The point here is that religious extremism is dangeroue whether perpetrated by muslims or christians. Fact is, we are all better off without all these religions-christianity, Islam, Hindu and co. Their books and teachings can be vague and susceptible to misinterpretations and extremism. Christians have done their own in the past now it is the turn of Islam to do its own. Religion is a curse!

No matter the views one has regarding tithes for example, wouldn't it be right for the church to show an example in accountablility by publishing regular information about the church finances?

Mods, please, there are many useful topics, some that can save lives, some that can give incredible business ideas to unemployed bums or pple. It is God that chooses what kind of fisherman you will be. For me, they are all good. God is not interested in competition. If it is God that puts you in any category, then He gives the required grace, power to accomplish in that category. No one is better than the other. They are all important to God. In fact your pastor missed one category: EXAMPLARY FISHERMAN. This one just sits by the river bank, comfortable, resting, happy, eating what the fish like best, especially the smell, and they all swim to the shoreline begging to be taken!

You must WALK with God to WORK for Him, that way you do not worry which group you belong because He puts you there. The 'fleshy' christian might judge you but if you are WALKING with God, you are free because He orders your steps!

Christians seek that relationship with God, enter into His rest, WALK with Him so you will be confident you are in the right place and no preaching will whip up unnecessary sentiments that will make you guilty.
You said your pastor's preaching made you feel guilty that you are not doing enough without confirming which category God has placed you? You do not choose what to do for God, He fixes you where He has carved for you!
Sometimes God wants us to rest, sometimes He wants us to move, sometimes too He wants us to wait, but we must be WALKING with Him in a relationship to know what. May God give us understanding.

The 'purported' Christ's birthday is a birthday all Christians presumably should celebrate.As a Christian you have ur own programme for that day. Some will choose to go to the club,some will go visiting their loved ones,some will go on a drinking spree and some others might choose to be engaged in extra or pre marital s.ex. some visit the motherless babies home and show lov.e to the less privilege or destitute.Others might go own to praise God all the way.Christmas is celebrated by the 'Christians' who believe in it the way they like.Christmas isn't urs or mine or any of the pastors'.Some Christians don't celebrate Christmas even.The pastor whom i know celebrates Christmas in the way he want's to and not as the scripture says he (we) should !He calls church members together and gives them salvation message and after which he allows them all to go celebrate according to how they wishes to becos no one has the monopoly of xmas !
Concerning my birthday,i have monopoly of my birthday becos it is mine as given to me by God ! I choose to do what ever i like on my birthday and my friends who are willing to do so,may as well join me. This pastor said he is celebrating his 71yrs birthday and people said they want to attend.He said if you are comming,be ready to join me in praying and praising God for 71 hrs becos that is what i have decided to do on my 71st birthday ! Jesus asked the woman to fetch Him water to drink because it was a strategy to start a conversation. Really? A blatant lie.Why did the pastor not quote from the few verses before?...because they explained that Jesus was travelling thru the night and rested at that point because he was tired. The woman was the first to come by and he asked her to fetch him water since he was tired and had nothing to draw water from the deep well.This pastor has repackaged the incident and now asking you as well to do repackaging.Accepting the gospel was and never will be by force or trickery...if you read the Bible for yourself and stop believing every word that comes out of the mouths of men.

I reserve the right not to like him-its my opinion. A guy whose 71st birthday will be marked with 71 hours of praise and prayers, where do u guys learn that from? Worshiping the preacher and forgetting God!

Syncan: Indeed i fight not. I only wonder if you have problem with what I am saying in black and white or with what you think I am saying.

First you have to be a believer.

Second, you have to "take heed lest you fall" 1Cor10:12. This is only achieved through continued prayer, hearing/reading the word of God,doing good deeds and avoiding occasion for sin.

Third, I entirely disagree with the claim that ones a person is born again, he will never commit sin.There are a thousand and one imperfect acts in man which we often overlook as sinful. More so it is still within reality that someone who is born again can fall into a grave sin such as adultery for example, that's why you are warned to take heed. "The devil like a roaring lion is moving around looking for who to devour"1Pet5:8 is not for unbelievers but for believers. Tell me you've not seen great men of God falling, and some rising again after the fall.

Fourth, when a believer falls into sin as mentioned in third above, what is left for him/her after realization of this, is to be genuinely sorry for this, make restitution if possible, ask God for forgiveness, believe he/she is forgiven, and do good works; for "charity covers a multitude of sin" 1Pet4:8. Let us not be liars, we are not perfect, we get angry, we use harsh words, we avoid doing good for fear of harm, we miss prayers due to laziness, we hold malice sometimes etc. Yes we desire not to do these, and often work hard to mortify our flesh, even these we cannot do without grace. Yet we often find ourselves falling, what do we do? pick up ourselves, dust of the earth and move on again.

Do not make argument easy for you by saying I'm putting good work before faith,what is good work without faith, is it not like a filthy rag before God?
