monday1962:I am not partisan either but I could never vote for a man who was a coupist turned Islamic demagogue. People who believed that such a man would bring positive 'change' should have their votes snatched away from them, for the safety of themselves and their children. |
Any administration that tries to run Nigeria as a 'unitary federation' is probably destined for failure but this group of people are remarkably dishonest as well as being incompetent and so their failure has been more devastating and more apparent than any civilian administration in Nigerian history. Which elected head of state has been as destructive as Buhari in just one year? Even Yar'Adua's corpse/thieving wife was more effective than Buhari. |
A disgraceful woman, she should be made to suffer the same treatment that this boy has been made to endure. The man is a disgrace too. What kind of person observes silently as a witch abuses his son? |
KekeNash:I'm not expecting anything. I don't look to government for anything. It's more about hurting MTN than anything at this - punitive damages, so to speak. They broke the law, now they can pay the fine. |
This man is usually smart. I hope this is just bloggers making up nonsense. |
KekeNash:The amount per person was made known long ago. MTN was the only company in operation in Nigeria that refused to cut the services to such a large number of users, that is the reason for the fine. It has nothing to do with hatred for South Africa. They knew the rules long in advance - everyone else complied. |
KekeNash:Because the Nigerian government asked a company that breached the law to pay a fine that is now 'hatred'? |
Nutase:The other networks have been cutting their prices so if MTN decide to raise theirs they will lose even more business. |
TheNonce:Speaking of Bi-Courtney, what's happening with the old Federal Secretariat in Ikoyi? |
VGC floods every year and yet people still flock to buy there. |
If there is one country in the ECOWAS region where foreign herdsmen should not be slaughtering citizen it should be Nigeria, considering that the ECOWAS budget is largely funded by Nigeria. If you fly into another ECOWAS airport you need to show your passport which is stamped with entry and exit date, the same should be true with these herdsmen. |
As backwards as backwards can be. |
Addis Ababa sits on high, solid ground while Lagos is largely swampy land, at or below sea level. The topography of Addis Ababa is easier to manage and therefore cheaper to build upon than that of Lagos. Property values in Lagos are significantly higher than in Addis. Population in Lagos is significantly higher than that of Addis. GDP of Lagos alone is greater than that of the whole of Ethiopia. Wages in Lagos are higher than in Addis. Ethiopia has very peculiar land ownership laws - it's the Land Decree that OBJ brought in but several times more restrictive, it's easier for the state to 'acquire' land from private citizens in Ethiopia than in Nigeria. Ethiopia is a one party state, a very restrictive society where the government monitors everything (that it can). Comparing such a system to Nigeria's, on that basis alone, is foolish. |
If his forte is security and he wished to offer his services to the nation as a security adviser or minister then he could have done that. Instead he has claimed to be an effective CEO, which he is not. |
2012? Why is this being rehashed now? And why is it on the frontpage? |
The headline should read - 'Yoruba Elders Agitate for Fiscal and Political Federalism'. That is the solution to any said marginalization and appears to be what we all desire. |
People don't appreciate the good ones until they die. Muhammad Ali was hated by many white Americans for much of his life until he became frail and ill. When he was combative and forthright about American society he was despised by many. Stephen Keshi won a title, took the home-based Eagles to the finals of a tournament that they'd never taken seriously and was lauded by coaches across the globe for his methods and Nigerians were calling for his sacking at every point - even immediately after he won the African Nations Cup. Now fools are crying crocodile tears for this great man whom they failed to appreciate when he was alive. If GEJ died today the same idiots who voted for Buhari would be crying and lamenting his passing and their bad collective judgment. |
Keshi is dead but the useless Pinnick is alive and well. What manner of justice is this? Rest in Power Mr Keshi. |
They got married within two years? People are crazy. |
Didn't Buhari say that he was looking to ensure that Nigeria would be self-sufficient in military hardware - not looking to spend FOREX on imported goods from people who could turn off the trade tap at any time for any reason? What happened to that promise? |
akpamfet:Nigerians do disobey traffic laws, they seem to love to ignore road lanes. If something is wrong then it should acknowledged that the practice is wrong so that it can be corrected. |
A lot of Nigerians wear very unpractical clothing, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with being abroad. It'll be 30 celcius and you'll see someone in a three-piece suit. And I don't think some of the other things that go on in Nigeria should be accepted. People cry about 'corruption' as the cause of Nigeria's problems or 'bad leadership' when the real issue is how most people in Nigeria think, or rather do not think. There is an attraction to being proudly irrational in Nigeria that is perplexing at times. Nigeria has everything needed to make a wonderful nation, it's only the mindset of a segment of the population who are in the way. |
babadee1:Speaking of the US, Texas seceded from Mexico is significantly better off now than it was previously. Finland seceded from Russia in 1917 and the other states within the Soviet Union seceded from Russia after 1990 - most of them are better off. Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom and now fares better than the UK, especially Scotland (that has oil) and Wales. And Croatia and Slovenia seceded from Yugoslavia. They were the wealthiest parts of that union and are noticeably more developed than Bosnia, Serbia and Moldova. Federations work if the requisite regions support themselves, when one party is taking advantage of the hard work and natural resources of another then that is an unequal, exploitative relationship - that is the case with Nigeria. It is to be expected that the more industrious region will look to secede, no one wants to be handicapped. Even more so when there are minimal cultural ties. |
caesaraba:Oil is not a 'curse'. It is certain people who are a curse. Look at Nigeria's history, remind yourself who has stagnated development in Nigeria and which region still has terrible indices and that will explain it all. |
babadee1:Human beings will always have differences and until they confront them they will linger. As painful as war is it allows people an opportunity to establish an order and release their anger - it sounds unpleasant but that is the unfortunate truth. Just as it isn't good for individuals to stay pent up, the same is true for individuals. People have the right to self-determination, as per the UN. Borders are typically made by men and should be redrawn by men if need be. You say that South Sudan was better under the old system but in the long run, they will be better. Nothing worthwhile happens overnight and this current generation may not get to benefit but the children and grandchildren will be better off once a system has been put in place. By your logic Singapore should have remained anchored to Malaysia because secession is not the answer (actually they were booted out of the union). Likewise the United States should have remained a British colony because nations should not look to break away. History shows that your assertion is wrong. Nations need a commonality to work - the experiment that is the European Union, a system designed to stop the Europeans from slaughtering each other is floundering as a result of their numerous differences. As for Nigeria, the southern states are already better off in every indices and would excel if left alone by the north that favors a destructive unitary system of government. How much better would they be if the north went its own way? Who would suffer? Certainly not the south. |
babadee1:South Sudan is a new nation, a region that was neglected for many years, whose resources were used to build the north. But in the long run they will be better off. |
toneawe:The primary money earners before oil were palm oil - from the ND and the east and Cocoa from the West. Groundnut was never a prime cash crop, that is why the south was joined with the north - because on its own the north is not economically viable. |
caesaraba:Sudan is not 'thriving' - far from it. They're now crying to the Americans to life the sanctions that were imposed as a result of their compliance in harboring Islamic terrorists and their abuse of citizens in Darfur. They were fine when the South Sudanese were financing their adventures but have been in decline ever since the South Sudanese fought and won their independence. |
1. Bollywood movies are terrible, why would anyone watch them? 2. It's India - the country with the highest malnutrition rate on the planet. Why would anyone think that such a place is paradise? 3. Do people not do any research before electing to move to a country? Indian minorities are not safe - Muslims, women, Sikhs are all in danger in India. There are countless tales of tourists being attacked. |
hotwax:Britain and China do have oil. China no longer has enough for its needs and Britain's output is on the downswing but their oil allowed them to build other industries. |
myproperty:The best governors in the nation have consistently come from the south - CRS and AKS in particular. And if they don't care about oil then why is this man not agitating for fiscal federalism? The Federal government is more wasteful than any entity in Nigeria and needs to be trimmed down. Let the states and local governments take responsibility. |
babydioku:Cowardice reigns surpreme in the middle belt and the north. Rather than face their oppressors they want to talk about people who are fighting their own battle. |
