Celebrities › Re: Ghanaian Artistes To Sue Flavour N'abania Over Song Theft by mikeapollo: 1:48pm On Aug 15, 2012
Nightshift: All the "Bumper to Bumper" generation of Nigerian musicians are copy-cats. All their popular albums are full of fake copies of the great beats of Congolese Soukous music. Those beats from Kofi Olomide, Awilo Logomba, Werrason, and more recently the ones from the popular Toofan from Togo are indiscriminately copied by those Nigerian musicians. Where are you Femi and Seun Kuti, Lagbaja, Adewale Ayuba, Bright Chimezie, Tony Okororji, Majek, Mike Okri?
Thank God for an objective and informed person like you.

Many people here talk loud about things they are even ignorant of.

If you check the Sound City's Music Africa on STV in the early 2000s and listen to the beats of Ghana music and compare to what we are hearing now from Nigeria musicians...you would realise what I am talking about.
It is about 90% a copy of Ghana music style.(the fast tempo highlife or what they call modern Kpalongo/hip-life).
We did not have such beats in the 90s and even up to 5-6 years ago!
Celebrities › Re: Ghanaian Artistes To Sue Flavour N'abania Over Song Theft by mikeapollo:
It is interesting that this matter has come up this way.

I have been saying it for sometime now.
The trhtym, rhyme etc of the reigning fast tempo african highlife beat which virtually every Nigerian young musician is playing now e.g Flavour, Omawumi, PSquare,JMartins, Duncan Mighty,Iyanya even Idris Abdulkareem etc came from Ghana.

There is no doubt that Nigerian musicians have been adopting the new highlife beats(which Ghanaaians call HipLife), but now called Afro hip-hop in Nigeria. The Ghanaians are the original masters of the style, but collaborations and cooperations with Nigerian artistes have made Nigerians to adopt the style as well.

The rhtyhm and beaths in Omawumi's 'Bottom Belle', and Iyanya's 'Kukere' songs are classical examples of what I am talking about. Infact, some of the young boys featured dancing in Iyanya's Kukere video were copied/lifted from some clips of Ghanaians dancing 'Azonto'. It was lifted from youtube

If you recall, it was Sound City's Music Africa (on STV) that exposed the Nigerian music audience to that style of music. We used to see a lot of Ghana music on STV, songs that were faster and dance-hall African highlife. There was a group called Praye with their 'I and My Shordy are One' Song; 4X4 group with 'Oluman Boogey' and 'You May Kiss The Bride'
Then VIP came with their hit song which was very popular in Nigeria and was even adopted by Patience Ozokwo in her album.

Tony Tetuila was the first among the current Nigerian musicians to adopt a similar style when he went into partnership with Tictac of Ghana

After that, virtually every young/new Nigerian musician have all adopted the Ghanaian hip-life style of a beats. rhythm and rhymes in their music.

If you listen to the Ghanaian fast tempo hip-life/highlife songs in the late 90s to early 2000s, and then check the trend in Nigeria in the last 5-7 years, you would see that the current so called Afro hip-hop sounds being played by Nigerian musicians actually are imitations of what they learnt or adopted from Ghana.

Interestingly, Nigerian musicians seem to be using the adopted style more profitably because most Nigerian musicians sing in English, so they are able to reach a wider audience and make more in-roads into Africa, while Ghanaian musicians use more of their local dialects to deliver their lyrics, hence they dont seem to penetrate the larger African markets like their Nigerian counterparts.

But in terms of originality, the current Afro hip-hop beats currently making waves in Nigeria actually came from Ghana.

If you cast your minds back to 10 years ago, there was nothing like that kind of fast paced highlife/ Afro hip-hop style of beat in Nigeria. That was when Nigerian musicians were still struggling to play R&B and American Hip-Hop with people like Eedris, Tuface etc leading the pack.
But right now, check out the trend....the fast tempo highlife is what everybody is dancing to right now in Nigeria.
Politics › Re: Fani-Kayode: Yorubas Won The Civil War For Nigeria by mikeapollo: 1:44pm On Aug 14, 2012
onomeasike: if you read the history of the Yorubas, you will know they are naturally gifted in the art of war. They even had their own civil war before the Nigerian civil war!they constitute the greatest number of Africans recruited by britian for the first world war(see BURMA BOY by Philip Barnaby of Aljazeera.Clearly, they are more war-tested than their southern neighbours. It is not an accident that even the biafran forces that made the greatest impact in the biafran war was led by a Yorubaman shocked shocked shocked.Clearly, that it took the Yoruba stopping him was not an accident.A northerner would never had matched the sophistry of Banjo!!

As regards the point where Fani-kayode refered to Awo,clearly, that is an attempt to denigrate Awo.Awo participated in Gowon's govt after Gowon promised to conduct elections and transfer power to the politicians. How Fani-kayode now decietfully infered that the patriotic request Awo made to Gowon automatically means that Awo was promised the presidency is typical Fani-kayode's loquacious personae. If Awo wanted to be the president at all cost,he would not have resigned from Gowon's govt.
Thank you my brother for your thoughtful and objective analysis. You see, the Yoruba are historically naturally not inclined to fighting any other ethnic/tribal group. It is not in their character to gang-up and fight other tribes.
But the truth is, the Yoruba are very formidable when it comes to war! War is not just about brawn and noise making. You need the right approach, brain, strategy etc.
Politics › Re: Fashola (666) - Lagos: The Unanswered Questions by mikeapollo: 1:40pm On Aug 09, 2012
Sun of god: If anyone does not like what I have to say here, they are quite at liberty to hang themselves. Mr Babatunde Fashola—and I once had occasion to defend him (see “Lagos: The writing on the wall” )—has once again demonstrated one of those traits of wickedness for which I have consistently maintained that he is an anti-people governor, no matter what brainwashed members of the public or Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) apologists say. Mr Fashola demolished Makoko without providing any alternative accommodation for the displaced residents.

A statement was even credited to him to the effect that the displaced people are not Lagos indigenes. But they were indigenes during elections. My advice for him this morning will be lifted from the mouth of a fellow governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko: “We have been able to and prove that government can engage the market women in a very useful way to stop guerrilla or street trading. You don’t just bulldoze shacks and send people into deeper poverty.” (see Return of Greatness published by Gaskia Media Ltd). Whenever I look at the so-called model government in Lagos (a government which puts people in Black Maria for hawking, and has uniformed touts in the name of KAI), I find very fuzzy ideological content, a zero tolerance for dissent, and a gruelling emphasis on morbid capitalism. Sincerely, Lagos crumbles when you apply the Awo parameters.

Dr Mimiko brought development to the doorsteps of market women; he built world standard neighbourhood markets right on the same spot where shacks, dirt and mud had reigned, and the market women are paying only N50 per week—and even that is for the maintenance of the market. On the other hand, the Lagos State government simply bulldozes markets (remember the traders in Osodi) and sends people into deeper poverty. Mr Fashola should visit Ondo State and learn how to be people-centred, beyond decorating Onipanu while Bajulaye rots in utter neglect.

Not that the ACN governors are not doing some positive things. For instance, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is currently engaged in road work, and recently finished work on Queen Elizabeth road following a media publication. The governor has also been facing fire from criminals just because he sacked certificate forgers from the civil service, people who should have been prosecuted and jailed for their crime. In his handling of matters following the last flooding incident in Ibadan, Ajimobi demonstrated a clear understanding of the dynamics of poverty and urbanisation, and chose to engage residents of flood-prone areas in meaningful dialogue and moral suasion, while also taking necessary action. Indeed, but for his positive efforts, the latest flooding incident in the city would have been disastrous. In the area of security, Ajimobi has showed some class as well. And in Ekiti, Dr Fayemi has mapped out a unique plan for tourism development in the state, demonstrating considerable knowledge of the intricacies of tourism in his handling of the Ikogosi project.

Now, to return to the Makoko residents. If Mr Fashola is truly a progressive, he would, while protecting the people against themselves, have provided an alternative accommodation for them. The people had to take their protest to the state House of Assembly, and the pictures of the pathetic situation were published in the papers. Evidently, Mr Fashola couldn’t care less, because he is not in their shoes. Unfortunately, he was elected to assist these people. He was elected to make life meaningful for them. He was not elected to prove that he is right all the time.

The people had schools in Makoko. Just where would their children go to school now? The scene I watched on Aljazeera was indeed a very shameful one. A working governor, particularly one on whose behalf the South-West media seems to exist, should have taken the people’s plight as his own personal responsibility.

It is a lame and illiterate excuse to say that they are not Lagos people. What Fashola did amounts to pure wickedness, but then this is hardly surprising given his lunatic toll gates, his insistence that he could not afford to make the Lagos State University (LASU) a school for the poor while carrying out a morbid increment in school fees, the discredited Lagos local government polls, the excesses of LASTMA and so on. Perhaps the true test of Fashola’s statesmanship is his handling of the Army officers he recently “arrested” on his BRT lane, an event which his media aide glorified while displaying utter tactlessness (‘’Realising that the game was up...” Which game, media aide?). While the Army colonel kept apologising for his misdeed, the governor kept playing to the gallery, asking pointless questions. Did the governor. a lawyer, consider that the man may have faced an exigency having to do with national security? Had the man committed such an offence in the past? If your wife was dying and there was a traffic gridlock, would you rather maintain your so-called law or take the BRT lane and save her life? There are always extenuating circumstances in life, and a man of wisdom will discern the times.

Despite the man’s humility and apology, Mr Fashola promised to report him to the higher authorities. And yet these people pray for the forgiveness of their sins. The man may have been dismissed now, I don’t know, but I definitely have some sympathy for him, and that has nothing to do with his being a senior army officer. By his conduct, that army colonel definitely proved that he was not a lawless scoundrel. I suspect that he had a compelling reason to use the BRT lane on that day. I know that a lot of people will never take sides with soldiers because of the evil things they did in this country, but we should never get to the point that we think that they are useless. Even in the law courts, a proven thief who shows some remorse is granted some consideration. Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the House of Reps member currently under fire from his detractors, was said to have shown remorse and cooperated fully with the Georgia authorities after messing up with a client’s money. For that, he was given some consideration. I see nothing wrong with that. I would rather have a man who shows remorse for his misdeeds than a self-righteous beast who will not be appeased. Handlers of the Lagos governor may wish to learn not to play politics with everything.

Beyond this however lie questions of state finance and the future. Is it true that the state’s treasury is being bled dry on a monthly basis in the guise of tax consultancy? Is it true that nearly all of Lagos State is now the property of one man? That would not be progressive, would it? Where do you find such a precedent? What kind of progressivism is that?

http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/opinion/45412-lagos-the-unanswered-questions
Thanks and God bless you for this candid and objective observations. I have consistently made similar observations but the thoughtless and brainless ACN bootlickers cannot see beyond their nose. (By the way I voted for ACN in 2011)

Fashola is just a heartless arrogant dictator. It is very clear now that his attitude and style of management was the cause of the doctors strike.

One thing I have noticed is that Fashola has mastered the act of telling lies to deceive the people. During the doctors strike, he said he did not have the power to recall the doctors, and that only the Health Service Commission could recall them! But what happened after Tinubu intervened? The same Fashola was the person who recalled the doctors.

On the Makoko issue, Fashola again lied to the wprld that the Makoko residents are responsible for the shrinking of the Lagoon! What a lie! The cause of the shrinking of the lagoon is the same Fashola and his govt who went to carry out a huge sand-filling/land reclamation at Ilubirin,at the tail end of the 3rd Mainland bridge towards Adeniji side. That huge land reclamation was done by Fashola, but he is lying that the Makoko residents' shanties are the cause of the shrinking lagoon(lying against innocent people) and going ahead to inflict another punishment/demolishing without even giving them adequate notice,or alternatives or compensation.
In due course, the Makoko area will be sold to money-bags the same way Maroko was sold!

He deceived the market women in Yaba that he would rebuild the market for them, but he has sold their market-space to money bags. He denies the poor and gives to the rich!

Sometimes, I blame we Nigerians for our misfortune. When Tinubu was having issues with him (because of Fashola's demolishing of markets and complaints by market women and other peasant craftsmen, Okada riders etc to Tinubu's mother), some people were abusing Tinubu. Now we can see that Fashola has no compassion for the poor. He can never win any vote from the poor in this country, not even for councillorship or senate or anything

Power drunk governor!

Boko Haram has NEVER attacked a mosque! And I stand to be corrected.

We should not be deceived into believing that BH is attacking both churches and mosques! It is a ploy to remove the religious angle from the crisis.

What BH has done so far is to lay ambush for some of their targets after prayers at the mosque e.g. the Emir, and attempt to bomb him/her OUTSIDE THE MOSQUE.
It is different from shooting and throwing bombs on people directly INSIDE the churches.
Has BH ever thrown a single bomb into a mosque to kill people during their prayers, like they do to christians praying in the church?

There is obvious religious conmection to this crisis and the earlier we address it the better

In any case, Cecilia Ibru's properties in Nigeria and abroad suffered the same fate! Was Sanusi also having a personal beef with her?

However, Nigeria needs to get a lot of things right.
Just this year, it was confirmed by both WHO and the Nigerian govt that Nigeria is responsible for the new spread of polio/other contagious diseases to other countries in West Africa. The diseases, particularly polio, had been virtually eradicated in some West African countries, but latest cases of the polio virus/disease were traced to have originated from Nigerian sources, especially the north.

Please, let me advise people on this issue! The poster of the videos claiming that TB Joshua edited his videos...the poster is totally confused or does not have accurate records of TB Joshua's prophecies.
They are mis-matching the prophecies. For instance, the day TB Joshua made a prophecy about the plane crash in Indonesia, we all saw it as he said...the colour was blue and it happened on a wednesday as prophecied. Infact, a lot of people here attested to that.

This poster is just mischievous. Why are they making reference to very old prophecies which they themselves are either deliberately mismatching to discredit the man of God. Why referrring to prophecies that are years ago.
The point is TB Joahua gives a lot of prophecies, some may sound similar, but some details will be different. Some may happen a short while after the prophecy, while some may happens months or even years away. He also repeats/makes reference to some of the prophecies in later/subsequent services, this is why sometimes you see him in different clothes talking about the same prophecies., They should not mismatch his prophecies. But if you have a complete record /dossier of his prophecies and maybe approach him for clarity, you will know that his prophecies are almost 100% accuarate.

This is man that gave a prophecies and all came to past....including the football matches that we thougth could never happen....e.g that Eagles would not qualify for CAN 2012.....and it was given 7 days before the match was eventually played

The people who compiled the videos should seek clarification from the prophet on any prophecy instead of mis-matching them to discredit him or cause confusion

This is what you get when people are ignorant, shallow thinking and praise medicocrity!

The shores/coastal lines in Nigeria are under the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority. No court order was obtained to evict the people. No alternative(s) or compensation was provided. And you sent police armed with live ammunition to go carry out an illegal action of eviciting people from a place they have been living for over 20 years. Now the people sleep in their canoes, day, night, in the sun and in the rain! The person(governor) who sent them is to be held responsible.
Fashola is a dictator and is responsbible for the deaths of some people. And he has been doing all these things against the poor people'

Check the records:
1.Demolition of poor peoples houses under the guise of road constrcution/physical development(but he did not destroy Civic Centre opposite Law School.Infact the road construction there was compromised in order to leave the building untouched because the building belongs to a very rich man
2. LASU school fees hike, and using police to suppress the students
3.Yaba Market fraud....taking over shops/stalls from poor market women and selling them to rich people
4.Lekki toll gates imposition....and using police to suppress the protests
5. Sack of 800 doctors...and using the police to disperse them forcefully from their meeting venue
7. Demolishing poor people's house at Makoko..and using police to suppress protesters.

Fashola is the worst anti-poor people governor in the democratic history of Lagos. He wants to take that shore line and sell it to the rich.He has not done anything that benefits the poor. The projects he claims to be doing are all located in elitist ares. Nothing in Agege, Alimosho, Ikorodu areas etc where the bulk of the masses live. Only sinking boreholes and generators to water flowers/street lights. No single low cost housing estates that low income earners can rent/buy. No single new market has been built for poor women to earn a living from. Even Tinubu with all the misconceptions some people have about him, did all these things for the poor people in the grass roots. Even built more schools. How many schools has Fashola built?

When a governor wakes up in day to tell the whole world that he has sacked the whole 800 medical doctors in the state(many of whom had started practice before he became governor) and goes ahead to call them 'irresponsible' and vows not to recall them until a higher power (god-father) intervened, then we definitely have a dictator in our midst as governor!

Yet this is the person some people call 'best governor'! We must be in serious trouble as a nation.

We will continue to have bad governance with impunity in Nigeria because we have so many shallow thinking and ignorant people/followers who worship and praise mediocrity.

May God grant the soul of the poor man (this will never happen to a rich man in Ikoyi/VI e.g Civic Centre owner) rest in peace.

It is definitely a crime to be a poor man under Fashola's Lagos Govt!

This is what you get when people are ignorant, shallow thinking and praise medicocrity!

The shores/coastal lines in Nigeria are under the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority. No court order was obtained to evict the people. No alternative(s) or compensation was provided. Now the people sleep in their canoes, day, night, in the sun and in the rain! And you sent police armed with live ammunition to go carry out an illegal action of eviciting people from a place they have been living for over 20 years. The person(governor) who sent them is to be held responsible. Fashola is a dictator and is responsbible for the deaths of some people. And he has been doing all these things against the poor people'

Check the records:
1.Demolition of poor peoples houses under the guise of road constrcution/physical development(but he dis not destroy Civic Centre opposite Law School.Infact the road construction there was compromised in order to leave the building untouched because the building belongs to a very rich man

He wans to take that shore line and sell it to the rich.He has not done anything that benefits the poor. The projects he claims to be doing are all located in elitist ares. Nothing in Agege, Alimosho, Ikorodu areas etc where the bulk of the masses live. Only sinking boreholes and generators to water flowers/street lights. No single low cost housing estates that low income earners than rent/buy. No single new market has been built for poor women to earn a living from. Even Tinubu with all the misconceptions some people have about him, did all these things for the poor people in the grass roots. Even built more schools. How many schools has Fashola built?

If a governore wakes up in day to tell the whole world that he has sacked the whole 800 medical doctors in the state(many of whome had started practice before he became governor) and goes ahead to call them 'irresponsible' and vows not to recall them until a higher power (god-father) intervened, then we definitely have a dictator in our midst as governor!

Business › Re: FG Engages Ghana On 'Trade Discrimination’ Against Nigerians by mikeapollo: 5:35pm On Jul 20, 2012
bigdoo: Ghana people hate Nigerians with a passion. I cannot tell you enough about my experience with them in London either at workplace or in business. I would never go to Ghana to do business as a Nigerian.
You are talking about London. How do other Africans relate to us? Is it better than how Ghanaians relate to us? How do other Africans relates with Ghanaians, S/AFricans, Kenyans etc compared to how they relate to Nigerians?
How do Europeans, Americans etc relate or interact with Ghanaians, S/Africans, other Africans, etc compared to how they relate to Nigerians? What is their general impressions about these different nations?

The answer would tell you where the major problem lies.....Attitude!

Back to the Ghana economy, I think they should be flexble in how they enforce that law, especially against ECOWAS nations.

But the truth and danger is, our leaders have made us to become like a big trouble to other neighbouring nations. Ghana is 25 million in population while Nigeria is 150 million. And Ghana is the 2nd most populous nation in West Africa. If there are no good controls in their economy, Nigerians would flood the whole place and over-run them because of our superior population! That is their fear!
They may not bother much about other W/Africans like Mali, B.Faso,Togo etc because those countries have very little/insignificant population in Ghana.

Again, many Nigerians have been involved in some bad deals, armed robbery, rituals,419,lawlessness etc so that also seem to make them to specifically look out for Nigerians especially the ones that do not have the required documentations like company registration, fire certificate, VAT registration, tax registration etc, although there are many legitimate Nigerian businesses there who are doing fine and they have no problems!

Nigerians were the best and most loved foreigners in Ghana in the olden days, from their pre-independence days up to early 90s. The Nigerians then were 99.5% Yoruba who were cocoa farmers, artisans, market men/women, businessmen, transporters. Yoruba people were EVERYWHERE in Ghana, all the 10 regions, including the cities, towns and vllages. Infact, some Ghanaians could speak the Yoruba language eventhough they had never been to Nigeria. They learnt the language from their Yoruba neighbours who they call 'Anago' or 'Alata'.
But nowadays we have ritualists, 419,robbers, criminals, kidnappers from Nigeria who have made things worse for other genuine Nigerians doing legitimiate business over there and elsewhere.

The Nigerian and Ghanaian govts should resolve this matter as soon as possible because people just need to have some hope outside this horrible environment called Nigeria. Thank God not every country is as terrible as Nigeria!

Can they maintain the air-conditioning system?

The first set of lectures rooms in OAU(Ife) were constructed with central cooling systems. But high overheads and lack of maintenance culture has made them moribound!
Even it has become difficult to maintain cooling fans in a lot of schools
Politics › Re: Fashola Arrests Army Officers On BRT Lane by mikeapollo: 1:28pm On Jul 18, 2012
The Governor acted just for the sake of formalty because it would have been odd for him to just stand there and do nothing while the BRT lane is being used by other vehicles. But that is how far the Governor can go. He cannot do anything more than that.

There is need for LASG to be educated about the limits of who and who they can arrest! There are some professions that deal with emergency and such professions e.g Medical doctors, Nurses, Military etc have the right and privilege to use the BRT lane when situtation demands.

If I were to be a medical doctor and I have an emergency to attend to, or my patient is in a critical condition, I will use the BRT lane even if the Governor is personally conducting traffic on the road. That is the standard everywhere in the world. All this idea of causing huge hold-up and delays on the express while the BRT lane is free and redundant should be stopped. Of what use if people are held up in traffic for 3 hours and the BRT lane is empty and there is also no BRT bus in sight.
The most sensible thing to do is for the LASTMA/Police officer to conduct the traffic in a way to direct/allow some vehicles to use the BRT lane in order to ease traffic on the main road, then close off the BRT Lane when traffic normalises.
All this senseless gra-gra attitude of the LASG must stop!

My friend,
Unless you have some experience in a family/personal business that you may want to re-start, I would not advise you to just go into any business with N2.5m(£10,000).
Being a graduate and having spent 15 years in the UK, I would seriously advise you to get a Masters degree in a good field/area.
It will pay you better in the long run. You can consider MSc in Information Technology or E-Business Technology in some UK schools(Cost is between £9000-£13000 on the average. Or you can get some practical knowledge/skills/certification in SAP if you can. These can open many opportunities for you both in UK and Nigeria when you return. You can learn SAP in UK, become a consultant, get the experience.....jobs/projects will be looking for you.

If you want to come to Nigeria and you know of any business to do, you may venture into it. But genrally speaking, the businesses that are doing well, especially in Lagos/Ogun State axis are:

1.Commercial Transportation... You can get some good Ford or VW buses to use for commercial purposes

2.Truck / Haulage Business....trucks like MAN DIESEL, MACK & DAF are the common trucks. A good one can serve you well enough to buy another one. You can arrange with some manufacturing/shipping companies in Sango, Apapa, etc for haulage and transportation of their goods. You need a good driver

3.Restaurant/Bar/Drinking Joints.....Nigerians like to drink! Shayo na bastard!

4.Chemist/Pharmacy.....No drugs in the hospitals so we all patronise the road-side sellers. But you may need to use/partner with a licenced nurse/doctor/pharmacist for you to have a licence store

5.Politics..... is another area where ypu can make money if you have the time, mind and ruggedness.

Best of luck

Anything you decide to do in Nigeria(especially if it requires an office/shop), you must budget for power/light, water, poor infrastructure, bureaucratic delays, corruption, lawlessness, fraudters etc
