yes... bt still its not their village
Why does their 'village' matter?

They didn't grow up there, they barely know the place.

Their grandparents who grew up in that village had grandparents who probably grew up elsewhere.

Will you people stop this nonsense. If they consider Enugu their hometown, then let it be. You do not have to display your insecurities at any slightest op whenever Flavour and Phyno are mentioned.

Enugu is considered Hometown to those of us born and raised there. Because you were born in the village does not mean everyone else was born in the village. You guys should STOP disgracing Igbos.

By the way. This looks like a video shoot for 'Gbo Gan gbom'
If they grew up in Enugu then they are from Enugu, that is where they were shaped. That is where they enjoyed their formative years.

I don't know why some Nigerians are so obsessed with 'villages' that most have never seen.

Who exactly is a rational person?

Who are the "we"

The OP simply asked a question you do not know the answer. There is nothing wrong in saying you do not know.

Isn't there high mortality rate in Nigeria as a whole, not only the villages. Besides the people in the villages are more immune to certain diseases. I think we should be carful to say the people in the city are better than those in the rural area because of a university degree.
A rational person is one who asks appropriate questions and doesn't buy into foolish superstitions.

'We' are the rational human beings amongst us - we find animal remains, human remains, dinosaur remains but never mermaid remains - why is that? We have that which can be supported by evidence.

Nowhere did I mention university. I simply asked why certain beliefs are more prevalent in more remote areas - that question isn't even particular to Nigeria. In America most of the nutcases who claim to see UFOs, ghosts and other nonsense live out in the boondocks.

Cholera is worse in the more rural north than it is in the south - http://www.informationng.com/2013/11/cholera-outbreak-in-nigeria.html.

The same is true of infant mortality.

Which diseases are people in villages more immune to?

I don't think you understand what I'm talking. I'm talking about science being unable to explain mermaids and Jins not about village people inability to cure malaria.

I think we should let this discussion slide.
Have you ever seen a mermaid?

Why have no rational people seen them?

How is that we can find dinosaur remains but not those belonging to mermaids?

Why would anyone waste time explain jinn when they don't exist? Have you ever encountered one?

Again I ask you, why is it that it is only in places with high mortality rates and generally poor standards of living where such things are 'found'?

Talking about Malaria is far away from what I am talking about. As someone who is exposed, have you taken time to study and find out about African Voodoo. Not to worship but to re-examine the divination our ancestor made, how Charms and other stuff work and maybe they ain't real after all. Have you verified before concluding they are fake?

I will take time to visit Nigeria and Ile Ife next year. I want to see the ancient city of the Yoruba etc

Have you read the book called "The Matrix"?
Which African Voodoo works and how?

Which charms work?

The places with the lowest life expectancy rates are also the places with the highest rates of superstitious/religious beliefs.

Have you asked yourself why superstitions thrive so well in remote villages but die in cities and towns where people have access to hospitals, clinics, doctors and information?
Christianity Etc › Re: Do Atheists Believe On Jinns Or Supernatural Beings by mmsen: 11:50am On Sep 28, 2016

Atheism is only a disbelief in a supreme creator, apart from that people hold different opinions due to levels of knowledge. The god ideology once conquered opens up questions and boundaries of thinking. The disbelief in god is probably the only thing most " atheists" have in common.

Life is not based on Material( physical) only, so you are wrong by concluding there aren't wizards etc. But what is Wizardry? That should be the question! Not concluding there isn't, cos that's ignorance.
You are right that strictly speaking atheism is about denying the existence of any deities but the other superstitious elements belong in the same category.

That which you cannot prove should be questioned and disbelieved.

Are we fighting ?

Africans are closer to nature than any other race on the planet, and if the educated( I mean so called intrlligent) ones take time to study the their ancestry "witchcraft" they will realise they are missing out on Natural Science.

The science you learn in school is Material science and less on mental science. I don't want to go too deep because you probably won't understand me. We have let religion hijack these stuff that should be natural to us.

Our ancestors may not be enlightened but they had knowledge our society lack. An African debating weather Marmaids are real or not is a shame. This is how far we have lost our identities

Christoper Columbus himself wrote about seeingmermaids but critics did what they do best by sweeping it under the carpet as usual. No wonder we see the Pyramid of Giza and wonder how the ancient built them. They weren't as daft as today's science label them.

Are mermaid real? The village people in rural communities in Africa will probably be the best to answer that, not people of science who haven't seen it.
Those village people that you speak of are the same ones dying of cholera and maleria in the 21st century.

They are the same people who watch their children die of preventable illnesses in 2016.

The same people with high rates of maternal and infant death.

If you cannot understand that people lie and that gods, mermaids, ghosts and talking trees are lies until shown to be true.

When you are ill do you visit the doctor or do yo u go to see babalawo?

When people are allowed to wallow in ignorance they revert to superstitious nonsense.

There have always been Africans who have argued against religion, superstition and other forms of wilful ignorance. In the past they would have been killed for speaking out, thankfully that no longer happens in much of the continent. Only the most backwards places, such as northern Nigeria insist on persecuting (and killing) those who question the existence of mythical beings.

We are Africans for crying out loud.
What does that mean?

Why is this phrase always used to justify childish behavior and beliefs?

Are you saying that you cannot think rationally because you are African?

Because there are many Africans who are capable of using their brain to come to logical conclusions. Please do you not use you being 'African' as an excuse for being foolish. That is your burden, carry it on your own.
Christianity Etc › Re: Do Atheists Believe On Jinns Or Supernatural Beings by mmsen: 10:39am On Sep 28, 2016
Superstitious nonsense belong in the same category.

If you are a rational atheist then it does not make sense to subscribe to theories such as ghosts, spirits or jinns.

Atheism is about not believing in nonsense for which there is no proof - be it deities, wizards, witches or other forces that provide comfort to the emotionally disturbed.

ArabMopol:
correction shows us that we are not above reproach and that we are accountable for our actions. Our natural pride blinds us to our need for a Savior, and discipline reveals the truth of our wretchedness ( Revelation 3:17 ). Since salvation is the most important choice the child will ever make, it is imperative that parents are leading him to Christ, and discipline is critical to this process. “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die.”, Children who respect authority and feel sorrow for their sin are much more likely to ask Jesus to forgive them and be saved. All children are born sinful Their natural self is destructive and unrighteous. That does not mean they aren’t valuable and worthy of love . they are not born with any natural “goodness” in them. That is why all children to be disciplines, u are part of indomie generation I don't expect u to understand, if u were born in 70s and late 80s u will understand this special discipline trend among parents... over pampered spoil brat
That Bible also says that women should keep quiet in church. Why does no one enforce that particular rule? A rule that is repeated twice.

As well as that stupidity the Bible has this to say:

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material." Leviticus 19:19

"Ye shall not round the corners of your heads." Leviticus 19:27

Why are you xtians such effective selective readers?

ArabMopol:
indomie generation I'm not over pampered, uncultured EDIOT don't even insult my mum, The phrase “spare the
rod, spoil the child” is a modern-
day proverb that means if a parent
refuses to discipline an unruly
child, that child will grow
accustomed to getting his own
way. He will become, in the
common vernacular, a spoiled
brat. The saying comes from
Proverbs 13:24 , “He who spares
the rod hates his son, but he who
loves him is careful to discipline
him.” The Lord uses discipline to
reveal our sin to us. This is also
how parents reveal the truth of
our need for a Savior to their
children. When a child does not
feel the consequence of his sin,
he will not understand that sin
requires punishment. The Lord
provides a way to salvation and
forgiveness through Jesus, but
that means little to those who do
not see their sin.
There's nothing modern about the saying 'spare the rod, spoil the child' - that is an old, retrogressive saying that belongs to a bygone era of fools.

People often use the Bible to justify their stupidity. It isn't needed to justify rational behaviour. Beating your child is not rational, nor does it lead to greater productivity or societal discipline.

Your mother mistreated and misled you, sadly you suffer from Stockholm Syndrome and thus refuse to see the truth.

OP amibo the injury might be accidentally...
Your mother was unwell.

And you are foolish for excusing her psychotic behavior.

We need to stop defending evil in Nigeria.

And you do not 'train' children because they are not horses.

You 'raise' children, with dignity and respect and they too will have those qualities to pass onto others.

But when you raise a child in fear in violence then those are the values that they will spread around them - which is how you end up with Nigeria as it is.
