CAPSLOCKED:
NOT EVERYONE YOU FIND IN CHURCH IS A CHRISTIAN. SOME GO THERE FOR JUST APPEARANCE SAKE, AND TO PLEASE THE EYES OF THE PEOPLE WHO CARE.
I BELIEVE THAT IN SOME GATHERINGS OF RELIGIOUS PEOPLE, THERE ARE MANY IRRELIGIOUS PEOPLE IN THEIR MIDST. POSSIBLY EVEN MORE COMPARED TO THE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE BECAUSE.. PEOPLE ARE WAKING UP.
THERE ARE ONLY A FEW ATHEISTS BECAUSE OF WHAT THE CONCEPT OF ATHEISM IS ABOUT. SOME PEOPLE CLAIM TO BE IRRELIGIOUS BUT BELIEVE IN SOMETHING SUPREME. SOME DO NOT DISBELIEVE IN GOD BUT ARE SKEPTICAL ABOUT WHICH IS THE RIGHT ONE. SOME BELIEVE AND PRAY TO A GOD DIFFERENT FROM THE BIBLE OR KORAN GOD.
A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE BEGINNING TO SEE THE SPADE FOR WHAT IT TRULY IS, AND A LOT MORE WILL JOIN. There have always been people who attend church or the mosque to fulfill a social obligation and avoid stigma from the ignorant majority. And if we're being completely honest most xtians have not read the Bible, they don't know what they're claiming. Likewise African Muslims are reading a book in a language that they barely understand - not only is it a foreign language (Arabic) but it's the ancient, outdated version of said language. |

Hindus are closely like Christians and Muslims, even though I admit that Christians and Muslims are more than them when it comes to rubbing their religions in people's faces. They also like imposing their religion on people if given the chance and especially in societies where they are dominant. If you were in India you would think differently. Hindus are not shy in shoving their religious delusions down the throats of others. |

darkchild64: do you see atheists panning Hinduism or Sikhism. It is because of the way that Christians and Muslims impose their religious view on everyone that makes atheists set out to prove that their "God" is imaginary. An atheist in India might do so because Hindus, in particular, are notorious for making life difficult for those who do not belong to their religious group. Everything from polluting local rivers with dead bodies; to disturbing the peace; to attacking people who dare to eat beef. Religion lends itself to abuse. |

Acidosis: Actually, there are countries that see religion as a heritage and they're doing just fine.
In my own view, I consider quality education as the ONLY way to curb this menace. Unlike what some of us were made to belief, education is not buying textbooks and staying all night reading. It is simply the realization of the classroom promises and the practicability of relevant tools teachers instill in their students.
The Nigerian version of education where people acquire certificates without jobs and a good business environment to operate will only make people rely on wonder healers and wonder business developers. A quality education is one with a good business environment for job/wealth creation.
My brother, whether you're religious or not, you would be tempted to do anything to have a child (including seeing a prophet) if you're unaware of child adoption policies (in social studies) or if the government fails to equip fertility doctors. If you want less patronage for Nigerian prophets, you must do more than telling the people to drop 'religion'. If you say religion is the problem, what then would you say to the same people when they patronize wonder banks? I don't disagree with you most of what you said. I've said the same over the years. I will add that many of the most ardent religious zealots in Nigeria live very comfortable lives, have access to information and have done since their childhoods but seem prone to religious nonsense. Unfortunately what happens is that these 'successful' people sit in church and act as an example to others, especially other religious nutjobs trying to steer their children the wrong way. When something is seen as the norm it is tolerated as acceptable, even when it is utter crap. That is why I fight so much against it. The good news is that the internet has made acquiring information and knowledge easier. Self-improvement is more convenient than ever. The problem is that the religious fraudsters have co-opted the African cyber space to spread their message of stupidity. The other problem is that people in Nigeria have been conditioned to prioritize the wrong thing. We've seen the example of a northern state that decided it better to spend money on Hajj than on the Al-Majiri schools. Individuals make the same peculiar decisions, often under the behest of their religious guardians. P.S. What are 'wonder banks'? |

Knowing when, where and how to draw the line between superstitions/faith/religion and the reality is where education comes in. When I say education, I'm not referring to the average classroom lessons we receive in this country. Yes China has a lot of superstitious people but the core leadership do not pay superstition any heed with the Communist Party of China refusing to affirm the existence of any mythical being. Nigeria's core leadership uses religion to bamboozle the foolish masses to stifle progress and destroy their own environment in the process. |

Butterflyleo: Actually the fundamentally dishonest person is you. Earlier you were rejoicing that atheism was growing in China when it was a lie. And when I pointed out facts you are now trying to explain why Christianity is thriving now in China.
Why are you now shifting from your earlier place of "joy"?
Here I was talking about from 1949 when Mao Zedong ruled and when he proclaimed the single party system of communism in China and officially declared China an atheist state and from 1949 to 1953 Mao Zedong under his atheistic government was responsible for the death and murder of about 60million religious people which was why the population of Christians dropped to 1 million and you are here spewing trash about what I am not talking about all in an attempt to jump ship.
Ogbeni park well. You are an endangered specie. Go and weep.
"China’s estimated 85 million members of the Communist Party have been warned that they are not allowed to have religious beliefs, and that those who do will be punished.
Wang Zuoan, director of the state administration for religious affairs, said that religion undermined communism. Party members must be “firm Marxist atheists, obey party rules and stick to the party’s faith”.
Mao Zedong, China’s first communist leader, tried to destroy religion and the party has long since promoted atheism."
You can continue arguing with your ancestors. You are insistent on arguing against statements that I did not make. I did not rejoice that atheism is growing - I corrected your ignorant comment by pointing out that many of the more established systems of belief had survived in China despite the attempts made by the Communist Party. There is no proof that China was ever a majority atheist nation, certainly not the 99% that you erroneously claimed. You are doing yourself a disservice and proving that religion is about 'Us vs Them', the senseless tribalism that has hampered Nigeria since its inception. If your religion is so wonderful, if it is revealed wisdom from a deity it would stand on its own merits, whether there are 5 adherents or 5 billion. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is Atheism Gaining Ground? by mmsen: 8:16am On Apr 13, 2018 |
Butterflyleo: Lmao I totally understood what you wrote. The Chinese government is an atheist one and as at 1949, 99% of China was atheist with only 1million people as Christians.
Atheism is simply a lack of belief in God or a rejection of God and this means that an atheist is free to do or believe anything else as long ad deification is not included.
The Chinese populace simply now realise the foolishness inherent in atheism which denies them their rights as humans. They now see how desensitized their atheist government is making them become because at a point, life was no longer valued. Their law stipulated that it was financially profitable to kill than to avoid killing (read it up). Families are denied rights to have children. They banned surrogacy, every citizen is being monitored and any negative comment against their atheist government is seen as great treason and punishable by death.
Guy go and rest. You guys are killing your atheism with your own hands and you are gradually becoming an endangered specie. I initially wrote that you are fundamentally dishonest but decided that wasn't warranted. It is now. As per - http://www.sacu.org/religion.htmlThe communist revolution sought to break these ancient connections, but with limited success. While the power of the clan or lineage has declined, the family has remained the focus of production. The rural reforms of recent years have reinforced this. Despite all attempts at re-education by the Communist Party the family cult associated with Confucianism and popular religion still flourishes throughout the countryside, as do so-called 'superstitious practices'.
Peasants saw no contradiction in attending both Buddhist and Daoist worship, nor in incorporating a diversity of gods into the local pantheon. The Confucian state, dominated by Confucian thinking, was generally tolerant of the various religions that contended for the hearts and minds of the people, and other religions were allowed to flourish provided they did not challenge the fundamental Confucian order. Both Buddhism and Daoism inspired heterodox religious systems, and from time to time these broke out in social rebellions, leading to state intervention and attempted suppression. |

Butterflyleo: So now Atheist China is superstitious nonsense because I rightly pointed out that Christianity is booming there and would soon make it the largest Christian country in the world.
If China, as atheistic as they are and considering the way they clamped down on churches about 50yrs ago how they are repeating so again now, yet could not stop the growth and wild fire spread of christianity, what hope then do you think atheism has to grow and increase when even in their own backyard, they cannot contain the spread of Christianity?
Also do note that the growing population of Christians in China are found much more on the sophisticated middle class in booming cities so for you to claim that only the poor are Christians in China is simply foolishness . Christianity is the de-facto middle class religion right now in China and many of them came from families that were not originally christian so get your deluded facts right.
I am not sorry that I came to ruin the party you atheists were throwing by lying to yourselves because facts will remain facts. This is what I wrote: The Chinese state might be irreligious but the Chinese populace have retained their absurd culture ancestral worship. Those becoming xtians have simply replaced or supplemented their traditional superstitions with another peculiar belief, in much the same way that Africans have.
Either you intentionally misunderstood what I wrote or you cannot differentiate between the state and the general population. |

How do i know this? Just start a discussion you'd discover they indeed believe there's God but hatred for Him won't let them surrender to Him
They have demons dwlling in them. When a demon hears 'Jesus', he trembles inside of them and reacts violently throwing up tantrums, but denying there's no God, even when he can't help not talking against Him who does not exist. Where is your proof that they are satan worshippers? What is a demon? |

Butterflyleo: First of all skepticism isn't atheism and does not have to lead to that. Anybody can be a skeptic. Even a religious person can be a skeptic.
Frustrated people also shake their fists at God. It doesn't change a thing.
My point is that atheism statistically speaking isn't gaining ground because it is one thing to sit back and consider the entirety of the universe from the tiniest living thing to the most vast and not arrive at the logical conclusion that they just could not have happened by chance with the level of harmony they now exist on.
Scientifically speaking, a lot of people are now also becoming religious due to their knowledge of science which made them realise that what we have is just too complicated to have been a produce of chance as evolutionists are trying to push.
As some leave religion to embrace atheism, more leave atheism and agnosticism to.embrace God. A clear example is China which is an atheist country and very much scientifically and technologically driven but within a space of about 50years has grown from 1 million Christian population to about 80 million Christians despite the clampdown on Christianity there. Statisticians have projected that by 2030 China would be the most populated Christian nation in the world, a title currently being held by america with 250 million Christians which means that as the population of Christians in America increase, China is meant to increase faster, catch up and overtake so a rough estimate of 350million to 400million new Christians are expected to emege from China by 2030. Which is an additional 340million within the next 12 years.
So you see, atheism isn't growing because even in countries that are core atheist in rulership and laws, religion is and will still thrive because we believe in something and what we believe in is worth dying for. However atheists believe in nothing so hold no ideals which makes their position extremely fragile and very depressingly frustrating for them. The Chinese state might be irreligious but the Chinese populace have retained their absurd culture ancestral worship. Those becoming xtians have simply replaced or supplemented their traditional superstitions with another peculiar belief, in much the same way that Africans have. Religion only grows in places where unrestricted access to information is rare or impossible. The Chinese have their poverty and state censorship, Africans have their poverty and social stigma. Both groups love their superstitious nonsense. |
