALL ramifications in football in the 50s through the 70s/early 80s.They beat us more, won more laurels and had better players. There was a time they hammered us 7-0 in Lagos. When the National Stadium was opened they played and the Eagles and also beat us here in Lagos.
When their economy collapsed in the 80s, their game went down drastically, they had to withdraw from major competitions; that was the period Nigeria started catching up with them and out-performed them!

In terms of Quality of Players and Football artistry, Ghana is far ahead of Nigeria. They produce better quality players, mostly the midfielders. Their player(s) had won the African Player of The Years as far back as 1970/71 and on 3 or 4 other occassions, before Rashidi Yekinni won it in 1993 for the first time for Nigeria in very controverisl circumstances.

The first African professional footballer to play in Europe was from Ghana.

Abedi Pele was the best African Footballer in the world between 1990-1994. I am yet to see any Nigerian player that is as skilful and technically gifted as Abedi.
Nigeria may produce players in larger quantities (because of our 150m population), but Ghana produces better quality! If you compare their 25m population and juxtapose that with the quality of players like Osei Koffi,Kuku Dadzie, Abdul Razak, Mohammed Polo(people like Odegbami/Chukwu/Fabio Lanipekun etc will know them)Robert Mensah,Joseph Carr(best keepers in Africa during their time)Yeboah, Abedi,Sammy Kuffuor,Tony Baffoe,Essien, etc.you would realise they have a relatively richer football pedigree!
Overall, Nigeria seems to be better in producing more strikers, while Ghana looks better in other departments of the game. Nigeria also made more success in the 90s when Ghana had a lot of problems, and Nigerian players achieved a lot, winning a lot of individual prizes.

Despite the hot rivalry, the 2 countries have been very friendly and cooperative. Some Ghanaian players migrated to Nigeria and played for the Green Eagles e.g. Leotis Boateng was part of the 1980 team that won the African Nations Cup for Nigeria.
The Kayode brothers(Dan and Ben) were Nigerians born in Ghana, they grew up there, naturalised and called up to play for the BlackStars.
It has been a friendly rivalry between the 2 countries, and this is why it baffles me when some people who knew nothing until the advent of the internet starts to say that Ghanaians hate Nigerians. They dont, but the attitude of some Nigerians in foreign lands in recent times has caused some tension in the way we are seen

Nigerians and hypocrisy! When will we grow up/mature to appreciate good(or better)things that come from other African nations.?

This Azonto dance, to me, is more creative, interesting and fun than Alanta and Yahoozee combined!
Like someone said, It is not only Ghanaians doing it, and is currently the most popular dance steps among Africans in Europe and beyond.
Nairaland General › Re: Where Do You Find Nigerians Most Uncivilized? by mikeapollo: 4:27pm On Apr 05, 2012
It is this uncivilised behaviour couple with criminal tendencies of some Nigerians abroad, especially in recent times, that has made some countries to be wary of Nogerians. I pointed out this fact in a thread on why Ghanaains/SAfricans hate Nigerians and some people were being sentimental and emotional abou the truth.

In the papers today, Abike Dabiri was lamenting that 457 Nigerians are languishing in prisons in Brazil as a result involvement in drug trafficking and other crimes.
We all know crime is not restricted to Nigeria/Nigerians alone, but the tendency of Nigerians committing crime in foreing countries is alarming. There is crime in South Africa,Ghana ete but hardly do you see many South Africans/Ghanaians committing crime in US/Europe/Canada/Brazil/India etc the way Nigerians are involved.

We have an attitude problem, and some people still expect other countries to worship or praise us just because we are 150m in population! Unrealistic
Politics › Re: Why Do Nigerians Think Ghanaians Hate Them?? by mikeapollo: 1:37pm On Mar 28, 2012
A Nigerian govt official (I think Minister or Governor) made a comment recently in repsonse to comparism being made by Nigerian journalist about the state of public infrastructure between Nigeria and Ghana.

He said the volume of tap water that the whole of Ghana consumes is not enough to flush the toilets in peoples' homes in Lagos.! Can you imagine this kind of gutter language from a suppossed govt official in a 150million population!
The statement nearly caused a row between the 2 nations but Senator Obanikoro, Nigeria's High Commissioner to Ghana did a good job to resolve the issue.

It is attitudes and some lousy tendencies like this that made Ghanaians to be very wary of Nigerians!

Exponental: Why are u blaming her? Her removal was not official n nobody officially took it up 2 make her do her official handover. If she could hear on media about her removal, I think she is still waiting 4 d media 2 ask her 2 handover d possesions.
You are a clinical thinker. Very apt.
If I hear my sack on the radio without being given the opportunity to do proper handover, then I will wait to hear you request for a proper handover over the same radio.

Her case is even better than Ribadu who bought a house in Abuja while in office as EFCC Chairman, but lied to the nation that it was his father in-law that bought the house for him. Yet, there was no record where the father in-law bid for the house. That was official coruption orchestrated between Ribadu, El-Rufai and OBJ.
