Rossikk: Err...I wouldn't have raised this thread if 2% of Nigerians where Christian, as is the case in the countries you named where the overwhelming majority practise their indigenous faith, with a tiny few involved in foreign religions. In Africa it's the other way round. Oh..and Christianity is not a middle Eastern religion, but a European religion. The Vatican is in Rome, not in Teheran. There's a reason for that. Christianity is not 'indigenous' to Europe. Christianity is based on texts written by authors in the Middle East, in Middle Eastern languages. The Catholic Church is a branch of Christianity based in Rome, just as RCCG is based in Lagos - that does not change the facts that the religion is rooted in Middle Eastern folklore. Why do you say 'Amen' after prayer? Amen is neither Latin, nor Greek. What language did the mythical Jesus speak? Does anyone even allege that he set foot in Europe? How about Abraham, David, Noah, Moses? Which of them visited Europe? Brazil is the biggest Catholic nation on the earth (where coincidentally many of the people there adhere to Yoruba traditional religion), followed by other Latin American nations such as Mexico. Those nations are not in Africa. Islam is not indigenous to Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh or the majority of Muslim nations. Those nations have far more than 2% of Muslim practitioners. Again, Mohammed did not step foot in any of these nations. Buddhism is indigenous to India yet the nation with the largest number of Buddhists is Japan, followed by Thailand. Far more than 2% Japanese and Thais are Buddhists. Religions are spread by force and cultural peer pressure. Very few nations have a majority population that adhere to 'traditional religions'. Your initial premise is based on a falsehood. |

There are millions of Chinese, Korean, Indian and Pakistani Christians and their numbers are growing.
Islam is indigenous to the Middle East but not Pakistan, India or Bangladesh where there are more Muslims than in the Arabian peninsula
There are European Buddhists and Hare Krishnas even though Buddha is said to have come from India, where there are more Hindus.
Christianity is an Abrahamic, Middle Eastern religion, yet it spread to Europe.
OP, your question is completely invalid.
What I hate most about religion is the spread of misinformation and lies instead of the truth. This thread is predicated on a lie. |

California is not even known for oil, a city that houses the biggest film and music industry in the world doesnt get large chunk of its money from oil. So oil cannot be a major resource for development. California is a state, not a city. The oil found there was used to power local industries - which should be the case in Nigeria. |

analice107: Am sure you feel fulfilled now that you have succeeded in letting us know the kind of mind you have. If you believed in God in the first place, then you should asked yourself, whose prerogative it is to do as he pleases, when he please with what belongs to him. Did God create man for Himself or for his children? When God wants to take what belongs to him, will he consult with his family members seeking their permission to do his will? BTW, how did you know the death came from God? If you use death to judge God, then you are the best fool ever. For us Christians, death is nothing bad, it's a passage to eternity. They same eternity giving you atheists constipation. Where is the 'judgement' in my statement? I asked questions. If death does not come from 'god' then he/she/it is not all powerful. If he/she/it acts in an arbitrary manner without due consideration as to how it effects the living then he/she/it is not 'all loving'. |

winner01: Give the names of those books please, i'm interested. The Republic by Plato deals with 'forms of good'. Aristotle dealt with what it means to be 'good'. Aesop's Fables are a collection of tales with moral maxims, they predate the Jesus myth by at least 500 years. Those authors based their theories on ideas that were already around at the time - several hundred years prior to the myth of Christ. The Zororastrians also dealt with the matter of 'good' and 'evil' in their primary religious text - the Avesta, a book that is dated several hundred years prior to the earliest books of the Bible. In the 20th century we had authors such as Betrand Russell who dwelt on the matter, amongst many others. I'm sure that you if you look in a book store or decent library you will find sufficient texts on philosophy that tackle the topic with far greater finesse and depth than the Bible. I suggest that you broaden your reading, the Bible is far from the only or even the oldest text to raise the matter of morality. There were several before it and many after it. Most of the religions that came before Judaism and Christianity dealt with the matter in a non-linear, non-simplified manner. Most of mankind's fables and fairy-tales deal with philosophical issues, the Bible is simply a continuation of that tradition. Sadly, some people have chosen to take children's tales literally. |

winner01: Thank you Sir, you just confirmed my claims; How else can you fight God, but to pretend He does not exist.. We see death as a transition to glory. Death is painful no doubt and at times one may not understand why. But to conclude that God does not exist because people die is not rational. The Bible is the only book that gives a rational explanation on the origin and existence of evil. No other book on philosophy carefully takes care of this. If the Bible was really written by mere humans, then i'm willing to know what kind of superhuman intelligence they possessed. Where did I say that 'god' doesn't exist? I asked why an all knowing/loving being would take a father away from his daughter? There are plenty of philosophical books that deal with good and evil, many of them proceed the Bible. Others came after. Who wrote the Bible, if not 'mere humans'? |
Christianity Etc › Re: Paul Kalanithi: Why I Gave Up On Atheism by mmsen: 5:53pm On Jun 21, 2016 |
I'm guessing that Paul Kalanithi prayed for healing and that his family prayed that he would be able to see his daughter grow up.
Every child needs a father so why would an 'all loving', 'all knowing' god take a father away from his daughter? |

Atheism is the absence of belief in the theory of god(s).
It is not a group of people claiming to have all the answers.
If you wish to know about science then there are scientists who spend their every last waking minute discovering the world/universe that we inhabit.
Maybe it's the fact that many of you have been deceived into accepting that one book has all the answers that you cannot comprehend that no one human being has a complete knowledge of everything. That would explain this thread. |

You see even the northerners that are affected by this boko haram madness rarely travel out of the north, the places they might decide to settle down for the meantime might be neighbouring countries like Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
