chess guru: @ op if a poor man can survive in ph (a plate of food in smelly canteen goes For a minimum of 300 naira), then anyone can make it in lag.Sorry for digressing; Bros abeg how is standard of living generally in PHC? Is there any major difference wt Lag? My coy wanna transfer me frm Lag to Port, same salary, but I will be given some pay as relocation allowance. I can actually turn it down but I'm kind of tired of Lag & want to hv a feel of another part of the country. Pls do u hv an idea of the cost of a 2-bedroom in a nice but not too expensive area? |
Emchio: I'm using this opportunity to thank all those that have in one way or the other contributed to my Nebosh success- the materials, PQ and encouragements, were all helpful. It's been an experience worthwhile!Congrats Bros. I got my own result yest. I got credit. I missed distiction by just 8 points, e pain me small sha, but all the Glory to God cos I did the course under great stress. God will provide us with a good offer Bro. |
PapaBrowne: You guys think business is about sentiments.ntry Sir your submission is contradictory. Business is indeed not about sentiments as u said. That is the reason u must not force airlines to ply routes they dont want to ply. You are going to kill the business! Why are you 'worrying' for these airlines? Are u saying u have more business acumen in aviation business than them??!! These guys are business people. They said they want to ply a particular route, u are here talking about them flying empty planes after 6 months. If the market picks up in those other regions they are not plying, no one needs tell them before they apply to also fly there. That is business for you. Competition! That is what stimulates the growth and creates the much needed employment. Not some biased regulatory policy based on sentiments. Why is this country like this for God's sake?!! No wonder this country is not progressing. |
Congrats! More blessings! |
Looking at it from another angle, its possible the system had earlier credited u wrongly & u made use of the credit. Trust Naija system not too dull na, immediately it wakes up & there is no credit in ur line, it simply throws ur line into debit. Now dnt go & be thinking in terms of days or weeks, the wrong crediting may be months back. |

avalontony: please what is the difference between NEBOSH and BOSSITE? please any clue can be useful, i have tried googling it, but did not get any satisfactory answer. thanks.I guess it's BOSIET u are refering to. The full meaning is Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training. It is a safety training for peeps going offshore. Some companies will not employ u for some roles if u dont have this certification; while some others sponsor their employees for the training as it is very expensive. NEBOSH: National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health is a body that conducts HSE competency assessments and issues certifications for same. Some of their popular certifications are NEBOSH IGC, NEBOSH Envt Cert, NEBOSH Dip, etc. You may go to their site for more info: http://www.nebosh.org.uk/ |
diehard: @ Ms_Janie, No you're not right with your conclusions. Most company will not employ you without some sort of cert and experience. The field of HSE is becoming more competitive and more persons are getting certificates and experience along the way. I know of a friend who lost a job opportunity (worth 700K/month) with all his qualifications and experience on the grounds of not having BOSIET certificate (This certificate is for those working offshore and need water survival training). So, if you don't have experience to back up your job search, then get the certifications. hope that helpsHello Diehard. I have been following this thread for a while (though I do not comment much) and I know u as one of the people that have consistently contributed immensely. Nice one, pls keep it up! |
2013-08-01 23:00:53 Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, has ordered the arrest of policemen fingered in the killing of two boys in Badagry. The PUNCH had reported that an undergraduate of the Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwaikpor, and his friend, Kazeem, were beaten to death by policemen and hoodlums in Ajara area of Badagry on July 21, 2013. Manko, who said he would head investigation into the matter, blamed the Badagry Divisional Police Officer, Mohammed Dankoli, for tagging the late schoolboys armed robbers. The CP added that he ordered the immediate arrest of the policemen spotted in the video clip which showed how the boys were killed by members of a vigilance group. He said, "Actually, the Divisional Police Officer did not present the matter to us the way it happened. When we started asking questions, we discovered that the two people, who were killed, were not armed robbers as alleged contrary to what the DPO told us. "When we saw the video clips and watched the way those boys were killed, we told ourselves that we would be failing in our duties if we fail to bring everyone involved to justice." Manko said he was not satisfied with the slow pace at which investigations were done and ordered the transfer of the matter to his office at GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. He also mandated a senior police officer in charge of Maroko Police Station, CSP Johnson Adenola, who he described as "an upright man" to superintend the trial of all civilians and policemen fingered in the matter. He said, "Initially, the matter was sent to State Criminal Investigation Department, but they were not moving at the pace I expected them, so I decided to take over the matter personally. "I have brought the best hands in my command together under the leadership of DPO of Maroko Police Station, whom people have discovered to be an upright police officer. "He and his team would be supervised by me and we would ensure that people do not take laws into their hands next time. No one has right to take the life of another. We have one suspect in custody already and we will get the others. I will not tolerate impunity by anyone." Source: www.punchng.com Nice one from CP I guess. Let's hope its not just talk. The Nigerian Police needs to 'up their game' wt regards to discipline. They have been embarrassing us for too long. Wt all these absurd & shameful incidents happening in the presence of policemen, the more civilised parts of this would would hv come to the conclusion tht Nigeria is a babaric country where everything goes. May God help us & may we help ourselves. |
Good info. Thanks guys. But house be informed about the new strategy of Lagos Uniformed men. This time around... VIO. Whenever they collect ur licence they will check it on this website. https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org/ If the details does not come, then u re in for it. They will just declare tht its fake & then cut u a ticket for a 10k fine. |
breathless: Night Vigilme too! |
My Brother I understand how you feel. A lot of people at one time or the other have been in your shoes and have come out of this kind of situation better focused and more equipped for life. Instead of going out-rightly for another degree in Pet Engineering which will cost u a lot in respect of time, energy, finance & your emotions sef. Just try and do a MSc in a field that relates to Medicine but not to the core. You may consider MSc. Occupational Health and Safety. After doing that coupled wt some other professional courses in Health, Safety and Environment, you may still find yourself in the Petroleum industry or any other industry/manufacturing organisation. Going back to do another Bachelor's degree after studying medicine for so many years is going to stress u out especially if u are in Nigeria. I pray it should not go and break u sef . Doing it abroad may be less stressful. |
This is so so true. I experienced the same rubbish wt this Bank. I am surprised some people are of the opinion that its Access that brought this about. Intercontinental Bank has always been like that. That was the reason i abandoned the account. My account was dormant and i decided to reactivate the account thinking they would have changed as a result of the merger wt Access, i never knew that they are even more radical now in respect of deducting customer's account. After reactivating the account, I started experiencing different strange deductions. The day I decided I needed another account to separate some cash I designated for some particular purpose, I had the option of opening a fresh FBN account, but I was just tired of having so many accounts and decided to reactivate that Access account, I am seriously regretting that move now. Immediately my ATM expires on the account, I am closing the account. This is so so terrible. On a particular day i confronted the manager of a branch about all these deductions, I made him to realize that this is a savings account and the interest they give me monthly is hardly above 20 naira, yet they deduct almost 200 naira montly from the savings account. Imagine the irony. The guy was just speaking gibberish. |
Bearshare: The NEBOSH HSE for Process Industries Certification course covers a broad range of topics in Process safety, as well as safety and environmental issues specifically associated with process industries. On the NEBOSH website, this qualification was listed as an Award & not a certificate. Infact b4 I could locate it on their site took a while. I was all along wondering where it came from b4 discovering tht NEBOSH qualifications are listed as Diploma, Certificates & Award. And the HSE PI was listed under awards. From the foregoing, I'm of the 'opinion' tht it may not carry the weight tht others listed as Certificates carry (I may be wrong sha). Anyways this just serves as caveat. Moreover, no knowledge is wasted. Btw PLS I'm interested in an ISO 14000 training in Lagos. Pls I would appreciate any information on where I can do this training. |
Wow, nice post. Wt renting accomodation in Lagos, one needs all the advice & tips available. I can't even imagine getting duped after using almost a year to save for a decent accomodation tht I can raise a family inside People wicked for this life oh. |

You seem not to be informed. Go and read about the Korean war & see wht the Chinese did to the Americans. The Chinese practically secured the position the North are today for them. The North was already over-run by the South & American forces after a series of capture & re-capture of each other's territory. The Chinese are smart, they knew the Americans were goin to push the war into China & so they entered the war whn the North was about to be completely annihilated. War is not won by numbers as u rightly put it, but its not only numbers the Chinese hv got, they are cunny!!! They are masters of strategy & endurance. And they also hv technology as well. All America is good at is goin to war wt allies & bullying small nations. the Americans even considered using nuclear weapons when they could not resist the Chinese during the Korean war. The Chinese confused the Americans so much with their strategy & they succeeded in pushing them back into the present day South Korea. Its an interesting war, try & read it up, I'm sure u'll find it exciting. The Americans are just hypocrites.if u study this war, u'll be surprised at the level of crimes against humanity perpetrated by US. Hw they were purposely blowing up dams to flood the entire North. Hw they were purposely destroying Agricultural lands to starve the North. North Korea goin to war with the South & America will definitely draw China in. China not joining the war will bring the American threat to their door step. They were smart enough to see that in the past and they will definitely see it again. |

e-herbal:Bros this church u re talking about has a very very big compound. And they hv a security post manned more by police men sef (especially during programs)than civilian church security. Not sure whether its a police station anyways but it is even painted in NPF colours & policemen are always there. I support the detention of any trouble maker in programs like ds. People shuld try & be objective on issues. Even d secondary sch I attended (a Federal Govt college) has a security post where they can detain serious trouble makers b4 they re transferred to police stations. Do u hv an idea of wht 'few trouble makers' or unruly people can cause in an event tht has hundreds of thousands of people? Although I'm not an MFM member but I hv been to tht prayer city before and I can authoritatively tell u tht no hawking & street trading is placed conspicuously & strategically all over the place. If u live in Lagos u'd agree tht people tht hawk & engage in street trading re just too stubborn & difficult to manage(even by the govt). Me I'll never support police brutality sha. But one thing I noticed is tht Nigerians are generally not orderlly & does not like submitting to protocol. We should always encourage & support things being done in an orderlly & appropriate way. |

If the guy was ok. I just ignored him & went my way, seeing this on nairaland nw, I remembered immediately. This is so comical. And sort of embarrassing to me as a guy sef. I can't imagine my Bro coming home wt artificial pink lips, |
This is so funny, I was so confused today while passing thru Ikeja underbridge & one guy was calling me "Bros, come here for ur tatoo & pink lips!" I was wondering within myself, |
shymexx: ^^^Pakistan Army is arguably one of the best in the world - they build their own training aircraft, have more nuclear warheads than most western countries, have missile building capabilities, and are presently operating about 905 military aircraft... They're far ahead of us...Pakistani army may be superior to the Nigerian army but u guys are just over rating this Pakistani Army. Do u know how many times the Pakistani army has messed up with India & they were given slaps on the head by the Indians. You guys should should go and read the full account of the different Indo-Pakistani wars & you'd be embarrassed about the flops of this Pakistanis. Even when they had the strategic advantage of surprise they still flopped. And they were even been supported by the United States all these times oh. Just because they were able to develop nuclear weapons almost 20 years after their arch-enemy, India made theirs doesn't make them so so special. Although they are still ahead of the Nigerian army but I don't see us gaining anything meaningful frm these dudes men! |
diehard: @Milito & Brainwave, The 'E' part of the HSE is still very relevant in Nigeria, But most of the jobs for env'tal specalists are not from the big IOCs. the reason is that the env'tal impact of oil exploration can only be done by independent company sanction by DPR. Even communities are becoming wiser now and are exploying this companies to assess the impact in their community cos the data can be used to sue for damages against this oil companies. I've seen some of this law suit backed by env'tal studies claiming for damages running into billions of naira. and there very few env'tal specialists in nigeria.@Diehard thank u so much for ur input. I really appreciate it. In order words, if u re an envt specialist, floating an Envt consulting coy will not be bad idea. |

So when does dating actually translates to courtship? cos understanding when courtship actually starts will assist in the assigning of a time frame. Different people, communities, religions, families, etc hv their own different ideas of wht courtship is & whn it starts. Well I'v once attended a particular church prog & d church maintained tht courtship only starts when the guys has proposed. |
skiduski: hello all,Thank u so much for the materials, will sure keep in touch. |
duintes: Excellent thread. You guys have done a great job here. Got on to this thread while researching HSE career prospects and options for a mentee. It appears the focus here is more on Health and Safety. This tends to suggest that the "Environment" aspect of the discipline is still in its infancy in Nigeria or is not very much appreciated.I indeed found this very useful. I have a keen interest in the 'Environment' aspect of HSE, but as u said it seems its not as favoured as the Occupational Health and Safety Aspect. Brainwave and co. u are really doing a wonderful job on this thread. |
. Doing it abroad may be less stressful.
